We brought in a stray we found that was almost on deaths door. The staff here were so kind and helpful to us, especially Dr. Zabalaga. She gave us treatment options and spent the time to give us clear explanations of everything so we knew what we were dealing with. They saved our new friend Pancake who is now feeling much better and were so grateful!

ANGELO died yesterday and we lost our sweet puppy. UPDATE- Angelo is gravely ill this morning because VCA lied about giving him an IV fluid and will most likely die. Only if we didnt take him there as he lost all of that critical time yesterday while they played games with revising the bill without basis. Help!! Our puppy is dying from parvo and VCA will not treat our 2 month old puppy that we adopted on Sunday. The puppy turned out to have parvo and VCA wants 15,000.00 to save our dog and refused to do any treatment unless paid in full. They are very cold if you are not wealthy and do not care in any way about the life of our puppy. We offered them 50% to save his life but according to them they can only accept the full amount. They are heartless beyond description and are essentially a money grubbing operation with zero compassion. We are devastated that we will need to pick our puppy and let him die at home in front of our children.Horrible and corrupt!! Do not bring your beloved pet here as they are unethical and money is the #1 concerned. We just lost our beloved pet of 12 years and now it looks like we will lose Angelo. We are trying to do a go fund me but Angelo can not wait. Our grief is beyond description, find another place for your beloved pets.

Im so glad VCA SEC took my dog in and gave him a second chance. The doctor called me to see how he was doing and that ment a lot to me. She cares and the staff is great too. Very expensive. When I asked if I could have a breakdown of costs on a simple procedure, I was simply told “no” by the vets assistant. When my cat was “ready” for pick up, I still had to wait another 30 minutes. I called 2-3 times to ask what the delay was if she was all ready for pick up and I was told they were waiting for a technician “to be free.” But I was standing outside and I could see the vet techs were just sitting around on their phones. To top it off, they don’t give you a set price. They give you a “range” which they will probably overshoot anyway. Also Be prepared to wait around for hours on end. Avoid at all costs unless absolutely necessary (and even then you’re better off with MASH). Terrible experience.

None of the suggested reasons for disliking this hospital truly pertain, however, my cat has been brought in twice in four days for a condition that has worsened and of course i have to pay twice for these er visits, plus whatever meds and procedures are done. The disappointment is that the doctors, knowing this is a recurring issue, would take shortcuts at the expense of my cat and also my finances, instead of being thorough the first of my most recent two visits. If pet distress is part of what we’re trying to reduce, as medical providers and experts in animal care, they have literally fallen short in this instance. The doctors have great communication, i know they care about pets and i do like them here, but for my cat, with his recurring issues, they should have offered or suggested more testing, like my cat is receiving tonight, on his second visit for the same condition, in four days. Also, the person on the phone said the doctor could lower costs for me and that only a doctor could decide that. Of course when i brought it up to the doctor, they said no, that they couldn’t. I’m not looking for handouts, just a bit of ownership on the clinics part for not being thorough in the first place and still charging me the complete cost of a second emergency visit in four days.I think they’re great doctors with empathetic staff, but even great doctors make errors. I think this is an example of that and I’m stuck with two bills and they profit from this. It’s unjust to operate in this way.

So expensive for them to not be very helpful. The first part that worried me is they thought my cats lack of tail was genetic. A five year old could tell you it’s not genetic because the surgery she had (before I adopted her) was very botched and it does not look good or natural. Umm did you even look at it?Then, when I finally got the results the assistant just said it was all negative and she’s fine no further info. When I asked to talk to the vet they said she’s busy so I asked if she could call me back and they sounded annoyed and put me through to the vet, who was then super unhelpful. Told me everything it “could” be - isn’t that why I spent almost $600?? 🙄

