The place looks very nice and clean but I wish they would actually Care about my pet… I came with my dog to treat a skin issue, the doctor gave her antibiotic and a spray. One of them caused her a bad allergy reaction and when I came the next day, the lady at the front desk just gave me a different antibiotic, which I had to pay for of course , and the vet didn’t even bother to come out and check my dog.

Dr Weston is possibly the best vet we ever had in three states. Went out of his way to help us with our senior spaniel with lots of issues all the way through end of life. He was professional, made reasonable recommendations (as opposed to throwing out every possible treatment under the sun and saying your choice) and a pleasure to work with. Cannot recommend enough.

Amazing staff, everything is so efficient there. Great daycare with many dogs for yours to socialize with under supervision. Have Happy Hour where you can drop your dog off for a few hours to get out energy so you can get stuff done before the night at home. Huge facility and great vet staff as well! Took a foster dog there and now our current family dog.

Im regretfully giving them 2 stars. First, the doctors, Wesson and Appleby have been fantastic. I trust them whole heartedly. They are both very knowledgeable, caring and patient. Top kudos to them both. Only 2 stars because the front office is too unreliable. Jesse is on meds for seizures and we are almost out. We have an auto refill but Boyds now only uses one pharmacy or you can get a written prescription to go where you want. This stopped the auto refill for her meds. We called for a written prescription and never got it. This was not the only issue. Previously, Jessie had a bad case of diarrhea and they did not have any openings but offered a drop off so the doctor could see her between patients. Issue was when I arrived they had no record of the drop off and I had to argue to leave her. This happened twice. On a third occasion, they would not even do a drop off for 3 days! I had to call another vet, explained the situation and they said they too were booked but allow us to do a drop off so Jessie could be examined and treated. The prescription issue is the last draw, having them send the medical records to a new vet and moving on. Disappointing because Dr. Wesson and Appleby are great but if our dogs cant see them, then we cant get the care our dogs need.

Had an 11am grooming appointment, got there at 1030, asked if my dog could also get vaccinations and teeth checked at some point during the visit. got a call shortly after 11am from the vet to follow up on the request made when I dropped her off, then noon from the groomer asking me what I wanted as far as grooming. at 230 (2.5hrsy later) I called to get an update on when my 18 lb dog would be ready, and told since she was late she would be last and there were several dogs ahead of her. I then told them I would be coming in to get my dog. On entering I shared I thought it was BS and was told not to use such language. My next few words were a little more choice. I informed them I was not late but in fact early to the appointment. NEVER GOING BACK. EVERNICE try, but your LYING the appointment was for 11am, no prior time was arranged, I asked for the additional service when I drop our dog off at 1030, DONT WORRY I WILL NOT BE COMING BACK AND YOU ARE FULL OF Sh!T. We first went to Dr.Boyd’s in 2020 when we moved to the area for our 2 dogs. One of them was newly adopted. We saw Dr. Appleby and he was fantastic! He explained that our newly adopted dog had some anxiety and that we could medicate but did not push the issue when we declined. Recently, I took my mini Aussie in for a consultation on a growth on his eye - was told it needed to be surgically removed and that he also needed a dental. Was then told I would have my estimate by the end of the week - called on Friday, was told I would have it by end of day, nothing - called on Saturday, was again told end of day, nothing - called on Sunday, was told end of day or Monday morning - called Monday and was told that the doctor was very busy but I would have it by the end of the day. I finally received my estimate on Thursday of that week, over a week after my appointment. I’m very understanding of things being busy but communication was just poor in my opinion. If it won’t be done for a week that’s fine but let me know rather than promising something you can’t deliver. Our other dog went in this past weekend for his annual exam and I had requested Dr. Appleby and when called for his exam found out that is not who we were seeing - again I am understanding but a little communication here would’ve been helpful - and we were told again that he needed to be medicated for his anxiety but came off of less of a suggestion and more of a “you need to medicate him” - mind you this dog is only anxious at the vet which you would think would be understandable as most pets have some form of anxiety at the vets office. And to top it all off my dog came out of the exam with an abrasion to his nose that my fiancé was notified of when he went in to get him and saw blood in the exam room. We then had to deal with blood for the rest of the afternoon because he “thrashed around” during vaccines and scraped his nose.

