I cant recommend these folks highly enough. I had my initial consult at the Wake Forest location and the procedure and follow-up at the Raleigh location. The staff at both places is fantastic. Dr. Kretchmer was very thorough and explained everything in terms I could easily understand. Also want to call out Rudy specifically--I have some pretty crippling anxiety when it comes to dental work, and Rudy was a huge help in that regard. He did as much as he possibly could to make sure that I was as comfortable as I could be both at the consult and the procedure, took extra time to go over my post-care instructions with my spouse, called the next day to follow up, and stressed many times that I could call him with any questions I had. Rudys an absolute gem. It might be weird to say that a tooth extraction was a positive experience, but it was as quick and painless as possible. I hope I dont need their services again, but if I do, I know Ill be in good hands.

They comforted me in one of the scariest times in my life, and they did not leave my side until all my questions were answered. This practice was very effective in everything they did. Answering questions assertively and completely, getting X-rays done in time , receiving me courteously and expediently simplifying every paperwork possible. Plus they provided financing.

I was visiting North Carolina from Colorado when I had an emergency. Dr. Stella and Callie took me in and took care of of me. Some of the best services that I have ever received and continue to receive. So good that I continue to fly from Colorado to North Carolina to see them and sing their praises everywhere I go.

Here is a caring, friendly and competent team who once again demonstrated today the excellent service I had come to experience in earlier visits. After a follow up exam of myfairly new implant and crown and a thorough cleaning I came away with ZERO pain and proceeded home with a stop for lunch on the way. Dr.Valentine and assistant Emily did a great job.

My experience with Tar Heel Periodontics and Implant Dentistry was a very positive experience. Dr. Stella listened to my concerns, addressed and explained the treatment and procedure involved. I felt comfortable in his care. Callie was also very knowledgeable and helpful. Her friendly presence made me feel comfortable and well cared for. They have earned my trust, and I will go back if I have more dental problems.

Great experience on first consultation. I visited the Raleigh location as a referral for a periodontal pocket. The receptionist is very helpful and patient, the staff were all awesome. I really liked Rudy, who took some x-rays. He was friendly and made you feel comfortable. Dr. Kretchmer was very friendly and knowledgeable and helped me to understand what was going on, the possible causes of the problem, and offered a solution to the problem. My consult with Ashley went well, she was very friendly and helped me to understand the procedure costs and what exactly I would be paying for. I never felt pressured to have a procedure, just educated in order to make the best decision that worked for me. Because I wanted to take some time to research the procedure, see what my insurance covered, and see if my budget allowed for the procedure, Ashley was great about giving me the details to take home. We agreed to talk the next day to make a final decision as to whether I would schedule the procedure. One thing to note is that, in my case, the money was due upon scheduling the procedure and insurance will reimburse you later. This is an important factor because not everyone has the money to pay upfront. I was able to use my credit card. I mostly appreciate their patience. In all, my experience was great!

They have done a great job for me. Callie took good care of me before and after each visit.

Dr. Stella did an excellent job on removing difficult abutments from implants done by another oral surgeon. I was very tense about coming to this appointment, but he made me feel very comfortable and confident, and was successful in completing this procedure. Both he and his assistant very personable and professional. The staff at the Strickland Road office was also very professional. I highly recommend Dr. Stella and Tar Heel Perio.

I was terrified of having an implant done, until I spoke with Dr Reinaldo Deliz-Guzman. He was very calm, explained everything and suggested I have ‘happy gas’. I’ve just had the procedure and it was so much easier than I thought it would be. I would highly recommend this practice.

With my implants and the bridge and crowns attached I can now laugh out loud without a second thought about the way I look. I can also chew my favorite raw fruits, veggies and nuts on both sides of my mouth for the first time in ages.My case was not simple. I had three missing teeth in a row, a thin jaw bone, and a small mouth space in which to work. Dr. Valentine performed a bone graft to give me enough material to later anchor two implants which would eventually hold two crowns with a bridge. The whole process was a long one, and not cheap, but to me it was worth it. I highly recommend Dr. Valentine if you are thinking about implants (of the dental variety😉).

