My dad was having severe stomach pain. They dont do triage right away to classify which patients should go back 1st. He waited over an hour in pain and finally I took him to Wesley in Derby and they took him back right away and he had to be transferred to another hospital for emergency surgery. Another lady in the waiting room was throwing up and said she felt like she was going to faint and the guy at desk just told her to take deep breaths and didnt even check in her. Ridiculous.

But watch people come in tell them there problems and they get seen less then an hour and there problem wasnt even life threating.

I spent 48 hours in this hospital. 24 of them waiting in the ER for a room (the ER staff were pleasant other than the man who woke me up multiple times in the night with his loud talking to other staff while he was griping about gun control laws) and the other 24 being warehoused where I spent a total of 15 minutes with a doctor who argued my long standing and well documented diagnoses with me. They refused to give me my full dose of prescribed medication that night so was only able to sleep 3 hours the second night. Now they billed $10,000 for those 48 days. Insurance paid most but they are trying to collect $2800 from me. I have filled out all the charity paperwork because I am unemployed and separated from my spouse. They won’t take my paperwork and are still sending threatening letters and making threatening phone calls. Some “Christian” organization huh? My time there traumatized me so much that I would never go back. Now they’re traumatizing me even more. Literally go anywhere else besides any Via Christi facility!!

The ER is poorly run. At first I thought it wouldnt be so bad because the young lady in the very front area was pleasant. Unfortunately it pretty much went downhill after that. False sympathy and just utter indifference was on the front lines. Sat for three hours waiting and was ignored the whole time. Plus why should I wear a mask if the workers can have their masks under their chin and off. All in all; a very unpleasant experience

This is my first google review. I’m taking the time to write this due to how horrible this experience was. My father had surgery here. It has been the worst service from the nursing staff ever. My mom recently(few weeks ago) was in another hospital from a car wreck and it’s literally night and day difference. The staff barely came in to check on him, didn’t check his fluids, when they said they would be right back it was anywhere from 30 min to an hour later with whatever he requested, was snippy and rude, I could go on and on. Due to COVID no one can stay the night. The next morning my dads fluids, bags, bandages hadn’t been touched all night. No one told him how to order food so he just didn’t eat, they never filled up his water, his gown and sheets had spilt blood on them and weren’t changed. I could go on and on. We begged to stay the following night because we knew he wouldn’t get taken care of. They denied us and the next day it was the same thing. We complained and asked the charge nurse and it did nothing. I will never come to this hospital again nor EVER schedule anything here. Most of the time nurses are amazing and so helpful and that was just not the case. Even his good ones weren’t ones I would brag about. I know everything is swamped and busy right now but that just wasn’t the case. They were just not there, or checking in and sitting around doing nothing when we would come out. I will always choose another hospital than this one if it’s up to me.

I really want to leave my review here to thank all the staff who took such great care of me before, during and after my baby´s birth. Unfortunately I did not chose via christi for my first son delivery and had a very bad experience.I was all by myself and they went out of their way to meet all my needs and concerns. All staff had very good manners and was nice. A special thank you to all nurses at delivery - for coaching, helping me and being more than kind; to the young anesthesiologist who stood by my side the entire time answering all my questions and alleviating all my symptoms and to the nurses who cared for me Saturday day and Saturday night. The receptionists at labor and delivery and the security guard were also very kind. Thank you for such a good experience.

Our caregivers were very nice and helpful. I felt like they gave undivided attention to each patient. The hospital is going through some major renovations these days, so you could easily get lost or take time to find the place you’re looking for. One even laughed at her!! They wanted to admit her in that awful place but thank goodness my family was able to force their way out. I do want to acknowledge four people (one gentleman at reception, one lady who first greeted me, and two hospital officers) they were super kind and understanding of her condition. The rest of them need retraining or rehiring. No human being should be treated like this! Hospitals are to help and heal people not make them feel 100x worse.

