As a first time mom, I could not have asked for a more thorough and positive experience. The providers are fantastic and I was especially thankful for Dr. Rush and Dr. Yoon! At this point I’ve moved out of state and am pregnant with my second. I wish I was back in Raleigh in the care of these wonderful providers. Highly recommend!!

My experience here has been excellent for GYN and OB care. This is my second pregnancy, and I have to say Dr.Bird is one of the most thorough and caring people I have ever met. I have seen other doctors in this location as well, and they have all been wonderful. Also, I cant say enough about the nursing staff. They are so quick, efficient, and friendly. I am so lucky to have these ladies to help me through my pregnancy!

Everyone at Kamm McKenzie has been amazing! Dr. Rush did an amazing job delivering our son, as did Dr. Byrd performing the circumcision. Every single nurse was delightful and prompt when returning my calls about test results, or after delivery when I had mastitis. The receptionists were also very helpful with scheduling and explaining the billing. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone expecting, and plan to use them again if we have another child.

I’ve gone to Kamm McKenzie for about 10 years, and seen several different providers, and have to say my experience has been mixed. They are very good about working in same day appointments which has been extremely helpful at times (uti’s anyone?), and the Durant Rd location is new, clean, and beautiful. On the downside, ever since I decided I did not want to take oral contraceptives, I feel I have been borderline pressured toward taking them again. When I considered stopping them, the doctor did not offer me advice on lifestyle habits that could help me off the pill, and clearly thought I should stay on them, although she did verbally say it was up to me. When I returned after a year of being off the pill and doing fine, I was asked multiple times if I didn’t want to be on hormonal birth control, having to reiterate my stance, sometimes more than once to the same person. it made me wonder what kind of incentives they were getting to convince women to take the pill. I can honestly say I have been much happier off the pill. At my most recent visit I saw a new provider, who didn’t seem to listen to my account of my diet and lifestyle at all before recommending which supplements I should be taking.I have had better experiences as well where the doctors did truly listen to me, but ultimately I never felt like anyone was particularly knowledgeable about my ongoing condition and mostly gave me generalized and indifferent advice. After doing a lot of research on my own, I realized they could certainly be doing a lot more to help patients like me.Oh well.

I decided on KM because of all the great reviews and because its close to my home. However, I am very frustrated already and am not even a patient there yet. I am about 8 weeks along and have been trying to make my first appointment with them for nearly a month. Before KM will allow you to schedule an appointment, they must receive AND REVIEW your medical records and accept you as a new patient first. Ill admit, there has been an issue with getting my records because of a third party vendor, which has nothing to do with KM and has been the cause for most of the delay ... still, I have NEVER had a medical provider require my records be reviewed first. I have only ever been asked to provide my insurance carrier information to be sure my insurance is accepted by the practice (which they didnt even ask about). Additionally, every other provider I have used obtained my records themselves after I signed a release. I am not sure why my records have to be reviewed first, but it is very off-putting. You are either accepting new patients, or you arent. If it has something to do with high risk pregnancies, they could easily ask me a few questions over the phone to gauge whether reviewing my records is even necessary. I have also had trouble getting through to the appointment scheduler and have called and called on certain days with no answer. I need to be able to scheduled my appointments as far out in advance as possible because I have a very busy work schedule and KM has limited hours. At this point, I am worried about being able to schedule an appointment before the end of my first trimester. I may just have to go with a different OBGYN. This has been a really unfortunate experience.

I had one of those natural, no-drug, hippie birth plans and births and the doctors were all so supportive of how I wanted to labor. I wanted things to be low-key and they helped me to experience the birth I planned for--no drugs, low lights, eating and drinking during labor, the whole bit. No resistance from any of the doctors at the practice and Dr. Rush, who delivered the baby, was equally supportive. Highly recommend.

I feel like my needs are met every single time. I felt extremely comfortable coming in each OB visit and was excited for the staff to meet my baby after he was born. I look forward to my visits, which was not always true at previous practices. I will be a Kamm McKenzie patient for as long as the practice is around!

