Do not send your loved ones here. Unacceptable conditions. My mother came here as a 4th choice. Found a used dirty depends on the floor next to her bed. I came in another day and she was laying in her own filth. The food is inedible. I don’t even recognize what it is supposed to be. I took 3 days for her 1st physical therapy session. The administration is defensive and are more concerned their own feelings than they are about patients’ needs. When confronted about their empty promises, I slipped an f bomb and that was their main concern; not any of the above issues. The photo is of her robe that they allow her to sleep in. Apologies to anyone offended by photos of feces, unless you are an employee at this facility. Google really needs to have a zero stars option.

My mother has received wonderful, care and concern from the staff at this facility. Everyone has been helpful and given her a lot of attention Thru this horrible time. It is very hard to have a parent in a facility at this time but knowing the staff is on top of the situation and working so hard is wonderful. Thank you all for everything you do!

This place is terrible. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE! My mother has dementia and had a fall where she fractured her shoulder. She was sent to this rehab center and the second night she was there they found her on the floor after me advising them that she was a fall risk because she tries to get out of bed alone. They are short-staffed and there is NO communication with the family once the patient is admitted and they get the insurance money. I was always wary about places like rehab centers and nursing homes and my biggest fear came true. The day she was transferred to the rehab floor an hour after I left the nurse called me that my mom was trying to get out of bed and she wouldnt listen after I had told them this is what my mom does when she is in an unfamiliar place. She told me she was the only nurse on the floor with 40 patients. I told her that that sounded like a problem she needed to take up with her supervisors, not me. After I went and demanded to speak to a supervisor they admitted they were ill-equipped to handle dementia patients and they transferred her back to the hospital where she is able to have a 1:1. I would give this place no stars if I could.

If I could’ve given 0 stars I would have. This place is terrible. They have two of the rudest young ladies ever sitting at the front desk when you come in. They are not helpful. They sit around and negatively discuss the family members coming in to see the patients. The nursing staff that I’ve encountered is rude. They allowed my family member who can not use her hands to sit in there for almost a week and not eat or drink. I overheard a CNA hurt one of the other patients while changing her. She wasn’t even apologetic. Her response was “you’re fine. It’s fine.” I would not advise you to send anyone there ever. But if you do have a family member or friend there go see them often or you may be sorry.

I have to say this is the worst run place as it looks decent on the outside. They have one aide on at night and one doctor who isnt on site as they have to call in case of am emergency. They do have an intern on at night as my nanny had a stroke and they couldnt regulate her meds. I complained about the care and went to their office and saw 8 people billing medicare and medicaid more than the staff. Humm. This is a for profit center and I can tell you the money is not going toward care. I moved her to a non profit center and wow what a difference. I wish i knew the difference before as she lost 80 percent of her brain due to their bad care. They did have the sweetest intern nurse on at night who looked 22 and the same for the intern doctor on call.

My mother has experience with other centers for rehab, nothing comparable with this terrible place she was placed to this particular rehab because of her cardiologist and appointments she had in city. I took her out from this horrible place , we had very bad experience, poor care, rudeness, ignorance beyond description!!! They left my mother dirty and with many bedsores. When I asked to have something done they never listen and they are rude and disrespectful. They didn’t want to discharge my mother and we’re trying to keep her against her and my wishes. I just spent my 4th rehab stay at the Upper East Side Rehab facility. LOOK NO FURTHER for your rehab needs. With the rarest exception, the aides and administrative staff are responsive, caring and cheerful! I always felt they were my allies! Amy, Evelyn, Judy, John, Andy, Arroyo, Richard, Rita and others made me feel like I was welcome and part of the UES family. The food was absolutely great! As soon as I left my room for therapy or other reasons, someone came and re-made my bed. As odd as it may seem, I really hated to leave the Center. I have chatted with many friends over the years about their experiences with a wide variety of rehab centers in the New York City area. I would not hesitate a minute about recommending this Center for rehab. Congratulations to everyone there for providing a fantastic home away from home for all of us who have rehab needs!

