I went for a facial yesterday, a lady name starting with J has done mine .I got facial with microdermabrasion, I was so surprised she didn’t even address my concerns properly . She hasn’t done my extractions around the nose right and also she never touched the neck or below chin area . I already told her once and asked why she hasn’t done the neck and she was like it’s an extra charge 🙄 ! Secondly she hasn’t massaged the face anywhere else except the cheeks ? How would the serum absorb ? Spent $150+ on this so called facial , this was the worst facial experience in my entire life . Im so furious ! I’ve unnecessarily suggested my friend to come to this location as well unnecessarily. However she had another astecian for her facial and seems she has done a decent job . Would rather book somewhere else from now on !

I DO NOT RECOMMEND.Yesterday, I noticed I got a charge for $69.95. I called today to figure out why I was being charged and it turns out I was being charged for their lifestyle membership that I NEVER signed up or consented for. Katie, the manager, looked into my account and turns out there was someone elses consent form in my profile. She canceled the unwanted membership and proceeded to tell me I would have a credit on my account, but will not be refunding me my money. After I told her that I needed to be refunded for a charge I NEVER CONSENTED to Katie told me to call my bank, so that they could reimburse me. I find this to be completely unethical and unprofessional.Its honestly a shame due to the fact that I was looking forward to seeing Rachel again as she was amazing.

I’ve been twice for a massage and both times were great. The reason I give it 2 stars is because for a week now, I have been trying to contact the manager (Ashley) and no one has called me back. I called every day to check what’s going on and she’s either off that day (So I received false information) or shes training. It seems ridiculous that they can’t even take 5 minutes to speak to me. When a receptionist answers the phone, they aren’t helpful and very dismissive. The issue is that I called in July to cancel my membership and they said okay. Now I’ve received an email saying that because I didn’t update my payment, my account is suspended and I have to use my packages within 3 months. I really wish I never got a membership with this location.

My massage was pleasant and my massage therapist was nice, but as many reviewers have stated, timeliness is not valued at this business. My massage was supposed to begin at 12:30, I picked this time slot because I have to pick my daughter up from school at 2PM. So I imagined that my massage would be over at 1:30, leaving me plenty of time to get from the spa to my daughter’s school ... this was not the case. My massage therapist was nearly 20 minutes behind schedule, so before my service even started I was frantically sending out text messages for someone else to pick my kid up. This is not relaxing. Even if my tech was 5-10 minutes behind, I would have still had ample time to pick up my daughter, 12:30 should have been the perfect time. I am also a massage therapist, so I understand that sometimes your book can get chaotic when clients come in late, but the client that is late should have their time cut, not the client who comes on time ... which leads me to my next point, my massage time was cut. That was my reward for being early and patiently waiting almost 30 minutes for my service. I won’t be returning.

Lets talk. Now, I dont normally do reviews on businesses because I feel like everyones experience is different. What serves as one person’s outstanding service is just “ok to someone else and that can create some false narratives about pretty great places. However, Hand and Stone in Columbia creates a fantastic illusion of what good service can be and then totally fizzles out. Upon walking into the establishment you are greeted by a friendly enough associate that may or may not know how to check you in or out for your service. There have been several instance where I have been waiting 15 – 20 mins for my appointment to begin. Your assigned (or chosen) masseuse is usually pleasant, however, they rarely adjust for the time you’ve waited in their lobby to get the services you’ve paid for and that you were on time to receive. There were times I called to schedule a service and either no one picked up the phone or someone picked up the phone and said it’s busy well call you right back and never do. I was canceled on several times, however, nothing was ever offered to assuage my inconvenience. To be fair, the associate who contacted me when they canceled did try to reschedule me, but none of the times I was offered worked with my schedule so my service packages from my membership stacked up. I don’t have money to waste so I made the decision to no longer do business with Hand and Stone.My first 2 massages were great so I decided to invest in the membership. Looking back at it now this was a Bad idea! First, no one ever takes the time explains the terms and conditions of the membership to you. They quickly take your money and process your “paperwork” to lock you into giving them your hard earned cash. They never tell you that your packages are non refundable and non transferable. You have 90 days to use your remaining packages if you decide to cancel and if you don’t use them they will expire. That’s just what you want to hear during a Pandemic, that they get to steal your money without providing a service after 90 days of canceling your membership (what if they call to cancel on you, do you get compensated?). Let’s not forget that they have a 30 day cancel policy, which means when you cancel they still take one last payment. Oh! Did I mention it took me 2 weeks to cancel my membership? Well it did. I called to cancel (the story I got was someone was going to call me back) and no one called me back, so I visited the store, nothing got done. I literally had to call several more times before I got any assistance. I’m highly disappointed in how easily they took my money and how dissatisfying my last few interactions with this company have been. This has just been my experience. I really hope that your interactions don’t end like mine did.

