I read through the negative reviews and have never experienced anything as they described. I have been a patient for nearly a year and Northrup and his team saved my husbands and my lives. They worked around our schedules, made plans, and followed through perfectly. Any issues were made right with interest. This office is full of spectacular individuals as well. Ive worked with every person in that office and they may have taken a day to get back to me but they always do!The TMS therapy was 100% successful for what we wanted. For me (and its different for everyone) my migraines and depression are all but gone. I havent had a single thought of hurting myself since December! I waited to make this review because I wanted to be sure of the results. And I AM SURE!Northrup did our follow-up care and we moved my medications DOWN to now its a small pill a day. Im sleeping better, more energetic, more motivated, more everything! Its an ongoing process but even my worst days are nowhere near wanting to curl into a ball and cry. This place is the absolute best doctors office ever between the courteous staff and the very caring doctors, I actually wish Dr Paul was my primary doctor! because he takes the time to really get to know his patients and what their concerns. Dr. Northrup was very attentive and thorough through my whole appointment. From start to finish he addressed all of my concerns and clearly answered all of my questions. I was apprehensive at first but am overall pleased with the whole experience. He is highly intelligent and I highly recommended his services.

Its been almost two years since I first started TMS. I remember struggling with my PTSD, depression and anxiety during the day for most of my life, but it wasnt until it really started invading my sleep that I realized I needed more than medication to help me. It seems like such a distant memory now, but I had these terrifying dreams where I killed myself in every way imaginable. I couldnt control them at all, and it occurred nearly every night. I remember going to my PCM at Macdill with tears streaming down my face as I told her that I couldnt take it anymore. She sent me to a mental health specialist at the clinic who could only see me for one 20 minute session, so I begged for her recommendation. When she gave me Dr. Northrups phone number, I didnt expect to get anywhere. Id had a psychiatrist in the past that accidentally gave me too high a dosage and that caused me to overdose, so I was understandably nervous about seeing another. When I finally came in for my first TMS treatment, I was really scared. I dragged my husband in to comfort me for my first few treatments, but after awhile I got used to it. Justin was always really great to talk to and before I knew it, the treatments were over. This treatment isnt magic or anything, but at my lowest state it really felt like a miracle. I could actually tell the difference between MY thoughts and my depression (as if they had a different voice) which alone was incredible. Even though its been awhile since my last treatment, I feel like I have so much more control over my thoughts and feelings. I no longer refer to myself as broken or damaged. Now I can just be me. Im forever grateful to Dr. Northrup and his amazing team for giving me hope again.

If you have had a hard time stopping pain medication, this Doctor will help you get off it. The front office is very courteous and helpful. Good luck with your treatment. If you really want to be off pain meds or opiates you should have no problem here. You get out what you put in.

Dr. Northrup is an excellent psychiatrist in my opinion. He offered many treatment options for my major depression. The office staff is friendly and professional. The TMS staff walked me through the procedure and offered amazing support throughout the course of the treatments. My name is Beth Geers, I started TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) with Dr. Northrups office on March 11, 2019. I was very nervous to start TMS, but Dr. Northrup and his staff assured me that I would be fine and that this procedure has helped other of his patients with no adverse side effects. I am thankful I did TMS. I now am doing more than I did before. For example, I just wanted to sleep all day, didnt have energy to get out of bed. But when I did TMS treatments I was laying down less and less, getting some housework done, which I have been putting off. I have more energy, my mind was thinking more positive and I was more grounded. Now Dr. Northrup has decreased some of my other medications and I am doing great. Previously I had tremors in my legs, now I dont have them as much what a blessing!. I recommend doing TMS, it has dramatically improved my and my familys life. Having been challenged with the need for his professional experience for over 40 years I have seen several Psychiatrists. I have never met one like him where we both just click due to his straight forward approach, caring, understanding, and knowledge. His compassion for the caring of the human being is simply amazing. His office is relaxed, just like a comfortable living room, his team of office managers are so sincere and casual. I have been on the least amount of medication since seeing him. That has helped me become the person I strive and work hard to be. He is a real team player and I appreciate everything he has done for me.

I had TMS therapy with Dr Northrup. I can honestly say it changed my life for the better. My depression and anxiety symptoms have much improved .Professionally I am more focused, have better concentration and enjoy my work more than ever. Best doctor ever!Literally have never enjoyed the whole psychiatrist thing - always had a doctor that would legit just write me scripts without knowing anything about me and when i would have a bad reaction they would just write it for a different. I’ve been seeing Dr. Northrup for 5 years. He is very compassionate and professional. He doesn’t just dole out drugs; he actually takes the time to find out what’s going on with me and offers a variety of tools to manage depression (outside of medication). He even let me use his lightbox one winter to help out. Our meetings now are short and sweet and that’s a good thing. It means we’re managing my illness successfully.

I have been seeing Dr Northrup for several years now. He is not my first Psychiatrist but I cant imagine seeing anyone else. His empathy and genuine interest in your problems immediately removes any anxiety that may have been there about seeing a doctor about personal and mental health issues. Dr Northrup literally changed my life. I have been a patient for nearly 4-5 years and since day 1 he has treated me with the most respect and the only Dr I have had that has truly been such an impact in my life. Usually Drs don’t take the time to get to know you but he was not that way.I saw him for severe panic disorder and agoraphobia and now I am in control of my issues. Without seeing him I would have had no idea why I was experiencing the issues that I was and would stuck inside my house having panic attacks daily. I should’ve given this review a year ago but I honestly never saw him on google until I was looking for an email address!I can’t think of any reason he shouldn’t get below 5 stars, he takes insurance, appointments are always on time, he always asks about everything going on and I ask him for recommendations on the therapists that I have seen and they have been great.If you are struggling with panic attacks, anxiety, or depression I highly recommend. And this IS a real post unlike other websites for questionable Drs.

