This hospital is part of the Jackson Memorial Hospital system. Most people I confer with state that they prefer to go to this particular hospital. Being that it is a teaching hospital, many of the doctors/nurses are very dedicated and esteemed in their specialties. The interns are very dedicated and treat the patients with the knowledge and care their mentors have instilled in them professionally. You definitely receive the proper care for whatever ailment/illness has an individual hospitalized. Also the staff is very concerned and meticulous about after care and the general well being of their patients upon their release. Once you step through these doors, rest assured your health and care is the main priority of this hospitals staff. JE.

I went to the ER here years ago and it was a nightmare. The wait was two and a half hours AFTER they put me in a little room to wait for the doctor. Nurses laughing and talking loud, while I laid in the bed in pain! After that long they gave me a shot and sent me home. I vowed never to go back. Now today my friend went to the ER and he said it’s worse than ever! No social distancing, a woman came in and sat next to him hacking and coughing. Even though he could barely walk he got up and moved. No help from the nurses. He said he was there for 5 HOURS and was never seen by a doctor. They were only seeing ambulance victims and people in near fatal situations. Never given a blanket even though feeling freezing cold is part of his condition and he asked for one several times. He was told they were “out of blankets”. A hospital! He has a vomiting disorder and it’s extremely painful. He said he received no help at all and finally called a family member to pick him up take him home. He could no longer sit up and he was exhausted and frozen. This is what our health care system is like! So sad. Get it together! Stop treating people like this. It’s intolerable!

I am here right now in a patient room post surgery and everyone I have come into contact with has been AMAZING. Dr Laurence Sands was my surgeon. I cannot say anything but positive remarks about him. The nurses taking care of me, so personable and caring. Even room service and the room cleaners are personable and caring!!! Glad I made the decision to get my procedure done down here rather than in WPB. I’m so very happy with this whole experience. Thank you UM hospital! I wish I lived closer

If I could give a negative star I would. I was contacted by the billing department prior to my appt that since I had not met my deductible my simple x-ray would cost about $800. I thought that was outrageous and told them I would go elsewhere for the x-ray and pay out of pocket. They gave me a self-pay price of less than half and so I proceeded to have the study performed in order to see the Neurosurgeon (which is great Dr. Wang). I receive a bill a month later advising I owed my proportion for the exam so I made an online payment. I then receive a letter from my insurance that they still in fact billed them and my insurance paid. When I contact the billing department to request a refund because they got paid twice, I am told it has to go through a manager so I have to wait a week or two. I called again and am told they will process my refund as yes they saw I was billed twice (ins and self-pay) and will get the refund in the mail. I wait and I wait, and wait some more and get nothing. So I call the billing department AGAIN to find out about my reimbursement only to be told it needs to be seen my a manager again. I get on my app and send the billing department an email where 3 days later I am told that in order for them to process the reimbursement they have to wait for my insurance benefits to be processed and paid. I go online and see that they were paid two weeks after my x-ray (which was several months ago).Bottom line is they are quick to take your money but snail paced to give you a refund. At this point they got paid TWICE and I am still waiting to get my money back.My issue is with the billing department, they dont know what they are doing! Read your insurance paperwork so they dont do the same thing to you.

This hospital is one of the best hospitals ever, better than Jackson that’s for sure. To begin with, my mom had a fusion surgery and was admitted on a Friday, she was placed in a room and was given excellent care from then. The nurses who came to check on her were so nice and it was like they were treating you like family. I’ve had some bad experiences in hospitals in New York and this hospital is by far the best one. I don’t understand how the other reviews are giving this hospital 1 star! The views from the rooms are breathtaking it’s like you’re in a high rise condominium. I went to the PH floor and the views were even better. The food is alright, not seasoned but I can tolerate it, because it’s hospital food you know how hospital food is. They give guests recliners to sleep in and the WiFi is great.

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE. The nurses dont take there job seriously. Now, because you cant go inside the hospital to actually see your loved ones, they take advantage of that. They leave you on hold for an hour. Then, when they do pick up they act like they dont care about your situation and they sometimes are laughing in the background. Its very cruel especially in a life and death situation. They will make up lies telling incorrect information as well. They need to fire the whole staff. Its horrible. If your family member have a serious illness I would not recommend going here. They place my mother on a incubator, when she was telling me she was fine. Then when I asked if I could speak with my mother because I wanted to take her home. They didnt allow it. Then an hour later they put her on the machine and didnt even tell me!!! Now days later she passed away! They need to shut this place down!! GO AT YOUR OWN RISK. They will kill your loved ones. And a whole bunch of other symptoms will show up out of nowhere for your loved one that never accurred before. if your loved ones is being taken care of by Marianne coriolan or supervised by Daniel kett, grab them out of there quick! They are killing patients!!! They need to shut this place down and arrest those nurses and doctors!!! Even the death penalty for this!!

