Dr Roy Sanders is the best. He saved my foot in 2019 and he saved my other foot this year. He is a wonderful doctor who truly cares. His staff is wonderful as well. You don’t feel like a number and get the care you deserve. The front desk staff are very kind and helpful. Nancy and Tania get everything in place for you in a timely manner. Steven in the casting area was great and did my cast while I sat in a wheelchair and made me feel very comfortable he was great. Can’t say enough about my care. Such a wonderful place to come to I would not trust my issues to anyone else.

He had an excellent beside manner and thoroughly explained the procedure and recuperation process. This surgery has changed my life! I am now able to work and exercise with ease. I would highly recommend him and thank him very much.

Dr Roy Sanders did a great job of rebuilding the arch in my right foot. The procedure took me from a pain level of mostly 10 to zero. I would recommend Dr Sanders to anyone with a foot issue. .

I saw Dr. Sanders a week ago. He gave me an injection in my foot that has been bothering me for 3 years! I’ve seen other doctors, had countless appointments, injections, therapy, worn boots, had tendon release surgery with another doctor, and still lived with foot pain. The day I had the injection, I was pain free. I just knew that the pain would come back...it has not. I AM THRILLED! It’s difficult to live with foot pain everyday for years. I’m still taking it easy, but I’m looking forward to walking and living my life again. Thank you Dr. Sanders.

After an auto accident my heel was shattered. The pins inserted helped but continually increased in pain to the point of chronic. Two orthopedic surgeon friends said Dr. Sanders was the best in the country, right in my own backyard. They were spot on!! Three and a half months later I am improving every day walking on my foot without pain with PT to improve my range of motion. Now my hope of taking long walks are in sight. Dr. Sanders and all his staff are top notch professionals and I cannot thank him enough for his expertise. For post-traumatic foot surgery, he is the absolute best in my book!! A sincere Thank You!

Based on his renown and expertise, I came to Florida Orthopaedic Institute from Wisconsin specifically to have Dr. Sanders surgically reconstruct my foot. His skills are exemplary and the outcome of surgery was exceptional. There are no other orthopaedic surgeons that compare.

Dr. Sanders and his entire team were very professional and extremely helpful during my one year of surgeries and appointments. 2020 was a challenging year on many fronts. My arthritic ankle began giving me issues several years ago when I lived in Wisconsin. The Orthopedic ankle specialist there did not want to even attempt a full ankle replacement as he thought my ankle was too far gone. I know I was moving to Florida in January 2020 so ask my Dr. for a recommendation in Tampa, he said if I could see Dr. Sanders he would be my best shot at replacement. Needless to say Dr. Sanders performed the surgery in September and now I am walking, bike riding and playing golf again mostly pain free. I would like to thank Dr. Sanders and his team for giving me the opportunity to life a near normal active life again!

Dr. Roy Sanders and his exceptional team at Florida Orthopedic Institute performed an Ankle fusion on me at Tampa General Hospital, and I cannot say enough exceptional things about the entire experience! Dr. Sanders is one of those highly regarded and skilled professionals who I heard from surgeons in my hometown is the best in the business of ankle replacement and fusion therapies.Everything relayed to me is true. From the moment I first came to his office, I knew I was at the right place, under the care of the right Surgeon.Im almost 3 weeks in after the procedure, and my pain, which Ive had to endure for decades, is gone. Courtesy of his experience, his skill and manner, and the people hes surrounded himself with, I am looking forward to many years of a dramatically pain-free life.Thank you, Dr. Roy Sanders, Dr. John, Dr. Loewy, Nancy T., et al at FOI, and a shout out to the Ortho trauma team at TGH, especially Heather and her cohort.I cannot recommend this group enough to do them justice. This review is from my fiance Christian Robertson:I was born with clubfoot and began experiencing some major complications which made me unable to put any type of weight on my right foot for 5 months before my surgery in May 2018. I went to 5 different doctors, including the Mayo Clinic, and no one was able to help me until Dr. Sanders. My foot was extremely messed up-being unlevel on the ground and having deformities from my birth defect. Dr. Sanders was the only one who truly cared about my condition and was confident in performing the surgery. Clubfoot surgeries and treatments for adults is not well researched, so there was never a clear answer from doctors on what exactly needed to be done to help me with my pain but Dr. Sanders was 100% the right choice and a miracle worker. I went from being unable to walk without crutches to hiking in Colorado 5 months post-operation and walking 20 miles on a 3-day Disney trip 6 months post-operation. Thank you Dr. Sanders for giving me my life back, Nancy, and the entire nursing staff. After this whole experience, I have been inspired to also continue my schooling to become a orthopedic surgeon to help others like me.

