I went to my dentist and he took X-rays and said I had a possible crack under my crown so he suggested I go to Dr Hughart to see what he thought. I went the same day and told him I had just been to the dentist and gotten X-rays. He insisted he do his own X-rays and then came in the room and said he thought I needed it pulled. He said there was nothing he could do for me. He never even looked at the tooth in question! And then billed me for an office visit and the X-rays. He spent maybe 5 minutes with me. The least he could have down was look at the tooth. And he only wanted additional X-rays so he could charge me for them. Very unprofessional.

I had some of the same experience as another reviewer down below name Gina. I was panicked and in a lot of pain. I needed a root canal and someone suggested I come to this doctor. I also like the other reviewer name Gina knew I was in trouble when the doctor came in. Cold and unfeeling made it worse for me. I have had a number of root canals and never this kind of pain before ever from a dentist. I told him I could feel it and he gave me another shot. I told him that was enough and he gave me more. I held on to that chair with dear life. I was shaking and wanted to die right then. I never had any dentist do to me what he did for a root canal. I dont remember with his type of procedure being done on me. It was so painful when I walked out, the lady at the front desk ask me if I was okay. I said no. When I got in the car the person driving ask me if I was okay and I said I want to die. I got home and popped 800 mg of pain relief and cried. I ask myself if it was my skin color, my gender, I didnt know what would cause a doctor to treat me that way. I dont want to give one star but you know you have to. It doesnt take a genius to know you should be compassionate and caring if you are a physician. Some patients are going to come to you a little nervous. You cant be there to let them know they are in good hands and will be okay? I guess not! Never again! If you are also a cold and unfeeling person, then come to this office. If you dont care, then come to this office.

I went to have an exam to see if a root canal was necessary after having broken a tooth. My arrival time was for 8:45 with an appointment time for 9:00. I of course sign in early fill out the paperwork and wait. The lobby was completely empty. So after setting and waiting until 9:40 and still waiting for a 5 min exam. I got up and left.

I had a root canal done years ago by Dr Hughart. Let me start off by saying I have incredible anxiety. Especially when it comes to anything dental. This man is great. The atmosphere is relaxing (they play Fleetwood Mac — it’s pretty much fate). The procedure didn’t hurt, and didn’t feel good. It felt like nothing at all. Like I just laid there and then bam. Done. Anyone who is afraid of dental work, I highly recommend this oral surgeon! You won’t regret it. I’m going back to him next week for another root canal. I actually can’t even wait 🤣

They have the worst staff in all over Knoxville. I have one of the best dental insurance. I ask them several times about the coverage and they told me you dont have to pay anything because we are in network. so I agree to work with them. Later they told me you have to pay 40 because you teeth required more work and I agree on that. Then surprisingly with out any acceptable explanation I received a bill with 80$ !! I asked them Why I do receive that ? there answer we dont know!My advice be careful if you plan to visit this office. Because you will be scammed

By far the best experience Ive ever had! The staff was friendly and kind and Dr. Hughart was so sincere and professional. He made sure I understood everything about the procedure (root canal) and that all my questions were answered. But, what exceeded my expectations even more so, was when I received a call from Dr. Hughart later the same day just to check on me and see how I was doing. I wish all doctors cared this much about their patients. I would highly recommend!!!!

I did not have the same experience as the other reviewers. Dr Hughart was recommended from my dentist for a root canal. Leslie at the front desk is professional, efficient but lacks empathy. I spoke with Lyndsey on the phone twice and she was very compassionate. Dr Hughart is professional but comes across detached and indifferent. I had been waiting in pain for this appointment and needed assurance and guidance but instead I left confused and had many questions. I recalled with questions and I told Lyndsey my concerns and she was very understanding. I also told her I did not want to make the MD mad I just had a bad feeling. Instead of assurance or direction -Leslie the front desk lady called and they canceled the procedure and recommended I go elsewhere. As a healthcare professional myself I found this disappointing but maybe the best case for my personal situation. I found a new MD and was treated excellently. For these reasons I would not recommend this office.

I saw Dr. Hughart and his team today. I had to get a root canal done. I have been to a number of dentist offices over the years for a wide variety of dental work. This is one of the best. Dr. Hughart is very kind and works quickly and ensures you are not in pain. The rest of the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. I highly recommend them for any dental work you could need. Wish they could be my general dental office!!

My review differs because I did not see Dr. Hughart as a patient but as a shadowing student. He and his staff provided very personalized care with great professionalism. My time with Dr. Hughart was exemplary of what healthcare should be. His interactions with patients showed a level of ease and expertise that astounded me. He is an exceptional doctor and provided the highest level of care Ive ever seen. If I ever need to have any work done, or that of my family, he will be the one we see.

The staff was fantastic and friendly but the most important was the efficiency and care I received from Dr. Hughart. The dread of past experiences from other root canals was a thing of the past once I was in that chair! There was NO PAIN involved. Not even in the needles!!! I was really in a state of awe! I wouldnt think twice about going back! He was the best root canal in 30 years!!!! No need to look any further people!! A highly-skilled Endodontist, Dr. Wayne Hughart! Cant thank him enough!