At my 30 week appointment in January of 2015, we discovered that my baby no longer had a heartbeat. I was at the appointment by myself and was in absolute shock. Dr. Wheeler held my hand through the ultrasound, and waited with me until my husband was able to come to the office. She took her time with us, and explained what to expect with the induction process. Dr. Bass was expecting us as we arrived at the hospital. He was so compassionate while answering all of our questions and took great care of us. After getting discharged, the doctors followed up with me to see how I was doing emotionally. I felt that they really cared about me and my loss.Luckily, I got pregnant a couple months later. Dr. Wheeler sat down with me and we came up with a plan on how to approach this pregnancy, including non-stress tests, frequent office visits, and getting induced. Every doctor I saw throughout my pregnancy really took their time with me and made sure that I was doing okay, and that my nerves were calmed by the time I left the office. Dr. Byrd delivered my rainbow baby in November, and I could not have asked for a better experience. She was fantastic!I am so grateful for the care that I received during the worst, and best times of my life.

After my first pregnancy with another practice I decided to switch OBs b/c the old practice was not supportive of natural birth and the practice was so big there was no personal connection. I have been very happy with KM from day 1. Their doctors are top notch and the nurses and office staff are amazing. I am one to want the best of the best for health care and for the delivery of my children and I think I have found it here. I had a natural birth with KM and felt very supported throughout the process. With another pregnancy with complications the doctors have gone above and beyond to make sure I am getting the best care possible for myself and the baby and support me emotionally as well.

I like the doctors and nurses. They are knowledgeable and helpful. But the appointment staff are really not so impressive. Sometimes there is no one pick up the phone, just keep patient on hold. Before I made an appointment, I talked to the nurse and she was very helpful trying to make me see the doctor I saw before. But when I making the appointment, the front staff kept on referring me to nurse practice and telling me your situation you can see anyone. I updated my information to the nurse, thats why she was trying to schedule me with my old doctor. I am surprised that appointment staff without acknowledging my information just telling me can see anyone?! This could be better....

I was so happy to find a website that was so thorough and provided so much information with a personal touch. I for sure thought that my experience with them would be phenomenal. Boy was I wrong. I couldnt even schedule an appointment. I had the right insurance, but there seemed to be an issue with how many weeks I was saying I was and I was told I had to talk to a nurse first. When the nurse called she sounded confused why I needed to talk to her and after asking me some questions (while sounding friendly, I will give her that) became condescending, chastising and so unhelpful. She made me feel terrible and that I was not welcome there. I did tell her if they did not want to see me, I had plenty of other offices to choose from to which she replied okay. She ended with an offer for me to call back the next morning to see if I could get in, and when I didnt reply in the affirmative she wished me a friendly good luck (?!) I dont know the woman, I have been trying hard to not judge her personally, but that spoke volumes to me about their business. I will never call Kamm McKenzie OB/GYN again, let alone be seen by them and trust them to take care of me and my baby. Contrary to their website, new patients are not always welcome.

I came to Kamm McKenzie for my first baby at the recommendation of my friend who is a labor and delivery nurse (she said all of the nurses at the hospital go to them). I was able to get to know several of the doctors and nurses at KM pretty well during my pregnancy. They are all great. Dr Wheeler delivered my son and was awesome-kind, gave me my options but never pressured me, was calm and stayed late in her shift to help me deliver. She is who you would want in an emergency. Dr. Byrd is the sweetest ever-loved her-she is a favorite of the nurses and I see why. Dr. Kalinowski helped me one night when I had to go to the ER because my baby hadn’t moved in a few hours (he ended up being just fine)-she put my mind at ease. She also did my son’s circumcision. Dr. Smith was the doc who admitted me to the hospital. He has a great sense of humor and is super chill and calm. Dr. Yoon was fantastic as well. He is very personable and made it a point not only to get to know me but to get to know my husband as well. I’m sure the other docs are great too-I just didn’t get to know them as well. When choosing where to deliver your baby I would say take a good look at the hospital first. For the most part, you are going to be spending your time with the nurses. The docs come in maybe once or twice for a few min to say hi and if there is anything wrong but besides that you are only going to see them at the very end of your labor. The nurses at wake were awesome. I also went with Wake because they have lower c-section rates than other hospitals, low infection rates, and have one of the best NICUs (they get babies from other hospitals and I liked the idea that if I needed a NICU-I was already at the best one). My experience at the hospital was great. My only slight complaints or constructive feedback are 1. The food they bring to your room isn’t great at Wake, but the cafeteria food is good so I just went down there and got my meals-which actually was kinda nice cause it got me out of the room. 2. The rooms are a little smaller and the couch for the husbands is pretty bad comfort wise. 3. With KM there were a couple of times where the nurses told me different info than the doctor. Not anything major or super important-just could have been more on the same page on a couple of occasions. Overall, I would hands down recommend KM and Wake and will be back for all my kids. I went to KM today for my post partum and was actually sad not to have to go back weekly. Who in their right mind misses being pregnant and going to their OB?!

