In the Baxter State Park is so many places with parking, outside tables and cabins. Abol is one of close to the Gate - check point (6 miles distance). If you would like stay outside you can reserved the cabin - $32.00 per night. Restroom and fireplace are near the cabin. I counted 12 cabins at this Campground.
Super friendly staff. Very quiet and clean campsite
If you love hiking, make this a destination. Great campground for family and friends. Very clean and great people to help you out of you need anything at all. Mount katahdin is able to be seen from a decent amount of the campground. So many different trails and also swimming spots. You can find just about anything you would like to do within a short hike.
We parked at the campground to hike the Abol trail to Baxter Peak on Mt Katahdin. Plenty of parking and tables.
Beautiful falls and clean camping
Stayed in lean-to 7, an idillic setting situated next to bubbling Abol stream (much closer than the campground map would have you believe). Close but not too close to an outhouse. We loved the Little Abol Falls Trail that starts from the camp less than a mile to a small but beautiful waterfall. Fire wood was sold for $3 a bundle at the camp.
Cant find a single thing to complain about...love the staff, the locale, and there were hardly any bugs!
Beautiful campground
Amazing.
This is the best campsite to sumitt from, Lean-to s 5 6 7 8 all have running water 20 feet from the sites. Firewood is available at the Ranger station.Bring a propane stove to make coffee and cook.
Quiet campground, well tended and cared for.
Ranger roy was very nice
Clean well kept campground. Cleanest odor free outhouses I have encountered in 45 years of camping.
Great ranger lives here and maintains this campground. Nice campground, great staff.
All well-managed and clean but the lack of shower facilities weighed on the general feeling. Great access to trails and opposite access to food.
Clean !
Always well maintained and the setting is as natural as possible. Great trailhead to Katahdin summit. Only 4.6 miles up!
Secluded camping spot with tent sites and lean-tos inside Baxter state park right next to a stream that puts you to sleep after an amazing hike up to Baxter peak using the abol trail accessible from the campground. This is a leave no trace campground, so please respect the park rules in that regard. No running water (other than the stream) and outhouses for bathroom needs, make sure you pack in what you need. The ranger station sells wood for $3 a bundle as outside wood is prohibited in the park. Enjoy! Its a beautiful place.
Abol Campground, Our familys Home away from Home. The campsites are located right next to the Penobscot River with views of Mount Katahdin! The campground is professionally maintained with clean & easily accessible facilities! The free breakfast is always delicious. Our previous camping trip at Abol Campground involved an off-road adventure on The Golden Road. We encountered some serious brake issues (broken brake line) during our road trip, and LITERALLY rolled back to Abol Campground. The staff at Abol Campground called around for brake fluid & other needed parts, and helped repair our brakes until we could get back to Millinocket for full brake work.We never leave Abol Campground without a story of a Family Adventure!I recommended booking a reservation & begin your own family adventure... :)
Beautiful and isolated, not much else to say.
Camp is right in the middle
This is Maine.
I would have appreciated running water, otherwise its nice and clean.
