I absolutely fell in love with this place. Sarah and Julie were so friendly and told us where the good hiking trails were. The fishing was great while we were here, there were many fly fishermen fishing the eddy. I love the Adirondack chairs set out where everybody gathers. Showers are available and there are clean pit toilets.

Caught my largest rainbow trout ever here, loved this place. Make sure to come prepared for the bugs when you come. Also double check the directions if using Google maps. We were taken down an extremely rough dirt road getting there. We took a much nicer dirt road on the way out.

Big Eddys CG is a primitive campground situated on the Penobscot River. There are several water spigots to fill up with water and there is electricity in the office if you need to charge up your phone. Also, the office has wifi so you can check your email or receive text messages. There are two showers available for use and cost $1.50.The fishing on Penobscot River is excellent and I learned how to fly fish during my stay. There is excellent hiking all around as well. The Golden Road is a rough road whether you are coming from Greenville or Millinocket, so please take your time and make sure you have all of your provisions as you dont want to venture down this road more than you have to.I will have to say I was more relaxed at this campground than I have been in a long time, I finished five books during my two-week stay. There are books and puzzles you may borrow in the office, along with organic coffee for purchase every morning. Firewood is also available for purchase.

Just fantastic. The staff is really nice and helpful. There are 2 showers (1.50$) and fresh water to fill up your water bottles. You can borrow canoes and other water activity equipment and enjoy the water. We were lucky to have a clear night and saw more stars than Ive ever seen in my life. It was overall wonderful.

Beautiful!!!!!! We will be back. The most peaceful, quiet (aside from the Big Eddy making its natural noises) place we have visited. Amazing views and the people were awesome! Thank you for your hospitality!

Just had a most wonderful & fun stay here this past weekend. Loved our cabin, comfortable mattresses, Great Coffee in the morning! - not even the slightest bit bitter, fishing on the banks of the west branch of the Penobscot River, which lulls you to sleep at night, a little slice of heaven

The staff are great here! We started our stay for two nights and it ended up into four nights. The high number camp sites across the river are great and give you a real forest enclosure to your campsite. Would highly reccomend for the family that wants to seek the outdoors, or the true hiker and wilderness seekers. All around great place

LOVE this campground. We’ve been going since 2007 and never disappointed. Just spent 5 days in the Eddy cabin and pleased to see the precautions they’re taking.

Went there in 2017. Great place, but wood is expensive, and its just cheap scrap wood. No actual split logs.Edit: went again in 2018 and there was split log firewood! Woohoo!

Fabulous campground. We went for the stargazing and ended up filling our time with incredible sights and naps by the fire. The campground is nestled into some woods 40 miles away from civilization. The dark skies were incredible but the river, mountains, and lakes were the real attraction. As if the location didnt already make this an incredible experience, the campground was simply excellent. We had a wonderful site across the river from the main camp with a semi-private area by the river, shade for most of the day, and far more space than two people needed. The coffee in the main building was hot, strong, and organic. You cant ask for more than that. There was a really peaceful sun room to drink the coffee in and all the maps you might need. The showers were hot and the solar arrays were impressive. The camp manager was an effective concierge and we got some great tips and chill conversation to boot. Really, he worked hard to make this an excellent experience for us and it showed. Hes a talented people-person and it seems like he really loves his job. Well done, sir.Overall, I recommend Big Eddy to anyone looking for a wilderness experience, but dont want to rough it too bad. I hear the fly fishing and hiking are incredible. I know the stars are brilliant. Come for the sights, stay for the coffee.💯

Grew up camping here... Every summer for 3 weeks at a time. Option for electric or non electric, showers, ect. Tent & campers. Nice staff. So close to wildlife.... Enjoy the bear visits, showering in the waterfalls close by, white water rafting, fishing, hiking mt. Katahdin, baxter state park, the beg. Or end ( in your opinion) of the Appalachian trail, and much much more! 💖