This place is the most fabulous place that there is. My father spent his last months of life in the care of the most loving, knowledgeable, meticulous people. I will forever be grateful to the director, Scott Mair, and his amazing staff. The nurses are so kind and experienced. I especially love Stacey and Jess. The therapies are wonderful. The speech therapist, Allison, is beyond committed to her work and the kindest soul. My family and I made a friend for life.We went through the most difficult few months with Covid on top of everything else. Upper Eastside Rehab made it all the best it could be. The activities department, Irina and Alla. The assistant director, June. The social worker, Keisha. I could go on and on. The aides, the front desk, everyone! I can’t thank UES enough! They didn’t set the limit for the TV volume in the double room, allow the patient to increase the volume as loud as they want, which disturbs the visitors. It’s unbelievable! This facility is by far, the worse. The website pictures are a fraud. The staff falls short in every respect. You can definitely see that if you can pay for your care the treatment is night and day.Let me start by stating that my uncle was admitted for physical therapy and by Day 20, he had not even visited the gym. The facility claims to have services for dementia patients. They do not nor do they recognize when a patient is agitated due to the illness or is combative. My uncle waited two and half weeks to see a urologist which was part of the reason he had been hospitalized, bad kidneys. When I would arrive for an evening visit, since i work, there would be no Nurse to be seen and the patients were outside of their respective rooms yelling, wandering the halls, soiled, arguing among themselves. The rooms are roach infested and are not cleaned unless you call to have them swept or mopped. The social workers are only interested in getting payment for work they do not do. The food is disgusting and no one cares. I tried several times to get updates from different staff (rehab, social workers, nurses) and was always met with annoyance or no return phone calls. I wouldnt send my loved one here for even a hangnail.

I arrived at Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on December 23, 2018. And from the first moment, I was made to feel very comfortable . The facility is exemplary in every way , from the state of the art gym to the outstanding staff. While everyone on my floor was efficient and courteous , I found myself especially fortunate to be under the wing of JUN , the patient advocate . Amy the charge nurse , Linda and Claudia my aides. Jun kept everything running smoothly , he calmly and efficiently managed every problem with a sense of humor . Second only to the lovely staff was cleanliness of the facility . The patients rooms were mopped everyday , maintenance operated like a well oiled machine . Meals and activities were always on time . The entire day was filled with physical and an occupational therapist. When I arrived before Christmas, I could not walk on my own, but by New Years I was using a walker like a pro . Within a month , I could walk with or without a cane . Im only one example of the excellent rehabilitation UESRNC offers , and painstakingly accomplish .

Upon arrival at UESRNC as a covid19 survivor, I was gripped with fear and vulnerability . As the time went on thru the loving support of the RNS , CNAS , and other staff , I was made to feel cared for and supported . As time went on , and I received my daily PT and OT, that fear and vulnerability changed to strength and confidence. I was unable to walk when I arrived , and as time passed, thru my PT/OT and staff on the floor , I was able to walk independently . This accomplishment took hard work on my part and also the encouragement of everyone in the facility. Although , many of the patients here are struggling , ALL the staff are joyous , happy and filled with encouragement .The administrative staff and SW , were readily available to my family during my stay. Because of the love that permeated thru everyone, It almost felt like home . I would like to acknowledge JUN , the patient advocate for his daily visits , which were upbeat ,he makes me smile all the time.

Most importantly, the greater part of the professional staff seems competent and compassionate, courteous and caring and, on the basis of my experience with them, I would be inclined to give the place 4 or 5 stars. However: The residential rooms are a bit dreary with no decoration and very little surface on which to put personal belongings. There seems to be little encouragement of the residents to socialize with each other notwithstanding group activities, and little inclination among residents to interact. For example meals may be taken in ones room or the dining room. When I visited, the dining room drew only about 15 people for dinner. I would suggest that there might be a dining table for those seeking conversation with others. Perhaps most importantly, the planning and quality of the meals seems deficient. Most of the residents know that they neither hear nor see as well as they used to, but they can still taste. It should be easy to cater to this still vibrant sensibility, but the food is uninteresting, and the meals designed to be inexpensive. They are invariably served luke-warm at best, and tea and coffee is tepid. Support issues appropriately raised are apparently pursued (i.e., there is lots of good will) but often with significant delays. A phone in my mothers room did not work properly for over four days before we got it switched out. Until then her cardiologist could not reach her. Residents are asked, after arrival, to sign a contract, presented on a tablet, and characterized by a staff member in a few sentences. But it includes 26 pages of fine print. That agreement should be provided in hard copy before arrival. To their credit, the facility professes to be amenable to reasonable amendments but most people will not ask for a copy or read the document before signing - and it is typically overreaching. Therapy (both occupational and physical) are promised for two hours each week day. Those seem to be like psychiatric therapeutic hours - short by 10-15 minutes. Residents apparently have to demand the promised services in order to get them. However some of the therapists seem more interested in socializing than in servicing the residents needs. No therapy is offered on weekends and, given the average age of a resident, that is a reason for significant losses in therapeutic progress.