I’ve been referring to this office for years as a general dentist to Drs. Kretchmer, Stella, Valentine, and Deliz with a great amount of success. I’m writing this review as I’ve had a phenomenal experience as a patient as well with Dr Valentine and team. The laser gum procedure went really well from scheduling to post-operative recovery and Dr Valentine and Callie(surgical assistant) we’re thorough, caring and efficient. I’m grateful for this team in the triangle and appreciate what they do-thank you very much!

Let me tell you a little story about my experience with Tar Heel Perio! Im a dentist myself and was in the market for some gum grafting to address some recession issues I had (Yippee!). Believe it or not, us dentists are humans too and we dont particularly love being on the other side of the dentists chair either... but fortunately for me, Tar Heel made it easy! I even showed up to a different office than the one I had scheduled my appointment with and the support staff made me feel welcome and comfortable while they sorted out my mess! The doctor, Dr. Mike Stella, ultimately drove in early from his lunch break to meet with me; talk about putting the patient first!The assistant, Callie, was incredibly helpful, delightful, and knowledgable, making me feel completely at ease throughout the entire process. Dr. Stella was kind, competent, and personable, immediately extinguishing any concerns I might have had and taking the time to thoroughly answer any and all of my questions. The rest of the staff were charming, prompt, and organized. The procedure went off without a hitch. I would trust any of my patients with the good people at Tar Heel Perio! Highly recommend!

Caring and extremely knowledgeable services. I had an implant procedure which went wonderfully. Dr. Stella is very skilled and obviously cares about his patients. His assistant Callie provided competent care with skill.

The services they offer are great. But their billing practices are atrocious. I was not notified of being an out of network provider. Which instantly cost me an additional $700. While in office they checked my insurance plan and told me to expect approximately 50-80% reimbursement through insurance.Then the going rates for the services were about 40% higher than allowances through insurance. Ended up spending out-of-pocket $1400 out of a $2800 bill. It should’ve been about 700 instead. I’ve called and left multiple messages for callbacks and after three weeks I’ve decided to just leave a poor review.

I am questioning the professionalism of this clinic. I had a 3k deep cleaning which i had to pay 100% upfront , which i found kind of weird. But now i know why ! In the follow up visit all of the sudden they want to sell me an additional 6 k bone treatment. No word 6 weeks ago after examination of all x rays and inspecting my teeth , gum and bones.So the deep clean was the catch...! And the promise that i will see a reimbursed for around 600usd for the deep cleaning was a lie. So far i got 27.50 usd ! What a disgrace...No wonder our healthcare system is in trouble. By the way i have no issues , loose teeth etc. , everything works as supposed to be. Total rip off !

Today was my first visit. I would definitely refer others to you. Who doesnt avoid the dentists office like Covid-19? Fortunately, no worries with this office. I felt immediately at ease when I entered the office. The young lady at the front desk was welcoming with a balanced mix of professionalism and friendliness. The dentist and his assistant were also welcoming. I found Dr. Valentine thorough and easy to understand as he explained the particulars of my case. Thanks for such great care.

I needed to replace a broken crown and went to several specialist for an implant or an alternative. I finally tried Tar Heel Perio and Implant Dentistry and met with Dr Stella. He was very professional and we decded to do a crown lengthening. He performed the work which went smoothly thanks to Callie who assisted with everything. I have an excellent guarantee that I will have a satisfactory outcome when the crown is replaced. Overall things went better than expected and highly reccomend this team to anyone.

This is a very patient-friendly office and the administrative staff is cheery, kind, considerate, and very efficient. Their peers speak well of them, which is a valuable acknowledgement. My own experience has been excellent with any one of the doctors. Dr. Kerchmer has done an awesome job with an implant.

This may be a duplicate review. I was impressed with all of the personnel and the care I received. I would have rated 5 stars , however, I was not pleased and upset with having to pay up front for the work I will have done. It is the first time in all of my life of visiting medical specialists that I have had that experience. It is especially unfair given that my insurance will pay part of the bill. I thought about cancelling my next appointment, but I do not want to go through the hassle of trying to find another periodontal service.

