This Emergency clinic is by far the best place to take your pet, in a real emergency. We were unlucky and our pug swallowed a rock. It got lodged in his small intestines and would not pass. We were forced to take him to this clinic due to the fact it could’ve ruptured and he could’ve died. Not knowing what was actually wrong with him this clinic was so thorough in explaining everything that needed to be done in a timely manner and the cost of everything upfront. They truly saved our dogs life but more importantly treated our family, with a lot of concern, care and understanding❤️. I feel confident if there’s ever an emergency in the future with any of our pets this clinic will have all of our best interest in mind. Thank you from the bottom of our heart for saving Cruzer he is such an important silly family member of ours. I highly recommend them to anybody.

Super thankful to the cardiology department and Robin. My dog got diagnosed with CHF by my vet and she was not doing well at all. I called several hospitals to get her to a cardiologist, they all said 6 months to get an appointment but when I called Robin she cared to ask what was going on with my dog, being that she was not doing well at all she put her on a waiting list for a cancellation, she called me a few days later and I was able to take her in. Having the right care has helped me enjoy my baby for so much longer than I would have if she did not get the prompt care for this extra time with her I will forever be grateful to VCA Cardiology, Robin and their great staff.

I have nothing bad to say. They took care of my dog & communicated with me properly. The doctor did not try to push any pointless tests/overnight stays. This is the most important red flag Im careful of. When I spoke to the doctor on the phone, she was nothing but kind and took her time to explain everything. Most importantly, she listened to all of my concerns and did not dismiss anything. The long wait times are understandable as this is an emergency hospital. Of course if your pet needs immediate help, you will not have to wait as long. The prices were also very fair. Thank you to all the staff for your hard work .

Absolutely my worst experience at a pet hospital ever. Doctor sounded barely capable of explaining any issues my dog was having and repeating the same thing over and over. Told me to come get my dog, then said we want to keep her overnight. Said my dog didn’t have the issue my GP said which is the reason I came here in the first place. 1057.00 later and I still have no idea what’s going on with dog.

I gave VCA a call because my pet was having an emergency and they told me to send them photos so they can determine if he needed to be seen right away. So of course I sent the photos and the person on the phone told me they’ll get back to me in 5-10 minutes. I received no follow up, I called again and someone told me it would take a significant amount of time for those photos to be reviewed, even though the previous person had said 5-10 minutes. That’s fine but what’s truly prompting this review is the fact they never called me back or followed up with me on the photos I sent. Basically - it would take them several hours for them to even determine if your pet is critical or not; that is, if they don’t forget about you. Take your pets somewhere else.

Took our good boy to VCA upon urgent recommendation from our family vet at about 6pm on a Wednesday. After arriving in the parking lot and calling in the front desk we were told our wait would be about 3 hours to be seen, however upon a short in person review of our dog the VCA staff deemed him a priority patient and took him in immediately.Shortly after he was brought in Dr. White called to brief us on a preliminary treatment plan and diagnostics that would be necessary right away. Upon giving us the plan a staff member came out and asked for our permission in person to begin treatment and blood work while stating the estimated costs for these procedures. We gave them permission and they proceeded with treatment right away.About an hour later after further research Doctor White called back to give us a more in depth explanation of what was happening with our dog. She was informative, kind, and willing to answer all questions we had at the time. Furthermore she was very balanced in offering treatment plans while also maintaining the morbid reality that our dog was terminally ill and that the said treatment plans, even if effective, would not guarantee a full recovery of our advanced age dog. Upon agreeing to the treatment plan we felt comfortable with Dr. White respected our decision and didnt pressure us in any way. We went over the day to day itemization including all the procedures then we provided the agreed upon upfront deposit. The first day went as planned. Dog was transferred to Internal Medicine to the new Doctor (Dr. Bonaparte?) who called and provided updates in the morning and even pictures of our Dog at a couple different early stages of the procedure. Very sadly during day 2 of the 3 day treatment our dog passed away (funds for unused services were promptly refunded). We were told he went peacefully surrounded by the team that was caring for him.During the mourning process the staff offered us a room and time to be alone with our pet so we could mourn our lost friend. They were as compassionate as a grieving family could hope for. Both Dr. White & Dr. B even called the morning after to offer their condolences.Overall our family felt cared for by the staff at VCA with their knowledge of the practice, the communication with their finances and medical procedures, and the emotional compassion following a heavy loss.Would highly recommend VCA Emergency Animal Hospital.

I have brought several pets to this hospital. They have always been caring, attentive, and communicative. Once when my dog needed immediate care towards the end of her life, they were even transparent enough to recommend another hospital that could better suit her needs. I will continue to take my pets to this hospital, along with visiting our regular vet. Yes, vet hospitals are expensive. Taking care of animals is expensive. They have always been transparent about their prices and answered all of my questions about charges. We always hope we won’t have to take our babies to an emergency hospital, but when we do I’m glad we have them in our corner.

