Been with Mercy Physician Group for 5 years. Best group I have had in my 76 years. Primary Doctor is very responsive and does a great job of listening. The 3 Specialists I see on regular basis do a great job. Glad we chose Mercy Physician Group when we moved to San Diego.

So, Ive been down with a severe upper respiratory infection, fever and cough... my referral unit, mercy physicians medical group, REFUSED to pay for a COVID 19 test... let them know what you think about this!!!!This is not the first time with them I have had this problem. I had tried to get referrals which were listed in my HMO guidebook, only to have them refused. When I call them they say to call my carrier, when I call them they say to cal MPMG. Im switching insurance Aug 1, thank gods, NEVER NEVER NEVER Deal with these people they arbitrarily reefuse your claim and then accept no responsibility for it. STAY AWAY IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!!!!

Filed a complaint against Deluxe Medical Supply company because of their poor customer service. Tony was a wonderful help and so pleasant and calm to deal with at MPMG. She did all she could and made good referrals if I wanted to take this further. Watch out for Deluxe Medical Supply!

Extremely aggravating, got a referral to a doctor that couldn’t prescribe the right medication. I had to pay that doc to re refer me. Asked PCP why I had to do that and she said because she didn’t know where to send me. Ignorance is not an excuse!

I was supposed to get my referal for PT withing 7-10 days which is already ridiculous for someone who is in pain. 3 weeks later I still dont have it. Its just sitting over at MPMG waiting for approval.

If there was a 0 stars I would have chosen it.I am a 65 year old VN vet, disabled and in a significant amount of pain.I receive my Welcome to MPMG book in June. 6 months after starting. My first PCP was rude and disrespectful from my first visit.I dont take well to that. When I finally confronted him on the 3rd visit, he told me to find another doc.My 2nd PCP I was assigned, I never met, just a PA, but when I used their very rare patient portal to message the doc, I got no reply, but I did get a certified letter saying find another doc. (eff you and go away)All I asked for was that my Primary be in charge of my medications and not be sent to the awful pain clinics again that are quite likely committing Medicare Fraud and who treat people horribly. They strip from us what little dignity we old people have left.My 3rd assigned PCP on the initial visit, when I confronted her in a lie, she tossed me from their offices. She tried to tell me that the docs in her office DID NOT have the special training that the Pain Clinic docs have and it was POLICY to send all patients who are unfortunate enough to need pain medication. Money over compassion. Not exactly what I look for in a PCP.(The pain clinic, I never met any doctors, just a PA who asked a couple of questions, threatens you with cutting off your medication, and wrote an Rx after you peed in the bottle.)You are just a piece of meat with a Medicare number on your ear tag. That is sooooommmmmmmeeee special training! And she took umbrage with me?I told her that apparently patient care was a tertiary concern. Then she turned rainbow-faced and went on a non-stop rant without letting a word get in from me and left the room. Hmm. Very Professional.I must have hit a nerve. How do you graduate medical school with no training in pain and opiates? She took me for an idiot, and was confronted. It is a financial decision, not patient care. It reduces their potential liability and reduces their insurance rates. When they tell you otherwise, they are lying to you. You do come in 3rd place if there. They are ordering these very expensive, unnecessary medical test by requiring all patients give a urine sample every month in order to get their Rx for pain medication. And the kicker that makes you wonder if they are working for you(the Patient) or the Pharmaceutical company making opioids or the testing lab, is if they find you using Marijuana to allow you to get by on fewer narcotics, they threaten to take away your meds. So, for pain you must take more narcotics!!!!! Does that sound right to anyone? The waiting rooms are usually full of us elderly waiting until we can pee.I dont use tobacco or alcohol, and I take offense at being treated like a criminal because I want to minimize the number of narcotics I take by using a product that is legal in my state.I finally called Medicare, and luckily there is an exception for the terrible care I never got. If there is a 5-star group available you can switch mid-year.Locally it is Kaiser, so I switched from the bad health insurance company, Alignment, who chose such a lousy health group and those you have never heard of.The salesperson who sold me on this awful plan originally left me thinking I was going to be getting Scripps docs. Not the case. Just Scripps hospitals.MPMG must be the least wired group in SD as every doc has a different antiquated computer systems lacking something as simple as secure email.Yes, that means, use the phone to call, and hope for a call back some time. (or a certified letter telling you to eff off) They are stuck in 1999.If you are stuck in MPMG and are on Medicare, you can get away, even mid-year just call Medicare and describe your horror story.

I have had the experience of having 2 primary care physicians from MPMG and I can say the experience is night and day. My original doctor took time and care to explain medications and conditions to me and the doctor who inherited my account when my original GP retired was always rushed, kept insisting that I take hypertension medication without considering alternative approaches and wanted to put me on anxiety medication without also considering behavioral therapy. VERY unhappy with my experience so far. I hope my 3rd doctor within this group will be more like my first doctor. The constant presence of pharmaceutical reps in the lobby bringing goodies was also concerning.
