Truly horrendous. Dr Dalton could not give two rips about your care, he will just tell you to take another pill. Read all these reviews before considering reaching out, they are all correct and my exact experience too. (Good luck getting anyone to call you back in the first place.) Think twice before putting your health care in this practice’s hands!

I could not believe the lack of care here. I see I am not the only one. Time is of the essence with some medical problems so I would advise you not to waste your time and go elsewhere. And I thought UT was supposed to have the best of care. This office needs to be addressed.

I have not even been seen by this group yet but have called the past 3 weeks for someone to give me a call back and set up an appointment time. Nothing then last time I called they told me my appointment to which I had no knowledge of, had to reschedule it bc I work. The gal on the phone was so rude. I work in health care, I understand the amount of stress but do not treat people like they dont matter. Rude!

Had a diverticulitis flare, called to see Tasha Monday, they said come in. Drove 45 minutes to the office and all they did was send to a lab for blood. I guess she doesn’t realize she could’ve phoned those in to a lab near me. If they’d said I wasn’t seeing a Dr., I would’ve gone somewhere else. Will NOT go back.

Please do not let an elderly family member, or anyone who may need some assistance go to this practice alone. This is the worst medical facility I have ever encountered. Dr. Dalton you are a sad and sorry excuse for a medical professional. I’m so let down that you would talk to a patient the way you did, knowing there are severe health issues they are facing. Dr. Dalton stated that he also ate clean as we did and, well, he didn’t have any problems then proceeded to call my husband an alien because of medical issues. RUN far far far away from here. Unless you want to be mocked, humiliated, and embarrassed. Keep in mind if the Dr would have done a simple review of medical records he would have very well seen the issues we were seeing him for, but he would rather focus his time on being sarcastic and hateful. (Patient was a disabled Veteran). It was very difficult for a well educated, decorated veteran to be spoken down to, made fun of, and mocked.... from Dr. Dalton. You should simply be ashamed. If you want treated with a minimal of an ounce of dignity go elsewhere and save your money. The office manager will also say she wasn’t in the room, and she is sorry you feel that way. This is not acceptable UT, fix the problem, your patients well being is at stake as is your reputation. My experience seems to match the online reputation of this practice. This wasn’t isolated and I should have known better than to go here in the first place. The culture speaks for itself.

Ive been a patient of Dr. Samavedy at this practice for about 10 years. I think he is a very good doctor. But, the practice is either overwhelmed with patients or it is understaffed. I cant tell which. But, the care received here has gone downhill significantly the past few years. I was diagnosed with gallstones in 2010 and I was referred to this group. They also noted an enlarged bile duct. My gallbladder was removed in 2011 but I go annually for either an MRI or ultrasound to check the stability of the bile duct. It is stable. I used to get the test then see the doctor every year. About 3 years ago, they stopped seeing me for no reason. I just receive a letter saying it is time for the test, then I get a letter with the results. Dr. Samavedys nurse is very difficult to get her to return your call, timely. Last year, the MRI detected a blood clot in a vein between my pancreas and my liver (Portal Vein Thrombosis). The results letter noted it, but gave no further instructions. So, I called Dr. Ss nurse and she returned my call within a day. I asked her was this serious, did I need to see Dr. S., did I need further tests, did I need medicine, does this indicate something worse? She said she would check with Dr. S. and contact me if I needed to do anything. Two full months went by. I assumed everything was OK. Then she called me and said Dr. S wanted me to see a Hematologist. I asked why it had become important for me to see this specialist now after 2 months of waiting. She said she had just gotten around to asking the doctor about it. That is unacceptable. Also, if I hadnt called to ask, I dont believe the doctor would have ever taken any action on this. The hematologist was very proactive and ran lots of tests. This clot can be a sign of a blood disorder, cirrhosis of the liver, liver cancer, etc.; all serious conditions. Fortunately for me, I had none of these. I took blood thinners for 3 months and now have to take a daily aspirin for life. Also, I am very opposed to their zero tolerance for getting a second opinion. My mom was a patient of Dr. Anderson in this group. She had her gallbladder removed in 2019 at age 75 and immediately started having issues. She cannot eat anything and has lost about 70 pounds in the past year. At first, Dr. Anderson did an upper GI and said she had Celiac Disease and she started the gluten free diet. It did not help. He wont discuss it further with her now. She had no choice but to find another doctor in another group. The best thing I can say is stay away from this group.

