Our experience was amazing with our dog Marshall and the staff at 1st Pets! The wait time was a bit long but that wasn’t their fault. I would have just liked to maybe know where our dog was at in the order, but I’m sure that is difficult to do with cases changing by the minute and a bunch of other emergency vets on diversion. The staff helped calm me down since I was frantic. I knew they were going to help Marshall know matter how long it took! They provided us blankets to snuggle with our dog on the ground, snacks, water, and even a computer for my 8 year old to watch Disney plus on! Thank goodness! It was the perfect distraction for a very stressful evening. I also loved how up front the staff was about cost and helping me find options on how to cover the cost of the services needed. Thank you so much for getting my puppy back to himself!! I will never forget how much the staff of 1st Pets was there to support all of our needs all evening long!

This company and the staff are amazing people who care so much about our animals! Our dog ripped off his entire toe nail and not only did they get him in on a Sunday with no delay they helped and took such good care of our puggle who was in so much pain. They care so much and sent us home with a much happier dog who is healing perfect! These guys are top notch.

I took one of my dogs in for emergency surgery. The doctor did a good job with her and she survived a condition called bloat. However, my dog came home and developed a cough. They gave her an antibiotic and a few days later told me she tested positive for valley fever. My other dog then came down with the same cough a couple of days later. They would not give him an antibiotic and to date, I have been having trouble getting them to do their simple job to call in a prescription for him. They were quick to collect and request their money the same day before my dogs surgery ($6,000), plus another $600 for having to bring her in after because of her cough. Then, another $690 for my other dog, which to date has not been given the appropriate prescription to treat him.As you can see, they are expensive and their service is overpriced! I highly recommend anyone to take your beloved pet somewhere else where they will get the care they need. I have a great Vet but what happened to my two dogs happened to be an emergency. I am currently looking for another emergency type place just in case to have one on hand. I will NEVER EVER bring my two dogs to FIRST PET in Mesa, Arizona again!

From the phone call, to being greeted when I arrived, and being helped with a not so pleasant situation, this clinic is definitely 5 star worthy!!!!! The girl who answered the phone was very friendly and very understanding of a sad situation involving a stray dog hit by a car. When I arrived I was very impressed with how clean the clinic was. A very welcoming environment and a very friendly welcoming staff. They were very understanding & compassionate. And willing to help me when no one else would. Twice I have gone there and had a 3-4 hour wait for my dog to see a vet. The vet tech saw me right away but the veterinarian was in with an emergency. Why don’t they have more veterinarian’s at their locations? There were about 5 vet techs. I will find a different emergency vet place where the vet is available within A 30 minute timeframe

I came to the Mesa location since the Chandler location was no longer taking new patients. I arrived around 11pm on a Saturday and all of the staff was very nice and attentive. Front desk advised me there was a long wait, but would bring my dog back for an exam. Thankfully, they were able to help my dog out with his issue immediately and did not charge me. It was a quick and easy fix. Thanks 1st pet vet & staff!

So I have to say the one day I absolutely did not want to do was put my Pandora down. She was old and barely could see hear or get around..I hated making the call and hated to make the decision. But we did and this was by far the best choice we made taking her here. The entire staff was so friendly and considerate and seemed genuine in the sympathy you got. They gave us that extra attention you wouldnt think to get. They made me feel a little better about it all. We chose to bring her for a proper burial and they got her ready for us and brought her out in a cardboard casket with flowers and her paw prints. I cried so hard but they made me feel so good inside. IWas there Thurs. Todays Wed and just now in the mail I got a card from them and lots of signatures.i highly recommend this place for any type visit. Thank You everyone who helped Pandora finally find peace.😭.

Yesterday one of our rescue seniors was acting like he had a stroke. My friend recommended 1st Pet Veterinary to us to take him in for an emergency visit. We have never been to this vet and actually live in maricopa. I called the vet and right away they said to bring him in. They let us know that it may take a couple of hours, but they will get him in right away. When we got to the vet all of the staff were very friendly and understanding. They took our Jojo back and said that the doctor will call us when they have news for us. Not even an hour later Dr. Butler called us to inform us that our guy had a massive mass and it was leaking. Dr. Butler was so patient and kind and informed of us of what we can do. We decided the surgery would be to much for our guy to handle so we decided to let him go. When we got back to the vet all of the staff were so kind and informing. They had a beautiful room for where they do the procedure to put doggies or cats to sleep. They let me spend time with my guy before and after he was gone. I just want to say thank you to all of the staff and Dr. Butler for treating my Jojo and I with so much love and respect. We have other rescues and plan on bring our other guys to them to treat and to do check ups on them. It is worth the drive to have our pets treated with so much love and care. Thank you guys so much.

