Probably the worst ER experience I ever had. So rude, unprofessional, and they didnt even help us after sitting there for six hours!!! This place is an absolute nightmare and a disaster, disgrace to all medical professionals out there. I never encountered such rude personnel that only want to defend themselves instead of listening to patients. Their “patients rights” that they demonstrate on a wall is just a sign of a hypocrisy. I have been in the emergency department since about 8 a.m. I found out pretty quickly I am being admitted. So around 12:30 I ask for a food tray. Around 3:30 I step out to the nurses station and expl6i have been waiting a really long time for a food tray. She looks at me with complete disdain and says with attitude the secretary just asked if I can eat shes coming. It is now 7:43pm, I have been asking for a food tray since around 5:30 (as the tray I received earlier was inedible) I finally get my tray and its ice cold! Not to mention it takes about 20-25 minutes to get help to go to the bathroom.I hate it here. Thus place gets worse and worse.STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY!!!

If I could leave zero stars I would. This hospital does not deserve not even one star. On June 17, 2021 I drove my son who is 12 years old to the nearest hospital which was a Atrium Health University. I drove there because my son had surgery the night before. He was in so much pain, the prescription medication was not helping with the pain at all. When I got there it was 2:40 Am in the morning my son was never seen by a nurse or by a doctor. Finally at 6am when I couldn’t handle seeing my son in tears anymore I walked up to the nurses station and everyone there was sitting laughing and joking around talking about a trip that they have planned for. I calmly walked up to one of the nurses and asked is it possible that they could give my son some type of pain medication to help him at least sleep. I even told her that I’m OK with the doctor not seeing him yet if they are busy but could they please help with giving my son something to help him alleviate the pain and pressure he was suffering from. The nurse then told me that she could not do anything or see him or give him anything without the doctor physically seeing him and she also stated that it’s shift change so I’m just going to have to wait. By this time it was 6:15 in the morning remember I was there at 2:40Am.This was the worst experience ever I finally decided to just walk out the hospital at 6:40am when I realized that I wouldn’t get any help for my son. So I took my son who was on crutches and I drove 26 minutes to Levine children hospital which was the best decision I’ve ever made. That’s where I should’ve went in the first place. They saw my son they quickly took him in because they was aware that he had just had surgery the night before and they saw that he was in terrible pain and they gave him something to help with the pain. Atrium Health on university or WT Harris whatever it’s called is The worst place anyone could be. None of the staff cares, there are cockroaches everywhere the rooms are disgusting very dirty and it’s just so sad for such a big hospital to have such low care for patients. If I could sue the hospital I would for pain and suffering. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSPITAL IF YOU ARE SICK AND WANT TO LIVE cause they don’t care at all!

I came in to the ER with abdominal pain at a level of 8. After triage and being taken back into a room with a wait of 2 hours. Which is normal. However, when I was placed in a room not a single nurse came in the room. For an hour and a half I sat in a room listening to the nursing staff right across from My room with my door wide open, talk about their personal life and how they were talking openly about other patients calling them crazy is super unprofessional. Not one person came in to check on My pain level. And the nursing staff was lazy, slack, unprofessional and discouraging. Healthcare is a field of service of giving to patients. Caring. And its sad to see really horrible nurses ruin such a large name like Atrium. Never recommend this hospital again.

Worst experience and hospital ever, the ER is useless and is quick to get you admitted but provide no care or triage assistance to help your situation, they do not respect HIPPA laws which means all your information will be everywhere while you’re seen, they left me bleeding and standing in the ER for 3-4 hours and 5 pleading before even looking me in the face, they deleted medications I was currently taking and kept me there for 2 days with no care whatsoever, to eventually send me home with a $29000 bill for 2 IVs cat scan and 2 pain pills. Waste of my life force time and expectations of getting care.