Weve had to take our pup to ASEC Emergency Hospital several times in the last 2 months and the Doctor staff has been amazing. We first brought our pup in and found out that she had pneumonia and then they ran blood tests and found out that she also had lymphoma/leukemia and gave our pup maybe 3 months to live. Since this diagnosis by Dr. Wu and Dr. Vu, they have been very attentive to pain management for our pup. This morning we called and spoke with CINDY, ASECs Customer Care Representative, and she was RUDE, NOT COMPASSIONATE, AND ABSOLUTELY NOT HELPFUL. We tried to explain our pups situation to her and how important it was that we have her pain meds refilled because she is declining rapidly, and she really did not care about our situation at all and was not willing to go out of her way to have the doctor on the floor speak with us. When I asked for her full name, she would only give me her first name and when I asked to speak with someone else, she put us on hold indefinitely. I am so incredibly disappointed that ASEC would have CINDY be the person that speaks to the pet owners. ASEC is a 24/7 Emergency Vet Hospital and that means that COMPASSION and SENSITIVITY should be the primary skill that someone answering the phones should demonstrate to their clientele. ASEC should hire a more professional, compassionate and sensitive person to be their Customer Care Representative.

All the doctors were thorough and didn’t push me to make any decision even when one might have benefited them financially. My dog came out of a tough situation healthy and I couldn’t be more grateful. The waits were a bit long and it is incredibly expensive, but I don’t have a comparison for a different 24/7 animal hospital in those regards.

What a superb facility! The VCA ASEC staff and Dr. Brittany Shuster saved my tiny foster kitten Sapphires life! I rushed her there on a Saturday because she had not been gaining any weight for a few days, was lethargic and I just knew something was terribly wrong. The wait was said to be 3 hours to see a doctor, but they sent an assistant out to take my kitten for a quick evaluation, and upon finding her dehydrated and with a high fever, they bumped her up in line and the doctor saw her just a half hour later. They quickly communicated with the ASPCA (for whom I am a foster) and after ordering specific tests, discovered she had Panleukopenia, which can be very lethal to tiny kittens. They gave her sub-cutaneous hydration right away, and started her on antibiotics and anti-nausea medication. They let me taker her home with me with very clear instructions of how to administer medications, and I am so deeply relieved and thrilled so say that Sapphire has made a beautiful recovery. The entire staff was incredibly kind, responsive and helpful. I cannot recommend this wonderful animal hospital highly enough. Thank you, VCA ASEC!!!!!! xoxoxoxox

If you find yourself in need of oncology services for your pet, this is the place to go. Weve been under the care of Dr. Downing and her team for about nine months now and are always more than pleased with the level of care and compassion that we receive after any appointment or interaction over the phone. They are always prompt to respond to messages, so thorough and thoughtful with their information and responses, and truly make us feel like our needs are being exceeded. Even though weve never had the pleasure of meeting any of the team face to face due to the pandemic, its very easy to feel their empathy over the phone. No one wants to end up in an oncologists office, but our experiences have always been positive and they more than manage to make it as pleasant of an experience as possible. We cannot recommend (and thank) Dr. Downing and her team enough!Ive also been very pleased with how VCA is handling curbside services. Its very easy to check in, a staff member is always very prompt to pick up our cat, and our veterinarian is always on the phone in a timely manner following pick up and after examination of our little geriatric feline. We never feel rushed to get off the phone and it very much feels as if we are at a normal vet appointment - just not present in the room.

I took my puppy to VCA ASEC over a weekend when I was visiting my parents. The curbside experience was excellent. They got the history over the phone, greeted me at my car, and confirmed what I told them. The vet called shortly after once she had done her examination. Discussed plan and confirmed the estimate. When they were done with diagnostics, called and discussed treatment. Overall excellent experience and I highly recommend this hospital.

I have only had positive experiences here. Look, if you are taking your dog to a vet you are going to pay and arm and a leg, but hey, you can be pretty sure you will get consistently good treatment with excellent vets at ASEC. The only downside is that VCA owns this place which is disconcerting, since the VCA on 1900 4 blocks down has a phone service where you talk to someone in a different city and cant even give you directions or any information about how busy the clinic which is relevant if there is emergency. Instead at ASEC you will be able to talk to a person who works in that building and is respectful and considerate.