Everyone was courteous and friendly- as usual. I was called back promptly for vital signs- as usual. If you are a new patient, be aware that every expectant mother is rotated among each OBs for each new office visit. Thats my only concern- though a minor one. I wish I could be assigned to one OB and one OB only. Oftentimes, I have to re-explain the same questions and answers. As state earlier, though, this is only a minor concern. From the way the rotation concept was explained to me, the reason is because there is no guarantee which OB will deliver the baby when the time comes. Therefore, KM doctors prefer all expectant moms to be familiar with all the office OBs and vice versa. The concept makes sense, but still...

This is my first pregnancy with Kamm McKenzie, second pregnancy for me. There is a lot that I have forgotten in the past 5 years though! Kamm McKenzie is great, the doctors seem very knowledgeable and the staff has been over-all very accommodating and genuine.Ive read most of the reviews on this site and agree and disagree with some of the complaints.1. At first the front desk staff did seem a bit abrasive and un-welcoming, but that changed the more that I came to the office, so maybe that first experience was just a bad day?2. I read a couple reviews with frustrated ladies regarding the first appointment date etc. I couldnt remember for anything when the first day of my last period was, over a month ago at least and I cant remember back that far. BUT I knew that I took a test on ___ and it was negative, then I took a test two weeks later and it was positive, so that gave the nurse an idea. She wasnt condescending or aggravated with me, she just helped me narrow down some dates so again, maybe some of the other reviewers caught a nurse on a bad day.3. MY biggest complaint with both locations is the wait time for the doctors. I typically schedule the first appointment time in the morning and I cant figure out why Im waiting in the rooms for over 20 mins (on at least two occasions) for the doctor to come in, Ive started to bring a book. There is no apology for making me sit there for 20 mins either, I have to work a full time job and a family and try to schedule in doctor appointments, my time is extremely valuable, I dont appreciate waiting when we have a mutually agreed upon time that both parties can meet to see each other. This is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5.I would still highly recommend them as Im new in the area and they came highly recommended to me.

I joined this practice when I moved to NC. I was 20 weeks pregnant at the time and they were one of few offices who were willing to take someone that far long (yes I did have care where I lived prior... but most offices didnt care and didnt want someone beyond their first trimester). By far and large I was treated very well. They make you see different doctors at your appointments each time so that you know the entire staff by the time you have the baby. That makes sense to me b/c you never know who will deliver. Well... my favorite was Dr Bernstein. Also quite fond of Rush and Wheeler. I did not by any means like Dr. Harden. He was very nasty with me and cannot take a joke at all. I told my husband that I did not want Dr. Harden delivering our baby. Well... of course he was the Dr at the hospital when I went into labor and was equally rude to me during the labor. But... that aside... she was delivered safely... and is a beautiful healthy girl. Honestly... my experience with Dr. Harden aside... the office treated me with such great care. I had a miscarriage prior to that pregnancy and was super scared of every odd feeling I had. No questions asked... they always brought me right in. Id leave a message on the nurses line... theyd call back pretty fast... and Id be in the office same day. They were very patient with my fears... always took the time to thoroughly explain everything. I couldnt have asked for more. I even got great care after my pregnancy from one of their nurses who followed up with me for months and months to make sure I was doing ok. Id definitely recommend this practice to others.

It all started in June 2014, I found out I was pregnant through home pregnancy tests and knew I needed to schedule an appointment. I called Kamm McKenzie OB/GYN because they were the closest place to my home. I went to the location on Durant road mostly. When I called them they told me that I would not have my first appointment until 9 weeks so I said OK. It was my first time being pregnant I did not know anything about procedures or what have you. I began telling my friends (they have multiple children) about my appointment and they said that 9 weeks sounded really late for an appointment. I still did not think anything of it. It was finally appointment time and my boyfriend and I got the whole Your Having a Baby initiation process that they do. We were both very excited. They we went to the ultrasound room only to find out that our baby had no heart beat. It turns out the baby had stopped developing at 6 weeks but my placenta had continued to grow and be healthy, which the doctor said was abnormal. The nurses then ran my HCG levels to make sure it was a miscarriage and it was. My body was unable to have a natural miscarriage so I had to have a chemically induced one. The doctor called me and told me I could pick up the prescription and take the pills and then everything would come out but I would have to call out of work because it was a lengthy process. I did everything I was told and went through hell for 3 days and then I thought everything was over. This all happened in September 2014 and I was never told that I needed a follow up visit. Flash forward to December 2014 My period had started normally in October 2014 but did not stop so I went to the Kamm McKenzie OB/GYN again in the first week of December 2014. It turns out the pills for the chemically induced miscarriage had not worked completely and I was still carrying parts of my placenta and fetus inside me. This almost set up an infection that could have killed me so the day I went in to see why my period was lasting so long they scheduled an emergency DNC. I was told the surgery would take place at noon and I was not allowed to eat so my boyfriend and I went straight to the hospital to get prepped for surgery. I was in inpatient from noon until 11:30 pm when the doctor from Kamm McKenzie finally got to me. The surgery took around 45 minutes then everything was on to recovery road from there. this entire ordeal cost me almost 2 months of missed work as well as $7000 in medical expenses as well as an unexpected $500 bill that Kamm McKenzie OB/GYN forgot to send me until June 2015. All of this could have been prevented if they would have just told me I needed a follow up appointment after I took the pills to chemically induce my miscarriage.TL;DR: I almost died because they did not tell me I needed a follow up appointment after my miscarriage.