I am excited to go and cannot wait! I just booked my first appointment and so far it went very well. Amethyst was so welcoming and polite. She was knowledgeable of the services and did not keep me on hold for long periods of time. She was even being paitent through my hearing loss. With customer service like that no wonder they stay in buisness.

I have had membership for several years now. I have consistent high caliber service. My masseuse is extremely professional, attentive, and friendly. I have several muscle issues that Alvin pays careful attention to. I think the value is incredible. The membership is the best option.

I am fairly new to massage, and Luke put me right at ease with his confident and professional manner. After asking questions to understand my goals for being there, he proceeded to give me an excellent and relaxing massage with great pressure. He kept checking in with me to be sure the pressure was right and that I was enjoying the experience. I particularly enjoyed the hot stones, my first time getting those. I would definitely use him again, he did a great job, and the overall atmosphere of the spa itself was warm and relaxing.

I had the pleasure of having Lauren C. as my facial esthetician. She is extremely professional, funny, and knowledgeable. The building was clean, and the atmosphere was relaxing once you get back to your room. I enjoyed the heated bed. Lauren made sure to wash her hands before, during, and afterwards. I was offered a new mask after I finished my treatment. I will definitively be returning.

The first massage was wonderful, though there were a few issues that reduced the experience. I did the paperwork online before arriving, and was more than 20 minutes early. However, the massage started late, though it ended on time, so I lost 5 minutes of a 50 minute massage. The registration required me to confirm the appointment 3 times (once through email and twice through text), which I did every time, but that seems excessive. Registration also required me to fill out a form stating I was having a non-eventful pregnancy, even though Im male, so that needs improved to be marked as optional or even better, eliminated entirely for males.Update after two more massages: quality had gone down. Ive had better massages from students at a massage school, and for a much better price. The last two seemed mechanical and not really responsive to how I was, compared to the first. On the last, the hot towel given to me to clean up afterwards was so hot it was scalding, and so I couldnt use it for longer than a second or two before having to put it down again. Still asked to confirm each appointment 3 times.

I returned a call about a job interview and the woman I spoke with was extremely rude when I tried to inquire about the hourly pay rate for associates. She became very dismissive towards me because of my question, I did say I was looking for a pay match at the very least. I understood that it is preferred to do an interview first which I was still willing to come in and do to see if I was a good fit for the position but Ashley barely let me get a word in and proceeded to tell me not to bother and hung up on me. I do not find this type of behavior to be mature or appropriate and the whole phone call could have been addressed in a better way than it did. If anyone else is considering applying for their sales associate position I would think twice before sending in an application or returning phone calls.

I went in to have a hot stone massage on my birthday. I will say I enjoyed the massage. However, after coming out instead just paying and going about the day in my relaxed state, I was bombarded with information about becoming a member and another appointment for the month of May. I felt very pressured and was no longer relaxed. It was suggested I email instead of call if I wanted to cancel. As told I emailed Ashley to have the meebrship and appointment canceled. Instead of this being canceled, I was charged for the membership even though I made me request prior to being charged. This all seems very predatory and dishonest. Needless to say, I will not be returning. It is a shame because as I said, I enjoyed the services, but cannot ignore the shady business practices. I DO NOT recommend.

The atmosphere was very relaxing and the staff were very accommodating.My esthetician for my facial was Lauren, and she was amazing.I thought I just had really big pores, but she showed me that they were actually huge blackheads, and she got all of them!Highly recommend her, she is the best esthetician I have been to so far.