In Mesa with my mom, both from out of state, to take care of my son & daughter in laws dogs. During our stay,, my mom ended up in the hospital & had emergency surgery. Then...my lil princess chihuahua started acting off. They were able to get me in and most important to me, they let me stay with my baby the entire time (other than x-rays & labs, which is to be expected). My chi is a rescue who has no teeth and I dont know how old she is, but she has been with me 24/7 for the past 5 years. To be able to be with her in the clinic meant the WORLD to me. The thought of possibly having to hand her off to someone was killing me.. Thank you ALL for your kindness to both of us. 💗

Me and my husband took our 12 year old dog here on Friday. They got us in right away to a room to talk to a vet tech. We left after an intake assessment was done and left the dog with them. The price for an assessment was a little high, but its an emergency vet and it was expected. Around 3 hours later the vet called my husband to talk to him about the issues our dog had going on. She seemed very professional and didnt try to push any unnecessary treatments. We were offered blood tests and x-rays but we declined because they were a little pricey. I like that they didnt try to shame us into getting them and that the doctor was very straight forward, honest and compassionate and took the time to answer all of my husbands questions on the phone. We got prescribed some medications and all but one were filled in house. It took a couple more hours after that for our dog to be ready to be picked up but she came out happy and with a cute bandana on. 10/10 would recommend this place.

So grateful and thankful for 1st pet and staff. I tried to find my girl help through vet clinics and other hospitals with no resolve, concern for her or my financial situation and my love for her. I gave up. I could not watch her suffer anymore. I went to 1st pet hospital with her to say my goodbyes. I could not let her suffer anymore. We were greeted with kindness and genuine caring for my girl and for me emotionally. They took her under their wing and got her on the road to recovery. I explained where I was financially and they listened and kept me informed through the entire process. Taking the time to teach me aftercare. Immediately, we rushed her to the Mesa location, and they quickly assessed her situation as critical. They recommended removal of the fragment. After some careful thought, we had them do the procedure. Dr. Butler and Dr. Deer were both excellent in their explanations and taking care of Meg. Im happy to report that the procedure went well, and now we are thrilled that Meg is still with us. We will be eternally grateful to the excellent care she received at 1st Pet. I called this location tonight because my dog stepped on something in our back yard and was limping and whining pretty badly. They let me know they were at max capacity, but would be happy to take a look and make sure he was stable. They also offered to give me numbers for their other locations if I’d rather go elsewhere. I called the location on Country Club, which was a bit further away, and they said they would be happy to take a look, but there was a 3-4 hour wait.On the way to the Country Club location, my dog started to pant heavily (in hindsight, this is actually pretty normal for him). I freaked out and decided to go to the Southern location. They happily got my information, took my dog back and checked him. When they brought him back out, they said it looked like a possible scorpion sting and to let him rest for the night, with further instruction on if he was still limping in the morning. They didn’t charge us anything, and everyone I spoke with was friendly and professional. As soon as we got home, he was pretty much back to his normal self (of course!). This is my first dog and our first incident, so I may have freaked out a bit too much… but better safe than sorry :)

When i went to put down my cat after 16 years I was treated differently than what my other cat recieved months before (both being old and dying) For my first cat I recieved two paw prints that seemed to be done with care, recieved ashes with tag and a bit of fur. Second cat I received a sloppy paw print no tag in the ashes and no fur. It seems like they cared about one and didnt the other (the other cat being black i am assuming it is due to black cat hatred in the US since theres silly superstitions about black cats being evil.) I just wish I got the same care with my cat as my parents did with theirs. This was a 5 star review from 3 years ago when my cat recieved great care. unfortunately her last visit was the worst. I checked the live action activity on the board online and it says not to busy right now... yet no one can check in with us and we are still waiting 4 plus hoursnow. I can understand waiting 2 hours but 4 hours and NO contact from them at all. I feel like they have forgotten about my dog. In the meantime we sat in the room and heard our dog barking for 45 minutes straight. The veteranarian came in an hour after we were in the room and gave diagnosis and we were finally discharged. We took buddy in yesterday for a urinary/bowel blockage. The girls that greeted us initially were very nice and answered all our questions but we needed to talk to the doctor. She called us back, finally, because we were sitting outside waiting. Tells us that they can fix him, but it would cost us $3-4000 and theres no guarantee that it wouldnt happen again. We dont have a lot of money, so we asked about other options. $1200 was the best we could get without 3 days in the hospital. Im on disability, so I cant afford that much. She said the only other option was to put him to sleep. I wanted to take him home with pain meds and keep him comfortable until he goes. They wouldnt do that. They said he needed to be put down today. I was very reluctant but kind of agreed, since nobody was on my side. We spent time with him before it happened, which was good. Dr death butler came in, and the first words out of her mouth were, put your masks on please. I said why, theres nobody else in here. She gave me the dirtiest look and acted like she was going to leave. Anyway, we started the process and she said that the first part was to put him to sleep but still be alive. That never happened. She did the first one, then the second one right away. Buddy died with his eyes open and his tongue out. No compassion to even let him close his eyes and sleep first. Then she just left the room. No sympathy or compassion. Its sad and pathetic to know that your ability to pay, or not pay ridiculous amounts of money for your pets care is the deciding factor in whether they live or die. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! Now my best friend is gone because I couldnt afford their outrageous prices. Even putting him to sleep and cremation was over $700. RIDICULOUS