Kamm Mckenzie is a load of crap. I have been with them for 4 out of my 9 miscarriages. Every time I am pregnant I call them to get in for my hcg levels and all they want to do is schedule me for the long 9 week appt. I have had a ectopic pregnancy. So this is considered high risk pregnancy. I am always transferred to the nurses line which no one ever answers. I get call backs eventually. Usually I miss carry in the first 2 weeks after I found out I am pregnant. Trying to find out answers or figure someway not to is like pulling a rabbit out of a hat with these people. They are very impersonal, they made me feel like I am wasting their valuable time and to boot I get to pay 30 dollars each time. They always want to schedule a consult where they tell me the only thing we can find wrong with you is your over weight maybe that will help you get pregnant if you loss weight. I am so sick of these people at both practices and refuse to give them any more money so they can pay for their BMWs.

I moved to Wake Forest, NC in August of 2014. I was looking for a OB in the area. I moved from GA and loved who I saw there, so I was not to excited to find a new OB. I called the office to make an appointment for what I thought was a UTI. The receptionist answered and I was informed that I could not be seen until I scheduled my annual. This was in February and I was not scheduled to have my annual until April. So they expected me to be super uncomfortable and deal with it for two months. I decided to go to urgent care and was given medication to deal with what was a UTI immediately. It then was time to schedule my annual and all of my friends in NC went to Kamm McKenzie or another office that was 30 minutes away. I decided to give them another try. I went in, and they were nice and quick. I was given a pregnancy test for safe measures at my request and it was negative. I was going on three weeks late at this point. The next week I began to show many signs of pregnancy, and still havent had my period that was normal to me. I mean I am on birth control, I have around the clock periods, and they are always the same. I know my body and knew something wasnt right. My husband bought me 2 ept test. I took the first one and initially it came up negative. I walked away and came back and it was positive. Yes, after the time frame, but Im not a nurse nor do I know anything about pregnancy, so I was concerned. I took a second one that was negative. I called a friend who works at a pediatricians office and ask her. She stated my hCG level could possibly be low and I should take another. She told me it may not show up right away because of that. The next morning, I used a first response test. I was told that at any time if the test showed a positive line that I was pregnant. Well, initially again it came up negative. My husband came into the bath room and there was a faint positive line. So he was concerned and ask that I call the doctors office, so that I could get assistance. Being 22 and 8 1/2 hours from my family, I was looking for someone to just inform me what could be going on. The Friday before memorial day, I called the office, (before the closing time). Someone answer the phone and said abruptly Are you calling with an after hour emergency. Not sure that I was calling the right office I said excuse me. She said again ARE YOU CALLING WITH AN AFTER HOUR EMERGENY. I said um no? She said Well, your going to have to call back next week, they are gone for the day. Needless to say, I called back Tuesday leaving a message with a nurse who called me back and stated that I need to leave a message with a different kind of nurse. So I did. The OB nurse called me back and made me feel like a complete idiot stating that there is a reason why the instruction give you a time frame on a pregnancy test. She also told me that the spotting I had 3 weeks ago was probably my period. Maybe I am ignorant, but I know what my period is like each month, and that one was not normal. In conclusion, if you are young and uneducated as two everything that should or shouldnt happen when you may or may not be pregnant. You may want to find a different office to walk through those questions with you. If you do deicide to call this office, be prepared to be interrupted in your explanations, feel like a complete idiot, and like a big waste of time to their life. I believe I will be going somewhere else.