I am very disappointed with how they handled my insurance claims. I paid in full to begin with and shouldve gone with my gut that that was weird. My insurance covered the procedure and they still have not given my money back like a grand. Its been over 4 months since the procedure. Ive called the office here and there and whoever is in the office says theyll pass the message to the head of insurance who still has not called back.6/1/2021Update, just talked to Cigna and whoever you got running your insurance practice keeps messing up the claim and is probably going to have to refile it again. Apparently, you could have reimbursed me from the beginning this whole time too. We do not know if this is negligence or incompetence, but we are seeking legal advice.8/12/2021Update, whoever is head of their insurance, I believe she goes by Yancey, still cannot file the claim correctly. Cigna is waiting on their insurance office to return their calls and fix the medical claim which go figure is now no longer responding. I would give this place 0 stars if I could just for the hassle with insurance.

As someone who has religiously gone to the dentist every 6 months and takes my dental health very seriously, I was concerned when my dentist referred me to a periodontist for a gum issue. Dr. Kretchmer took the time to educate me on my condition and explain all of the options for treatment. I ended up having two procedures with this office. Dr. Kretchmer and the surgical assistant Rudy were friendly, efficient and made sure to ease any anxieties I was experiencing. I work in the dental field so I know how important it is to have both an experienced and pleasant doctor. I absolutely recommend this office!

Had a good experience with my first oral surgery. They made me feel comfortable and I was pleased with the recovery time after the process. I have another procedure in May and based on my first visit it will be a walk in the park!

How do I begin? I lost a crown due to a very bad tooth. My dental issues became bigger than my friendly dental team could handle. Without further ugly details, I was directed to an office called, “Tar Heel Periodontics and Implant Dentistry” to have a dental implant. I did not want to go! That was then.Despite a looming, global pandemic, my initial visit with Dr. Stella was reassuringly positive! After a needs assessment, a solution was devised. We started the procedure. From 2020 “mask-covered-greetings” at the front desk, I’ve always sensed their commitment to quality. For me, the team making up this organization has consistently scored 5 Stars. I paid for their professional service, absolutely! Why shouldn’t they perform superbly?! Too often, though, people are disappointed! But, this experience has been genuinely positive for me.It seems my circle of Carolina friends has actually expanded, while we’ve been social-distancing. After a recent visit with Dr. Stella, I whispered a big THANK YOU to his assistant, Callie, through my protective mask.I started to recall her activity that day: seating me comfortably, securing my bib, checking my electronic records, aproning my lap before X-raying, and you know the rest...Dr. Stella again, performed his predictable “magic” with quality and comfort for me. Dr Valentine is very kind and professional. The office in Durham is very nice. The administrative staff is out to lunch. They do not follow up, do not make copies of treatment plans for you to take with you, ask via email if you have any questions then dont respond to your submitted questions. Ive had no Peridontal services performed there but verbal price quotes received appear to be very high.

I had a wonderful experience at Tar Heel Periodontics & Implant Dentistry. I came to get my gummy smile fixed before my wedding, and absolutely LOVE the results. The staff was so kind and made me feel comfortable every visit. Dr. Valentine did my procedure, and if I ever need anything again I will definitely be contacting him. He gave me my perfect wedding smile, and over all confidence to smile again and I couldnt be more grateful.

If it werent for the actual periodontists, I would give this place 1 star instead of 2. I was referred here for a gum graft, and my experience with both Dr. Stella and Dr. Kretchmer was great. They were very attentive and thorough, and I would recommend them both. HOWEVER: its the horrible office staff that is lending to my 2 star rating. They are extremely disorganized, arent clear about timelines, insurance claims, credit policies, etc. After a 15 month battle with them not filing my claim, then filing it incorrectly multiples times, I received a $600 payout for an almost $3,000 procedure - for which I was originally quoted an insurance refund of ~$1,800. There are some other reviewers who seem to have had similar situations, but I assumed those were specific scenarios and that my experience would likely be ok. However, I should have known that something was amiss when I went for my initial consultation. While I was waiting to be taken back for my appointment, a man showed up in the lobby asking to speak to the insurance coordinator, as he had been trying to get in touch with the office and no one was answering his calls or returning voicemails for the last 6 monhts. So , lesson learned, if youre using any kind of insurance, Id honestly go somewhere else. Its sad that such good doctors have such horrible office staff.

