I was here for routine yearly eye exam. I feel that this doctors office finds a reason to run expensive unnecessary test on your eyes to run up the bill!!! I was told I had an issue with my optic nerve that I needed two specialized test run to rule out glaucoma, then would have to return for a third visit to get the test results read by the doctor. I had all this done because I was afraid something might be wrong with my eyes! But when I returned for the results the doctor told me he never said I had an optic nerve problem well why the heck did I just pay all this money and have all these unnecessary test run then in the first place!!! And why the third visit to get results a phone call would have been fine but they had to bring me back in for a third office visit and exam to get more money out of me!! I feel so sorry for all the elderly people who I saw in this office that are probably having their pocketbooks drained and not even realizing it so sad!! Not to mention that the wait so terribly long each time I visited!!!! I don’t recommend this place go somewhere u can trust them!!

I visited Castillejos recently to get an eye exam and glasses. I was impressed with their safety protocols that they use to keep everybody as safe as possible. When I arrived there was this young lady wearing a mask waiting for you at the front door. She takes your temperature, gives you hand sanitizer and asks you some health questions. After passing this step she directs me to this other lady (wearing a mask too) at another desk with a glass shield between us to confirm my appointment. She then directs me to their waiting room outside on the side of the building. After waiting just a short time somebody calls me to do an initial eye exam using this machine that was wiped cleaned in front of me. Then I finally meet the doctor that tests my eyes to determine what glasses I need. Very professional. In the last phase of the process I talk to this other person wearing a mask that directs me to select a frame, asks me some questions, gives me the total amount owed and processes my payment. In this day and age and me being a person with a compromised immune system I appreciate what they did to keep me safe and healthy. Highly recommended

As soon as you walk in, the receptionist welcomes you. All the personnel is wonderful, especially Dr. David Castillejos. He has welcomes you with a smile as if he knows you and treats you as if you are part of the family. I would highly recommend him because as a Physcian, he has been blessed with gentle hands, and healing hands.

Doctors, nurses were all very nice and professional. Our exoexperie overall was great! The only thing I would of liked is better communication before surgery. Instructions and time was not clear which made it a little stressful. Dad was very happy with the surgeon and his hospital experience.

As an optometrist this is an excellent place to refer patients to. They take all kinds of insurances and have some of the most affordable rates. I have met the doctors and they are all really nice.

I found all of the staff at CEI to be friendly, efficient, and professional. It takes a little time to get through all of the testing, but everything gets done in one visit. My actual cataract surgery went very smoothly and took little time. Im very pleased with Dr. David Castillejos.

Very long wait, 4 hrs + Apparently they must assume they are they only ones that have things to do.They should make their appointments properly spaced out. Rude employees, cant answer a simple question without giving you the look. Go somewhere else, there is a load of Drs in Chula Vista.

I called several times weeks before going and left messages. They never called me back. Then I walked in. The lady up front who called herself Claudia was very unprofessional. She seemed to be more occupied with personal items in her purse than with properly greeting me. She furthermore went on to ask me if I would consider going to Tijuana, Mexico for my consultation/ procedure. When I declined to go to Tijuana she then told me that my VSP insurance did not cover anyhow although, I in fact had a print out of coverages from my insurance company.

I want to start by saying that the Optometry front desk ladies were very nice and polite as well as the doctor that did my exam and helped me with my contact lenses. I dont remember the name of the Dr. but she was a very nice, helpful, and sweet young woman. Now to the bad part. I have a VSP Premier plan and was told my copay for my Well Vision exam was $20, and for the contact lense exam was $150 and there was a 15% discount I qualified. After the discounts and stuff, my VSP was supposed to cover the rest. The dr recommended a pair of contacts for me to try for 2 weeks then come back for a follow up. All of that went well until it was time to see Valentino Cervantes to pay for the services. After explaining my options and how I could use my services, they ended up charging me $80 which I paid right away. I thought it was a bit odd I had to pay $80 since my sister and 2 coworkers got the exact same exams and left with toric contacts and they only had to pay $20. I thought maybe the plans and copays had changed and decided to wait and call VSP to clarify then get an adjustment if there had been a mistake. I leave the eye institute and when I told my sister about the copay, she stated I was only supposed to pay $20 and they were supposed to bill VSP for the other $60 I was charged. My appointment was May 17th so I had to wait until Monday to call VSP. To my surprise, when I called VSP, they confirmed I was not supposed to pay the $60 and THEY ACTUALLY GOT BILLED. VSP called Castillejos Institute because apparently, this is not the only time they have done this, and after talking to Christian from the billing departmen, he confirmed it was a mistake but since I had already paid at the office, VSP didnt have to pay the bill. Now, after wearing my contacts the entire weekend, I decided contacts are not for me and wont be getting a 12 month supply. VSP told me to call and ask them to reimburse me and bill them instead to which after getting transferred a couple times and ending up taking to Valentino Cervantes, he said pretty much no. He kept going over and over my coverage and costs and told me straight up VSP couldnt cover it. I even explained that Christian had told VSP they didnt have to pay the bill as I had already paid and they were going to put the $60 I was charged back to my $150 allowance to get my contacts due to the confusion. Valentino also stated he did not know what Christian was talking about and that they did not make a mistake and it was me that was not understanding my coverage. I was so frustrated at that point, I asked to speak to someone else and he stated theres no one above him and hes the Operations Manager in a very condescending tone. We ended our conversation and I decide to call again. I talked to Claudia from the front desk and explained the situation. I asked if I could talk to someone else other than Valentino and she said she could transfer me to Christian or one of the girls from the billing department. I dont even know if I was even transferred as right after she said she was going to transfer me and I said thank you, they hung up on me. I called VSP back and explained the whole ordeal and the lady I talked to said not to worry and that she would take care of it. She said she was going to call them and just ask them to reimburse me and bill them instead. They had us on hold for a little under 43 minutes until the lady from VSP told me she could not stay on the phone any longer which I totally get. Castillejos Eye Institute has pretty good reviews overall, but funny enough I found 2 with the same complain about the $60 extra charge. One of those people did get reimbursed though. I cant believe the Operations Manager can be so rude, condescending, and not care about patients at all. I dont even know what to do at this point. I pretty much poured $80 down the drain.