Lets be clear, we can all see this location states it is a 24 hour emergency animal hospital. I unfortunately did not get that opportunity last night nor any type of service when I pulled up at 12:20am. I get it its late, its a animal, your tired but at the end of the day ITS YOUR JOB. Brittney, if thats her alleged name was the vet assistant/vet tech that I spoke with when I arrived. When you pull up to the clinic they have you call a number to check in. I explained to Brittney the symptoms I noticed my cat has been experiencing (vomiting, white urine, not eating, frequent urination for the past week) Brittney had the audacity to refer me back to my cats primary provider and to call them in the morning to schedule an appointment. Over the phone she seemed agitated and repeated informed me that its late. YES ITS LATE BUT THIS WAS A EMERGENCY CONCERN OF MINE AND SHE REFUSED TO EVEN LOOK AT MY CAT. I was fortunate to have taken my cat to the Pet Emergency Specialty Center down in Chula Vista area and they were ABLE TO TAKE HIM IN BECAUSE HE HAD A URETHRAL OBSTRUCTION DUE TO URINARY STONES/CRYSTALS. The team at the new vet clinic I went too provided exceptional service and even went into details the next steps and plan of care and actions that needed to happen next. VCA Hospital, I heavily question the integrity and service you train your team to provide at a 24 hour EMERGENCY HOSPITAL. THE FACT THAT BRITTNEY INFORMED ME SEVERAL TIMES ITS LATE WHAT AM I DOING HERE AT THIS HOUR, SEE MY PRIMARY TOMORROW is UNACCEPTABLE. In the hospitality field our mission is to ensure our patients(humans and animals) get the best treatment possible to reverse any life threatening issues. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION GO ELSE WHERE. If you get brittney to help you good luck. Again check the call logs VCA Hospital it was at 12:20 when I pulled up and called and spoke with brittney she was not pleasant, didnt seem like she wanted to do her job and demonstrated INCOMPETENCE. The quality and service I know VCA Animal Hospital to provide was compromised and I WOULD RATE THIS PLACE ZERO STARS FOR THE SERVICE THEY PROVIDED LAST NIGHT. Luckily my little one is now IN A CLINIC WHERE THEY WILL PROVIDE EXCEPTIONAL SERIVE TO A CAT IN NEED. VERY VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED

I typically do not leave reviews but I could not believe the terrible experience I had with this ER and think it is important that pet owners are aware of what happened and make the right decision on whether or not to bring their pet to this location. 3 nights and thousands of dollars later, I picked up my dog from this hospital and was presented with my dog wrapped up in a pee pad, covered in her own stool. The staff member that brought her out to me acknowledged that my dog had an accident but for whatever the reason decided not to clean her up before discharging her. This hospital does not provide proper follow up. When you’re paying that much money for your pet to stay overnight, a few phone calls throughout the day would’ve been appreciated and help put my mind at ease knowing that someone is caring for my pet. When I got home, I noticed that my dog was not putting any pressure on one of her legs. The leg was noticeably swollen so I called back into the ER to talk with the vet. The response I got did not settle well considering my experience with this place the past 3 days. I was informed that they noticed she was lying on one side more than the other and to proceed with getting my dog to sleep on the opposite side and to help bring back the blood circulation to the leg that was giving my dog trouble and discomfort. I took my dog in due to vomiting and diarrhea. NOT for an injury. I have expressed that this was the first time in the 12 years I’ve had my dog that I had to bring her into an ER and this was the awful experience I had.

Recently my dog was acting very lethargic and not eating. This has happened a few times in the last couple of months so we decided to bring her in since her not eating is a sign that something is wrong (shes VERY food motivated). We called over 10 local vets downtown and all of them were booked for 3 weeks!! So I had no choice but to bring her in to VCA emergency. From the moment I called to see if they could fit her in that morning to the moment I picked her up the staff here were nothing short of amazing. They were very communicative in everything they were planning to do with my dog. For 20 minutes I spoke to my dogs emergency vet on the phone, her asking so many questions about my dog so she could get a full understanding of her. She very thoroughly went through everything she thought could be wrong, and went through the treatment plan with me. They gave me a quote between $945-$1000 (this is JUST for my dog do not think this will happen to your dog) and the actual price was $100+ LESS than the quote! To people complaining about the price, know that this is an emergency vet and they need more staff on hand, just like an emergency room at a hospital vs a traditional family doctor. My suggestion to all pet owners: GET PET INSURANCE!!! We have pet insurance and our plan will cover 90% of this bill. The quality of my dogs care is the #1 priority, and they definitely surpassed my expectations.

To put it simply, I am very satisfied with the care my dog received here. Also I do recognize that my situation may be different than others as I have pet insurance. With this in mind, my partner and I called ahead and explained the situation (he ate an unknown amount of Excedrin) and VCA gave us the ok to bring him in. We did have to pay partial upfront which amounted to about 1700 before they could provide him with care. This is not unique to VCA as it is standard for many pet ERs to want payment upfront. I noticed that many bad reviews had cited this as an issue and I sympathize, your pet friend is hurt and bills are the last thing one wants to think about. This is why pet insurance is important because I did get about 700 of that back. Also PLEASE get pet insurance, your wallet and your pet will thank you.Concerning his care:What made VCA stand out in my opinion was the amount of care and attention my dog son received. The doctors updated me on his condition constantly, and the patient advocate also updated us on his well being with pictures. Since I never needed to use my pet insurance before they were very helpful in navigating that. Obviously my dog was not happy to be there but they did their best in making sure he was comfortable. Even after he was released they answered all my questions regarding his aftercare and I really appreciated that. All in all, if lightening strikes twice (oh god I hope it does not), I would choose them all over again because I truly believed they had my dogs best interest at heart. Would recommend 100%

I don’t even know where to begin with this place. We brought our dog in for having severe swelling on her face which we thought was an allergic reaction but since we didn’t know we figured we’d take her in to be sure. We drop her off and they tell us it will be around 4 hours until the doctor sees her, this was around 7:40, so we leave in hopes that when it’s time to pick her up she’ll be somewhat better. Instead, I get a call from the doctor at midnight saying she couldn’t do ANYTHING because our dog was trying to bite when trying to examine her, first of allour dog has NEVER bit anybody, she might bark but never bite. However the doctor says because of this we can just pick her up or have them sedate her, at this point I was upset that nothing was done and they didn’t give her anything to at least help with her swelling. We go pick her up and they CHARGED OVER100 dollars for a “emergency exam” when the doctor clearly said NOTHING WAS DONE. My dog has not slept and has vomited and her swelling is worse, whatever you do, don’t take them here.