I absolutely love Dr. Boyd’s. During a time with great uncertainty in the world, there is GREAT certainty with Dr. Boyd’s. I received a reminder via email that my dog was due for his shots. The staff was responsive and provided me with a same day appointment. I was able to schedule a no contact appointment for drop off and pick up. I cant say enough positive things about Dr. Wesson and the staff at Dr. Boyds Veterinary Resort. I was away on an international trip last year when my dogs attacked each other while staying with a sitter in a freak accident. They were rushed to the hospital and the staff at Dr. Boyds stepped right in to help. They coordinated with the emergency vet next door for emergency boarding and care for the youngest dog. The staff communicated via email, phone, and through some friends who were able to help on the ground. They even let my cousin come for visits with Cooper while we were away. After that experience I switched all of my dogs to Dr. Boyds for vet care and boarding services. They love it. I have never had an incident since. It is so great to walk in and the dogs are excited to see the staff. Another thing I like, Dr. Wesson is conservative when it comes to recommending surgery for our senior dog and I appreciate that. He takes the time to explain the medical landscape and gives you options. My family is moving and we will be leaving the practice. I hope we can find a team as amazing and caring as this one.

We initially took our cat here to get a second opinion because he was declining rapidly and we were not happy with the care he was receiving at his previous vet. We requested Dr. Wesson because he was recommended by a friend. For our cats first appt, Dr. Wesson read his ENTIRE chart/history (which may not seem impressive, but it was a hefty chart and no other vet had ever taken the time to do this) He also waited until our cat, Frank, was comfortable before he started the exam. Frank went back to see Dr. Wesson many times. We always felt that Dr. Wesson had ours and Franks best interest in mind and was never just running tests to make money. Ultimately, Frank was not able to recover, but we are so thankful that Dr. Wesson was the one performing his end of life care. We will bring all of our future pets to see Dr. Wesson and I recommend that you do too.

Dr Boyds was very unprofessional with their service to our puppy. Their immediate response to our dog being a 5 month old puppy was to tell us to medicate him for anxiety. They refused to even touch him since he was borderline aggressive and doing behaviors never seen before. Instead of trying to work with our puppy, telling us it would have been better to start his grooming before 6 months (which he was still 5 months old), they sent him home and told us to medicate him before coming back. We took him to a different groomer, a week later, NO MEDICATION and they said he loved the entire process and the new groomer cut him amazing! Bad vibe at Dr. Boyds and we will never go back because the dog definitely did not feel comfortable going there and neither did we.Update: It has been almost 2 months since this incident and no one from Dr. Boyds has reached out asking if we want to come back, not that we would but, if you are going to recommend something like medication for a dog and try coming back after a medicine wouldnt you want to follow up with potential customers?

Dr. Wesson took his time to explain the procedure and recovery for me. They even threw in a complimentary Pawdicure (nail trim :). The Dr. Was very nice and extremely informative. A lot was explained regarding our choices before surgery yet my wife and I never felt rushed. One major problem is that theres a bird (I believe to be known as a cat bird) that attacked us every time we were on the parking lot let alone running to and from the building. It even stayed by us while in the car seeking refuge. This was a bit too much and nerve racking as we had our six month old with us. Our 130lb pressa caimmediately and got swooped in on a few times and was actually pecked on. When we brought it to the vets attention it was taken very lightly. Yea, I know he does that all the time we were told. Everyone says the same thing they also added. These responses were very surprising to us specially when we mentioned our six moth old baby. The lack of attention made my wife and I very uneasy and therefore have chosen to go elsewhere. Thank you Dr. Boyds Vet Resort for your business but when a customer brings a complaint to your attention it should be handled immediately and properly and NOT to be taken lightly let alone ignored!!!

I had my cat do the neuter surgery there one month ago, the estimate they gave me is about $500. But my cat died during the surgery. I didn’t receive any call that day to inform me how is my cat presurgery test going until he died. The dr said everything is normal in his blood test, nothing wrong, he can’t explain exactly why he died. So first he said he may had FIP, then he said it maybe the cardiac problem. I don’t understand if his blood test is all right, why dr suddenly found so many problems after he died. My cat was playful, had no problem at home before the surgery. This is such a heartbreak. And they tried to charge me for the tests after my cat died and I refused. They never do the follow up calls after the vaccine.

