Very prompt! Staff was pleasant and welcoming and very helpful. All of my children were seen here and had excellent dental hygiene and now my grandson is on the path to dental wellness with positive interaction and the exceptional knowledge and care provided by Smile Starters staff!!!! Good morning,I hope this email finds you well. I’m writing you in regards to a concerning matter that accrued this pass Thursday October 21st approximately 2:44pm.I Shadrices Campbell mother of patients Iasia Smith (12) and Zoey Smith (5). We was called back to be checked in at 2:44pm. When we got back to the triage arrive we was asked back an assistant what was my concerns for the girls and I stated “ braces for my older girl and routine cleaning for my younger girl but if I think of any other concerns I’ll ask the doctor while in the back”. The assistant stated Zoey is 5 now so she now go to the back alone per their policy and I informed her I understood the policy but also expressed that I was uncomfortable with her going back alone even though she just turned five. She was nice and seemed understandable about my concern so I asked if the assistant could come ask the doctor would they mind if I was to come back with my child cause I also know sometimes it’s at the doctors discretion and she stated yes while leaving to ask the doctor.Still waiting in the triage room Dr. Fraites enters the room walking pass my two girls & I. I could feel the doctor was a little upset or irritated it was kind of like aggressive but when he got in the room he first stated “he did not mind if I was to come back with my child but he was going to explain the policy“ we (my two girl, the assistant, and myself) all stood and listened with no interruption Dr.Fraites continued with policy stating “ when a child is 5 and mature enough to sit through a cleaning than their allow to go back alone “. I at that time informed the doctor I understood the policy and proceeded to Thank him for allowing me to come back because of my concerns with my child and I was rudely cut off by Dr. Fraites stating aggressively “ Hold Up but there is a policy “. I told Dr. Fraites Okay understanding again he continues and states “ you need to calm down and mimic how I was standing which was with my arms crossed “ which was how I was standing before he walked in the room. So I started to let the doctor know I am calm I was already and again before I could finish talking Dr Fraites cuts me off rudely stating “ well you can find another dentist where you can do what you want “. I again said Okay but at this time feeling very attacked, and embarrassed for just being a concern parent which he seemed to have understood when walking into the room first stating “ he would not mind “ now very confused.After leaving out the office my oldest daughter stated “ mom I’m glad we left cause I didn’t want to be seen by him because he was rude “! I am really embarrassed and felt attacked in front of my two girls.I will say the assistant was professional and so was the ladies at the front desk that assistant with information as well. Also, I will say Mr. Mowat the office manager has been helpful concerning the matter. I have request for the owner Dr. Rafael Rivera to contact me and is currently still waiting to be contacted. I did speak with Nelly Rivera Friday morning in regards to the incident and the concerns did not really concern her to me.

My daughters dentist said my daughter was too nervous for extractions and wanted to charge me an extra $650. I called Smile Starters and explained what was going on. They got her records and about a week and a half later BAM… teeth removed with NO issues! The dentist and his staff were SUPER nice and explained everything. We have found a new dental home!

I don’t think any kid enjoys going to the dentist, but the staff at Smile Starters were so friendly and helpful, especially when it was my son’s first visit. They make it easy to book an appointment online and if you have to call and leave a message, they call you back promptly. I feel at ease knowing my children were taken care of and I highly recommend Smile Starters.

Sanitation system they have in place awesome, my daughter has some work to be done but I’m hopeful this will be a seemingly-process, I’m happy to have found this dental office staff was friendly once warming up, we had an early appointment maybe the concierge wasn’t a morning person. Overall great office very diverse and great with children.

I have been taking my girls to Smile Starters since they were a year old and now they are 17, 9, and 6. They love going there! They walk out with a beautiful smile everytime! The staff is so friendly and patient. During this pandemic, they have been very cautious in handling appointments. I never doubt that my girls will get great service during every visit. My son is special needs autistic so docs and dentist can be difficult. But this place is awesome!!! He has had a great experience here. He even went to the exam without me which is HUGE step (Covid precautions) I give this location 5 stars and would recommend them over any other place. Thanks again!

Smile starters is a 5 ⭐️. The staff are professional and respectful . They sent reminders for patients in advance and on the day of appointment. They give a special treatment to the patients. They give patients an autonomy to self scheduling.

Awesome service! My daughter was able to get a sand day appointment for a toothache that is unlikely for most practices. The staff & Dentists are always amazing.

Wonderful staff and great customer service and a very clean atmosphere.

The waiting is atrocious. My son had an appointment at 10 and wasn’t seen until 11. I had the confirmation of the appointment time on my phone but either there was a glitch or the staff was confused because they said he was scheduled at 9:30. Because they considered us late to our appointment even though we were there before 10 they pushed his appointment back until the last possible time.

My child has been going to Smile Starters they’ve always treated us kind. The wait is a lil long at times but other than that..... it’s fine. Thank you Smile Starters. God Bless

Honestly I would have given 5 stars but they have tried to give my 6 year old laughing gas twice which I declined both times and she did fine. My thing is its presented as if it has to be used instead of option. to me its so they can bill more but no most children do fine without unless they are anxious I dont understand

Beware! They do not allow parents back with their children. I would never let my kids back with some random person in a locked room (no parents allowed). Dentist can be predators too. This is the only children’s dentist that does this and it’s creepy.