Took my 15 year old Pug to this facility and was told she was in diabetic shock and the deposit to treat her was between $3500-4500 only to be told that only covers the first 16 hours of treatment and new charges start by 1000 am and they dont take calls or release medical records to other vets until the dog is DISCHARGED. so I cant send the records to my regular vet to see if they can provide the same care and not have to pay horrendous overnight fees. And they want to keep my dog for 3-5 days. Danielle the manager was VERY rude and unprofessional and wouldnt discuss fees, what I paid for what I would owe, etc.. her attitude was HORRIBLE. I simply asked what my $3500 payment covered and how much more I would need to pay after 1000 a.m. She said I needed to wait for somebody to call me and it would be later than 1000 so I will automatically start getting charged for another 24 hours. $2800 per day. for 5 days.Really?!?! We had 2 dogs already. Ive always known bulldogs are health issues waiting to happen and I didnt want to be totally responsible for the inevitable. My boyfriend paid for all our pets expenses. Well, my boyfriend of 10 years passed away from Covid in March and here I am with 3 dogs and a lot of expenses.Ive always taken my dogs to the VCA in an emergency, as well as foster dogs when I fostered. I used to tell them Do whatever it takes. I want the best care (obviously). So, this time I took my bulldog, Lambo because he couldnt breathe, his tongue was blue, and a temp. of 106.9. Theyre EXCELLENT at coming to you when they know ahead youll be there and they take your pet right away. Its a relief to know hell be helped. The way the VCA tells you the itemized cost of everything makes me upset every single time. Even halfway down the page, Im taking deep breaths trying to wrap my head around it. I completely understand why they do it and in no way am I saying that I dont agree with their methods however, it hit different when I heard the numbers and no longer had the financial or emotional support from my favorite human being.I will continue to take my dogs there in emergency situations. I feel a sense of comfort there probably because Ive been so many times. In emergency situations, I need comfort. They have some of the best doctors Ive seen. They have great technology and theyve been able to adapt to the Covid regulations really well. For example: They have parking spot numbers and you call them and they come get your animal. Someone calls about 10 minutes later and checks you in. Its super easy. Another thing I liked is they text now. Dr. Norton is the one I specifically remember using it and sent me pictures of Lambo since I couldnt go in to see him.I know this is a very long review but it needed to be said. Theres many variables that makes up the reason I chose 5 stars.

Reina from the front desk during the night shift does not understand where she works or her job as a receptionist. (note - This is not my first rodeo at the VCA emergency hospital with my dog who has had surgery there before and has been taken care of like a champ and the service was amazing.) I tried to take my sick senior dog in after displaying symptoms I have never seen before and she made it seem like it was a night club that I would never be able to get into, finally was able to admit my dog and good thing because he potentially has IVDD.Then I pick my dog up in the morning and am able to speak to the Doctor, which 99% of the other employees are absolutely great and should give this place 5 stars, she tells me of whats going on and what to be checking out over the next couple of weeks. Had to call back the next night as my dogs condition got worse than when I had him there prior, so I called the hospital where my dog was this morning since it was after hours for my primary care. Who did I get? Reina, and she continued to be the worst person ever for a Animal hospital... I tried to explain that I was in that morning and just wanted a follow up conversation to see if what my dog was experiencing was normal and if they had any advice... What was Reinas advice? We are not a primary care, we are an emergency hospital, I would call as many other offices to see if you can get a earlier appointment.Reina should not be employed at a place that involves helping people, pets, anything!

My puppy Simba was extremely sick when I got him back in May of 2020. We did not get him from a breeder (huge mistake) and when we picked him up, we knew he was not in good health. Poor Simba was probably around 4 weeks old instead of 8 weeks, could barely walk, wouldnt eat, etc. After rushing him to VCA, we made a hard decision to hospitalize him and trust in the doctors to work their magic to save him. Because of covid, we could not go in to see him, which was heartbreaking and made it so hard. But, thank god for Dr. Lan and all the amazing techs! They sent me pictures and text updates, and answered all my worried calls to reassure me they were doing everything in their power to make Simba better. Dr. Lan is honestly the sweetest and most sincere vet, and I felt how much she truly cared and loved Simba while caring for him. After several days hospitalized, I got to bring Simba home! He had a feeding tube and I had to feed him every four hours, give him multiple medications, and say lots of prayers, but he fought hard and made it through! I cannot thank everyone at VCA enough for saving my sweet pup. Dr. Lans passion for helping me and my dog inspired me to pursue a career in the veterinary field, so that I can also be a part of helping people and their beloved pets. Yesterday my cat was experiencing respiratory distress. This was not his first episode as we have been working with a team of vets to try and figure out his underlying conditions. We brought him in because his breathing rate was too high, 60 breaths per min and sustained for over an hour. Dr.Garcia was his vet while he was there this time around and I just want to share what a wonderful job he did of caring for our cat Luke. He didnt pressure us to do anything insanely expensive, spent 20 min going over our options with us twice(!) and even called today to check in on Lukes condition. If thats not a good vet I dont know what is. We were able to get him stabilized and bring him home but unfortunately he will have to see an internal medicine specialist asap. He is a complicated case and has confounded several doctors already but more than anything I appreciate Dr. Garcia working through our options with us and being so transparent. Weve visited this facility twice for emergencies and also to see a cardiologist and have mostly had good experiences. Dont get me wrong emergency care is expensive! But its good to know that their doctors care and are kind about the process.Four stars instead of five because the check out process last time we had an emergency visit in Aug 2020 was a bit messy. I think we got the B team that time around but even then I did not feel swindled by this facility.