Dr. Wesson is incredible! I recently experienced a very concerning situation with my cat Calvin. He started acting so out of character - not eating as much, hiding, and even started limping. I was obviously quite worried and started calling multiple vets in the area but Dr. Boyd’s was the only vet who could get him in that day. Dr. Wesson was extremely helpful and walked me through his thoughts and explained Calvin’s exam in detail. We were sent home with pain meds, but Dr. Wesson said if it didn’t get better to come back and he’d do X-rays on Calvin. Unfortunately, my kitty only improved for a short time but would return to his withdrawn self after the meds wore off. I called back in and after a couple days/some confusion with reception, I was able to speak to Dr. Wesson directly who asked me to bring Calvin in the very next morning for scans. It meant so much to me that he made time to re-examine Calvin though I’m sure his schedule was quite full. Luckily, the X-rays proved everything was fine and it was just a soft tissue injury. Dr. Wesson did a laser treatment and provided more pain meds for my guy - here we are about a week later and my cat is back to his crazy, ornery self and I couldn’t be happier! I am so thankful that Dr. Wesson and his team cared for my cat just as I do.

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. The facility is fantastic and, with an elderly dog, I appreciated the thought put into a rubberized surface in the waiting area and exam rooms. The staff was friendly and efficient. Yet the reason we came here is because of the medical director, Dr.Wesson. John has cared for our dog for roughly eight years now. He helped us build a treatment plan for a complicated and lifelong medical condition, has been an advocate for our dog and helped us find the best care possible. When a neighbor had a dog with a relapse of cancer, we sent them to Dr Wesson who provided compassionate care to the whole family.I also got a tour of the facility and was really impressed with the thought and care that had gone into it. Fantastic play spaces for the dogs that stay for boarding, a top-notch hospital suite, and 24 hour drop off and pick up for boarding!? I have been using Dr. Boyds veterinary services for over a year, and they are wonderful. I have a rescue, who was so fearful of everything when I adopted her, including the vet, thunderstorms and loud noises. When I first took her to Dr. Boyds the vet was extremely professional and very caring. They took the time to become acquainted with my pup, and even suggested doing any minor procedures in the exam room, such as shots, which was the perfect way to help my baby learn to trust again. The vet also recommended an anti-anxiety medication, which I am usually not a fan of medication, but it was such a good recommendation, as now when a thunderstorm approaches, or fireworks occur, I give my pup a tiny portion of the pill, and it really keeps her calm and relaxed, which has improved her quality of life and lowered her level of fear. I do not have to give her anti-anxiety medication for every former stressful situation, as she is much more confident, trusting and relaxed, thanks to the vet’s understanding of canine anxiety and knowing how to encourage trusting in all situations. She is now very comfortable seeing the vet and loves other people and dogs. Fearful dogs need extra care and attention to help them feel at ease, and that is what I was provided during the office visit and continued care. I highly recommend Dr. Boyds vet services as I have experienced nothing but excellent care and expert medical practices, which provide numerous options on the various medical/pharmaceutical options available, giving me many choices. I applaud the doctors at Dr. Boyd’s, keep up the excellent work and thank you!

We brought our dog here to stay for a few days while we were away. He had to stay in seclusion which should have been fine since They told us he would be taken out every two hours and played with and cared for. When we brought him and handed him over the staff tried to pick him up right away and he snapped at them because he was not comfortable or ready. If the staff here is consistently handling animals they should be well versed in boundaries and giving the dog time to adjust before being grabbed but that did not happen. We were not sent photos as promised and we could not view our dog on the webcams because he was in seclusion. We were also not able to view the area he would be in, we were told that was not possible because of “insurance purposes” which is a blatant lie. If you are not able to be privy to every corner of a facility then do NOT bring your animal there, hard lesson learned by us.When we came back to get our dog they went to bring him out of the back and it was taking an unusually long amount of time. So long that the front desk guy went to check what was happening. TWENTY MINUTES passed and they brought our dog out and he was disheveled and scared and acting a way that I have never seen from him. It was clear that he had been severely neglected and the time spent going to get him was used to calm his little scared body so he could be brought out to us. They gave no reason as to why it took so long to bring him out even when we asked. We found a cut on his arm after we got home and were again offered no explanation or reason as to why he had a cut. It took a week for our dog to get back to his regular self. That is not normal. This place may look professional because of the size and grandeur of the facility but beware. The staff can’t answer questions and are either lacking skills or hiding something. We will NEVER go back to this place and will actively warn others about it.

Her assessment and plan were spot on, and within a few days, our dog was feeling so much better. The staff here has been wonderful, and I even got to meet Dr. Wesson in passing — he was very friendly and knowledgeable. I feel so grateful to have found such a great veterinary practice. Thank you so much, Dr. Malehorn and the rest of the Dr. Boyd’s staff!