After they were found I moved on to CT. On arrival there I had to wait while they looked for stickers. The clerk went somewhere and had a page of stickers made. I remained sick for the next 2 weeks, despite the fact they left me with no instructions or diagnosis. Two months later they sent me another bill for $252 after charging my insurance $663. The bill doesnt explain billing what services they provided to justify the extra charges. Customer service is in some other state and put me on hold for 8 minutes of a 13 minute call, only to provide me with no new information.I will of course pay it, because they will send me to collections if I dont, but dont use this hospital. They are crooks.Update: They did reply to this post, and asked me to call them. The number they gave me took me back to a call center out of state. From there I had to be transferred (actually dropped into an automated system). The lady who answered didnt have anything to add other than I owe them money, and I will need to look at an itemized statement if I want an explanation of services. She then proceeded to present me with incorrect arithmetic. So in response to my complaint, they asked for the right to waste more of my time. Dont use this hospital.

Paid $44k for an imaging surgery here. Apparently asking them to put it on a disk in under 6 hours is such an outlandish idea that I should be embarrassed of myself.

My surgery and short stay in Via Christi St. Joseph was a memorable experience. Everyone I met was professional, positive minded, confident and encouraging, My day shift recovery nurse was a real blessing. I think she is spiritually a healing person. This means her core intent and basic impulse as a person is lovingly to heal, assist healing, promote healing, without being invasive. I could feel her intent through her hand on my back as she helped me to take my first steps out of bed. As a registered nurse she was firm without being mean like ole miss fussbudget. I wanted to take her home with me. The food they sent up to me has ruined me for the real world. My first meal out of the hospital was bland and not satisfying compared to the food I received at the hospital. My subjective opinion of the food is that it is almost at the Chilis restaurant level. Yep, I mean that. Next, When I pushed the Call button a nurse or helper responded quickly. Everyone who entered the room had a good attitude, including the cleaning people who were very nice. I did have a less comfortable feeling coming from the male nurse on the night shift but I figured this was because we males are not as nurturing as females, especially females who are mothers, and because as a child I responded more quickly to my mother than I did my father. Of visiting and visitors: when I was taking my first few faltering steps down the hall I discovered a large family in the day room. A man napped on the floor next to a baby sleeping on a blanket while women sat in chairs. When I asked about visiting hours I was told there were no rigid, fixed hours. In other words, a visitor could stay all night if he or she wanted. My summary is this: if you need to go to the hospital, then Via Christi St. Joseph is certainly a good place to go. We pay a lot for hospital services through Medicare, other insurances, and cash copays. Via Christi St. Joseph makes the cost seem not so bad. And in passing, when I was at Via Christi St. Francis emergency room a few months ago, they too were excellent.

I really like the cafeteria there. It’s open late at night. Go on Tuesday or Thursday to enjoy some reasonably priced Mexican style food.

The rudest staff I have ever met. They forgot us in the waiting room no less than three times while my family was in critical condition. Never got straight answers from any nurse, never saw an actual doctor. The staff even outright lied to us or maybe they are just that incompetent.ADDITONALLY, the nurses and psychiatrists had the audacity to tell my family we werent her family despite telling then numerous times how we were related. They often ignored our requests and even left her flowers in a different room when she was transferred.

A man was yelling for help and I was around so I tried to ask the first person to help who happened to be an ER doctor. I told him and he looked at me like I was out of my mind and said why are you telling me. Go tell a nurse not me to humiliate me in front of his peers even though he was not busy and could have check on this man. I find the ER doctor very unprofessional and rude.

My experience at this hospital was horrendous. I was there to deliver a baby with the most amazing OBGYN but every other staff member made my experience there a joke. My epidural was replaced twice and the nurse anthesis acted like I was a liar every time I told her I could feel everything. I spoke to several women who also delivered at St. Joe and their epidurals also didn’t work the way they should have. I might as well have skipped my epidural and at least been able to get up and walk around but instead I was stuck in bed in unbearable pain. Then when I finally delivered my son I had a nurse come in and practically shove my breast in my sons face when I was still worked up from delivery and in a lot of pain. We finally made it back to the postpartum care and I had nurses who were “too busy” and couldn’t answer my call light in a timely manner. The kitchen took 3 hours to bring me the smallest breakfast, and the pediatrician was rude and very demanding. I hope I never have to return to this hospital. My biggest hope is that my OBGYN is delivering somewhere else by the time I’m ready for another baby.