Thank you for taking my cat (Elvis King) and for looking at many possible ways to make him feel better...? However, your treatment options are very expensive.I think you are putting your best interest in getting money first instead of genuinely helping our pets when they are in life-threatening need.Your plan treatment was so EXPENSIVE that the cheapest way to resolve his issue was to put him down, and even that was highly priced. My cat didnt have rabies like you were suspicious he had; you could have kept him for a few days “in observation” without charging me for each day $1000. WHO CAN AFFORD THAT? Not many of us. Now, he is gone, and nothing can bring him back. Again, I know you are not a charitable organization, but please be reasonable. They were prompt and very sympathetic. I received regular updates on treatment plan, cost and prognosis. Due to covid this is the process.Everyone handle his care with compassion. I have never met a more friendly crew. They come highly recommend from my family. God bless you and your team. To anyone that sees this, if you have a emergency they are the best hands down. Open 24 hours.

I brought my dog here a few days ago and left even more upset than when I got there originally. After waiting for 4 hours I finally received a call from the vet to tell me she has no clue whats wrong with my dog. However, she wanted to run all sorts of tests on him. Why would I agree to you running tests on my dog when you cant even give me some intel on whats wrong him? Not only that, but she mentioned that if these test results come back and dont show anything shed want to run even more tests after that. Zero medical opinion was offered aside from running test after test. The vet didnt even know what the tests she would be running were going to be for, she just seemed like she was hoping shed come across something. Before they took my dog in I explained my concerns and when I received the phone call, all that was said was what I told her initially, no new information at all. I spent $140.00 to be told she doesnt know whats wrong with my dog. My dog was curled up in a ball for hours, not eating/drinking/ anything or moving, which is a clear indicator that something was wrong and she tells me she doesnt suspect a thing? He was clearly in pain, I know my dog. I told her about my concerns that my regular vet and I talked about and when she called me all she did was repeat the same thing. How is that helpful in anyway? When I expressed my concern about all of these tests her solution was to push more tests on me. In the end I was basically guilted in to giving my dog a shot because I just wanted to get off the phone and she wouldnt stop with her recommendations. I have been bringing my dog to VCA all his life, and I can assure you, I will never come back to this place. Dont believe me? Ask around, or simply read the reviews. It was obvious she didnt care about the well being of my dog and just wanted to make money. $140.00 to be told nothing. I took my dog home and took him to my new regular vet early in the morning and he was actually helpful. He gave me reason behind what he wanted to do. He didnt try and guilt me in to all of these tests without reason like the vet at VCA. I felt very discouraged about my dog after leaving VCA and was genuinely appalled at the lack of information that was relayed to me. After this whole let down, the vet didnt even bother calling the next day to check how my dog was doing even though I was told she would! I have never gone out of my way to actually leave a review, but this experience needed one.

I had been giving hospice care to our beloved senior dog at home. He had had a rough day and as a family we decided it would be his last and we would take him to our regular vet the next day. His health quickly declined that evening and we didnt feel it fair to make him suffer through the night to wait for our vet to open. I called and spoke with Ann and let her know we were a 20 min drive from them. Got there around 9pm and the tech came out to get him. Everyone was so patient and compassionate throughout out the entire experience. We felt we were a priority but also not rushed to say our goodbyes. We had opted to forgo diagnostic testing for our guy due to his age and breed but the tech was kind enough to come out after the quick exam and provide me with support from the vet in our decision letting me know they could hear his hear was failing. Its never easy to say goodbye to a pet and especially during covid when you cant stay until the end but this hospital did a great job of making the process as painless as possible on their end.

I had my sick kitten here for three days and they charged me over $7000. Not to mention, I had to call every time to get an update on his health. Even with all the expensive testing, they couldnt diagnose the condition which is extremely upsetting. They told me he had a different condition, each day. I asked the vet to give him IV nutrition since he wasnt eating, and for some reason they never did. They didnt try to feed him either, which contributed to his sickness. Kittens cant even survive without food, so what was the point of the treatment if he isnt getting vitamins and proteins to help his immune system? He ended up dying here, and I asked if they could find out what sort of infection he had, and they refused because its going to add to my vet bill. They kept pushing me to euthanize him, but I was hoping hed pull through this infection. I had no idea how severe it was until they told me today that his infection reached his bone marrow. Im heart broken and very confused. You guys dont truly care about helping animals, you just care about making money.👎

NEVER GO HERE! I called 30mins prior to arrival with a dog that had a brain injury, they said come by and we will help him. I arrived, 30 mins later, we called line was busy. I called again with the number posted on door, line was busy. I walked up to the door and buzzed the ringer 8 times, no answer. I called again and they said to move the car up to the front of there steep parking lot and we will get to you. So people are watching the cameras but not answering the phones or the buzzer with a bleeding dog? I took the dog back to the car, moved the car, my shirt is covered in blood. Turned the car off and called again 3 times, no answer. Went back to the buzzer no answer I waited there for 5 mins. I get back in my car as my dog is bleeding out and having a seizure and call 3 more times. On the 3rd time calling I get a lady on the phone that is incredibly rude and says you have to wait 6-8hrs to get treatment! My dog would of been dead my then, she stated well that’s our rules. DO NOT GO HERE IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY! It’s a numbers games and they don’t care if animals die as long as they can charge there overpriced services. I went to another location and spoke with the DR, that saved my dogs life and he said it’s a hidden secret this is ran by a corporation and just to keep your pet there overnight is 1k—- in a cage with only a 4hr round being done to check on your injured pet! If I could give 0 stars I would! If your looking to pay a lot of $ and have your pet die, you came to the right place!!!!!!!!!