I arrived to the ER with my elderly father at 830a and as Im writing it is almost 3pm and we are still waiting...His chief complaint was ACTIVE genitourinary bleeding and shortness of breath.I called ER and talked to a nurse(?) to inquire about the status of my father and when he would finally be taken back after an almost 6 hours (and counting) wait... she informed me that he had vitals signs taken (4 hours ago) and was sent back in the waiting room. He is short of breath and yet has failed to be seen. There have been countless people with Musculoskeletal Complaints who have come and left..she informed me because they are able to leave they because they can walk out. How would she know my fathers condition if he hasnt been triaged? I asked her when would he be seen, when he passes out in the waiting room? The nurse whom I did not get her name over the telephone, proceeds to tell me ,since you wont let me talk... then she hung up the line. This is rude and unacceptable and I will take this complaint as far up as needed for resolution. As a medical professional myself, I am appalled and disgusted with this hospital and the staff and plan to file a formal complaint. I know how the process goes and this is NOT IT! The services rendered at this hospital does not align with The Joint Commissions mission and standards. This hospital needs a visit.- Dr. C Stevenson

I struggle with the star rating b/c the nurses has been wonderful (so far)....im speaking from a labor and delivery perspective BUT they are lacking with the staff on the main level. Here is my recent complaint I submitted that may get overlooked:Your staff really needs to be much more cognitive of how you treat your patients. I just attempted to have a delivery service drop off toiletries as I’m pregnant with NO outside help and needed important essentials during my unexpected stay. Your rude staff at the security desk told her she was not allowed to drop anything off and needed to wait outside which is a luxury she does NOT have since she had other deliveries! My nurse was nice enough to go quickly pick up my order THANK GOD b/c she was ready to leave! If this is your policy, fine, but just last night after waiting 3-4 hours for dinner that my nurse put in and was told was on its way, but NEVER arrived, I had no choice but to order takeout. The delivery driver WAS allowed to leave it with security until my nurse was able to assist. In addition, which wasn’t a major problem at first but while Im having to waste time sending this complaint, you should also direct your “patient registration” to be more kind. When I arrived/ per my doctors orders to be checked into labor and delivery since my blood pressure was extremely high, TWO of your staff sat there carrying on a convo and even proceeded to get up and walk away to speak to a colleague sitting in her office and when she returned still took a min to acknowledge me. It’s a blessing I wasn’t in active labor. The nurses have been phenomenal but the staff at the front needs serious training especially b/c they are clueless to the amount of stress, issues or unique situations your patients are coming here with.

I went in unable to talk with slurred speech and numbness in my right arm and face around 2am and left at 6 after never being treated. I cant comment on the rest of the hospital, except to say that everyone I encountered was very pleasant. However, I can definitely comment on the maternity ward because all of my children were born at this hospital, and I cant say enough positive things about all of those experiences! Each room is the size of a small apartment, including a private bathroom (with shower), mini-fridge, dresser drawers, television (includes movies and cable), and seating for about 5 visitors. Access to the maternity floor is well secured through their use of a private elevator (not to mention tracking devices on infants). The amenities are definitely quite nice, but the best part by far is the people! Whether its doctors, nurses, lactation consultants, janitors, or whomever - all of the people we met were just wonderful, informative, and patient (the last quality was super important since theyre dealing with a bunch of sleep deprived parents). Couldnt recommend them more highly if youre looking for a place to have your kids!

