As a retired physician these are the reasons for my very positive, now 2 years in a row, experience.Efficient sign-in and sign out/schedule next appointment process with friendly helpful staff.Overall wait time reasonable, the pre-doctor exam visit and discussion process with imaging and vision/glaucoma testing accomplished smoothly by friendly and informed staff. The “flow” for the patient was easy and efficient. Most importantly Dr Sullivan was thorough in his exam and allowed time to answer all my questions and address concerns, and explain his concerns, recommendations and appropriate follow up.Despite the office being busy I never felt rushed.I’m very satisfied and give my highest recommendation.Michael Miller

Take Dr. Sullivan out of this “one” rating. This has nothing to do with him, and everything to do with MIKE, the office manager, and a couple of the office staff. My daughter, age 21, lost sight in one of her eyes. Her optometrist sent her to the Waycross office the same day he saw her. She sat over 2 hours to see Dr. Agee. Ok… so they were working her in? 🤷‍♀️ Wonder why all of the other patients (the ones with appts) had been waiting for 2 & 3 hours? From talking with other patients and reading reviews, this is typical for this office and the Jacksonville office. No doubt, as I see it, an exhibition proving that in today’s medical world, in some places, patients aren’t at the center of concern or care. In my opinion, it’s a shameful picture of mass assembly line care for mostly elderly patients who shouldn’t have to wait that excessive amount of time to be seen by a doctor. With that in mind, I’d likely give a rating of 3 because of the wait times. However, to my reason for giving the lowest rating, a ONE. Long story short…errors, lies, and the fact that office manager Mike (even after it was proven) wouldn’t -just couldn’t- accept responsibility or apologize for the errors, lies, or the distress caused by an accumulation of these circumstances. Poor rating for professionalism garners a ONE rating.

The physician, Dr. Sullivan is fabulous. I have found the other clinical staff to be very cold and lacking customer service. I feel like I am a cow in a herd of cattle being shuffled from one room to the next. The wait 2 - 3 hours every time is extremely dissatisfying and inconsiderate of my time. If I were 2 hours late for my appointment they would cancel me and still charge me. I don’t know whether they overbook or what but unfortunately once are there you are stuck till you see the physician and seeing the physician is critical. I do understand that there has to be a wait to have your eyes fully dilate but the rest is poorly managed. I wish that in the second waiting room they would out some soothing music or soothing video instead of the loud home buying show. If it weren’t for Dr. Sullivan and his expertise I would not out up with this total lack of respect for my time. He is awesome.

I was referred to Dr. Agee and I could not have chosen a better retina specialist if I had tried myself. He treated it the first day I seen him by sealing the tear with a laser right there in the office. It was not painful and he corrected the issue immediately. I just recently went for my 3 month checkup and everything is doing fine. I have one more checkup at 6 months and then, I just to have it checked annually by the optometrist. I was referred to Dr Sullivan after a retina detachment. He reattach my retina within 20 minutes but the floaters remained from May to December (7 months later). He said he could remove the floaters by vitrectomy surgery. Being a busy December, I asked what was recovery time, he said 2 days only! I accepted to do it on a Thursday so I can return to work Monday. After the surgery, I had severe pain before discharge. Nurses told me, I was not supposed to have any pain after vitrectomy. I had to take heavy milligrams of Motrin to keep pain under control. He used SF8 gas to insulate my retina during the surgery but I only found this on my research what happened. No one told I would not see with the eye for 1 month because of the gas, let alone the daily pain I had. I had to use pain killers and still don’t feel right today. The worst that I think happened was that on my next day post surgery appointment to remove the protective cover and check the pressure in the eye surgery was done, the pressure recorded on the eye in question was 39! Dr. Sullivan missed that appointment as if he knew to expect the worst. It was another doctor that saw me and he said he has never seen such pressure post surgery, and for a guy like me battling glaucoma, that’s pretty bad!My vision has totally been altered and can’t see long distance with the right eye even with my prescription glasses. Another eye examination revelation left me stunned. Cataract has been introduced after the surgery and I am already under Glaucoma watch.Dr Sullivan has a calming, soothing effect with words but his work left me wondering if I made the wrong choice for him butchering my right eye. I am left with having refraction lenses to be able to see long distance again, but beside that, I occasionally have pain I never had before, two months after vitrectomy. I am worried that the Dr Sullivan’s experience was meant to remove the floaters. However, I still see floaters and this guy wants me to come back in three months? No way!

Went to see Dr. Agee and had a great experience with the entire Southeastern Retina Specialist staff. Ive seen Retina docs, on and off, for about four years now in multiple states. You should know that its the norm for an appointment to take 2-3 hours, wherever you go. Go in expecting that.Anyway, this is my second of third time at this practice. Surprisingly, todays appointment was much quicker than usual--probably due to smaller patient volumes due to Covid as well as it being near Christmas. From a Covid perspective, I was very impressed. Number of patients was minimal in both waiting rooms. The front desk clerk voluntarily insisted on cleaning the card swipe pen for me before I signed (not something I brought up). All staff were wearing masks properly. The guy who is the FA person/fundus photographer/OCT guy is really top notch. He takes very clear photos and does a great job with the IV--barely felt a thing. The scribe/tech (not sure which) who took my vitals was top notch as well.Dr. Agee gave me a good exam, and explained how my condition was progressing--what we needed to look out for, and appropriate follow up.I would definitely recommend Southeastern Retina Specialists. I was married to a vitreoretinal surgeon for almost 20 years, including during his residency and fellowship. He never worked for/with Dr. Agee or Sullivan, but through him, I had more exposure than most to the field. I can tell you that this group is top notch as is their reputation among optometrists, ophthalmologists, endocrinologists, and internal medicine docs in the area.

I have a history of retina problems. In 2003 I developed a macular hole in my right eye. I had surgery and was face down for three weeks. The hole closed but my vision was not restored. In 2014 I had the beginning of a macular hole in my right eye. I received an injection to stop the hole from progressing. In 2015 my retina detached in my left eye. I went to a different surgeon in Atlanta to have it repaired. In February 2020, I developed a macular hole in my left eye. Due to Covid my surgery at Emory was cancelled. I knew that I had a small window of opportunity to have it repaired. At this point I couldn’t read or drive and my quality of life was severely diminished. My local ophthalmologist had an assistant who was experienced in retina issues. She put be in touch with Southeastern Retina Specialists the day I called her. After less than thirty minutes on the phone I not only had an appointment with Dr. Agee for the next day I was scheduled for surgery the day after. When I met Dr. Agee he was extremely concerned about my sight and made no promises as to what could be achieved with surgery. The surgery was painless and I was awake. My vision is the best it has been since 2003. I had to retire from teaching ( which I loved) in 2013 because my vision was so poor. I cannot begin to express my appreciation for Dr. Agee. I wish they would not try to cram in so many patients at the same time. I believe that this leads to a frazzled work environment with an assembly line process. Multiple offices and rotating staff make the continuity of care more complicated . My only advice would be to plan a minimum 2 hours from whatever your scheduled appointment time is. SE Retinal Specialists were the most helpful in getting it resolved by far.My only complaint is that wait times can be long. Ive waited for over 3 hours on some days to be seen. Save yourself some of that pain and try to get an earlier appointment. Otherwise, this is one of my favorite doctors to visit by far. Very courteous and skilled.
