Great experience. After relocating from California I was hesitant to let anyone cut my hair. I was in great hands!! Misaki took great care of me & did an excellent job. Beyond my expectations. The young lady who washed my hair & gave me a massage was excellent as well. Everyone was nice & welcoming. Can’t wait to go back for my color & trim.

I thoroughly enjoyed the service I received at Kiwa! I booked my appointment via email (instructions listed on their website). The facility is clean with everyone adherent to mask rules. Hiro was the one who took care of me from start to finish, which included a wonderful shampoo (I forgot how nice this is having not had a salon haircut since pre-pandemic), some light head and neck massaging, and a thorough but efficient and very clean haircut. I will definitely be visiting again!FYI: they are located on the second floor so you’ll have to go around the corner passed the restaurant to find the entryway.

I’ve been there many times and it was ok but this time the worst hair cut ever! I normally don’t complain in anything even I don’t like but this time was terrible.The guy who cut my hair didn’t know how to cut, I’m not hair stylist but I could really see it!

Ive been coming to this salon for at least the last 3 years, first at their FIT location and now to this one. I nearly always have a different stylist (my choice!) and have always had a great visit! I find their prices very affordable for such a high quality outcome. Thank you to the team who work here for making every visit so great!

Love this salon. Have been going for about a year now & even got my husband to start going to them. Difficult to find someone in my area who has experience with Asian hair, so kiwa was recommended by a friend.The salon is clean, good space between salon chairs, everyone wears masks. They give you a really nice head and shoulder massage during shampoo. I’ve always been pleased with my cuts. I’ve gotten cuts from Oki and Misagi, and I love them both.

I was assigned a senior hair stylist named Oki who charged $95 for my shoulder length haircut, which was fine if the results were at least decent. See attached photo (click See Photos) for evidence--notice the abruptness of the cut at the bottom. The other side was not much better, either.This was after I had pointed it out to him and he could not see my point so I had to capture it on my phone and drew a line along the bottom to show how it was pin straight along the back but it sloped downwards all of a sudden, creating a really weird angle I did not request. Mr. Oki was also annoyed that I pointed out the inadequacy. His body language (making a face while turning away) and verbal language (Oh, so you did not want it straight then? .. So, you did not want an angle then? ... So, you actually want more layers?) showed it.Oh, he also ever-so-lightly touched my right breast three times as he cut the front parts. Three times, it happened. Intentional? Customers, you be the judge.Two words: Take Heed.Unless, you want to have to correct the haircut, not once, but twice, and you want your breast touched during a (bad) haircut.*One star, because the lady who shampooed and assisted with coloring was friendly and helpful.

Ive tried to make an appointment 3 different times, but I couldnt continue all 3 of trials because of the receptionist, better to talk with a wall. She asks endless questions and images of my hair before talking about an appointment. I assumed that she worries about potential damage from hair products. I told that I wouldnt mind if there is any hair damage from the product. She just continues with unnecessary questions and images of my hair. I do hair pretty often here and there to change style. Not all time satisfied, but hair grows quickly. I tried 3 times because this place is just few blocks away from my home, and now I am done with this place even before having any service because of the receptionist who is impossible to get through. I am running a business as well and this extreme cautious behavior does more harm than good to your own business.

Ive been going to Kiwa Salon for years and Jenna is my everything!! I tell everyone I know to go to her, shes the best. She kills it with color - we always have fun playing around with something new. She totally listens to what I want and it always looks amazing. I always leave so happy, and it doesnt hurt that shes just fun to hang with for however long Im in the chair :)

I went here to get the Japanese hair straightening and they did an amazing job! i was very comfortable with this salon. They served me snacks, green tea and they even had amazing music there i highly recommend coming here they were VERY nice and experienced. After I Got My hair done here it looked amazing, smelled amazing, felt amazing i was highly satisfied. They even gave me instructions on how to care for my hair when i left. very clean and amazing salon!!! ♥️

Overall this is a good hair salon. They also have one in Tokyo which is worth going to if you are in the area and need a cut. Anyway, the staff here are friendly but some of them speak limited English. The person at reception can speak English which is helpful. I made a reservation on a weekday and it was not very crowded. There seems to be many different stylists.

Kiwa Salon is based on Jenna and Junko. These two guys are very talented in hair cut. They can give cut to your hairs in all those design in which you are like. The behavior of these guys is really kind and cooperative. The rates of cut are high but once you take the hair cut from this hair salon then you will afford the rates of this salon because of the excellent cut.