If it was not for the Nurse that we had I would have lost my mind. It’s disheartening to know that infants are treated just as bad as the other adults leaving reviews about this place. We waited hours for a doctor to not even lay a hand on her and to tell us “oh she looks fine”. To be clear I will NEVER place my kids life or any of my loved ones life in the care of the university city location. Our experience was traumatizing from beginning to end. While there we seen the clueless lady from registration who was more worried about how the hospital was going to be paid for this visit, other than the well being of my NEWBORN. I am beyond hurt with this experience as all we wanted to do as parents was make sure our child is ok. I have had THE WORST EXPERIENCE at this hospital this morning. Against my better judgement, I managed to drive myself to the Emergency ward of this facility - only to be ignored by medical professionals. When I arrived at/around 4:10am, I was asked if I was there to speak with someone or to check myself in; I chose the former. I had been diagnosed on Saturday morning with Shingles at the Fast Ugent Care in Concord and was experiencing intense pain in behind my right eye. When I entered, there were only two (2) people (who appeared to be family members) seated in the Waiting Room conversing with an on-duty nurse. They left within 15 minutes of my arrival and I found myself to be the only person left in the entire room.About 15 minutes later, the pain in my right eye became more intense and I asked the Security Personnel to let someone know that I felt that I was going to pass out. He informed the Admission staff and they called for someone to come out to the Waiting Room.An intern called me back to a room about 5 minutes later to check my weight and vitals. I told her that I could not understand why my wait was so long. She informed me that signing in as wanting to speak with someone, instead of admitting myself leads to longer wait time. WHO KNEW?? Why wasnt I informed about that when I checked in?Around 4:35am, she instructed me to follow her to a room (#41?) where we walked past two (2) medical personnel whom were standing by the desk having casual conversations. Also, there was no one seen racing to get to rooms or in the hallways of either direction; it was extremely peaceful in the ward.I entered the room, sat down and waited while the pain grew more intense. After about 15 more minutes, I arose and opened the door and saw a medical professional sitting in a chair alongside the wall and reading a computer screen. Again, the hallway was extremely silent. I picked up my bag, jacket and water bottle and proceeded to leave. It was then that I noticed a nurse sitting behind the main desk and told her of my experience, thus far. She apologized afterwhich I informed her that I would seek medical assistance elsewhere and that leaving under my current physical condition (blurred vision, intense pain and swelling in my right head and eye) puts me at risk because I will have to transport myself there. I also informed her that should anything happen to me that I would seek legal counsel against the hospital for negligence. When leaving, I stopped my the Admissions Desk and informed the staff of my decision to leave and why. I was given a document to sign waiving my right to service. I refused to sign the form because my leaving was not because I refused service; the service that I was there to receive was not provided to me.I called back to the hospital about 10 minutes later and asked to speak with an administrator on staff. Marion, a supervisor, responded to my call and I told her about my experience. How could I not be provided sufficient and efficient medical treatment when the EMERGENCY ward of Atrium Health University City Hospital when I was the lone patient sitting in that area? Her response was condesending and insensitive, as she reminded me that I left after 45 minutes and refused medical care.I provided her with the specifics of her staff standing around having casual conversations in the hallway while I sat in intense pain awaiting to be seen, I told her that I had documentation to support my accusations. It was then that I decided (and informed her) that I would return to this hospital for a better outcome but that I would continue with a documentation of this experience. She told me that videos and cameras were not allowed in the hospital - to which I responded that I could not be prevented from writing notes. As I traveled back towards the hospital (about 5:10am), I changed my mind and decided to return home. Why would I allow myself to be mistreated a for second time? I immediately called the After-hours duty nurse for my PCP to seek his/her advice. Sheryl Smith

EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS.Each session was around $4000 for the clinic and $850 physicians fee, for 90 minutes of laying in a pressurized cabin. Its the same as scuba diving into 1.5 atmospheres. I have seen a physician ONCE in 16 sessions, and I had to wait for her to be done with another patient, meaning that while collecting $850, they were most likely seeing other patients, essentially getting double-paid for their time.By my ENT, I was referred for 20 sessions, and due to an insurance mess-up, they stopped taking me in after the 16th. They told me they were appealing to the insurance companys decision. I talked to my insurance company multiple times as well. After my insurance company started to stop making me liable, and not paying Atrium either, I have received a letter from Atrium asking my permission (and signature) to appeal. WHAT??? For weeks, they were saying that they were appealing. And since I have seen some improvements in my hearing, I found a stand-alone clinic where I could continue to receive more treatments. I paid around $400 (total) per session instead of around $5000. A simple price search in Google results in similar prices all over the country.During my talks with their head physician at this location, she told me that my insurance company should not be ripping me off like that... WHAT? You are charging 12 times the average price and the insurance company is ripping ME off?!?As one can imagine, there have been weeks and months of talks, between me and the head doctor, me and insurance company, and insurance company and them... NOT ONCE, the doctor asked me how my hearing was...Finally, the insurance company agreed to the wrongdoing and decided to cover these 16 treatments. Not everything is processed yet, and I told Atrium that I have a few more bills coming and I was gonna start paying them, or start a payment plan when all is finalized, and they said OK, and moved the due dates a few times. The only reason I was doing that was to have a larger bill at the end because they dont give discounts for amounts smaller than $2500. Yes, thankfully, my final bill is going to be a few thousand dollars (which unfortunately would be the same if I went to the stand-alone clinic first and have my 20 treatments there and pay them out of pocket).Anyways, while waiting for the last 2 claims to be officially processed by the insurance... I receive a debt collector bill for $57, for one of the first sessions.I had not responded to their appeal permission letter, and I did deal with my insurance myself to get myself off the hook, which ended up getting Atrium paid a substantial amount of money along the way, and I am getting a debt collection letter for FIFTY-SEVEN dollars?!Did I mention, no one ever asked me how my hearing was?Stay away from Atrium. All my doctors are in Novant Health, and the ONLY reason I went to Atrium was that this needed to be started immediately to have a shot at getting my hearing back, and Novant was booked for weeks.Heres a bonus research note for you all trying to decide between Novant and Atrium. Atrium might end up suing you for an unpaid bill and Novant will never do that (I can provide links to written statements on both of their websites).Updates:The portion I am responsible for is moved to another account (so that I can have a payment plan) and the payments I am making cant be tied to services rendered, thus, I can get reimbursed by my HSA. I keep emailing the billing services and they keep reading the messages (yes, there is a has been read indicator), but they dont respond. Its been well over a month. My primary health care provider started showing prices for procedures/services they do. Just for fun, I browsed some. Heres a fun fact. Brain surgery costs 53K without insurance at Novant. Me sitting in a pressurized box 16 times at Atrium: 80K. Shamelessness on steroids!!!