Do not go here. Our experience was nothing but a headache here. We took our dog here one night after he was vomiting multiple times.. they sent us on our way after charging us about 400 dollars claiming it was most likely nothing and i should wait for my vet appointment... turns out my dog needed emergency surgery and they sent me back to VCA. Once they found out he needed surgery they kept pressuring us to get 8,000 dollars in funds in one night, constantly calling saying they needed the money so they could do the surgery and would not offer any resources to help us figure out what to do without those funds. Once they figured we couldnt get the money for the EMERGENCY surgery they were pressuring me about they claimed they could not help us. They ended up milking us for 1,200 dollars in one night, this included “bloodwork” for surgery one that they refused to perform the next day and I had to scramble and find somewhere else to take my dog because although they call it a “referring” hospital they didnt even help do that. Once we took him to the next hospital we found out VCA did not even send them the bloodwork they had done. At the end of the day we wasted money and time here and some of the front staff was rude as hell one even “ughed” as I called again because they had me going back in forth. At the end of the day if you want helpful, understanding and compassionate service don’t go here and go to VSH instead .

Please pick a different emergency vet. I am not ever one to complain or negatively review a business as I know people/places can have off days. However, Ive had so many poor experiences here, and after my last experience, it is obvious that there is a major systematic issue with this business.I have taken different dogs here on 4 seperate occasions. From my experience I heed this warning because I love dogs and believe they are precious and innocent. This business disagrees. Our love for them is clearly being taken advantage of by the people here. Before bringing your pet, it is important to know that these doctors certainly care much more about their bank accounts than they do your pet. I brought my dogs here out of necessity and fear, and each time they made it clear their priorities are not their patients, but to try to sneak as many charges into the statement as possible. They then try to get us to pay it quickly and without question. They are pushy and dishonest, but we were able to catch them attempting to scam us out of a few hundred dollars here and there.I am a physician (for humans) and I have understanding of billing and running a practice. They try to sneak little things like double referral fees (illegal), charging follow up x-rays like they are the initial ($250 difference in price), re-admitting fees and new exam fees for a dog brought back for follow up, scaring us into blatantly unnecessary testing and using medical jargon to convince us to go along without understanding. The worst experience was when I brought my dog in to check x-rays for something specific and the doctor (not knowing I understand everything she tried to throw over my head) made a very blatant attempt to try to scare me into keeping my 4 year old very healthy dog there over night. There was absolutely zero clinical reason to keep him, and when I told her I was a physician and just wanted to understand her thinking she completely dropped it.From my experience this practice and the staff in it are dishonest, rude, and care little about you or your pet. I brought my dog today for a routine lab and it took 2.5 hours when they told me it would take 15 minutes. I asked if they were busy today and they denied. I speculate that they are overwhelmed, underpaid, and have lost their love for animals that got them into the profession. I cannot fathom any other reasons they could treat people and dogs this way.Im just a stranger asking because I care so much about dogs (and pets in general).. please take your pet somewhere else if you can. If not, be diligent and do not expect these people to do whats in the best interest of you or your pet. They do not care.. They care about using your fear to profit as much as possible.

First of all, know that this is an emergency hospital and will be expensive because if your pet is going here its for an emergency. My 12 year old Chihuahua had a 105 fever 11pm and couldnt walk and was close to organ failure if his fever didnt decrease. I called in panic and the receptionist was reassuring, especially when I wasnt sure to wait till the next day or take him in asap.I was updated with prices, information and cute pictures which helped me feel at ease every few hours. Their facility has specialists which helped them diagnosis more effectively. My vet, I went to in the morning didnt identify the correct infection which resulted in me going to VCA that same day.I was also emailed all of the information of Hercules health condition and all the treatments which was helpful with following up with my usual vet.I did end up spending $5000, due to Hercules multiple day stay, but now hes back and healthy which is the most important. You can always make back money, but once your furry family member is lost you cant ever get them back. I do feel for be those who cannot afford to save their beloved pets.VCA is expensive, but comprehensive and informative.Attached are the updates they sent me.

My Cat accidently chewed on a Advil PM gel tablet and started vomiting and drooling everywhere. This was at 8:40PM on a Sunday Night. We immediately called VCA on hotel circle as they are the closet ones to us and they told us to come down asap. Due to COVID you have to wait in your car until someone can come out to get your pet. That took awhile, we got to the vet, let them know we were outside and we waited for a good hour before someone could come and get him. This was frustrating but it does make sense because they were prioritizing the life critical condition animals first. My cat at that point stopped vomitings and was just chilling in the crate, and appeared fine, so I wasnt going to be pushy. They also told us on the phone that they were slammed and to expect some delays unless my cat was in a critical condition. So the expectation of waiting was already there. Once they did take him, I was impressed at the care they gave him. They triaged him right away and treated him. I felt they really weighted the cost of care at a hospital versus at home and gave us an option that was cost effective for the current condition of my cat. I got updated throughout the night on his condition and picked him up several hours later. Everyone was professional and I could tell they deeply cared about my cat and gave me a ton of information to take home. This was the first time I had to use an animal emergency service and I was happy with the service.