I love UM but they definitely have a lot of space for training opportunities, that’s what mistakes are.Extremely disappointed with my wife care , calls not returned, Then Neurosurgeon MD needed a reminder of why he was calling she after he had promised a call by end of day .Attendant that responded was yelling out of his lungs . He didn’t know hot reach an MD after hours , it was impossible Jason Said .During the ER visit she was only seen for the things she wasn’t complaining about , they give her morphine not sure why and threw her in the lobby( look at lobby cam 8/12 at around 9 or close to 10 , the guard even told her not to leave but she was basically told to go away .This has been the most sour experience we have ever had. I’m a Neuro Patient for many years but this has been catastrophic.I doubt this will be read or payed attention to , but you that’s ok , local news are always looking for fillers . Let see if I get a spot on the review board to explore all the training opportunities that will improve all aspects of the operation.

Thank you to all 7 North staff including Sona, Ariel, Pricila-Registered Nurses who kept us updated and provided him confort. Thanks to the manager on the floor Jasmine who checked up on us and made my dad smile every single day. Today I came to do a covi test and the staff was in their lunch hour, they had to wait more than 1 hour with the risk of catching the virus because the tests they do in the blue parking lot inside your car apparently are not valid and the time you spend here waiting is more risky than you run ... I think this is poorly organized because to my understanding someone must always stay to follow the process and thus have alternate schedules so that the staff can do their things and in this way patients take fewer risks .. I think this virus is another strategy to steal money!

Two pathology reports that are listed on their invoice to look like lab work that they requested themselves.Maybe I should report this to the FBI. It smells fishy. Our family had to remove her under our own responsibility because of how bad she was, and the most unfortunate and sad thing of all that happened to us was that SHE DIED two days later. Hi, my name is Raymond Sandoval and I was referred to UM Hospital by Dr. Anis my ENT. He really did his best to work with me and set me up for surgery the same day he saw me to help me get started on my recovery process due to a problem I had breathing. He handled my surgery at UM Hospital and helped me feel confident in him. I had a few nurses and doctors visit and care for me while I was in UM Hosptial. I wasnt able to get everyones name and I like to thank all the Residents, nurses, doctors, and staff for taking the time to care for me and help me take in what was happening to me and comforting me at the same time. They helped explain the processes and procedures I had to be taught so I can go home and continue caring for me and recover. Thank you Dr. ANIS and staff as well as UM Hospital and staff very much for treating me with care and making me feel like a responsibility and not a job. That proves you all have ownership of what you do and are proud to do what you do for us as patients...I look forward to continue working with these doctors and staff if and when necessary. Theyve earned my trust. There is medicine and surgery that assist us in recovering but when a doctor comes with heart, care, and every intention to help make our lives as comfortable as possible after an incident like mine, it helps give me purpose, build my confidence, and motivates me to getting back as close to normal as I possibly can or even better especially when I do my part as a patient. Thank you UM Hospital for accepting me and helping to take care of me. I have a lot of respect and appreciation for the staff there. Shirley, Lucy, Emanuella, Tara, Daniel is, and Blanca are just some of the nurses and staff I can remember that assisted me and cared for me. Thank you all for your help. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSPITAL! My mother was hospitalized a week ago. She is a dyalisis patient and recently presented some heart problems. When she arrived to the emergency they did a covid test which was negative. We take special care of her because of her health complications. She was submitted to the cardiology ( very restricted area) of the hospital. Most nurses treated her poorly and could care less about the pain she was feeling. I had to be calling the hospital for the nurses to check up on her. She was finally getting better so the day of her very important heart procedure they walked in and bluntly told her she had covid. I knew this was a lie. I was with her on the phone the whole time she was there. The previous night the person that did her test had dropped the sample to the floor and the procedure was very suspicious. My mother was having an arrhythmia but they could care less. They told her they were moving her to a covid unit. She and I refused asking them to please repeat the test but they could care less of what we had to say. She had to say she was calling the police for them to let her go. After we left the hospital ( I picked her up) we both did did covid test and we were both NEGATIVE. After a couple of days we did it again and got another NEGATIVE. THEY ARE ALL A BUNCH OF CORRUPT LIARS. They are making profit with peoples lives. The doctor never called back or anything. Please DO NOT come to this hospital specially now during this pandemic. Who knows how many people they are infecting with false positives. This review is solely based off one experience and unfortunate occurrence that has happened within the hospital of University Of Miami. I’m completely appalled by one of the nurses of the 7th floor. His name was Michael, and don’t care for the rest. Absolutely saddened and frustrated by the unprofessionalism that he has. To make a long story short, he completely took advantage of his position and belittled me with his tone of voice and “knowledge” of how the floor runs, mind you, he repeated himself serval times to me as the point was noted nor did I care after the third time of repeated words. For a dying cancer patient to be put on the back burner just to have assistance to use the restroom because she was not as ill as the rest, just because she can talk and move (for now), does not mean she is not as much of a priority as someone else. For her to be waiting 25-40 minutes as Michael claimed is the wait time for assistance if her nurse is with another patient is absolutely absurd and extremely unfair in her position. While the nurses twiddle their thumbs, and cut her off on each call she made for assistance, he decided to raise his voice and follow me through the hall to “educate” me on how the floor runs and this was better for him than finding a solution to the matter at hand. He is not entitled to talk to anyone the way he did no matter his place. For him to continue working there, I fear for the patients who have to deal with him. I believe he needs proper training on customer care and service all together. No matter how long you’ve gone to school, if you can not be professional at the end of the day, there is no place for you to be working in an environment where people are counting on you because they can not do it themselves. Other wise, the rest of the nurses within the floor were extremely understanding and had to apologize FOR him which is kind of embarrassing on his side to be completely honest. At the end of the day, the experience was short but ended with a bad taste in my mouth knowing my husbands grandmother is unfortunately one of the many who has to face this man if ever need be. I just hope no one else goes through what we did today.