Pro: Dr. Dalton has a really great sense of humor, which is necessary for his line of work.Cons: 1) Dr. Dalton does not believe that diet or lifestyle play a role in IBD. I disagree with this, but to be fair, most doctors follow western medicine so I try not to hold this one against him. 2) The more grievous issue, as far as Im concerned, is that the practice does not allow you to get a second opinion. I saw Dr. Dalton and was diagnosed with Crohns Disease. He immediately wanted to put me on Remicade infusions. I saw a dietician and made significant progress so I decided against the Remicade - for now - in favor of diet and lifestyle changes. However, it was evident that diet and lifestyle would not completely address my issues. I then saw a GI at Vanderbilt to confirm that the course of action suggested by Dr. Dalton was my best option. They believed that my diagnosis was wrong; they favored Ulcerative Colitis and started me on a different (less invasive) course of treatment. However, this course of treatment also did not alleviate some of my issues. I was already scheduled to see Dr. Dalton again, so I confirmed my appointment with the intent of checking my inflammation levels and beginning Remicade infusions as I believe that I have exhausted my other options. Despite calling the office four days in advance of my appointment to confirm (which they did), I received a message on the day of my appointment stating that I had been dismissed from the practice due to having seen another doctor for a second opinion! I was told I could no longer see ANYBODY in the practice. In my opinion, it is the right of the patient to explore ALL of their health options so that they can make the best decision; apparently, University Gastroenterology does not feel the same way. I was never informed of their policy to dismiss patients for getting a second opinion and am disgusted that they dont have enough faith in their practitioners to be confident that a second opinion would end in the patient returning to their practice. I informed their office that I had no intent of switching doctors, but that I needed all the information I could gather before I could make a well-informed decision. I was, clearly, returning to their office for my regular care. However, I am now in pursuit of another GI.

This terrible rating comes from ONLY phone conversations regarding trying to become a patient at what they claim is “the finest GI office in Knoxville.” What a joke. Rude isn’t even the word for their front office staff. “Call back in an hour...call back after lunch....call back in the morning....they are in a meeting...your records are being reviewed.” Never intending to actually return calls or help concerned potential patients. Healthcare is a people business, and you all aren’t “people” people. Shame on you University Gastroenterology. I would hate to know how they treat their patients in office. Luckily, it didn’t get that far.

The doctor talked down to my wife. They did nothing to address her problems. They ran test and basically said we don’t know why you are having problems but keep doing what your doing. When we went to transfer doctors they gathered her files and said come back in an hour. 45 mins later the office was closed for lunch and people in the office would look at us an walk off. Never again.

I had elevated liver enzymes for 3 years and felt ignored by other doctors, Dr. Anderson was able to provide answers/diagnosis quickly, and with each follow up visit my health condition continues to improve. I really like Dr. Anderson because he is straight to the point and is able to answer my questions. Very professional.

Very rude staff. If you have a past due bill, they refuse to see you. I had over 3 surgeries last year and cannot been seen over a bill under $100 thats already been in collections. I am in agony but cannot been seen. They will not even accept a payment, they want it in full before you can be seen. I am in agony. The one time I was there the office staff was giggling while a cancer patient was waiting on them, she was elderly and told them sternly how rude they were. Dalton does NOT have bedside manner and besides being sent for test, was very disappointed in the lack of care

I very much like Dr. Rollhauser but the office staff is horrendous. I had a endoscopy and was then asked by the Dr. to schedule a ultrasound as soon as possible. That was 3 weeks ago and I have yet to receive a call back to schedule from his nurse. I have even left a complaint for the practice manager that has also been ignored. You can’t get anyone on the phone and just have to leave messages. I will no longer be dealing with this practice and suggest anyone looking for a GI doctor look elsewhere.

I went to UT GI to see a specialist and was extremely disappointed. The medical records that were faxed there never got to the doctor so I spent most of the appointment trying to explain medical test results and history. The doctor was arrogant and basically sent me out of there saying he didnt know what was wrong and try some over the counter stuff. I have been sick for a year and asked for a test to help determine the cause and he refused. On top of that when I walked in the office the receptionists were watching videos on a phone and laughing. Even when I walked up to talk they didnt stop which I thought was extremely unprofessional. After the appointment the nurse told me the medical records were at the front desk for an entire week and never got sent to the doctor. If youre sick and looking for help determining the cause to get better this is definitely not the place in my opinion .

Ive been to multiple GIs at various groups with poor results and lazy Drs and staff. UG is a great group with caring staff. Dr Dalton was the on call GI when we met him and he saved my husbands life during a medical crisis and then I started seeing him for my own issue, and after years of poor results and treatments, Dr Dalton managed to get my gut straight. His nurse, Cindy is wonderful, very on top of things, and its a sweet, compassionate person. I cant say enough good things about University Gastroenteeology.

Rude beyond belief I am still in shock at the level of rudeness and down right hatefulness of this woman. I have never experienced this type of behavior in a Dr. before, I sat there and let her talk down to me and be rude to me for about five minutes but then at the last straw I stood up and announced we are done here I wouldnt let you treat a dog let alone myself and walked out! I had read reviews to this effect but chose to ignore them and just chalk it up to a dissatisfied patient well I know now what they meant! You have been warned.