I went for referral at the recommendation of my general dentist. The front desk staff was pleasant but unfortunately I will not be returning here for further treatment. The dentist I saw was very nice and professional but I would have appreciated a more personalized approach to my consultation then a quick exam and then being told to watch a 6 minute video about my treatment recommendation and follow up with any questions. After this I was directed to meet with the treatment coordinator who I didn’t too much care for either. I didn’t appreciate the fact that they waited until the end of my visit to tell me I owed $195 for the day. When I inquired why this wasn’t communicated beforehand I was told it’s my job as the patient to inquire about cost before receiving the service. When I asked what would have happened if I didn’t have the money to pay today considering I had zero heads up, I was told they would bill me at the insurance allowable, then I was still charged the full amount anyway. Come to find out after talking with my insurance company after the visit, this office isn’t even in network with my plan, so I’m very happy they received their full payment whereas I as the patient am only receiving less than half of my money back, in 30 to 60 days.I received a call a few days after my appointment from a very nice lady inquiring about my experience and how they could make it better since I rated the company 1 star. I provided her with the reasons listed above among others as to why I did not like my visit and would not be returning. At the end of the call she asked if they could accommodate would I be interested in a refund of my entire visit. I told her that would be great so I could go for a second opinion but if not I guess I’ll just have to be out the $200. She stated she would talk with the manager about that. She asked if I would be willing to change my review if they could give me my money back and I explained no because a refund wouldn’t change the experience I had but I would still like my money back if possible. We ended the call by her letting me know she would speak with the manger and get back to me. I gave it about a week and called the dentist office to follow up. They said I likely spoke with a Hailey and they would have her call me. That was a week ago today and as expected I have not received a call from anyone. I’m sure this practice is great for a lot of patients, just not for me. I would not recommend.

I highly recommend Tar Heel Periodontics. Dr. Stella and his assistant, Callie, along with the entire staff were awesome during my year of various procedures to get to my beautiful end result. Facilities were immaculate. Doctor was very knowledgeable and efficient. Fees were reasonable and staff was very friendly. My only disappointment is all services are paid in advance out of pocket and insurance is filed thereafter. I personally prefer the convenience of no out of pocket expense upfront...co-pays only.

The staff were excellent, followed precautions for COVID 19, explained options to me and were very pleasant. Throughout the process the staff and the Dr. explained what was occurring and answered my questions . Showed me options for next steps. Very informative and very helpful.

Drs. Kretchmer and Stella are personal and patient, and they take their time to explain everything. They answered all of my questions in the pre-procedure consultation with no rush. I also felt confident during my procedure. They are true pros who know what theyre doing.

Dr. Valentine and his staff took excellent care of me during my procedure. I was there for a bone graft but he discovered I had a infected wisdom tooth. He was able to pull the tooth and complete the graft in one visit making me pain free!

I have been so pleased with my visits to Tarheel Perio. The staff is excellent. I have been particularly impressed with Callie and Dr. Stella. They really do care about your wellbeing and answer all questions and concerns. I would highly recommend this office to others.

We were referred here by my sons dentist to have a lip tie revision. My son has Medicaid and we were told they only do Medicaid appointments at 8 am on Saturdays. We had no choice in our appointment time, which feels discriminatory. They also called and rescheduled us several times. This made it seem like we were an inconvenience to them. Then this morning (Sat., 8 AM) when we went for the follow-up appointment, there was no one at the office, and I was not able to get in touch with the dentist on call. I had just received a confirmation e-mail four days prior for this appointment.

My first visit with Dr. Stella was enough to assure me that I would receive the best care possible. He was very patient when he explained everything to me and never seemed rushed when I asked questions. I had some anxiety about the procedure but Dr. Stella and Callie, his assistant, made me feel completely at ease and relaxed. Even though his practice is not in my dental insurance network, I opted to stay with Dr. Stella because he is what I call a patient friendly doctor and he and Callie are an exceptional team when it comes to patient care. Kecia, Allison and the rest of the office staff also deserve big kudos for being like family to their patients. I highly recommend Dr. Stella and staff. They deserve every star.