I never had a chance to express my gratitude to your staff at this facility. I came to you right after my seventeenth birthday in 2002 when I was 26 weeks pregnant and in labor. Though there was nothing that could be done to stop the labor and delivery due to the large hematoma that had formed in the umbilical cord, your nurses, chaplains, and physicians did everything they could to make me feel as comfortable as possible. At that time I was a high school drop out working fast food with no hope for my future. Your prayers for healing helped me find my true calling as a nurse. A gift I have not taken lightly. At this time I am a psych nurse and still working toward my BSN with four healthy babies. In memory of the little girl I have lost I do this job with pride just as all of you did for me. With all the love, admiration, and respect in the world, thank you for the difference you made to me. Nothing you guys do is in vain. I just wish that back then I was able to articulate my gratitude to you a little better.

Went to the hospital this morning with my son and i couldnt carry him in even though he was doubled over in pain. We go into the er and i put him in a wheelchair and the guy at the front desk came up to me and said we have limited wheelchairs your son has to walk. I said cant you see hes sick and cant walk. And this jerk said to me He walked in here didnt he. He doesnt need it these are for people who really cant walk. I was so mad I took my son to Wesley and i asked if we could use the kid wheelchair and they said you dont have to ask they are for kids so je can use it. Love wesley hospital and they are more caring and nice. Dont go to ST. Joe if you need care

Room 554 5th floor1) Poor Communication2) Dad laid in bedding that was filthy with his bodily fluids and no garment change for 2 days3) Nasal Gastric Tube stayed plugged for hours causing my dads health to decline throughout the day.4) Was told that toilet paper was a premium while he had diarrhea.5) Linda lied about my dad not wanting a procedure6) House Nurse kept rolling her eyes at me and my parents and kept talking over us and defending her employees. Also said in a very loud obnoxious voice in the hallway...Oh yeah..THOSE people are really upset.7) The only bright spot was the Doctor agreeing that a change in hospital situations was a good idea.*If my dad would have stayed in this hospital another day his health at that current rate of care would have declined even more. The care at this hospital is NEGLIGENT at best.*This hospital is a horrible example of how patients especially seniors are treated. Im glad that I was able to advocate for them to get them out of here and onward to a better situation.*Im going to make sure that my 20,000 plus local social media connections and word of mouth NEVER use this hospital.

I went to the ER at this hospital for acute pain in my ovaries during pregnancy. I was very sick, and very scared of an ectopic pregnancy. When I first got there I pushed the button once so the nurse or aide could help me tie my gown. About 2 hours later I pressed the button once again to see if they could bring me something for nausea. Every time I would press the button they kept turning it off. About an hour later I finally got someones attentions by going to the door and waving down help. When the nurse finally came in to see me I told her that I could not contact her, and the call button was not working. She proceeded to tell me oh honey, they kept switching it off because I had nothing to tell you, your test results arent back yet. I was very upset to the point of tears. It was not a good er experience.

My Mom is in the hospital we have had phone problem, problems with the nurse answering the call light we would turn it on and wait and we would watch the light and they would turn it off this happened 3 times in over a 30 min time period had to go out to the desk and complain then they ran to take care of her. Next she was to be moved to a rehab we was told a certain day we was here waiting no one picked her up... finally a case manager came in she did not know anything about it so here we are the next day waiting again told us she would be picked up at 11 am... no one showed up 12:30 we started calling cause she had not had lunch. 30 min later they called told us the the doctor wanted to review the charts so she would be picked up at 2 pm. They should of let us know what was going on. This is why (her daughter) I myself won’t go here or any Via Christi hospital . I hope you enjoyed all the money you have made off of her insurance and her and the money she spent on your God awful food and what me and my family spent on eating here so we could stay with her.!

I took my 5 yr old son here explaining that he had severe leg pain and would not walk at all. They took us back to the er room and gave him Tylenol. I explained something was really wrong but they did no X-rays or blood work and sent us on our way with growing pains paperwork. 5 days later I called his pediatrician to have some blood work done and he was then diagnosed with leukemia cancer. Had the er done something he could have been diagnosed sooner. If a mother is telling you something is really wrong with her son please do some tests St. Joseph. He later died this August the 26th surviving only 13 days after diagnosis.