If I could give more stars I would. We were on vacation in Ocean Beach with our three mutts. Walking down the beach and my 7 year old border collie started profusely bleeding from the mouth. My wife and I are both in health care and thought for sure we could sort it out. 30 minutes later it wasnt slowing down. We rushed her over to VCA and were told she needed emergency surgery to stop the bleeding. They had her prepped for surgery within 15 minutes. They gave us quote that ranged from (approximately) $750 to $1800. They knew we didnt care. We just wanted her taken care of. They were VERY compassionate and understanding. They allowed us back to see her briefly prior to sedating and putting her on the breathing machine. We waited around for about 90 minutes and received regular updates on her condition. When it was all over they gave us the option of taking her or letting her stay overnight to be watched by their staff. We took that route. In the end the total was VERY fair. They charged us just about a hundred dollars over the MINIMUM estimate. Dr. Deavilla was such a wonderful vet to work with. The whole process from start to finish was smooth. Jacob was the front desk guy that we corresponded with throughout the night and into the next morning. He was very helpful, kind and patient. He was happy to answer all of our questions. After stabilizing our dog, who was in critical condition upon admission, surgery was performed and two nights later he returned home. As mentioned in other reviews, VCA is very expensive - it should only be used for true emergencies - but we were impressed with VCAs professionalism and quality of care. We were especially grateful for their excellent communication as we were called by a vet several times with updates and we were even sent photos of our dog. So now I have to spend more money to treat their problem at another vet. 2 stars are only because the girl on the phone did try to remedy the situation.Update: I contacted the email address below about this and the person on the other end told me vca uses a 3rd party company to respond to these reviews and that he would get back to me next week. After they did her vitals, a woman walked her back to my car, said “here”, handed me my dog and began walking away. She didn’t inform me of my dog’s condition and was very rude in the way she handed my puppy back off to me. When I asked if she could tell me how her vitals were, she stated “well I heard you’re leaving and you’ll need to take her to a vet”. I called before I went there just to make sure they could treat exotics. So I told the doctor my baby was usually active between 5 and 1 and he asked me if it was during the day or night. I immediately felt upset because it is such a common sense that hamsters only come out during night. The way he handled my hamster was so harsh. Yet he told me she was fine by checking heart beat and temperature. They first wanted to proceed with blood work, then he came back told me he consulted with another specialist that we needed to use antibiotics. Tldr: Excellent facility and truly caring individuals ... but there is a lack of communication between employees, and you have to FIGHT to get answers. What happened: I thought my cat was experiencing a urinary blockage (a medical emergency, which hes had before), and so I took him there on a Saturday evening. I was fortunate in that there was no one in the waiting room at all, and they immediately had a vet tech take him back to determine if he needed emergency surgery. He didnt need surgery after all (he wasnt blocked), and we waited a little while to speak with the vet about what was potentially going on, because clearly he was sick. We ended up having him stay overnight, during which they did diagnostic tests and treated him for nausea, fever and vomiting, which were the only visible symptoms. Unfortunately they could not ever figure out what was wrong, and he was released in the morning after having paid a total of $1600 just to have him there overnight, with the diagnostic tests, and treatments. I was given antibiotics to take home and administer. I was upset that I had to spend all that money essentially for no diagnosis or understanding as to what happened, but when you go to the vet, answers simply arent guaranteed... so, while its frustrating, it isnt necessarily their fault. But here is why I give this facility only 3 stars: I had to really fight hard to talk to vets and vet techs to GET ANSWERS. This animal hospital has GOOD employees (and they REALLY care), but the problem is that vets and vet techs leave their shifts, and it seems like there is a HUGE gap in communication as a result. For example, when I went to pick up my cat, he was prescribed the wrong medication to take home, and they had to re-do the entire treatment plan. If I hadnt said anything, they wouldnt have caught that. There were other times I had to ask the same questions to different vets/vet techs, and sometimes I would even get different answers. Its extremely frustrating to talk to a vet for 15 heartfelt minutes, feeling like youre confident that they truly heard your concerns, only to call back hours later (or pick up your pet hours later), and its like you have to start all over again and remind the current vets/vet techs what the previous ones did and said to you. In a matter of hours, you will likely be dealing with multiple vet techs/vets, so just be prepared for that.Be prepared to fill them in yourself. Its very frustrating. I really think this place is excellent, but I sincerely wish they would work on communication between one another. On a positive note ... the vet tech who finally checked me out when I was picking up my cat ... was extremely patient, understanding, and helpful with me. She addressed all of my unanswered questions and apologized that they were unable to find out whats wrong, and sympathized with my frustrations about that. SHE made the entire experience OK in the end, because she actually gave a s*** about her job. Her name is Maggie. Thank you, Maggie! On another positive note ... my cat was a LOT better when I picked him up, and luckily the treatments they did overnight really helped him. So despite not pinpointing what happened, they did help him, and he needed those treatments, and so I dont feel as though the experience was a waste. It was just overly expensive though, because they did all of those tests... were they really necessary?

The doctors here are highly incompetent, especially in their diagnostic abilities. Dr. Suzanne Gray especially is short-tempered, egotistical and severely lacking in her bedside manner skills and empathy both for you and your pet. My dog died shortly after being discharged despite a $15,000 bill after being given an 90% chance of survival by my local veterinarian. In general, the doctors and staff are overworked and do not have time to devote the necessary attention to their patients. When I asked to take my dog to another hospital for a second opinion, Dr. Gray threatened and intimidated me with a call to the Humane Society even though she had given me no treatment options for my pet and had recommended euthanasia. Overall, my experience here was horrible and I very strongly recommend against bringing your pet here if you want them to get the care they deserve.

It’s not something you should have to undergo while losing a pet you love. I really hope no one else has to go through the experience I went through - choose a different hospital if you can.