I wanted to book 2 appointments, one for my husband and the other for my father as gifts. When I asked to pre-pay, I was told I was unable too and was only able to put a card on file. I then asked to pay in cash for the appointments and was unable to, apparently cash is not king. Keeping my credit card on file for someone elses massage, so you can up-charge them, or having my information stolen in a data breach isnt very appealing. Thanks but no.

This was my first birthday present facial in which I hesitated to do since I’m like super “manly” LoL, but after experiencing the facial and shoulder massage - wow, it was a “Shazam” moment and I will be going back! I mean this experience was awesome and allowed me to truly understand and experience what “pampering” is all about. I was able to book a facial and massage the same day. My facial with Emily was amazing and really relaxed & prepped me for my massage. The front desk ladies put me in a room after my facial to wait for my massage room to be ready and I sat there for 45 minutes! No one checked up on me, I got dressed and when i got to the front of the desk 3 employees were up front (no clients) who then told me my masseuse was running behind in his schedule. No one felt it necessary to walk back and have a 30 second conversation with me about that apparently since they were so busy up front. I was really looking forward to relaxing for once and unfortunately I dont feel I will be back even though I had an amazing facial. I would recommend going somewhere else.

We cancelled in October 2020 and they told us everything was okay...fast forward to February 2021 and we are STILL getting charged. Weve talked to managers, weve talked to Sales Associates, no dice. We called 4 TIMES to cancel! They talked to us like we were stupid, it wasnt OUR fault your employees miscommunicated. Dont sign up for anything with this company, youll get trapped for months no matter how hard you try. Well take our business elsewhere.

IMPORTANT!!!!! PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING TO THIS PLACE.They have had two confirmed covid cases, but they refuse to tell the clients that come in. Every answer is we have not had any covid cases since reopening. Upon finding out about the first covid case, they did not take the proper methods of informing clients that came in on the days this particular person came in. As well as tried to play it off as though no one worked along side this person. They tried to force my daughter to come in the next day even though she had prolonged exposure to this person. I as her mother told her that she needed to quarantine herself for the next few days until we know for sure. After three days of being in quarantine my daughter started experiencing covid symptoms. She tested positive a day later. If she would have continued to work at Hand and Stone during those days, she would have exposed every single person in that building and every person who would come in contact with those people later on. Hand and Stone, should have taken responsibility for this and closed their doors, for client and employee safety. But instead they continued to stay open.They put everyone at risk and they only cared about themselves and the money they could be making. I wanted to warn people who were thinking about going to Hand and Stone, that they are putting themselves at risk. They do not follow standard guidelines of example, there is no social distancing, no regular sanitizations... etc.

Google asked what I dont like about the business and offers three suggestions: poor quality, not professional, and poor communication. I dont feel any of those apply. I suppose the words to best describe my experience are disappointment and frustration. I cant vouch for the quality as we were never able to get our massage (story below). They were absolutely professional in our phone dealings. And I wouldnt classify their commucation as poor, but it definitely needs work (phone communication was good, but there is clearly an issue with their scheduling system).My wife originally called to set up a couples massage for us (and as a surprise to me). They took our info from her and assured her that I would not be contacted until the day before the massage. Unfortunately that wasnt true, and I received an email immediately confirming my appointment for a massage (so if you were looking to surprise a loved one, be warned).Our massage was scheduled for Friday, 10/9. The night before our scheduled massage we received a call from Hand & Stone advising a masseuse had called out and they needed to reschedule us. No problem, life happens. The person I spoke with was extremely polite and professional; we were moved to Sunday, 10/11.3 hours before our appointment on Sunday, we were called again and advised a masseuse had called out, and we needed to be rescheduled. My experience on the phone was again, completely professional. Our couples massage was moved to Thursday, 10/15. We were also offered a free $10 enhancement for the inconvenience.On 10/15 I left work at 2pm ready to head to my 3pm massage appointment. I had 2 voicemails from Hand & Stone (at 1:40 and 1:49). Even though my appointment was moved on Sunday somehow their system did not move my wife to the new appointment; they did not even have my wifes information on this appointment (I find this amusing, as my wife set this up and I wasnt even supposed to know about it, yet all calls regarding rescheduling came to me and not to her). I called them back and after sorting the confusion about it being a couples massage was informed they were completely booked for today and Id need to reschedule.... apparently my rescheduling from Sunday wasnt good for anything? I was offered a free upgrade but turned it down and ultimately canceled altogether. Hand & Stone just doesnt seem to want our business. We were excited to try them out but will ultimately look for massage membership elsewhere.