They took the best care of my poor girl who broke the end of her tail and needed that portion amputated. However, one area for improvement for the COMPANY (not the staff at this location) is affordability, and offering various payment options. We had to pay $1800 all upfront, unless we wanted to apply for a credit card. I was grateful I had the ability to pay for this upfront, but I truly don’t believe that this is the case for most families especially during a pandemic and financial crisis. I cannot say enough good things about this clinic and Dr. Hineman. We came here under extremely sad circumstances, and they were the closest 24 hour clinic that had good reviews. We had taken our baby girl to another clinic earlier that same day where they did very little to nothing to help. They made us think she was just dehydrated and maybe had an infection. Things got very bad within just a few hours after that, and we rushed her to 1st pet. Within an hour of taking her to 1st Pet, we knew what was going on. Our baby passed away sadly at their clinic, but I’ve never met such wonderful, compassionate people at a vet’s office before. They did everything they could to ease her passing. We’ve been devastated at losing her, and they’ve gone above and beyond in every way possible for us. I literally cannot say enough about the things they’ve done for us since losing her. I already pulled the records from our previous vet for our other cat and have setup an appointment for her here. I wish we would have found this place under happier circumstances, but I’m happy it was them that we found in that moment.

I want to start this review by saying that the front desk was very kind, and very helpful. We brought our senior dog in yesterday who was suffering from heat stroke. Upon arrival they said they needed a $900 deposit before they could start helping him. We were told this would go towards anything he needed (and mind you I understand pet care is extremely expensive) we decided to pay it to proceed, the doctor told us we could leave and he would call us with updates, the first update he called with was a suggestion that we should euthanize because “one of his kidneys shut down “momentarily” and he wasn’t sure if he was going to make it because of how severe it was, we asked if we could wait for a while and base our decision off of his current status, he said “yes absolutely we would like to keep him 24hrs to monitor and treat him” they told us it was going to be $2800 for an overnight stay. So when we told them we didn’t have $2800 we asked if we could take him home for a few hours and then take him to a regular vet that takes payments first thing in the morning, they stop being as urgent with updates and when I finally picked him up he looked really good and perky they told us that we could follow up with a regular vet in 3-5 days instead. So now I’m confused on the severity of my dogs health, and the different info I’m getting seems very mixed. Again I would like to say that the front staff was extremely nice and helpful. Thank you to them again.

I wish I could rate less than a star. I took my dog to get check out from a bite and decided to pick him up before they were able to take a look at him so I could take him to a different vet. (My mom freaked out on me when I told her I took him here). I went to pick him up and they “accidentally” told me my dog was dead and got him mixed up with a different dog. Then still charged me $200 for literally doing nothing and traumatizing me. For more details on my story you can visit my tik tok @moodytricity my story is already at 354 thousand views!

My puppy had an allergic reaction. 1st Pet was very responsive, thorough, and acted quickly to get him out of his discomfort. I did not have an appointment on a late Friday afternoon, and only waited about 15 minutes have him initially evaluated. A few minutes later they suggested I go home and try to relax as they monitored him. A few hours later he was back to normal. Fair pricing for 24/7 emergency care.