An amazingly skilled surgeon who is not afraid to take on other Doctors mistakes! No challenge is too difficult for this experienced surgeon as he thrives on repairing and restoring lives!I met Dr. Sanders after 3+ months of improper care, by another surgeon in my home town of Fort Myers which resulted in a non-union of my compound ankle fracture. Dr. Sanders reviewed my case and exuded confidence that he could restore my leg. When prepping for the first surgery, the nurses all noted that I had found the right surgeon and started touting his accolades and experience. My care required six surgeries which included a bone graft to replace over 2 inches of degraded tibia, caused by an infection from 3 soil-based bacteria. Dr. Sanders even rearranged his schedule on multiple occasions, to perform 2 of the surgeries, since I was not a local patient. At one point, when we were exhausted from treatment and considering amputation, Dr. Sanders pleaded not to give up, as he refused to give up on me. 14 months after my fall, I was restriction free on my way to restored life thanks to Dr. Sanders.Dr. Sanders strives to achieve perfection from day 1, but that does not mean it will be quick. He does things the right way which requires time and patience. Dr. Sanders is an amazing doctor whom I now call a friend. Thank you so much for restoring my life!

Thank you Dr Sanders and team. I am over 80 and have been bothered with major pain in both ankles for a number of years. I destroyed the cartilage in both ankles playing sports and other extreme activities. Dr Sanders fused both ankles over a period of several years and I can now walk pain free. His diagnoses and surgery skills were even better than I was told when he was recommended. His personal attention to detail and his kind and gentile approach to my concerns were outstanding. His staff, especially Nancy Torres, were always available to answer my questions and help with my needs. Thank you all for making my remaining years enjoyable as I can now walk pain free. Don Blank

Wow! Double WOW!! I feel very Blessed to have found Dr Sanders!!! Having post traumatic injury deformity of the foot, he knew exactly what to do and what NOT to do! Many doctors wanted to make drastic changes with amputation, bone grafting, and more. Dr Sanders not only recommended a prosthetic for inside my sneaker, he also performed minor surgery with precision and perfection!!! He is truly a master!!! Thank you Dr Sanders for all the hard work and dedication you have put into your career and for your true genuine concern to help your patients be as functional as they can. I am forever grateful! 🦶

Due to a childhood injury I had corrective surgery on my right ankle in the 1980’s. Over the years, my ankle and foot were extremely painful and swollen....regardless of activity level. While the pain was always there, there would also be times when I could not walk without crutches. I finally received hope after seeing Dr. Sanders. He performed a subtalar fusion, corrected my hammertoes along with other work on my foot. Dr. Sanders was clear about the length of recovery and made sure I realized what a challenging 3-5 months would lie ahead of me after surgery. As I am nearing the end of my 5th month, the only “surprise” I’ve had is not having constant pain. While it was an almost 3 hour commute to Tampa, it was well worth it. I found Dr. Sanders by searching the internet for “physicians who can correct complications from old ankle fusions “. Someone had written a very positive review and the case was very similar to mine. Dr. Sanders is not just a great surgeon, but a caring and compassionate doctor, as well.

Torn peroneal tendon, right ankle. Or as Dr. Sanders put it, shredded ...twice!This was torn on a hike the first time, and an on-the-job injury the second. Exactly the same place. Dr Sanders handled both injuries tenderly and professionally. And painted a grim picture of my ankle if I did this again. His advanced repair skills were greatly appreciated in the second surgery, and warned me to stop doing this, as there was not much raw material left for a third time. I have been baby-stepping since, using his prescribed ankle brace. He was thoughtful in his approach with me, gave me options, and weighted the risks and consequences of each suggestion. He and his support staff are wonderful, worth the drive from another county to see him. And the facilities are top-notch.

I’ll start by saying THANK YOU!Truly from the bottom of my heart, words cannot express my gratitude towards the staff at Florida Orthopedic, especially to Dr Sanders, the real quiet guy, just doing his job of making people feel great again. To Nancy, his assistant sweet, caring & kind.My tibia, foot, & ankle trauma was beyond the scope of then first 2 doctors that I saw in Jacksonville, simply put, I needed an orthopedic tramatoligist. To keep this somewhat brief, I will not bore you with the how, when, and where of my incident. But more importantly to you that Dr Sanders is great! He’s a straight shooter, told me what I needed, how the procedure would go, how long I would be casted, rehab, etc! He was spot on.He did have one more thing up his sleeve which i think he may have held back on me (which I think was a good thing) That all that metal in my ankle/leg, screws, plates, etc could come out! (completed last month)!Today, I’m walking, no limping, feeling awesome not running yet, but we will see! NYC Marathon 2020!