It was my sons first visit. Was only getting a cleaning, but they found other issues and took care of them in a timely manner. I have found my permanent dentist for my son.

Never had any issues with them over the many years my child has been receiving oral care there.

My daughter is being seen as I wait outside because of corona. They are the kindness and most caring group of Dentist that have treated my family. Thank you Ms. Ruby for answering my questions and for helping expeditiously to resolve my daughters dental issues. Shes a great communicator and I appreciate this staff!!

I’ve been coming here since I first got teeth and the whole time they’ve been awesome. Parents aren’t allowed to go back with kids but to me it was okay and a good separation it gives kids a chance to learn their own history and explain how they’re teeth are feeling to them. The doctors are awesome and aren’t super condescending about how often you brush your teeth. They give you tips and tell you if you’re only gonna brush once a day then try and do it at night so the acids don’t break your teeth down. They really try their best to make kids comfortable and as a child I was super scared of the X-ray machine and they took pictures of my teeth instead. They ask you all the necessary questions and about all health conditions prior to doing your teeth and review them at each appointment to make sure they’re updated. They send the kids home with a new toothbrush, dental floss, and toothpaste. Younger kids also get to pick a prize and a sticker for getting their teeth done. They of course run through everything with parents and keep them informed on what’s going on and also don’t allow parents to leave the premises while their kids are in the back. Pre-COVID they had a console system with two controllers and a lot of floor games to keep kids occupied during the wait. There were plenty of chairs but it wasn’t super crowded either. Now you have to wait in your car but I’m sure once COVIDs over they’ll bring it all back. A really great dental place overall and the receptionist are also super nice I’ve personally never had a negative experience with them that they were at fault for and even had my, as well as my brothers, wisdom teeth removed here. They were super great and checked up on us both after surgery I personally woke up during surgery but they felt super bad and it was definitely an odd one out experience likely due to the fact I have a super high anesthesia tolerance and have several health issues. I’m always super hard to put to sleep and I’ve had issues in hospital settings as well but didn’t think it’d be a problem. That was definitely a personal fault and not theirs I 100% am certain that they’ll always take care of your kids because I am one of the kids that grew up going here. It was always great and killed my fear of the dentist and made me wanna take better care of my teeth. I look forward to my appointments and am always satisfied with the results definitely a great place for kids to start and grow at.

If you love your children please do not send them here!!! Worst experience ever! The staff do not know what they are doing. It could be a result of the recent pandemic but please understand, there is a reason why they have a 2.5 star review on yelp. They do not pay attention to the needs of the patients and not only do the doctors not advise the parents of what treatments the children need they are not even aware of what treatments they have scheduled themselves!!! Terrible place. We have already decided to leave this dental office for a more competent establishment. I asked my mother to take my child to the office once and she reported back to me that the staff were discriminating against her because of the color of her skin and her inability to speak Spanish. (Since I wasn’t there for that I won’t comment further but the fact that they scheduled treatment and didn’t even do anything but an exam is enough to advise that this is not a good place to take your kids for dental care)

The work is great everything else is horrible. They are always 30min to an hour behind. & The lobby is disgusting and the bathroom looks like a middle school boys locker room.

During the pandemic, the wait time was a little ridiculous. My appointment for my child was at 10:00 am and it is 85 degrees outside. We sat in the car until 10:30 am and I couldn’t go in with him. So I sat in my car from 9:50am until 11:20 am. I understand this pandemic calls for caution but it is too hot to be in the car waiting.

Reason for 4 star is because yesterday was my 1yr first time with 2 of his other siblings. They did him in room by himself instead of where he could of seen them go first. Than waiting 30mins to be call in the back and appt was for 830 and they opened at 8 we were checked in by 820. Other than that ive been bringing my 3 oldest since we moved here from New Orleans over 6 yrs and dont have a problem with them.

The dentist we saw was great at communication and care.But the office entered our info incorrectly multiple times, lost a payment, incorrectly coded exams and were generally disorganized. The majority of the times I was waiting was for them to correct information (10 minutes just to correct a phone number, 30 minutes to correct coding).

Been coming here for years awesome with children. The entire staff is very friendly and amazing!! Shout out to Peggy for the southern hospitality!!

Please don’t waste your time and take your business elsewhere. This place is a mess. Called and made an appointment, called the next day to confirm, when I showed up they said there was a misunderstanding and that they would call me. I dragged my daughter and my newborn there 25 min away, only to get sent home, after I literally called to confirm my appointment the day before!!! Very unprofessional. Do not recommend.

The dental hygienist and dentist were great, but the whole place - waiting area, hallways, exam rooms - are visibly dirty. Good service, but you feel like you need a shower after you leave. Will not return.