This was a purely terrible experience for me and my 4.5 month old German Shepherd pup Lemon on Sunday night. Lemon was on the receiving end of a vicious bite to the face that night. She had blood pouring from a puncture wound just below her eye (that went into the sinuses as is turned out with a broken sinus bone) and a ton of swelling to her nose that lead to obviously labored breathing. I am an ER doctor so even though this was very traumatizing, I was far from panicking. I washed out the wounds, applied pressures to stop the bleeding and immediately drove her to VCA. I called the triage/reception line as soon as we parked since no visitors are allowed inside. That’s fine, I know as well as anyone that with COVID things are a little difficult. However, when i spoke to the receptionist and explained what was going on (major dog bite to the face with deep open wound, facial swelling, and labored breathing), she explained to me they were only open for “real” emergencies like “seizures and dogs hit by cars”. I explained that I was fairly certain this was a “real emergency” given the airway issue, or could at least become one very quickly given the airway swelling. She sounded annoyed by my concerns but said a tech would be “right out” to check on Lemon. Nobody came out to see us. I watched as the vet tech came out to greet car after car that pulled up to drop off their pets for routine boarding/hospitalization (since many animal hospitals/clinics have closed overnight kennels bc of COVID, this pre-paid scheduled boarding must be more lucrative for their ER than seeing emergencies). As 45 minutes passed and the tech still ignored us, I did start to panic. VCA: if you guys are making an ER doctor panic, you are doing something horribly wrong. I called the triage/reception line again. They again assured me someone would be “right out”. After an agonizing 5 additional minutes, the tech finally came by. Before even looking at Lemon he said they were full and only seeing...”real emergencies”. He then took 2 seconds to actually look at my pup, and was prompted by her distress to actually ask what happened (a miracle it felt like!!). He agreed this was a “real emergency” and said that’s why they are there, to see “dogs hit by cars, seizures, and serious dog bites”. Thank god he was willing to expand the list of dog emergencies. However, without actually examining my pup, just a cursory look through the window, he said the wait would likely be 3 hours or more.Luckily In the 50 minutes I was parked, I managed to get a hold of our primary vet at 9:30PM (Dr Schultz at Coastview is AMAZING!!) and send her a video of Lemon’s labored breathing and wounds. Although she said she could see us first thing in the morning, she recommended we get seen tonight to get the wound thoroughly washed (which is tough without strong pain meds), get her started on antibiotics, and make sure there were no major broken bones to the face that could lead to more serious breathing issues. In other words, a delay in care could lead to a worse outcome. Which obviously didn’t matter to the VCA staff whatsoever. Luckily, Dr Schultz recommended a couple ERs that would have less wait. After a senseless 50 minute delay, we ended up going to Animal Emergency Clinic Of San Diego (in Poway). They said there would be a 40 minute wait. But the moment we got there, they knew we were coming, and tech was out IMMEDIATELY to see Lemon. She showed Lemon lots of affection and was clearly concerned. But she also offered me reassurance that she would “be ok”. Which is all A scared puppy dad wanted to hear. Lemon loved the tech, and the whole staff was great. Lemon is healing up well and I already got two follow up phone callsVCA, you should be absolutely ashamed of the (LACK OF) care you are providing. If you say you are open for emergencies, you need to do your F*ing job. COVID-19 is no excuse for not being compassionate towards someone’s injured loved one and their puppy dad

My dog was throwing up and had blood in his stool. We were recommended to go here by VCA Angels. After check in, a random tech walked in, offered a glucose test for $100. They could not explain why it was offered, the Vet later said he did not need it either. The vet said she would not touch my dog or she would charge $100, after 30 minutes of me waiting. She offered a full CBC and Chem test for $500!!! I walked out. North Park Animal hospital did it $148. North Park did not charge me to touch my dog either.

We couldnt have asked for better care of our little 8 year old Chihuahua. We brought her in heavily panting and after 2 different doctors couldnt figure out what was wrong with her. They did the right tests and unfortunately found she has PH. The put her in an oxygen room, constantly contacted us, they let us contact them any time to get updates and even sent us photos of our girl. We highly recommend this hospital for emergencies and specialty issues.

They saved my old retrievers life after a failed surgery at another vet. They told me to pull the plug. I said No! VCA to the rescue. Intubated, ambulance ride, emergency surgery. My kids are playing with him in the yard right now! I have never been more grateful for such great attention to care... Thank you for giving Rocco a few more quality years.

We are elderly, and our beloved dog had an incurable condition, and the caring people at this hospital helped us decide to put her down. They did it with great love and care. We have both lost our parents, and for us, losing our dog was much harder, and these people understood. They understood, and they helped us in our time of crisis.Merle Borg, San Diego

When our cat ate part of a Tylenol we rushed him to VCA. The staff was quick, compassionate and really easy to communicate with about the treatment plan. The cost estimate was fair and they provided excellent care. Highly recommend for any emergency pet needs. Thank you VCA ❤️ Captain Kidd!

After not eating her dinner, our dog started shaking and panting heavily last night. We called VCA in a bit of a panic to ask if we should bring her in. The woman who answered the phone was kind and calm as she asked a number of questions. Based on what we were observing, she recommended that we keep a close eye on her and take her to our normal vet in the morning when the office opened. She offered some advice for things to try at home, and told us what additional symptoms to look out for that might help us determine if she needed emergency care at any point during the night. When we woke up today, we were grateful that our dog was back to her normal, spunky self. Like any pet owners, wed do anything for her. If VCA told us to come in, we would have raced over there! I appreciated that they cared more about our dog than getting a couple hundred bucks out of us for an after-hours visit. We have four pets and wont hesitate to take them to VCA if we need to in the future.

Avoid taking your pet here. I unfortunately didnt read reviews first because I was referred by our very honest and trust worthy vet. I made an appointment for our boxer who needed to have 2 tumors removed. Our vet originally quoted $650 but then didnt feel confident to do the surgery since by the time we could afford it the tumor had grown. When making the appointment I was very clear we didnt want a biopsy and no further treatment only removal of the tumors. $140 consult fee. Then after seeing the vet, $1700-$1900 estimate and we were then told they are required to do the biopsy???? Should inform personnel who make appointments of this rule or be honest when people book and clearly tell you NO BIOPSY ($295 for biopsy). We found a local vet in our area that was able to do the surgery same day as our consult and for $925!!! These VCA places are all about the money and see dollar signs when you bring your pet in for care. AVOID THEM PLEASE!!!!