I am so impressed with Dr. Boyds. It is a great facility with very caring doctors and staff.I specifically went to Dr. Boyds to see Dr. John Wesson, who I followed here from his previous location. He is a vet who has cared for my dog, Tucker, for 5 years. (I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Dr. Boyds for a year so that we could see him again!) I completely trust Dr. Wesson with the care of my 11 year old dog, who is very anxious and has an advanced heart murmur. He is incredibly caring with animals, and he is so helpful to me as a pet owner, as well. Of all of the vets that my dog has seen in his 11 years (in three different states), I trust Dr. Wesson above all. When I went to Dr. Boyds to see Dr. Wesson today, he was still just as fantastic with Tucker. Tucker was not exactly thrilled to be there, and is not comfortable with most people. Dr. Wesson was careful to give him the time and space he needed to get used to the situation. We even moved into a much larger space in the back for the exam so that Tucker could feel less enclosed. We were able to meet with the trainer while we were there, to talk about a plan for Tuckers anxiety. We even made it through the dreaded nail trim relatively easily (with the help of a lot of Cheez Whiz!). By the end of the visit, Tucker was even approaching Dr. Wesson on his own. What I really loved is that the staff members were all working together to help Tucker, from not only the medical aspect, but also the behavioral. It was all about what was best for Tucker. Everyone there was exceptionally friendly and warm. I highly recommend Dr. Boyds!

I love this place. Even more importantly, our two little dogs love it, too! The front desk staff is very attentive and friendly and Dr. Katie Malehorn, the vet, is wonderful. Weve left our dogs there several times since January while traveling and Ive always felt confident that they would be very well cared for. Between all the loving attention they receive, playtimes during the day and available live streaming for the parents, Dr. Boyds is our boys home away from home!!

I came to Dr. Wesson for a second opinion after a dozen or more highly-trained vets at Friendship Hospital for Animals in DC refused to acknowledge that my cat had a GI disease and kept telling me for nearly a year that everything that was wrong with her was normal. Dr. Wesson thoroughly reviewed her records before our appointment and within minutes of hearing me tell her story performed an ultrasound and diagnosed her with advanced IBD (among a laundry list of other concerning issues that presumably came about due to the IBD going untreated for so long). He quickly came up with a treatment plan for her and his team rehydrated/fed/medicated her in the office in the intervening days while we waited for her prescriptions to be compounded at an outside facility.Unfortunately, we didnt even get to start the home treatment plan--by the time we met Dr. Wesson, my poor kittys condition was already dire. He and his team (along with the emergency facility next door) did whatever they could, but it was too late to stop her rapid decline and she unfortunately didnt make it.Dr. Wesson and his team were immensely caring and compassionate and while my kitty was sick they did everything to make her comfortable being in this new and unfamiliar place--one of the technicians, Uncle Dan, even sang to her while she was being prepped for the ultrasound! I was duly impressed by how everyone treated us, and in particular by Dr. Wessons thoroughness. He brought me into the ultrasound room and walked me through everything he was seeing in real time so I could be fully informed, rather than delivering a complicated jargon-filled summary after the fact like some vets have done in the past. After she passed, I needed to stop by again to return the prescription food she never got to eat, and Dr. Wesson came to speak to me about what happened. He was clearly upset about the whole situation and was right there with me in my sadness and frustration about the care she had received before coming to him. He took a great deal of time out of his day to talk with me and help me process what happened, demonstrating great kindness and compassion.I have only known him briefly, but in that time he has shown a notably higher standard of care than the fancy hospital we came from, and hes also shown me that he truly cares for his patients. When Im ready for another cat, Ill definitely be coming back.

I used to like this place (and it was my first choice whenever I had to take my dog for boarding), but we had a bad experience the last time he stayed there. Several weeks later, I tried to leave him again for boarding and they refused the service to my dog unless we remove the bad review that we had originally posted because of the incident that happened.

I have an older cat who doesn’t have a mean bone in her body and the staff at Boyd’s was as sweet as she is! She normally makes little noises with me, but when I took her to other vets she would be too scared to move or make a sound. At Boyd’s she was comfortable enough to walk around make her noises! And the staff was super attentive and really cared about her wellbeing. I’m never going anywhere else!

If you’re lucky enough to live in the area to take your pup here, do it. They have such nice staff and caring vets, I had no worries leaving my babies here for daycare. When the weather is nice the pups can also go outside (mind you, it’s not a big area but it’s still nice to have in a city where that’s rare). The vets are amazing, they are on top of vet science and technology. Dr. Wesson has helped me with my pitts sensitive stomach and my minpins diabetes. His appointments are always thorough, and you leave feeling you not only learned more but have options or a solution. He’s always available to his patients and has an incredible bedside manner with our furbabies. Highly recommend them!