We took our puppy here; our visit lasted 5 hours in total. due to COVID there has been a surge in dog ownership so a lot of emergency rooms (including this one) are stretched thin on personnel. they are not allowing most people inside the building, meaning you should expect to wait in your car while your pet is treated, so bring snacks and water.outside of the wait, everyone was very professional and kind considering it was the middle of the night. we were provided with updates around every 30 minutes to an hour and came home with medication and instructions for care. when we were most concerned about our puppy we called and asked pelena at the front desk if we could have some water for our puppy, and they instantly brought some out in a little cup with a plastic lid for her.our visit was around $250 in all after tests, medication, and treatment. we would certainly come here again.

I cannot recommend VCA ASEC more highly! My cat presented with what was assumed to be an orthopedic issue but what turned out to be an issue for internal medicine. Through the process of diagnosing his condition, we worked with doctors in the orthopedic surgery department, the emergency department, and internal medicine. Every doctor and staff member we spoke to was amazing, patient, and extremely helpful. Seeing your pet sick is never easy, but with every phone call, the doctors here put our family at ease that our feline family member was getting the best possible care. Especially during COVID when you cant always be with your pet in person, you want a care center that you can trust. The doctors and staff here were always in constant communication with us every time he was at their facility. Speciality vet care is not cheap, but if needed, you want to make sure you are getting quality care. Our cat will continue to get his treatment here and we would not hesitate to recommend ASEC to anyone looking for speciality care or emergency care for their pet!

So, prior to arriving at ASEC at 1am in the morning, I had gone to another animal emergency hospital which stated surgery was absolutely needed to remove a foreign body from my dog’a stomach. We came to Asec looking for a second opinion and we’re SO HAPPY we did. The front desk staff on both day and night shift are so sweet. Dr.Juan and Dr.Mcevilly (as well as Dr. Cohen whom I didn’t meet but helped with my dogs procedure) are all amazing. They were so thorough and understanding and answered ALL questions. In the end, surgery wasn’t required and they were able To do an endoscopy saving us thousands of dollars and saving our pup from having to be opened up. We are SO thankful and will absolutely be coming to ASEC from now on.Is it expensive? Yes, but all emergency vets are. In the end, they won’t push extras on you if they aren’t necessary. The endoscopy was considerably less than surgery and they chose it because it was less invasive for my dog - so they care about more conservative methods first. Also - the doctors are TOP NOTCH.It’s worth noting that in the waiting room I met people who have been coming here for 20 years and drive from Pasadena and far out places because of the care provided here. I was skeptical since it’s VCA, but found out that it’s really ASEC.I’m just so thankful for finding this place at 1am.

While talking he said lets see what the blood work tells us. I questioned him with regard to their doing tests, as I had never been told they wanted to do, much less the price.. Also, about 10 days earlier they did $2k worth of tests plus my local vet did ap. $700 worth of blood work. The next thing is another tech came in & said your bill for today is $305. I was mortified, as I was not told about the test, much less the cost. The most important part of this is that a pet owner should be asked BEFORE any test is done, much less one that runs a few hundred dollars.I guess they either assume everyone has deep pockets or they dont care what they do to people, as long as they get their due. IMO their actions were unethical.BTW after Dr. Cohen realized I was upset about the test, I never saw him again! He ran into the back & did not come out until after I left. I was a bit disappointed by this place although those doctors were kind. I brought my kitty there (he was dying and needed to be either operated or stop his suffering. Although, they DIDNT know he was THAT serious because the ultrasound and X-ray didnt show his intestine had holes everywhere) Therefore, they took their time and told me the price of the surgery and told me that theyre not able to operate him untill they receive the full payment. Which was almost $5000. I told them i only have $2500, and I will pay the rest after the surgery. They refused me. then I tired to apply for care credit in the hospital, and it only went through for $500. I paid them $3000 in total and they finally willing to operate my baby. However, during the surgery, the other doctor called my boyfriend and told him that my babys situation was really bad and gave us the option to put him down because he will have a really low chance to live after the surgery. Im so disappointed that they didnt know how serious he was after doing all the X-ray and ultrasound and just waited to see how much money i could possibly pay them so theyre willing to operate him. He was literally dying. Although that the fact is even just a few hours surgery delay will not bring him alive. because he was too serious. The feeling of wanting me to pay the full amount of money to operate him was so bad, and both surgeon and doctor could not know that his was that serious and is going to die just made me feel even worst. How heartbroken is this? so, death happened. Doctors told us that the ultrasound and X-ray dont show hat there were holes in his intestine because it was zigzagged and it hides all those holes. I would not tell you if I will go to this place in the future or not. They didnt rip off my money (although its expensive) but they do have money problem (they have to receive it first to do anything). and, It all depends on your luck.

