Went in to the emergency room as potentially covid. Got right back to a bed and a wonderful ER Tech Tina came and took my vitals and ran an ekg and swabbed me for COVID. That was the last good care I received. It was a horrific experience and quite honestly, I am completely traumatized. From being accused of drug seeking, (which I didn’t even ask for so much as a Tylenol), to them not even addressing my horrendous cough, the the HUGE clerical error of declaring me pregnant for which I had not even taken a pregnancy test. Not to mention my chart said I was pregnant and they came and did X-rays without even asking if I was pregnant or thought I could be pregnant. By the way, I’m NOT pregnant. I’m beyond frustrated. I will NEVER set foot in this hospital again.

Biggest joke of a hospital I’ve ever seen. Takes forever to get care, they put you through a million test just to rack up the bill. Went in to be seen, told them what the issue was and they proceeded to do X-rays and CAT scans that were not needed nor asked for. Then try and send me a $3,200 bill after insurance paid 90% for a bunch of things I didn’t need. Asked for a review and they claim that it was needed. DONT EVER GO TO DMH, WONT FIX WHAT YOUR’RE THERE FOR AND WILL SCAM YOU FOR EVERY DOLLAR THEY CAN.

Idk why this place has such negative reviews. I imagine its because the reviewers were there when it was very busy. Went in for chest pain and all the staff were super friendly and caring and made sure I was comfortable. Everything was very clean and everyone wore their mask correctly. Also the quickest ER visit Ive ever had! Was in and out in just two hours. I felt cared for and will definitely return if any more problems arise. Thank yall for everything!

I took my 78 year old mother here to be checked out after a car accident on the previous day because she was in so much pain that wasnt apparant after the accident. We sat in the waiting room for 6 hrs watching people come and go before anything other than registration was done for her.I understand that the ER is busy with all the covid stuff going on but there has been enough time for the hospital to figure out how to deal with the amount of people who think they need to go to ER for a covid test. She was finally able to get into a room in the ER 9.5 hrs later and she had injuries that required her to be admitted but we didnt get all the test results back before I had to leave her and her age related confusion alone with the poor excuse of emergency care. The hospital should be thankful that she didnt have any life threatening injuries.

I just wanted to give a shout out to all of the staff , Dr’s and nurses. My mom was taken by ambulance to the ER for some health issues and it turns out she had Covid and pneumonia on top of some other health concerns. The staff has been very compassionate, helpful, informative and have went above and beyond to help by mom be comfortable, also help her communicate thru face time and other means when she was having difficulty figuring things out... Obviously we can not be with her and she has told us several times how nice all of the nurses and staff have been. Also Dr Ben Esperaz has also went above and beyond checking on her. The whole pandemic has been overwhelming to everyone especially our elderly and front line workers. I just wanted you to know your heart and compassion does not go in noticed. My family wants to say THANK YOU for doing what you do every day ... we appreciate all of you from the paramedics, ER staff , Covid unit nurses and staff, operator when we call into the hospital and the front desk for delivering items to our mom, and the Patient coordinators who have bent over backwards to get our mom the extended care she needs. All of you have gone the extra mile!!!

I would give this hospital a quarter star. I will never recommend this hospital to no one. Their nursing staff is rude and one nurse tried very hard to embarrass me in front of all the people in the waiting room. I took my bracelet off and left. I was already distraught by having to go to the ER. She could see I had been crying and yet she made me feel like I was taking up her precious time. I am from the Bloomington/Normal area and I can assure you that Doctors and Nurses in my town would never think to be so rude. and snotty. They would lose their jobs. I will drive an hour to my town for better care.

To the people complaining about having to wait in the ER- go find a dictionary, look for the word “triage,” and then come back and complain about how your issue is just so much more important than everyone else’s.That aside, I’ve never had a bad experience with this hospital. I suspect that conducting oneself like a civilized human being goes a long way toward a good experience here. It’s like people in the medical field are actually human and deserving of common decency and respect. Extra stars to the awesome volunteers in surgical waiting; they’re the best!

I just left the CCU unit at DMH. I had a complicated heart surgery performed by Dr. Derrick . Dr. Derrick kept me and my family constantly inform on my progress and answered any questions that we had.I cannot give enough praise to Dr. Derrick and the absolutely wonderful staff at the CCU UNIT. I was never without someone asking me if I needed anything and readily responded if I did. The staff was exceedingly friendly and made a bad time bearable. A great reflection of what a hospital should be.THANKS TO ALL THE CCU STAFF.

The billing department is rude and uneducated. This has happened 3 times. They didn’t bill both insurances that I have them. When I got the bill, they said to tear that up and they will bill the secondary insurance company. Then I get a letter stating that I owe a smaller amount and within two weeks, they have turned me into collection agency. Three times this has happened! If my child’s specialty doctor would go to St. Mary’s, I would be thrilled.DMH needs a billing stuff with an education greater than a 4th grader. Total waste-there are enough unemployed people out there that could do much better. If I could rate a negative number, I would.

The emergency room is terrible. Plan on waiting 2-6 hours just to get in a room. If you are lucky you will see a doctor within an hour of getting in the room. They always say they don’t have any rooms but you walk back and there are a lot of empty rooms

My 4 yr old is in agonizing pain has been throwing up and had a fever for the past week. I brought him in because hes grabbing his right side where his appendix is and complaining that hes in pain. The dmh front desk staff does not care at all. Shes not willing to move him in front of other patients when he is clearly in more pain than any of them. It would be nice if we could get a facility the actually cared about kids. :(

My father was set in his ways said he preferred this hospital. I cannot find one a good thing to say about this hospital other than they have a nice cafeteria. The staff are not friendly and my father was always in the ICU or on the fourth floor and it amazes me how many obese nurses worked there. When I think of a doctor or a nurse I think of someone who is health-conscious and cares for the welfare of others. There were times when I would be at the hospital with my father and I would push the button and it would take them over 40 minutes to even reply or comment. I dont know if its because theyre understaffed or if the nursing department just sucks.I would not patronize this hospital. My parents were on a fixed income and in one month my mother forgot to mail in a payment and they immediately turned her over to Midwest Credit. I think it is just sickening how money hungry they are and care more about the mighty dollar then the care of their patients.

Go to St. Marys or elsewhere! ER--you will wait HOURS! This place is an overcharging, militaristic hospital. My grandfather insisted on being brought to this hospital 7 times over a period of 1.5 years. His last time was at another hospital. Many times, they would keep him extremely long and not know how to diagnose. The last time, they checked him into a rehab across the street. He was given the wrong prescriptions and even dropped while being moved. This place is so pre-occupied with money and not care. The bills were outrageous and way above other hospitals for the same care he received on a final visit. They would not work with my grandmother on a payment plan and now she hows thousands to collections. Despite great insurance and medicare, they still charged exorbitant amounts. The staff are not friendly and the nurses are overweight, out of shape and just rude. Nope, I will never allow my family members to be so stupid as to choose a place like this.

Ive spent a lot of time at the DMH E.R. through my line of work as a Case Manager for adults with disabilities and am almost always extremely frustrated by 70% of the staff I encounter. However, there are many great and caring people that do work there. Generally though, I find the e.r. to be unprofessional (staff constantly joking and laughing) and unacomodating, especially for the individuals I accompany to the hospital. A good portion of the attending doctors and nurse practicioners treat you like you have absolutely no knowledge or capability when it comes to providing helpful information. I know the job is extremely important, honorable, and all that but theres no need to behave arrogantly towards people who come in for help. I can understand and deal with the long waits, but the atmosphere in the e.r. makes it unbearable.
