I have been in therapy most of my adult life. I have seen counselors, psychologists, priests, pastors, psychiatrists, rebirthing etc. I know a good therapist. I have been with UCSF psychiatry for years and have had 6 different doctors who are overseen by Dr. Campbell. Each doctor was excellent. I was finally diagnosed correctly for the first time in my life. One psychiatrist told me I could be completely healed and healthy. No one in all my years of therapy ever told me this. I guess the best thing about their services is that my quality of life has improved so much. The staff is caring, patient and professional. Lisa and Andrew couldn’t be better. For those with complaints you can request another doctor if you choose. As far as billing, I think that is a matter of Community Hospital which can be a bear. I just pay up front which has always been their policy.Love this place. I would highly recommend. You will get better.

I didnt mind the doctors so much. I didnt particularly like being talked to like Im a vegetable though. In addition, I find it a little odd that they are essentially licensed but all have to consult with a different doctor. If you felt competent and reliable, you would have no need to consult unless you were a student. In addition, I love how I never got notified of being able to pay my bill online but instead received a delinquency notice through the mail. Who the heck still pays bills through the mail? Please mention the website to your future clientele upfront versus only mentioning it on the bill form. I would have paid it day of if I had known about the website. Needless to say, I am glad I returned to my prior doctor in the bay.

Both my son, age 11, and my daughter, age 21, are patients in this practice. My son started last August (2019) while my daughter started this year (April 2020).With my son, we waited about 4 months for a phone interview then another 3 months for the appointment. My daughter, who called in October, had to wait until the following April due to the residency change at the end of each calendar year. This was mainly because appointments were full going into the end of the year and then new patient appointments were booked out after the year changed over.It does appear that the adult practice is fuller than the pediatric practice. She usually goes 1-2 months if she needs to reschedule while my son can typically get in the next week.My son has had 2 psych residents. We like this second male resident much more than the first female resident but it is more personality than expertise. Both doctors have been well trained and I definitely saw growth in both as the year progressed. I appreciate that we see residents and Dr. Krause. We all like and appreciate Dr. Krause. She has been focused, caring, and knowledgeable. She has worked with us through med changes, dose changes, schedule upsets and now Covid. We transitioned seamlessly to telehealth meetings and we’ve done those since our shelter in place started. My daughter is just beginning her therapy and she is very happy so far. They have been working with her to determine her diagnosis and recently changed her meds and titrated her dose quickly. We have already seen positive changes in her mood and motivation. We are excited to see how she does going forward. Our mental health opportunities are very limited in Fresno. It took us 4 years to find a practice that took our insurance and had openings. I’m very pleased that this practice exists to train new doctors with the possibility that some will stay and open new practices here.We have had only a few minor issues with refills and I lay most of the blame on Express Scripts which is ridiculous at the best of times.

My HUGEST complaint is communication with front staff and doctors not processing refills within a reasonable amount of time and manner! it was incredibly difficult to get through to make the 1st appointment and as Ive sat in the waiting room Ive witnessed the ones in front ignore calls continuously. Not when they are on phone or with patient, but slowly filing and what not. I guess its ok if they consistently returned calls, BUT THEY DONT. Its hit and miss. More importantly is the difficulty to get prescriptions refilled. multiples faxes from pharmacies and calls from patient are required to get regular scripts refilled. VERY VERY FRUSTRATING!! If they dont want the burden of refill requests, simply prescribe it for more than one month out! Im sorry, this is getting old and beyond RIDICULOUS

Dr. Karen Kraus has taken care of me for the past five years of my life and was the first psychiatrist I felt to actually listen. I came from Herritage Center, which in my experience was an awful place. Here, there are a few primary psychiatrist then there are the residents under them who cycle out every year or so. The residents can think theyre all that and a bag of chips but dont be afraid to vocalize yourself to them or the primary psychiatrists. Dont let them make you feel like what youre saying doesnt matter. Assert yourself as well and dont expect the doctors to facilitate everything if you want treatment to work.

My experience was that the doctor did not listen to me at all. I have chronic pain and take pain medication that makes otber medication difficult to use. I have Serotonin Syndrome and I kept telling my doctor that but he kept prescribing SSRIs which made me feel sicker. So far Ive tried 2 different SSRIs but the outcome is the same. I told him about both my chronic pain and my reaction to the SSRIs along with the pain medication Im taking. To no avail. Ive given up with this doctor.

What a joke. My son was diagnosed with a depressive disorder and I couldnt get a new patient appointment for 6 months. I guess these folks are great if your mental health can wait 6 months or your mental health works with their schedule.

I first came to University Psychiatry associates hoping for continuity of care. This is not AT ALL what happened. Upon my first appointment, the intern(Psychiatrist in Residency) called me to request an appointment change due to her vacation. I told her I recently moved to the area and am in dire need of medication management. Needless to say, she rescheduled my appointment. At the appointment, she stated that my medication list was a shotgun. So, she took me off all of my medications due to “her” negative disposition on ADHD and did not feel I suffered from a comorbid disorder. I presented/ pointed out, the symptomalogy of ADHD/Depression in my personal and professional life. The Dr told me that I will need neuropsych testing for confirmation of ADHD. Needless to say, I did the neuropsych testing and my results showed Inattentiveness. However, my results still didn’t correlate with ADHD patients and so it was decided inconclusive. End result, I lost my job because of my disorder. If you’re an educated individual, do not go here. The people are not authentic and will speak to you as if you’re a stigma in mental health. DO NOT GO HERE. If anything, she made me want to return to school to be a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