Took our kitten in and they said it would be 900 dollars for treatment and they hadn’t even seen what was wrong with cat. Told them rescue I got it from thought it was fib and they went in and came back couple minutes later and said yes it is and charged me 680 dollars for euthanasia and cremation which seemed high but agreed because had crying daughter there. Went home and checked around and everywhere else seemed to be around 150-200 dollars for same service. Might want to shop around first and save a lot of money

In the time of COVID I feel that the staff and doctor provided the best care for my dog. When I called for an appointment they were quick and efficient. When I pulled into the parking lot and called to let them know I was there, we didn’t have to wait long for them to come out too collect him for examination. We also didn’t have to wait long in the car for the doctor to call me back and discuss my dog’s problem and treatment plan. Soon after they brought my dog back, along with the medications that he would need. The whole ordeal lasted about an hour. I clearly wasn’t the only person there needing service for their pet as I saw many others in their cars waiting like I was. Still, with so many pets there, it was quick, efficient, professional, and so easy. I feel grateful that this office is nearly across the street from my house and I will recommend them to all my friends and neighbors to go there.

I just want to share my experience with 1st Pet this week, which was overwhelmingly positive. We thought our pup had eaten something as his stomach was distended and he was throwing up. My regular vet was full so I had to call an urgent care facility. I called 1st Pet and the employee told me that while they were currently on bypass due to workload, they would see my dog because they thought it was urgent.I brought him in, and before I was done filling out paperwork they were bringing him out. They checked his vitals, determined he must have gotten into food and overate (which I found out later he did) and did not charge me a penny for the visit.Very professional and very caring, I appreciated that.

I had a 9 week old puppy who stopped eating, drinking, and even moving within a span of about 48 hours. I had no idea what was wrong but it was clearly progressing quickly so I was having a full anxiety attack by the time that I got to the clinic, and everyone there was so amazing at managing to put me at ease while also making sure I knew that they were taking this seriously. Within less than a minute of me pulling into the parking lot there was a staff member at my car to take her in. The staff was super nice, they were diligent about calling me with any updates, and were up front about the cost associated with everything that they were doing. There were no surprise charges when all was said and done. They had my baby back to normal within a span of just a few days! And they followed up after I brought her home to make sure that she was still doing well, see if I had any questions about her medications, etc. This seems like one of the few emergency clinics that is really run by animal people. I would recommend this place to anyone.

These place is horrible! My 16 year dog had to be put down and the first time they euthanized her it didnt take because they had put in the needle wrong so I had to go through it a 2nd time. They also gave me the wrong urn and now want me to pay more due to their employees error for the correct one. They didnt even document her chart correctly. Whitney the Office Manager treated me with so much disdain and rudeness I just finally ended the call. Tell everyone you know to never, ever use these Vet Offices! They dont care about you or your experience with them to make things right. They just want their money and I was dumb enough to give them $505 of mine for a botched euthanasia and the wrong urn!

I was so impressed with 1st Pet!!! First of all the place was immaculate! The room was quiet. There were other people and pets there, but we never heard a peep! The vet assistant that saw him first was really great. The doctor was fantastic. We had to have Xrays taken and the doctor was very forthcoming about the results. They did a follow up call and then the doctor called with the results from radiology. While our little guy will need further treatment, I am so glad that we took him in and that we know where they are and that they are open 24 hours for future reference. I cannot give enough praise for a great experience, even though our little guy was hurting!!! Thank you !!!!

When you have an emergency the last thing you want to hear from an ER vet is that they cant see your dog thats had a seizure. Telling them to call their other location another 20-30 minutes away makes it even worse. Its unfortunate that I had to take my senior dog to a completely different ER vet that wasnt as close but in the end it was better because another ER treated me & my dogs end of life situation far better than 1st Pet who didnt care.

I would never return to this office and highly recommend others do not go here. I arrived Friday evening with my French Bulldog who had been choking on his food and was struggling to breathe and vomiting bile. The tech brought him in the back and was explaining to the doctor what had happened and told him I performed the heimlich on him at home and said “dramatic”. Any responsible pet owner would have done the same thing. Another doctor came over and they were saying my dogs name and he wasn’t looking at them because he was obviously very scared. They then started laughing and joking about how maybe he is deaf and because he’s a frenchie, you never know with them. When the tech brought him back in the triage room, I told him I heard everything they said about me and my dog and his face was shocked. He knew immediately that it was wrong to have acted that way but tried to play it off and back track. I understand vets build tough skin and see a lot of terrible things, but at no point is it acceptable behavior to talk badly about a pet owner and joke about their animal that’s in distress. I’m truly disgusted and hope no one else is treated this way especially in an emergency situation.