We have taken our dog here twice, and both times he was seen right away and the staff was very compassionate, efficient, and the doctors communicated the possible causes and treatment very well. When you have to take your pets here its never for a good reason, yet we felt at ease and that our fur baby was well taken care of. Would definitely come back, but hopefully we wont need to!

Terrible experience overall. I went in because my dog got something stuck in his throat and was whining when he swallowed and wouldnt let us open up his mouth. Checked him in and we sat and waited. $480 for the x-ray and check up as he coughed up the sharp weed on his own (according to the doctor) who performed the x-ray after he coughed it up. She was nice and thorough in examination and while talking with us, but recommended we look further and sedate him and go in with a scope for an additional $1700-2500. We declined the additional services as we didnt believe they were needed. So at that point I was fine with paying the $480, get our dog, and be on our way. It then took another 1.5 hours to get our puppy back even after I prompted the nurses to try to expedite the process. We were handed our dog back who was out of it and whining with a there ya go without telling us that the drug they injected in him would cause him to be loopy and make him whine for 8-10 hours. Distraught we called back, waited on hold, called back again and the response was oh well shes new (the nurse that gave us our dog) and she should have told you about the side effects of the drug. I will never go back there.

I had an excellent experience with this emergency pet hospital. They were very helpful over the phone before we even got there advising us what our options were for treatment. When we arrived, the wait time wasnt that bad. We were in to see the vet in about 30 mins. We had two dogs that needed medical care and they were very accommodating to both of them. The vet was very knowledgeable and personable. She explained all of our options and answered all of our questions. Their care was and treatment was very caring and professional. I will definitely use them again for any of my emergency pet care needs.

My dog couldnt open his eyes. I couldnt wait in the morning to take my dog to a vet. They were helpful with my dog. They did all the test to see if they were anything wrong. All the test came up negative, so I was glad. The prices were a little steep, but it was an emergency, so I expected it. My wait wasnt very lengthy. They referred a good vet near my area.

Unfortunately, I have to give this rating because our indoor cat got fleas after staying at this hospital for 2 nights. Aside from this, we enjoyed our experience at this hospital. The staff was friendly, informative, and seemed like they really cared about the well-being of our cat. Additionally, I received 2 calls per day noting the status of my cat, which was really nice. Finally, they offered visiting hours which was a nice surprise. However, the fleas are causing me to dock the rating by some stars.

Took our old English bulldog Friday (12/27) before 5pm as we couldn’t get in to see our vet. She had torn her nail nearly off and was in a lot of pain. Positives: nice modern, clean, comfortable facility, open 24 hours. Negatives: you pay a lot for these amenities and hours, the front office receptionist (Older blonde woman) is the loudest person I’ve met in a medical environment, they don’t allow you to be there during any treatment for your animal when they are being looked over/evaluated, they just come out to you in the waiting room with a bill to sign if you want treatment, and the treatment explanation comes from a vet tech (not the actual vet you’re paying over $200 to see). The total cost was $425. They gave her a pain injection to remove the nail (definitely needed), but when they were done, and we got to see her, she was panting profusely and her breathing. was labored. We could take her home like that (bulldogs are known to die from this type of labored breathing) or we could have another injection to reverse what they initially gave gave her (and what we were already paying for). We chose the reversal (obviously) without any “quote” of what the cost would be. That cost was over $100 for the reversal! We had some Tramadol at home from a prior surgery so that saved us. However, we only had a few pills and when I called tonight to have the RX called into our local pharmacy, I was told we had to get it from them directly ($33 for 10 pills) which is at least 10 times what it would cost at the pharmacy because they don’t have a DEA #? Seriously? A vet hospital doesn’t have a DEA#? Tramadol #60 - 50mg at Ralph’s pharmacy is $9.65. The fact that they gauge/charge their customers for medication that is clearly not expensive is borderline criminal.

My mini aussie was recently attacked by a coyote and rushed here at 2am. She was in critical condition, in cardiovascular shock with substantial lood loss. Literally my worst nightmare. Not only were the staff and doctors thorough and attentive, but they did an amazing job at keeping me updated and letting me see my girl while she was fighting for her life. I finally was able to pick her up after 2 days and take her home. People complain about the prices here, but the bottom line is my dog received the best care and without it, she might not be here - which is worth more than any amount of money. I honestly cant thank VCA and their team enough for saving my baby.

Unfortunately, my dog got sick on Christmas day and I had no other choice but take her to the nearest ER Vet. Front Desk and Vet Techs are cordial and well trained. First assessment was finished for uti symptoms and the disproportional estimate has been presented ( costs $1100). Of course, were in a vulnerable position and I agree with everything. I believe they hire new graduates because its like their reading their textbooks, very patronizing yet no effective treatment for my dogs symptoms. Dr. Wagner was dismissive when I requested an anti-inflammatory or a pain reliever. My dog got home acting as miserable as she was before been seen. Hows that possible? This is the disease of pro-profit US Vet healthcare system. First, lets make as much money as possible considering the situation and cover any possible liabilities. Next day, Ive taken my dog to her regular vet, who gave her a pain killer injection and anti-inflammatory pills...GUESS WHAT? She finally improved.(Costs $385).Please do better. This is classic for profit corporate America health system, for humans or animals. The most inhumane system available in the world where costs are completely disproportional to treatment received.