Dr. Northrup, Justin, Brittany, Dr. Josh...the entire team is amazing. Waiting to get in with them was worth it. I’ve battled depression, anxiety, adhd, bipolar and everything other ailment doctors have gotten wrong for more than 25 years. Dr. Northrup is a genius pharmacologist and got my meds right within weeks. We learned about TMS and immediately knew it was worth at least a try. Year after year of trying new medicine, new therapists, rehab and nothing was working. It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t comfortable. But with the expertise of Dr. Northrup and Justin, TMS treatment became the norm. Justin is so knowledgeable and personable. He makes you comfortable in what can be an uncomfortable setting. TMS, with the therapy of Dr. Josh Shannon is a combo I would recommend to anyone. I was hopeless at first, didn’t feel different, thought this would just be another useless effort to fix me but after the 5th week something clicked. I feel like a new person. I’m not even sure who I used to be; it’s that different. I haven’t smiled, laughed, or been able to just breathe like this in years. If you are struggling with anything, feel like you’ve hit rock bottom, TMS, Dr. Northrup, Justin...this is what you need. I would have done this 20 years ago to get my life back but after 6 weeks, which flies by, there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel. There aren’t enough stars for this treatment and this team.

Those folks who complained below, not sure where they went to the Dr. but no one gives your more than 30 days controlled substances anymore. Ive never waited more than 15 minutes for an appointment in the office. I dont think I have ever seen him past my appointment time. Nothing but a professional in my opinion.

When I began seeing Dr. Northrup in 2004 , I was suffering from severe anxiety. I was at a point that I could barely function. He was direct about the course of treatment, explaining that medication could help with the anxiety but that eliminating stressors was key. After about a year I was back to myself and medication free! I have continued to see Dr. Northrup over the years as life has thrown some curveballs. He is always accessible and has helped me attain my personal goals. Cant say enough great things about him. He is a lifesaver!

At first, I thought he was going to be great and was going to help me...even gave me some homework. Came back for another visit (and btw, the visits are 15 mins or less!) and realized he never lets met talk and just says, hmmm all the time. Even though the medicine he gave me was working fine...he raised the dosage and then it affected me in a negative way. If I say the medicine works fine..dont up the dosage! And if I say I dont like the medicine and how I feel on it...dont tell me to take more of it!! After going to 4 visits, he finally GAVE UP on me. What Psych gives up on his patients? So, I have found a much better Psych and she has even diagnosed me where Northrup couldnt. She actually asked me lots of questions and logged them into her laptop and allowed me to speak and provided a final diagnosis. Now Im not confused or feeling like Im going crazy or dying. You should NEVER give up on your patients esp when YOU are the one confused. I was supposed to go back in 3 weeks after writing in a journal for the 3 weeks...Im happy to say I didnt go back. Besides, who can diagnose you in 10-15 minutes!?

Was referred from my primary; also was told they would accept the same insurance. Called to make an appointment was told oh were not accepting any new blue cross patience Get you stuff together and let Primary Doctors know when your dropping insurance providers.

Dr. Northrup double books his patients. If you want to wait forever, this is your guy. I take time off work for my appt and require a doctor that is more respectful to his patients. Look elsewhere, there are plenty of doctors that will treat a patients time as valuable as their own. This happened to me every single appt I had and I even complained and was assured it wont happen again.

Dr Northrup is easy to talk to. He listens and I never feel rushed.

I have utilized Dr. Northrups expertise and counsel psychiatry-related issues involved in many of the legal matters I defend, and found him an extremely compitent and knowledgable doctor, and excellent expert psychiatrist.

I cannot understate the horrific nature of the treatment this man provided my wife. During the entire time he treated her (more than 2 years0, his misdiagnosed her and instead of actually treating her, continued to provide her nearly lethal doses of Xanax and Ambien. During the brief time he would spend with her (less than 10 minutes per session), he would instead encourage her to gather her friends so that he could offer Botox and other cosmetic procedures for his profit. Once we had her diagnosed by a competent MD, it was determined that not only had he made an clearly erroneous diagnosis, he had given her medications that did nothing but worsen her condition, and at doses (even if they were correct) that threatened her very life. I would not recommend even meeting with this guy, who I also understand is interested in opening a clinic in South America so that he can offer questionable methods for the treatment of opiates. Stay away from this dangerous, dangerous physician. In all likelihood, the only reason he is still in practice in Tampa is due to the limited availability of otherwise competent psychiatrists. Feel free to contact me through this service should you ever find yourself in the care of this horrific doctor.

This establishment is advertising false practices. When I tried to get help from this “specialist”, they shunned me away under the guise that they would call me back. I’ve tried to call back several times and no answer. If you need help getting off of opiates with suboxone and or therapy, do not call this Dr.

It took me several months to get in to see Dr. Northrup. When i did i was rushed through and given a script that only lasted a month. When i returned to refill the script i was told upon arrival that they would never make an appt for friday. I asked if they could call the physician to get a refill till i could see him. DR. Northrup then walked into the office and brushed by me. The receptionist asked if he could help her and he promptly stated Im a ghost pretend im not here. She looked at me and said well theres your answer! Later i was billed for a missed visit. I wouldnt treat anybody like that. What a horrible experience.