They were not rude over the phone but when I called I was told wait time was only an hour. Once I got there I was told again it would only be an hour wait. They brought us to a room after sitting in lobby for about 10 min. and then we spent over 2 hours in a cold room with no communication. After 2 and 1/2 hours I called a vet around the corner and made an appointment to be seen right away and left. The only reason I give 1 star is because later when our dog passed away my husband brought her there not knowing it was the one with bad service earlier as it was late at night and our dog died as he laid her down and they put her in a box and didnt charge us. They really need to get more employees or stop letting so many people in, its better to turn people away than make them wait 2 plus hours for their dying pets to not even get care.

We brought in our Saint Bernard for a groin issue on a Monday. We had to drop him off due to Covid restrictions in place and we couldn’t stay with him. We got a response from Dr Cogan later that day telling us that we could bring him home and monitor him without any additional treatment needed at that time. He prescribed a anti inflammatory and doggy aspirin. The following morning our dog woke up with a huge blue spot on his chest and red itchy, flaky skin under that area of his fur. We searched high and low for something he could’ve gotten into in our home but nothing showed up. I immediately called 1st pet to see if it could be a reaction to the meds. I didn’t get a call back until 2 days later where they said it was from chlorhedex. The receptionist didn’t know what that specifically was so a tech would need to call back to explain further. They didn’t call back until 5 days later - after more outgoing calls to their office - that chlorhedex was used to treat the itchy and patchy skin when he was at his office appointment. Dr Cogan nor his team never asked if they could treat my dog with this mediation (and I didn’t release them to treat without consulting me first), and he never mentioned it on the two calls I had with him on the initial day of appointment. I asked the tech what would be needed to treat the area and she told me I’d have to bring him back in for an emergency appointment because they had no available general appointments, and we’d be responsible for the paying for it even though they never communicated this issue in the first place - even though they treated it while in their care!!!!I have never received such inconsistent information regarding my pet and I will never take him back to first pet again. I’m so disappointed in the lack of communication, and that they wouldn’t tell us exactlyWhat had happened during his office visit. This all occurred at the 1st Pet Mesa location

I decided to ask a person on a time frame or to see if there was any staff available and was told it could be another 6 hours with no explanation or apology I decided to leave. It was a waste of time and highly inappropriate and lazy to say the least.

24 hour pet emergency clinic, except at 11:00 pm?? I called the clinic 15 minutes before and the receptionist who clearly doesnt know or care about pets, told me theyre open and to call when I got there. 10 minutes away, I was the only one in the parking lot, it looked closed...I literally knocked on every window because my dog was so sick! No response, no answer. I then drove 35 minutes away from the 1st pet clinic to another clinic who absolutely took excellent care of my dog and it wasnt a 1st care Pet clinic! I will tell you, 1st care, did not take FIRST CARE OF ME OR MY PET! Sadly, I was the only one waiting in the parking lot....I guess, nap time was more important to them?

Overall a bad experience with this place. Although my cat was seen, after he sat there for 10 hours, no exaggeration, all they did was blood work and tests to see if he had any diseases, thankfully not but did have an infection so they gave me antibiotics and said hed need them twice a day for 2 weeks, 3 weeks if hes doing good on it. They didnt even give me enough medicine to last me 2 weeks and when I called back to get a refill they supposedly said they gave me a paper that said they would need to see him again so charge me another $500 to get a refill on something that they should have given me enough of. So they wont refill the antibiotics they know my cat needs, they suggested I make an appointment with another vet which will probably take at least a week or two to get him in, while hes not on medication to get him more medication to put him back on medication, does that make sense to you because to me it seems a little ridiculous.

I would like to express how disappointed I feel and how sad it is coming to a place with no compassion and no principles that only cares about how much money they can get from you and if you can not afford their service they offer to put you pit down or go home and figure it out on your own. They don’t take the time to offer people other resources or places more affordable for the ones with no possibility to afford their ridiculous prices or options to care for your pit . Please remember that you mission should be saving life’s or to be compassionate to the patients and to their owners, you are dealing with life’s.I paid you 1200 on my visit you stated my dog needed surgery that would cost me 9000 and if there was no money to pay my option was to put my dog to sleep never did you care about my dog wellbeing or peoples feeling never offer other more affordable places or any other more reasonable resources. I found another place the next day where they provide the same service for less than 10% of what you charge me. My pit and I were treated with dignity , compassion and respect and they provided the hope and comfort that we needed at this difficult and emotionally painful times..... I also heard the same story from other person that you offered the option of putting their pit to sleep because off unavailability to pay your high cost treatment, their puppy is alive and healthy no thanks to you but to the fact that’s they left your business and found a better place that safe their puppy.