My experience with the Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center was a very short one. I visited a friend who was there on Christmas Day. I did not interact with anyone else, because the receptionists directions on how to find my friend was on point. When I got to the room, they were making my friends bed. The room seemed a little small. There were two beds in the room. My friend was at the one away from the door, and another patient was being helped into a wheelchair. It just seemed crowded with only four people and two wheelchairs. But other than that, the place seemed clean and the people seemed pleasant. I did not interact with any of the nurses.

Spent 13 days and nights in the facility after eight in Lenox Hospital ICU after heart surgery. Cannot speak to nursing home conditions, except to note that there seem to be a good variety of activities, but for short term there are pluses and minuses. The rehab is what gets the place its reputation, deservedly. Otherwise, Im not enthusiastic, though I cannot say how it it is in other places. I had almost no direct attention from my assigned doctor, but my roommates came a number of times. The two RNs on the floor seemed not enough for the number of patients they cared for; they often took too long to respond, while shift changes and nighttime breaks seemed to take forever. The great majority of the aides, all women, are caring and hard working, but a few are not in good physical condition and seemed to struggle at times with the more demanding tasks. All seemed to pay good attention to sanitary routines. The food was routinely lousy (the hospitals was much better), and I was a little surprised aides were expected to deliver and clear the trays; they had enough to do, and the food was not always hot. My biggest complaints were the bed, which was very uncomfortable, and the wheelchair that was my only place to sit during the day, which was not my size and had malfunctioning footrests; after a while it also became very uncomfortable.

Care givers of patients and Patients who take care if their own financial affairs, please make sure you know what your insurance covers. I just got a call from an admissions rep that wanted me to give them permission to take my parent off of their Medicare HMO so that they could enroll her in regular Medicare to garauntee payment for her care at the Facility without knowing if her current insurance would deny or approve an extra 1 to 2 week stay for sub acute care. So, I asked why didnt they call the insurance and check to see if they would get an extension due to medical necessity? To make along story short, I called my Parents insurance and was told that medicare covers up to 100 days of short term rehab for the year. And found out that the insurance carrier has been trying to a contact the facility to get the exact date if my Parents admission to the facility. This was very interesting to me. How come no one in the billing Dept of the facility knew this basic information? So, beware . . . Know what your insurance covers before you get talked into doing something completely unnecessary as for bill payment. Over all this Facility is decent, but they have sly little tricks in there mix!

My mom has a very good memory and what she said scared her. the woman was lying. i talked to a friend who told me they did that to their family member too who was in this same hospital- blamed the patients memory issues for forgetting they saw the psychologist. this is a cruel thing to do to any elderly person. why gaslight and lie and in the process make the patient scared? how do they sleep at night?i also asked the nurses for a band aid when i was there and it took them a half hour to find one. There are very kind nurses here and also PT people...but their practices in the social work psychology dept is not only cruel but dangerous.