Had a great experience! I had a facial and I decided to sign up as a member so I can go back next month for a massage. They used good quality products on my face and the woman tailored the facial to my needs and made good suggestions on skincare. She wasn’t pushy on buying their products but made recommendations. As a member I would save 10% so I might buy the products next time. The woman at the front desk was very nice, I think she was the manager. They were able to get me in same day for an appointment.

The front desk person was bubbly and informative. My massage therapist was amazing! 10 years of massages and she was the first one that actually got kinks out and made me super comfortable. The only reason I did not give 5 stars because I feel for a true spa experience it should be a tad dimmer in the waiting area or maybe a dim waiting area in back where it’s darker so clients have a few minutes to relax and come out of the daze of a massage and not rushed to the front. Otherwise excellent customer service.

I am came to the spa two weeks ago for my first professional facial. I was presently greeted by the polite front desk staff and was informed to wait for my esthetician. Promptly at my scheduled time I was greeted by a lovely woman named Fatima who escorted me back to the room. As soon as I was ready she asked me about my daily skincare routine and examined my skin under light which she informed me helped to decide which type of facial and which treatments would result in the best outcome. Each step of the treatment she informed me about how the treatment would be preformed, what sensation was to be expected and the benefits of each. I was thoroughly impressed by her knowledge of skincare, the products and her passion for her field. I would HIGHLY recommend booking an appointment with her! I am truly seeing a change in my skin based on her recommendations!

Lauren is the best!!! I love her my skin has been so dry and after coming here a month. I can definitely tell a difference. I wasn’t just given products to just buy or should I say sold. Lauren give me products that would actually help improve the quality of my skin. In addition to tips on how I need to stay hydrated internally. They worked and it was worth the price.

I absolutely love Hand & Stone in Columbia! This was my second facial here. Everyone was extremely friendly. I had Jennifer and she did such a great job! Jennifer recommended a few products to help my skin and since using the cleanser my skin has drastically changed for the better. I enjoyed my facial so much that I signed up for their membership. I plan on getting a facial from Jenn each month, shes the best!

During the COVID19 state mandated closure, the Columbia store was closed however they continued to charge $69.95 for a membership for services that were not available. When I requested a termination of the membership and a refund for past months during the statewide closure, they offered gift cards instead which I will not use as we still have rising COVID19 cases in the state of Maryland. Although the staff was helpful in explaining the corporate policy, they appeared more interested in making money instead of customer service during these trying times.

I came here for a Valentine’s Day massage that my boyfriend paid for, I booked online. It lists that they provide a prenatal massage not specifying you have to be out of the first trimester and that there has to be a certain massage therapist working in order for them to provide you service; so I arrived and they didn’t tell me till after I filled out my paperwork I wouldn’t be able to receive a massage that day. They were very nice people,although I felt as if this was an unprofessional experience and it was very disappointing. They offered me a coupon, I declined because I don’t think I will return here. Lesson: going into depth about things is extremely important.

We did not receive the full 1 hour even after we arrived 15 minutes early. Our appointment was at 8 we didn’t go back until 8:08 we finished before 9:00. We booked a Swedish and Hot stone massage but did not receive a hot stone massage when he asked why he did not receive a hot stone massage like we booked we were told by the massage therapist it was because “he didn’t see it.” He then left the room and did not return not saying anything else. When we went to the front desk and asked why we booked something and did not receive it they were extremely unhelpful. They said “Oh, he just didn’t see it” then the lady who said that just walked away I can only assume she was a manager. They disregarded us they didn’t even look up from the desk. They handed us a spa upgrade but you have to purchase another massage first to use it! I will not spend more money on a massage with this establishment because Customer service is very and you may not even get what you requested even though you book way in advance and confirm multiple times!! Very disappointed.