Emergency room service is horrible . When pain is advised the shoulder shrug answer given with a “ oh well when we can we will check “ what does that mean ?What happened to patient care , Sympathy to the patient regardless the extreme . Treat those in front of you as if it’s your own family standing there .Every person dealing with patient care , starting with admissions should be forced to pass a patient care/ service class before being allowed to work for such a well known name of University of Miami .Today’s admission employee was very rude and careless .I will never unless a complete must will I come to be helped here again . If I had the choice this wouldn’t be it .

I Carlos Cardozo, in full use of my abilities, I want to make a public complaint to the University of Miami Hospital, since my mother is suffering from many health problems and her life is highly compromised. She had clearly received this when she had Medicaid and Medicare, all the exams that they could charge for the insurance that my mother had, therefore all of my mothers history is in that hospital and now that she does not have insurance, since under this administration she lost the medical insurance although she is fighting it at the moment so that it can be restored as soon as possible a doctor from the prestigious UM in a few words told my mother which i return and I repeat his medical history have it. My Mother is extremely committed to going to Jackson Hospital, of course because she does not have insurance at this time. Which would involve putting an application for financial aid at Jackson Hospital which we who have experience and know the bureaucratism of that hospital will not be quick. I can already go gathering for a coffin.

Not a terrible hospital but definitely has a lot of problems especially with organization and quality of care, they make a lot of mistakes and take a long time to communicate/get back to you, especially if you have pending results. And they do not hide their greed, they will do everything they can to milk you for as long as possible (you will notice this very early on if you just pay attention to what they say and do). When I tried to leave after being told 5 times that nothing serious is wrong with me (just a small and minor infection) but that they wanted me to stay for 1 more day, (for 4 days straight they said this) and then saying that actually I should stay for 3 days or more while having IV in me, they brought in the Nurse manager (this nurse manager was 1 of the most ignorant and meanest people I have seen in a hospital especially in a managerial position, he kept trying to push us into a corner with the other lady from patient experience) and someone from administration to bully me and basically beg me not to leave and stay for a while more. They even ended up telling me that the labs ended up finding a bad infection, even though they just told me that I have nothing a few hours ago!! So, when I told them that I was never told by anyone that my results showed something bad they just stayed quiet, they should say everything. And let me tell you, having Antibiotics put in you 24/7 for multiple days damages you more then you can imagine, I was always tired and weak. They already made thousands of dollars off me the past few days just from the room stay/IV meds/and 2 minor procedures that they said fixed the problem i had. These people are vultures. And whenever they say they will be back or when I ask for something it always takes 2-3 hours for anyone to show up.I asked for my new results that they said came back and they gave it to me hours later. Even most of the residents knew what was going on and hated dealing with the nurses and administrators who have everyone on a leash. Not everyone here is bad or only thinks about greed, but I will say a large percentage of the nurses/administrators and senior doctors fall into that category. It is sad that this is what medicine and patient care has become but it is the reality now. They ended up sending in a group of doctors and telling me that what I have is not that serious and that I can go home on oral antibiotics!!!! But only after I put my foot down and continue to say that I want to leave since the doctors already told me that I am fine.(Now keep in mind that this is my own personal experience and may not be the same as other patients but definitely a lot have experienced the same and worse.)(This is a repost, I originally posted this a year ago) To give an update, the amount that they are billing me is close to $100k usd for just 4 days of pretty much just IV.

Staff are polite and doctors are good but every time I come here I am in the waiting room for over one hour and that is with an appointment. On my last visit I waited two hours. What is the point of giving appointments if you still have to sit for so long before being seen? Its the same at the Quest lab that UM uses for blood work, always a one hour minimum with an appointment. Ridiculous.