Got my hair colored here by Joe and I can’t express how happy I am with the results!! He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and friendly, making the entire 4 hour process enjoyable! The only caveat is that their service is on the pricier side but, I’m not complaining~ it was completely worth it. I’ll definitely be back here again!

Ive been coming here since 2011, have always left happy, and wouldnt dream of going elsewhere in the city. Great Japanese salon giving great haircuts for very reasonable prices, especially considering their location in Chelsea and what other salons charge for less attentive service. Love the vigorous head massage included with the shampooing step.

Look no further whether youre a man or woman when it comes to cutting or styling your hair than Kiwa. Theyre absolutely professional, punctual, and polite. I had long hair that was difficult to maintain and needed a cut and a dye job, they took care of it no problem. Awesome hair salon for both myself and my son. We have very thick, wiry, straight Asian black hair and its hard to cut. In addition, our head shapes are not perfectly round, but more flat and cube-like. They know exactly what to do to make it light, round and well-styled, with low maintenance. Highly recommended for anyone who had issues getting their super straight hair cut nicely.

Hana did an AMAZING job with my hair. This was my first haircut in New York (being a Boston native), but I couldnt be happier to have chosen to go to Kiwa. I am so happy with the cut and style. More than that, everyone was incredibly friendly. I would recommend Kiwa to anyone!!

I was in NYC for a conference and had some time to kill. I made an appointment and was lucky to be placed with Oki, who was very attentive, and spent a lot of time making sure my layers were looking good. Its been about a week since the cut and I am still happy how it looks when I style it at home!

This salon is so nice and everyone there is super friendly. I got a head, neck, and back massage before my hair cut! Every hair cut comes with shampoo and blow dry too. Hiro got the style I wanted exactly, and my hair was really soft afterwards. I definitely recommend him. They’re moving to the East side which means I’m definitely coming back to get my bangs trimmed.

My hair stylist is Misaki, who has been doing my hair for years now. She s friendly, cool and whatever you r thinking of to get she delivers every time. She also lets you know what looks good or what doesnt. Keep it real. The price could be just a lil bit pricey but its worth every penny.

Both locations have excellent, full service for an affordable price. Nice, long shampoo followed by a scalp and shoulder massage. I prefer this 23rd street location because Misaki is the best stylist Ive ever had. Shes highly detailed and knows how to deal with my really thick Japanese hair. I can just give her general guidelines and she is able to translate them into a beautiful, easy to maintain cut. She cut my hair in March and it maintained its shape and clean lines all the way until November. This time I asked for an angled bob and absolutely love it.

One of the best haircuts Ive ever gotten. Would go back for the scalp massage alone, but the skills are there too. In NYC you can certainly pay more and not get as good a cut, so its worth the expense!

I was iffy about coming here, but Im very glad I did. All of the employees were kind, polite, and neat. Hiro knew exactly what I wanted and showed off his skills. The only problem for non-Japanese speakers might be some of the employees accents, but its worth the price.

Great experience here with the wonderful staff who were kind and efficient.You can select a regular stylist or a senior stylist (slight price difference) for hair cuts for both men and women styles. They offer other services too like digital perms and color. Liked their availability of Japanese magazines (JJ, InRed, etc) as well as American magazines for reading while youre there too!Credit card and cash are both accepted here.The salon is right above the mattress store, theres a small doorway on the NE corner of 23rd/3rd on 23rd St, so its easy to miss. Take the stairs up to the 2nd floor.

Ive been a loyal KIWA customer for a few years now. They are particularly good with long hair and layering.They are extremely friendly whenever I go in. You start off having a consultation with the stylists (Its best to bring a photo of what you want if you can). You then move on to a relaxing wash that feels like a massage and lasts longer then any other wash Ive received at a hair salon. Then you go and sit in a chair and they ask if you want a massage while your hair dries a bit in the towel! I often want a more styled edgy look and they please me 100% of the time.The price is right. Ive been to many places in NY that do a great job also but the prices are ridiculous. On a scale of boring to edgy, zero being boring and 10 being edgy, I would give KIWA an honest 8.0. If you are looking for something EXTREME (this is coming from a 20 something girl whose head is partly shaved on one side, perhaps you ought to go somewhere else).Their super friendly staff, lovely wash, lovely massage before my cut, and great price, and end product always keeps me coming back! I have recommended them to all my friends and we are all KIWA converts.