Approximately two (2) years ago, I had a monthly membership with the Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, Columbia, MD location. I cancelled my monthly membership for a few reasons; 1) High rotation of massage therapists 2) I did not use my package frequently enough to justify the cost of a monthly membership 3) Inconsistent staff professionalism (very young/inexperienced). My most recent visit (under new management) was not any better. The last straw was after my message (massage was just okay... therapist was very nice), I paid for my massage in cash, placed the money in the hand of the front desk representative, and with my hand extended to receive my change, the front desk representative quickly placed my change on the counter (not acknowledging my hand extended), then tried to sell me another monthly membership!!! I proceeded to explain to the front desk representative that when a customer places their payment in your hand, it is terrible etiquette to place the customers change (or anything else handed directly to you) on the counter, particularly when the customers hand is extended to receive/complete a transaction!! Also, during my payment/check-out process, I asked the front desk Rep. if she had a card for my message therapist (3 times), or if no card exist, could she write down the name of my therapist on a card... she forgot each time I asked, and I was not going to ask again. I AM SO DONE WITH HAND AND STONE... WOW... NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!

Connie, usually with Severna Park, was absolutely awesome! Its the best facial I ever had. The two young ladies at the front was very nice and provided prompt service. There was nothing wrong with the service I received today the environment was just different. Im used to everyone being soft spoken and very quiet as I always thought that was by design to set the tone for relaxation. Today, customers and staff were loud. Ill be back to see Connie again!

I was disappointed to find out in arrival they did not have prenatal tables. It was just a regular table and they used a pillow so you can lay side ways. Its not very comfortable when your 36 weeks pregnant. Part of the reason I booked the prenatal massage was for the cut out table, it takes pressure off of areas that could use relief. I feel like they should have been upfront when I booked the prenatal massage that they did not have prenatal tables. The actual massage was fine. When I went to cash out I was told there was a $10 up charge for prenatal massage. I told them no one explained that to me when I booked and we even discussed price when booking. No mention of it on their site either. They easily took the charge off without hesitation which was nice. Then I thought to myself, what is the up charge for anyways? They dont even have a prenatal table, there was no special service provided.. that left a bad taste in my mouth. Again, the actual massage was fine. I just wouldnt go back a second time. Definitely do not recommend for prenatal massage.

The therapists I have received a massage from at Hand and Stone have all been professional. Currently, I go twice a month and see 2 different therapists. Each has their own specialty and I like the variations that each uses. I am a power lifter and push my body to the limit every training session. I have gone to Hand and Stone for about 6 months now. I really enjoy the energy from the employees and the level of trust I have that I am in good hands. Since I have started, I have noticed a clearer face and so have to off my friends which in return got them to join. I feel confident that they know what they are talking about and always allow them to make the choices on what to do for the facials because they explain their reasoning and how to solve my skin issues. I have been using this spa for 2 years. I work in a physical environment and sometimes stressful mentally. Once a month I would like that one and one skin and body care. Stay are friendly and theyre willing to accommodate in various situations. The issue I have with this location is there high turn overs. Once you get to feel comfortable with an individual they no longer works there.

What a phenomenal experience! I was impressed before I even arrived for my appointment because the interaction I had on the phone while scheduling my appointment was so easy and pleasant.I hadnt entered the building prior to arriving for my appointment so I didnt know what to expect. It was beautiful! Both of the services I received began on time and were delivered by skilled, friendly professionals.I am not a fan of businesses who upsell or pressure you into purchasing a membership BUT when I was asked at check-out if I was interested in purchasing a membership, there was no way I was going to say no. Monthly awesomeness at a great price? Yes, please!I would definitely recommend Hand and Stone. And they stay open until 10:00 PM on Monday through Friday so theres no excuse not to treat yourself!

I went her for a facial and feel like I was duped into signing up for a membership, so I did. I made an appointment for my husband to use one of my packages so he could get a massage early on a Saturday morning. His appointment was confirmed via text message the day prior. He arrived there at 0845 on a Saturday morning for his 0900 massage only to be told that the masseuse had a family emergency and there were no other massages available. They did not call or text my husband, rather informed him when he arrived. They offered him a facial, which he was not interested in or offered to book him another appoint three days later.I called to cancel and was told the district manager Nova would be in the store that day between 10 and 1 and to call back to speak to Nova at that time When I called back during that time frame, I was told the district manager would not be in at all. I talked to a different receptionist and again made it clear that I was unhappy with the no notice cancellation for my husband’s appointment and again tried to cancel. I was informed I had to fill out a form and return it; the receptionist said she would send me a form, but I did not receive it.I am extremely disappointed and irritated that 1) my husband did not get the massage he was looking forward to and wasted time going there because they couldn’t bother to notify him even 20 min before his appointment, and 2) that I have clearly articulated twice now that I would like to immediately cancel my membership only to be lied to TWICE (about being able to talk to the district manager and being told I would be emailed the cancellation paperwork).I can not recommend this place as the service and appointment management is handled in an unprofessional manner. I have yet to resolve this issue!!