I work for the university and you would think that things would go smoothly, but nothing is easy at all. Here are the serious concerns I have: 1. It takes months to be able to make appointments with doctors of choice. 2. Few doctors read your blood work results and your medical history to address issues that arise, 3. It is an incredible task to get medications sorted out between Uhealth, the insurance, and the pharmacy, 4. The communication system is extraordinarily flawed, so you spend an inordinate amount of time trying to locate somebody who can help you (only for issues to not be resolved, 5. There is no patient relations online who can advocate for you when issues arise (their idea of resolving things is a message saying reach out to your doctor or specialist (you can call a number but no one ends up helping), 6. Their way of doing appointments stinks, 7. They dont allow you to just change doctors within the same specialization unless you write a letter to indicate why you want to change, 8. They bill you for using the UM facility even when you work for the institution, 9. They tell you which type of doctor they will make an appointment with even if you have told them that you have been with that type of specialist (e.g. neurology versus neuromuscular), 10. They treat you like cattle and they dont let you know when your doctor is out on leave or vacation (which is why you dont get through to them at times). I am leaving it at 10 reasons why I am extremely frustrated and unhappy about UHealth. I believe in accountability and UHealth is not one to adhere to that. People who have worked there (and left to find better jobs elsewhere) have validated all my complaints. UHealth has a long way to go before I can ever have anything positive to say. The bureaucracy is just hellish. I cannot say anything about the Cancer center or Bascom. I, thankfully, I have not had to go the first, and the second is fine. I give 1 star only because I have finally found 1 caring primary doctor. I hope others have a better experience than I have.

Identity Theft Alert to anyone who stays there!!! First I want to say that the care my wife received there was great but I can not leave a good review because immediately after she died someone used her personal information to change the mailing address with the DMV to an apartment in Miami and had a drivers license sent there. Only someone from the hospital had both the needed information as well as the knowledge of her death. They then started applying for credit. I am not saying you should not get treatment at UMH but you might want to use a credit monitoring service if you do.

We were in Miami from out of town when my mother started having a severe asthma attack. We were dropped off to the ER and she had to sit immediately just getting from the car to the desk. We stood there with no one at the desk for what felt like precious moments. I walked up to the security guard who after seeing her distress proceeded to locate someone to assist us. The tech asked her questions as if she was in any shape to expend the breath. I answered all for her. He went back to see if they could get her straight back. Again left alone to sit unassisted in the waiting area. This will happen a few more times until she grabs the arms of her chair before her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she slumps over. Only then did they kick in to some semblance of a gear. As they ran around like blind mice the doctor tried to give some feel of authority by calling out sporadic orders. The AC broke so the curtained off “room” was unreasonably chilled. She began to shake/chatter, I paged for a blanket and pillow to keep her up to breathe but able to lay back...they never came. The rest of our experience was just as terrible for the 14+ hours we were there. They only rays of competency came from a Nurse names Leslie, who despite having a bad day made us feel human and a pulmonary tech Andrew who spoke to us like we mattered. Thanks to them for making such as disastrous night a bearable morning. They need to be valued bc they are the only reason I didn’t give one star!

Spent 45 minutes with a GI doctor who barely asked me questions, did not even bother to let me explain my history and medical situation, and got slammed with almost $500 of bills. For 45 minutes. The Dr. recommended about 5 different diagnostic tests to rule out different things, all of which were completely unecessary. Can’t believe I am expected to pay bills for a basically nothing!!! AWFUL. And yes, I have insurance and this was In network.

If I could I would give this hospital a negative -10. Last yr in 2018 they miss diagnosed me with ectopic pregnancy gave me methotrexate 4 times. To only be sent Jackson hospital by one of the ER doctors because it was not ectopic at all. Then I had to have a D&c performed. Which was heartbreaking.I regret going to this hospital so much. I had the worst 4 months of my life due to the negligence on their behalf. Please stay away from them.

POSITIVES and NEGATIVES: I have been a patient under the pediatrics department (which is excellent) there and have visited the ER for a few minor issues. Over all, the doctors are knowledgeable, the hospital is clean, and the staff seems friendlyNEGATIVES: My issue was with the administrators. At least in my case it was often difficult to get even the simplest of forms (such as immunization records) and the secretaries bungled the scheduling. Also, the hospital often overbooks its OR. Doctors themselves would complain that they usually try to get surgery done as early as possible as the OR rarely runs on time and the hospital refuses to staff another or hire more people for the current ones in use.

It’s only when we got in they’re faces to demand help that we saw nothing was gonna be done we left without singing papers either if that right or wrong I don’t care at all we went to Hialeah hospital the it’s way better there if your pregnant don’t waste your time at UM you could seriously be putting the life of your baby at risk.