I stayed in the hospital for 4 days and the night shift is really terrible. The response time to get a nurse to help you in the room was so long. Also one of the nurse techs faked taking my blood pleasure and temperature twice in the same day and I didn’t even see her coming in my room and she had them documented in the computer as she done them already. Also, communication are really poor and not in timely manner. Also, one of my heart monitor leads got loose all night and no one came in my room to check on it. I’m really disappointed.

I brought my husband in last night about 11:00 for a aching hand and arm. He was put in a room right away and assistance came in and evaluated his condition. EKG was done and blood work as my husband is seventy one years of age and diabetic. The room was extremely cold and the nurse who assisted us tried very hard to turn the air off to no avail. I must say she along with the other staff who came in the room were very nice and professional! The Doctor who came in to see us was extremely nice and professional. My only two problems were the bathroom in the hall was flooded with water and I messed up a new pair of dressy pants I was wearing coming there from a church function and my husband and I were extremely cold for over three hours. Even with blankets being brought in the cold air was terrible. I started getting a sore throat and runny nose from just waiting in that room! I must say even with those unfortunate things the Customer Service seem to have improved from our last visit.Sincerely,Juanita Mcmullen

I needed something really simple and unfortunately the way the system is set up, you have to jump through hoops for simple things. I explained this and they understood exactly how I felt, they went above and beyond to get me in and out without all of the extras. I was in and out in 10 minutes and I got exactly what I needed. Genuinely pleased!!!

This hospital has very reasonable waiting times for the Emergency Room. Both of the doctors who treated me were EXCELLENT! They really catered to my comfort and I cant speak highly enough of this experience. I hope not to return to the ER again but if you have to go to an ER room, come here.

Had a full knee replacement after partial failed after installed in March of 2019 in Sarasota, FL. The staff, nurses, everyone thru the whole procedure seemed excellent compared to Venice Regional Hospital, don’t think I could of found a better surgeon, Dr. Bates, or a better Hospital if I tried, 2.5 weeks out and recovering a lot faster than originally! Zero complaints!! 👍 Thank you to the nurses and staff!

Went to this hospital last night. Can’t say it was a great experience cause I was, ya know, in the hospital. BUT Tammy, a late shift nurse, was incredibly friendly and made it a pleasant experience. Also, Sharon in the x-ray lab was really sweet. We bonded over her daughters college experience. All in all, don’t go to the hospital but if you must I recommend.

Brought my mom here for what we thought was a heart attack - all the classic symptoms. We’re still waiting to be taken back 2 hours later. I guess it’s a good thing that it’s probably not a heart attack, otherwise we could’ve just cut out the middleman and gone straight to the morgue. Took 15 minutes for them to get an EKG, then another 15 to find a doctor to actually read the EKG. All the nurses were incredibly snotty and acted like we were just drug seekers as my mom is gasping for breath and has tears dripping down her face. Atrium healthcare strikes again. At this point I’d rather someone just let me die at home than be brought here to be belittled and ignored until I either died or spontaneously felt better and left on my own.