Jeff was awesome at customer service, and Jennifers facial was total luxury (except for the extraction of pesky blackheads, but I couldnt have done that myself). Naturally pricey products were recommended, but they were totally cool when I said I couldnt afford them. I did sign up for a membership and got one pricey product at a more affordable cost. We all deserve a little luxury once in a while.

I went in for my appointment. The receptionist was rude and seemed like she didn’t want to be there or bothered with customers. I was scheduled for an hour massage and I added on a 15 minute scalp massage. By the time they took me back and I was ready it was 4:10. My masseuse was very friendly and professional but honestly it didn’t feel good and he was a little all over the place. I was under the impression the scalp massage was an extra 15 minutes on top of my massage time since it was an extra charge. He finished with everything at 4:48. Really? And not to mention the scalp massage was terrible. He excused himself and said he would wait for me outside. Never saw him again. Next time I’ll just go to the mall. I get better service and a better massage.

I got a rejuvenating facial from Fatima and couldn’t be more pleased. She was accommodating, sweet, and extremely knowledgeable. I asked a bunch of questions along the way and she answered every single one and gave me super helpful and practical tips on how to better my facial care routine. Fatima explained everything she was doing in detail before beginning each step which allowed me to ask any questions I had before she started. She even broke down each product (and their ingredients too - which is really important to me!). The upgrades offered are amazing and customized to exactly what you’re in need of - I got microdermabrasion, nuface, and LED with eye and lip treatment! Fatima explained everything to me and didn’t make me feel pressured when making a decision to upgrade or not.Ask for Fatima when scheduling a facial and you won’t regret it!

This location is very professional and comforting. It was my first ever massage and the person assigned to me was comforting, knowledgeable, and massaged away my stress. The table you lay on was heated, the music was soothing, the smells were soft and underwhelming. It was perfection and after an hour I felt I was floating.Bit pricy but you get what you pay for.

I had Gina as my masseuse and she was the absolute best! I recently had surgery on my elbow and she did everything to make sure I was comfortable. My worst tension areas are my neck and shoulders and I always ask for deep pressure. She did not disappoint! She delivered one of the best massages Ive ever had. Everyone was friendly, conscientious, and professional. My first facial experience was really great overall -- for any other first timers, the steam treatment may be overwhelming and pores being cleaned out can be unexpectedly unpleasant, but otherwise it was a luxurious treatment that felt like a really lovely way to pamper myself and take care of my skin. I learned a lot about what my skin is sensitive to and what my routine should look like for my skin type. Just wish I could have written it all down.

Massage was nice...real cookie cutter..They tried to quote the couples massage @$119 but it showed $109 online..I had a GC and I was told there would be a balance of $10 but once I got there I was told it was $50. Id never gotten a facial before and Fatima made it a great experience! She was very professional and extremely kind and sweet. She sat down and asked about my skin care goals and I could tell that she geniuenly cared and wanted to help. Staff has always been kind, respectful, skilled and helpful to me. I have appreciated the service and the monthly massage membership. My only frustration in the past few years is that a few times Ive had trouble with either online booking (website wasnt cooperating) or getting email to them (even through their contact-us email address), but its been awhile since either has happened, and they may have upgraded their system since then.

You must come to this spa!!! I promise you will not regret your experience. This spa is under new management and they are uber attentive to all of my needs. I have a tendency to be a bit absent minded. Never fear the staff are always accommodating to my requests; even calling me before I notice my own scheduling conflict. I am a member here and I personally walked in there to schedule an appointment. They confirmed for Thursday at 7PM and when i went there they did not have anyone available for me. Seems like the front desk people just wany you to enroll in membership. After that they really dnt care about what they are committing to. Not happy with the experience at all.