Dr. Hughart is the kindest, most professional and knowledgeable oral surgeon I have ever known. I previously had other oral surgeries done before moving to Knoxville, so I feel very confident I am able to give an objective opinion on this; Dr. Hughart, by far, is the most exceptional oral surgeon Ive had to pleasure to see.I had quite a difficult root canal performed by Dr. Hughart. I was, understandably, nervous. However, from my initial contact with his office staff (so wonderful and caring) and first meeting with Dr. Hughart, I felt I was in excellent hands. Dr. Hughart is kind, empathetic, and honest. He clearly is not only an excellent oral surgeon, but he is also obviously a huge family man. He shared with me a few stories about his family (3 daughters and his wife), and he most definitely is a really wonderful man, all-around. In this day and age, I think people will agree with me thats extremely important, along with excellence in his practice of oral surgery.Dr. Hugharts office is very comfortable-I already mentioned how wonderful his staff is-exceptional. Dr. Hughart explained thoroughly what my procedure would entail and what to expect afterward. He answered all of my (many) questions patiently; I believe he spent a lot of time making sure every question or concern I had was answered well, and for that I am so grateful. A lot of doctors wont take the time to do this, or will have other staff go over things with you--not Dr. Hughart. While his staff is very knowledgeable and Im sure could have answered my questions and concerns, Dr. Hughart made an outstanding effort to ensure I was completely comfortable with what my procedure involved and with what I could expect.I did not feel *any* pain during the procedure (aside from the initial numbing shots-we all have to get through those no matter where we get oral care!)--and I have a very sensitive mouth, so not feeling pain is really very unusual for me, especially since this was a root canal!Dr. Hughart was pleasant during the procedure, talking when he sensed I wanted him to, telling me what he was doing before he did things, and being an overall really nice man. His staff was right there to assist, and I felt very comfortable and felt I could not have gotten better care.My recovery was extremely quick--I did follow Dr. Hugharts directions--iced the area (and, may I say in response to another post I saw on here: people-you DO use ice to reduce swelling--everyone knows heat makes you bleed a lot more, and can make you swell like crazy; ice reduces swelling and numbs any pain that may come after the anesthesia wears off), changed gauze as needed, etc. After the procedure I followed Dr. Hugharts follow-up treatment instructions, and all was very smooth. I needed no pain relief (although I was given some in case it was needed), and after taking out the initial gauze, I had just a few spots of blood afterward, and no blood at all after a couple of hours.I was absolutely fine the very next day, able to eat whatever I wanted; you would never have known I had a pretty major root canal done just the day before.Dr. Hughart, himself, called to see how I was doing. Again, this was something he could have had staff do for him, but thats another example of what a good, caring man he is.I recommend Dr. Hughart to anyone who wants an excellent, talented, knowledgeable, caring oral surgeon. My teen-aged daughter has to have her wisdom teeth out soon, and I will take her to Dr. Hughart.I also always recommend Dr. Hughart to my friends, and they all think the world of him, as do I.Thank you Dr. Hughart and staff!!!! You guys are wonderful!!

My experience with Dr. Hughart wasnt as pleasant as the others. I went to see him to have a root canal done and ended up having to see an oral surgeon and have a total of 8 surgeries performed on my face and jaw. I literally almost died from visiting Dr. Hughart! Instead of putting me on antibiotics for a few days before performing the root canal he went ahead and did it anyway. He then broke the tip of the root off the infected tooth that allowed the infection to seep into the soft tissues of my face. As if that wasnt enough, I went back multiple times over the following weeks , he dug open a hole in my gum then opened it up with pliers. Then he proceeded to tell me to put ice on my jaw, instead of heat which should have been applied, and sent me home again to let the infection solidify like jello and crystalize on my jaw bone. For the next 4 days my face continued to swell and look like I had a cantaloupe hanging off of my face. My tongue was so swollen I could no longer eat or drink. I have a fever constantly, and nothing would touch it. Dr. Hughart then called my mother every day to check on me and she kept telling him it was getting worse. Eventually almost 3 weeks after my first visit to see him, I was back in his office, with my cantaloupe of infection hanging off of my face, in a tank top and thin pajama pants in March because my fever would not go away and I was burning up. He walked into the small room I was in, looked at me and said Ill be right back and left. 10 minutes later he came back in and handed my mom a piece of paper with an address and phone number and told us they were expecting us, to go see that oral surgeon. The oral surgeon was just a few minutes down the road from Dr. Hughart. When I arrived at that office, thereliable was a nurse standing there waiting with the receptionist. They looked at me and handed my mom a clip board to fill out and tookept me back immediately. The oral surgeon came in the room and looked at my face and told me I really should send you to the emergency room to get IV antibiotics but you will be dead before they get you back. He then started an IV with fluids and sedated me. While I was under, he had a suction tube going the entire time that he drew 6-60cc syringes full of infection from my face. He then out a drain in my jaw to continue to drain puss and infection from my face. It was so bad that for 4 or 5 days I had to change the dressing every hour because I would have pus running down my neck out of the bandage dressing. I was draining about half a cup to a cup of infection over the course of an hour all day every day for four days! All in all, it took 8 surgeries, 4 drains and 3 months to recover from such a simple procedure that Dr. Hughart specializes in! Not to mention thousands upon thousands of dollars in medical bills to the oral surgeon. I have been left with a physical scar about an inch long right under my jaw bone, crystallized infection on my jaw bone that had to be scraped off, and a metal mesh pad inserted into my neck to make the scar lay flat. But the mental scar is much larger than what you physically see when you look at me.Please be careful and dont let this man put you through what I went through!