ER purgatory and we are still here. Been at the ER since 11:00am this morning. We see a nurse once per hour. I have had to change the bed pan twice.. the second one has been sitting at the sink full since 3pm. The IV ran dry 4 hrs ago. There is still uncleaned vomit on the floors to go along with the cracker crumbs left by the last people in here. vomit The doctors seem to be guessing; running MRI’s and EKG’s for billing purposes but providing no attention or answers. One of the worst service experiences I’ve had and it isn’t even over yet. Lastly, don’t dare ask a nurse around this place for anything less you want dirty looks.

Had my baby there in April. I’ve always hated hospitals, and I thought this hospital was going to affirm my reasons when I first came in when I was in labor. The triage doctor that checked me (it was a male doctor), had a terrible bedside manner and treated me very roughly. However, the labor and delivery nurses and doctors here were AMAZING! There was not one that didn’t make me feel cared for. They made sure everything was explained to me, constantly updated me on my baby’s wellbeing, and took the time to care for my comfort, which is very important in such a vulnerable time. I will definitely choose to have future babies here if the time comes!

On Monday December 30th I took my father to the emergency room as he was having trouble breathing. We parked the car, every few steps we took we had to stop. We reached one door, there was a short column near a wall that he sat down on, I wanted to get a wheelchair but did not want to leave him I then began to call for help, there was a security guard also a couple of samaritans a man and his son that came over to help and about that time my father fell over my shoulder collapsing in my arms, the three helped me get him in the chair, the staff had to revive him. I just want to say thank you to that security guard, the fellow and his son who came to help us so quickly, thank you to the staff for everything that you have done, I praise God that my father is still with me in 2020 and improving daily. If anyone knows the name of that security I would like to see speak with him, this episode happened around 12 noon. I also wish to speak with the other 2 people that reached out to us Im so grateful! Once again thank you and God-bless you.

This place is the worst! After waiting 6 hours on a cold gurney, I was ushered into a satellite area off the emergency room. They promised me a room. That was Thursday at 8pm. Its now Friday at 904pm, 24 hours later and they still have me down here in this holding area. I asked for pain medication and for a medication that treated me last time I was here, and they refused saying that I would have to wait for a morning consult with the doctor. Meanwhile, Im waiting uncomfortable and in pain in a holding area where there are curtains between the patients and the nurses. The nurses are young and inexperienced and dont know a damn thing. I wouldnt recommend this hospital to a damn dog!!!

My son has had a very difficult 6.5 hour period in the ED seeking answers for a serious health concern with sudden onset. He could get very few answers on his own and felt disrespected by the short, blond, female ED physician who at one point rolled her eyes at him and his friends when he asked questions. Living 2 hours away, I phoned the hospital and was told they could not give me any information by phone even with his consent. I listened on speaker phone as the Physician was disrespectful to my 21 year old son and after he was told he was free to go, handed a stack of papers to take home to read, he asked what he should do about the IV that was still inserted in his arm? She told him to remove it and so he did. Is this seriously what healthcare in America has come to today? This kid had been through hours of serious pain of unknown origin, many tests, X-rays, and a CT ANGIOGRAPHY to rule out pulmonary embolism so these were not minor issues or insignificant tests. This is not a place I would recommend after the experience my child endured. If the score could be negative 1 or lower, we’d rank that way!

Terrible family surgery waiting room staff support the afternoon of 5/20/19, sister came out of surgery at 1:40pm, talked with the doctor, told to wait till she came out of recovery and I would be notified in the surgery waiting room. 5:15pm still in the surgery waiting room, nothing, surgery waiting room staff left at 4pm no updates before they left, multiple families waiting for updates besides me, we talked about how long we were all waiting on updates. I finally had to call the hospitals main number from their own unstaffed surgery waiting room, was told my sister had been moved to a room early and I could go on up - how long ago was that I have no idea, Id been waiting over 3 hours with no updates or someone to tell me she had been moved to a room... Unbelievable, so disappointed in the hospitals lack of coverage or concern and to keep us sitting in their unstaffed waiting room.