The periodontist is excellent and very kind with a stellar “bedside” manner. The periodontist was also sensitive to my extreme phobia of hypodermic needles and made every consideration to ease me through that part of the procedure.My patient advocate, Kiesha (spelling?), is great and took time to thoroughly explain costs and payment options as well as checking in on me after my visit for any post-procedure questions and recovery concerns.The only negative in my entire experience with the practice would be the receptionist. She is outstanding at southern charm fake smiling in your face while talking at you with her “bless your little heart” tone, if you like that sort of condescension.Note: this practice is not in any insurance network and requires payment in advance of appointments.

Everyone was extremely pleasant and caring to my son before, during and after his outpatient procedure. I like how we were addressed by name when we entered the waiting room and the nurses and Dr. were great at setting my sons mind at ease and helping him relax.

Had a first time appointment referred to Tarheel by my dentist. I arrive 20 min early as requested to fill out paper work.1-The doors opened 10 min late than working hrs.2- when directed by an assistance to the exam room I asked twice to see if my insurance is accepted , cost for visit and what will be covered ?3- the assistant assured me it is all taken care of.4- when done with exam after seeing the specialist I sat down with a consultant that was selling me a / treatment / service, when I asked please check what will be covered by my insurance and what’s out of pocket she said I am sure most insurance cover more than 70-80%. The consultant was a bit aggressive trying to collect a payment saying that Later I can file with my insurance and insurance will Reimburse me . I felt I was at a time share selling contest and she was trying to meet the quota.5- I declined the treatment option until I contacted my insurance.6- I paid $450 out of pocket for initial visit simply bcz they are out of network & a specialist , this could’ve been avoided if they checked on my insurance and advised with their cost.I do take some responsibility for not asking about the cost out of pocket & checking with my insurance fist, but that’s what front desk is there for is to pull your insurance and contact the insurance for you .7- Few days later I called & I asked the front desk clearly do they provide cost of treatment and what is covered by insurance prior to starting any service? The front desk said yes .. in my case they never did.I was seen by The specialist in the back he was polite and professional no doubt.I am a professional and own a business too never misinform your customer .. mistakes do happen but that was an expensive one that Tarheel never corrected ... please avoid your Timeshare style ....Thanks

Tar Heel Periodontics and Implant Dentistry provided an amazing experience. The communication and follow-up calls from the Office Manger Kesha were always reassuring. She is absolutely the best! Dr. Valentine reassured me the procedure would go according to plan and that’s exactly what happen! I am going to recommend this practice to all of my friends and family that are in need of dental care. I am forever grateful for their extraordinary service.

Ive been to Tar Heel Periodontics twice to monitor a condition with one of my teeth resulting from orthodontic work I had done as a teen. The entire staff is fantastic! Very friendly, kind, and caring. Both doctors were professional and spent time explaining the problem, care plan, and answering all my questions. Im very pleased with my care and would definitely recommend them for any periodontics care you need.

Obviously, getting an gum graft and an implant was not fun. In fact, it turned into a bigger ordeal than I expected, and took longer than I would have liked. But that was just my ignorance going into it, having never done it before. But Dr. Valentine explained everything to me and was patient with all of my questions. He was great to work with and was so kind to me. I also really enjoyed Judy, his assistant who was so kind and thoughtful!

I would not recommend going there I went for a consultation I had the same xrays done that was done a week ago at vaya dental.I’m out of 400 dollars due to my insurance plan doesn’t cover this network. I had a manager call me to discuss what had happened.I haven’t heard from her since.I will definitely not be using their services anymore.I had my services done at the Cary office.

I had a lengthy gum surgery a few weeks ago that I was dreading because I had heard others that had the same surgery say how painful and awful the week after the surgery would be. Fortunately, thanks to Dr. Valentine and the others who assisted him, I had a very positive, pain free experience. I actually worked hours after the surgery.Also Sarah Lathrop made the whole experience so pleasant with text reminders and when I needed to change dates a couple of times for surgery she was outstanding to work with.