I arrived at Upper East Side nursing on Feb. 18, to receive rehab treatment after my most recent surgery. I have to say that the place is immaculate, the housekeeping man was busy night and day making sure my floor was as clean as can be. I never waited more than a few minutes for a nurse to respond when i needed something and the staff working on the night shift couldnt be sweeter. Also I just want to say that the physical therapists deserve an award for their patience and hard work. It would be nice to have a little more variety when it comes to the food but compared to one of my past experiences at another facility, Upper East was a breath of fresh air! p.s. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the entire staff on the 12th floor for a surprise birthday concert (They actually came to my room with a keyboard and balloons to sing Happy Birthday)

Impressed with overall cleanliness & pleasant personalities of RN & aides. The only element not deserving of 10 score is time patients sometimes must wait for assistance, food replacement & service. Unfortunately, many rehab & care facilities are really understaffed.

My aunt was admitted here from the hospital after suffering a possible stroke. She had no adverse symptoms other than some weakness. She had bathroom privileges with assist. Imagine my horror hearing that she called for assist in the evening and was told by a pca, nurse tech or whatever they are called in this place that she had a pull up on and she should just pee herself. She was told this not once but on multiple occasions during the night shift. Both my mother and I are nurses and cannot believe that this behavior is acceptable in a facility such as yours. Your DON and CEO can expect a letter of complaint on behalf of my aunt and this will be reported to the Department of Health. Shame on your staff! They require retraining , better yet, they need to be fired as I understand my aunt was not the only one to be told this.

My grandmother stayed here for five weeks after fracturing her hip. She was no easy patient, after having suffered many strokes and becoming largely dependent on the aid of others. My mother picked this home because of its close proximity to ours. I have no doubt she had better quality of care at this nursing home than that of her own home.I had a traumatic fear of nursing homes when I was younger, but visiting this one put me at ease. Their staff people are so dedicated. Care is a really big issue today, for some more than others, and their patience and personal stories - among my conversations with them - make me admire them all the more. The facility is beautiful and well-decorated and there were a lot of activities scheduled for every taste.

Great workplace! Innovative and new technologies (i.e. Jintronix and Kore balance for advanced balance training!) used for Physical/Occupational Therapy makes the workplace interesting and more fun. Not to mention, the clientele is diverse and so is the staff, creating a culturally inclusive environment. The staff are nice and helpful to one another, working as a well oiled team. The Director of Rehab, Sushant, has been a great mentor and help in starting my career. If I ever have concerns/questions regarding the job, the rehab office is always willing to listen and take their time to sit down with you!

I Volunteered to visit an elderly person residing at this hospital. I was on the 8th Floor & the staff appeared to be ignoring the other elderly people’s basic needs. One man was shouting for a bed to sleep in for 2 hours. It was very sad. There was also another occasion when I walked into the day room on the 8th floor and a lot of the elderly residents were again being ignored when asking staff for simple help like getting to their rooms. Staff did not appear nor display any compassion on the 8th Floor. Very hurtful to watch.

The fourth floor of this facility is ridiculous. There is only one nurse, Lannie and one aide Mrs Le Lange that are really dedicated to their job. If its a floating aide or one of the others forget about it because they will not change the patients. There have been about 5 occasions where the patient I was visiting had a soaked diaper and he has only been at this facility for a month and a half. I would not recommend this place as a long term treatment center for anyone. The one plus side is the 2nd floor and the Physical and Occupational Therapists. They are all dedicated and really care about the patients and go out of their way for them.

My father spent four months there before dying there a few years ago. Obviously almost any nursing home is going to be a depressing place, and DeWitt was no exception. Some of the staff were extraordinarily kind and helpful; most were inattentive and a couple not nice at all. The biggest problems, as I recall, were the sheer physical ugliness of the rather cramped old building (narrow halls, low ceilings), an unusually slow elevator, and, most of all, the fact that the single physician in charge -- at least at that time, a young woman who had her own private practice elsewhere -- seemed to visit DeWitt only infrequently, a few days a week at most, would make quick, superficial rounds, and would not readily respond to my fathers individual questions and needs. It was like dealing with an unsympathetic government bureaucracy.