I have been suffering from heel pain for over a year, saw a podiatrist and was told there’s not much that could be done. I was diagnosed with Achilles Insertion Tendinitis, did therapy but did not help. I found Dr Sanders, saw him last Feb, and told me the exact opposite of what the podiatrist said. He gave me cortisone injection, and I was walking the next day without pain. Hoping this shot will last long , but at least now I know there’s another option if a reoccurrence happens. Thank you Dr Sanders, I am so glad and thankful I came to see you !

I am writing this review on behalf of my husband, Anthony G. Smith. My husband has been a patient of Dr. Sanders for a number of years now (since 2005). Our first visit involved a consultation for the foot pain my husband was experiencing in both of his feet (the pain was intense and it radiated up his leg, into his knees and; subsequently, into his hips and lower back). My husband is a 100% disabled veteran having served our country for over 14 years. Part of the cause of my husbands pain were because of injuries sustained while serving. My husband walked on the outside of his feet, causing him pain and imbalance problems as well as other side effects. My husband, at 28 years old, sustained an injury (while serving) that led to a broken back and extensive knee surgery (on both knees) with multiple total knee replacements to the same knee (over the years since his injury - 3 total replacements and 3 revisions). (Yes, for those reading this review, we could have went to the VA Hospital for a doctor there to work on my husband, but Dr. Sanders came so highly recommended to us that we knew we had to go see him and talk to him. Crazy thing is that the doctor who recommended him was my husbands ortho doctor from the VA.) Dr. Sanders told my husband that in order to help to rectify these problems, he would first have to start by giving my husbands legs a new foundation from which to stand upon so that my husbands structure (stance) would be straight and solid. This meant surgery to both of my husbands feet that required making wedges out of my husbands heels to rectify the imbalance. The procedure was done at Tampa General Hospital. I remember Dr. Sanders coming into the pre-op area to visit with my husband just before the surgery started and he asked my husband how he was doing? Did he have any questions for him or concerns. Dr. Sanders reached out and took my husbands hand to shake it and said to him: Ive got you. I dont want you to worry. Were going to make you a new man with new feet. Dr. Sanders then looked at me, smiled, and gave me a nod, as if to say without words.....your husband is in good hands. Needless to say, the operation was a complete success. My husband was laid up for months and months, but the price of that was nothing compared to the incredible work that Dr. Sanders had performed on my husbands feet. And, Im talking major reconstruction.....titanium plates, screws, wedges.....the whole enchilada! The real test came when my husband (accidentally) re-injured his one foot! Dr. Sanders, upon looking at the X-rays and the injuries and damage my husband had done to all of Dr. Sanders hard work, Dr. Sanders just shook his head in disbelief! He looked at my husband and said in all honesty: I have to review these X-rays for a few days......I have to come up with a new game plan to see how I can rectify the damage and repair it. Fortunately enough for us, Dr. Sanders performed a miracle and repaired my husbands injured foot! He even wound up writing a paper on the procedure! Over those long months, with every one of our post-op visits back to Dr. Sanders office, his staff treated us with compassion and care and great professionalism. They are all top-notch. In our minds, this says so much about the kind of doctor that Dr. Sanders is and the caliber of the care that he requires with every one that works for him. His extensive knowledge, schooling, and training also carries over to the residents that he takes under his wing to share his knowledge, experience, and wisdom with. My husband just recently had to (November, 2019) have Dr. Sanders work on him again. Dr. Sanders wound up videoing the operation because he came upon an anomaly with my husbands bone structure. And, yes he wrote another paper about this!. We travel all the way from Port Charlotte to Tampa to have Dr. Sanders care for my husband. Need we say more? We love Dr. Sanders and are eternally indebted to him. Thank you, Dr. Sanders for being you.

THANK YOU - my ankle is pain free. I destroyed the ankle cartilage over the years with sports injuries and a final injury on a hike. Without all of the details I lasted on the ankle, until the pain was unbearable.I found Dr. Sanders though several recommendations, one a patient who had a great experience with Florida Orthopedic and a recommendation from a Doctor who worked at Hospital of Special Surgery in NYC.Dr. Sanders explained my ankle issues and gave me the options for corrective surgery. I choose an ankle fusion, the operation went smoothly and the post-operative period (although a hassle) went quickly as I was able to resume normal activities thereafter. Dr. Sanders and his team were great throughout. Have a question call the office and Nancy gets back to you promptly. The Orthopedic Wing at Tampa General provided excellent care during my stay there.Thank you again Dr. Sanders and your team.