Lady with glasses and short hair at the check in desk had a rude tone with me. I wasn’t aware of their policy about taking my little cousin w/o a parents note & it seemed like asking her questions about it was irritating her. She acted like I was supposed to know (I have never been there before) , so I’m not sure why she was giving me that tone . No soap in the women’s bathroom, which I informed the front desk about especially bc of the virus going around. She immediately provided soap. Waiting area was clean and the latina hygienist that helped me my little cousin was very friendly.

They are awesome with small children. They made my 3 year old son so comfortable that he forgot that he was at the dentist. He was all smiles! They are extremely busy most of the times. My only criticism is that some people let there kids do anything they want (standing/jumping on the furniture) in the lobby instead of making then behave. It becomes a distraction to others waiting.

I love it there, they take really good care of me and they try to make me comfortable and i really enjoy it. i would really like to thank Jocelyn and Dr.Fraites they have been my life savers i really appreciate what the have done for me. They are truly amazing and i am grateful for them as well.

I am so happy that I was able to find another Dentist that takes my daughters insurance. This place is dirty, the staff is rude and you will wait for at least an hour past your appointment time. Whenever you call, no one answers the phone you always get a voicemail telling your to leave a message! We wont be back!

I have been was waiting for than 3 hours and no one came to attend my children who had an appointment today @9. They are telling me that they werent registered. This was not a good experience. They should be attended to what they are doing Bc I told them 3 kids but they only attended one.

The way she handled and spoke to our child knowing she was very scared because of the experience she had at our last dentist office, she was vary patience and caring. After she made sure mom knew everything that was going to happen and fully answered all her questions. Mom was empress and our child has a whole new out look on the dental experience. My kids LOVE this place. Fast, friendly staff and painless.

Ive always hated this place since little, then I go back and they tell me a bunch of things wrong with my tooth, I go to another dentist turns out it was mostly not true through an X-ray smile starters didnt do a filling correctly now I have to be really careful and wait a year to get it fixed and covered by insurance. I dont wanna go back and complain because if they mess it up again theyll only be removing more tooth to fix it

We called the emergency doctor on call several times but nobody replied to our phone calls. We clearly indicated that our child has been in serious pain. We had to take her to the emergency room at Duke Hospital. This is totally unacceptable. I cannot wait to talk to my lawyer regarding this kind of negligence by a medical facility.

We did not have very pleasant experience. The doctor and other associates (except of the technician who did cleaning) were very nice, tryed to make my daughter feeling not scared and good, but...The place doesnt seems clean as I would expect from dental office. All of the outside windows were dirty, inside of the waiting area was OK, but all of the toys for the patients to play with when they waiting were very dirty! We still wanted to give the Smile Starters a chance, so we decided not to leave directly and see how the back rooms will look. But the wait was terrible also, our appointment was at 10am, we were told to come 15 min before to fill paperwork, which we did. After waiting and waiting (we were already decided to leave if they will not call us in max at 11) we were finally called in at 10:55 (55min after our scheduled appointment!). After we come to the exam room and seen it my husband wanted to leave. I did feel bad to leave and thought a lot of strikes on walls doesnt mean dirty...But more I looked more I saw and I did not like it. The floors were dirty in corners, the patients chair was dirty on handles and in cravises, the counter did not look good either, they had cracked broken clocks on wall. The technician who did clean my daughters teeth seems to get irritated by my daughter craying and turning her head away (it was her first appointment, she is 2 years old so does not understand well to stay still or that nobody is trying to hurt her). She was also pretty ruff. In that moment I already regret that we did not leave and hoped she will forget her experience. After the technician left, we wanted to leave, but the doctor come before we could do so. He seems nice so we stayed. He handle my daughter very well and tryed to distract her. If he would work at another place, I would continue visiting him, but in this place we will not do so. First and last time for us there

I started going to them after my 9yr old had a bad experince at another dentist office when he was two, He was terrified of the dentist & we started going here and hes loves it. Dr. Teagan work hard with him to get him not scare anymore, now hes 9 and my 4 yr old daughter daughter been going here since she was 6months olds. No complain no screaming and crying about going the question is,is Dr. Teagan seeing me today? i love this place been going here 7 yrs and i have recommend it to most of my friends and they love it too! thanks Smile starter for keeping for everything you do with my children!

I dont know about this place our fist visit was today and the experience was terrible 2 parents got into a heated argument and were using very harsh profanity in front of my kids and other peoples kids. The video is on YouTube. Titled bad parenting the F bomb was dropped repeatedly my children might not ever want to visit another dentist. Very upset.

Ive been coming here for over half of my life now (Recently turned 18), and although I detest coming because of my phobia of dentists, I always leave with shiny teeth and a smile on my face. I recommend this place HIGHLY to everyone, especially Latin parents, as much of the staff is bilingual and helpful in translating any concerns.//The receptionist is one of the most charming people and makes you feel at home. The staff always have a smile on their faces (same as the name hehe) and are very attentive in their treatment! Ive been coming here for more than half my life now (I recently turned 18), and although I hate coming here because of my dental phobia, I always leave with shiny teeth and a smile on my face. I HIGHLY recommend this place to everyone, especially Latino parents, as much of the staff is bilingual and helpful in translating any concerns.