We were so looking forward to rehab as the next step before going home. However, after a 4 week stay in NY Presbyterian, my beloved Fred regressed the first week at UESRehabilitation and passed away at the end of the second week. I was very disappointed in the doctor (Klein) who never returned my calls but had one of his assistants call me. On the day Fred died, I had called him several times on his cell which he did not answer so I knew he was worse. Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. I called the nurses station about 5 or 6 times and no one ever answered the phone. Around 4 p.m. I called Dr. Kleins office and his assistant returned my call telling me what they had done for him during the day. And 20 mins. later a nurse called me to say he passed away. Just that. No one ever called me again. Edwin, the night aide, was fabulous as were most of the nurses but they are short staffed. And, as a Center, they lack compassion.

After my mothers heart surgery we did our research with the hospital social workers and were given a long list of choices for rehab centers in Midtown Manhattan. I did my research thoroughly and spoke to everyone. The only place that stood out was Upper East Side Rehab. I had multiple conversations with our contact Arkady who was incredible,. You could tell immediately that he truly cared about my mothers well being. That extended to the administration staff in their front office, including Jenn who was an unbelievable resource and also so caring and accommodating to us. Not to mention the floor staff who were remarkable, especially Eli who would stop by several times a day to check in on my mom when I wasnt there. I cant say enough good things about this place, no where is perfect, but this was the closest thing to being home and among people that care and want to help. I cant thank the staff enough for their help and support, my mother is out now and continues to talk about the great experience she had..Upper East Side put her back on her feet..Thank you all for going above and beyond and treating my mom the way I would.

My 91yr old Mother was transferred here after undergoing hip surgery & full replacement elbow surgery. At first I was very happy with the facility. The CNA’s & Nurses were lovely to my Mom. And then it turned for the worse. Her rehab was horrible. They had her handing from a hoyer lift for 6 weeks - a lazy way to move her.She still can’t walk, wasn’t trained to transfer from bed to chair, wasn’t trained to use a commode....nothing. But they got paid for a job not done.At the 6 week mark. they wanted her gone which we appealed because they were cutting her loose 4 weeks to early. Under Medicare she is entitled to 100 days. They knew they were discharging a risk patient and threatened that if I didn’t accept the hoyer lift which takes 2 medically trained people to navigate, they were going to send her home with no services - No Nurse, No Aide, No PT & OT. And when I objected and refused the liability they were shoving down my throat - the administrator said “Lady I didn’t pick up this call to get yelled out - we are done” and hung up on me.So I had to accept the hoyer lift to get her services and accepted an medically unsafe discharge.I now have to do their work at home. Potty train her on a commode which they didn’t provide because they never trained her. And I’m working to get her moving again. My two Medicare appeals were sadly denied and I just found out why. They forged her paperwork that was submitted to Medicare. They wrote she is able to walk 40 ft on her own while holding onto a wheelchair. That is a lie. Everything they put in her paperwork for the appeal contradicted her discharge papers. That is insurance fraud, perjury, lie, unethical behavior & elder abuse. I don’t care how long it takes but justice will be prevail. What they did to my Mom is a crimeDid I mention they broke her dentures and Christine - social worker wouldn’t agree to pay for them until she knew how much they would cost?

The elevators is this place are crazy, have to wait 20 minutes for an elevator every time I visit especially during peak hours, even more if a elevator is broken. They should have an elevator just for the patients. Whenever I try to bring my grandfather to the 17th floor or 3 floor for activities, its a gamble whether or not we will get an elevator that is not packed. He is in a wheelchair and can not squeeze in the elevator. The other day I tried to take him to the 17 th flloor for an activity and after waiting 20 minutes we gave up. He got very angry as he is in the early stages of dementia.

We went to Upper East Side with hopes of returning home after rehab and that we could work back to pre-surgery and pre-pneumonia capability. At the same time, we recognized that there was a large chance this was too much to expect and we were prepared for a potential downhill outcome.I’m happy to report that Upper East Side was a tremendous success from many standpoints and we have our patient home, healthy and improving. Ms. Marie Lamour, the Director of Nursing and the Social Work team continually checked in. Physical therapy had to work with him coming out of delirium, and Dr. Yurberg did a complete review of his prescriptions and she alone seems to have given him a new lease on life and eliminating drugs that were making Martin weaker rather than stronger. I’d also say meals were great as he had salmon twice a day and he always ate it.The net is that Martin is home and healthy and regaining all he had lost. Upper East Side was an excellent choice.