Horrible people refused to treat my 14 year old puppy because of some note in the system. They don’t care about your animals only about your bank account. Find somewhere to else to treat your animals they seriously do not care if your animal is in pain.

Usually in and out pretty easily. The only complaint I have is that the last time we were in they told me that my dogs were overweight and when I asked our regular vet she told me they were fine. We are very careful with their food so it was a bit offensive. Otherwise weve had good luck here.

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this place. My cat has been here on a few occasions, most recently to get her lungs drained and tests run. The vets took so much time to talk to me about the situation, and the surgeon I spoke to on the phone went over every option possible before we put my cat through surgery. Although it seems a bit pricey, having called around other speciality facilities I can tell you they’re the best bang for your buck, others were much more expensive and not as communicative. Don’t bring your pets anywhere else if they need specialists and overnight care.

DO NOT USE THIS PLACE UNLESS THERE IS SIMPLY NO OTHER OPTION. My 10 year old Frenchie was diagnosed with TCC (cancer of the urinary tract). She was stable and dealing with it OK, but we were concerned that it was actually an infection and not TCC. There were 2 doctors there, both very nice. One said we should have it biopsied to be sure. What a mistake. The biopsy was fine, but they didnt use the right breathing protocol or something. After we picked her up, she had 3 seizures and started just wandering around with no idea as to what she was doing. We ultimately had to put her down. They still took their money. I got sympathy from the staff, but never was able to see either doctor again. Yes, my dog was sick, but to die of something else caused by the incompetence of this place makes me so sad and mad. Avoid this place. In fact, avoid VCA vets in general. Poor quality care.

I am quite surprised about some bad reviews but I will speak for my experience.Asec saved my dogs life three times. First time he was hit by a car back in 2013 and they were able to manage his head trauma when I truly thought he was not going to make it. Their ER care was outstanding.Second time three years ago , my beagle dog had a major chocolate and sweets intoxication : 10 little chocolates 3 croissants and 7 chocolate snacks he ate from my delivered package my parents sent me from Europe. His abdomen was literally bulging out and once again Asec saved his life. Vca West LA told me he was not gonna make it.Third time my dog who is almost 15 now (thanks to Asec as well) got a major liver infection post surgery eye cancer removal and Dr Trivedi Dr Mc Evellin and Dr Baron literally saved his life again. Dr Trivedi was able to find the right meds and it wasnt easy believe me. My dog had jaundice everywhere in his body. Wouldnt eat anything for 3 days.I can never thank this facility enough. My dogs r everything to me for real and I am super picky when it comes to the best doctors for my dogs. I waited a long time to leave this review. I have doubts about some bad reviews bc I truly think my dog would never have survived if these doctors were as bad.I had bad experiences actually at Vca West LA. They r all super sensitive and get any extra dollar they can.Back in 2007 Dr Cretin at West La suggested me to remove my dog prostate even tho all other doctors told me not to. A good oncologist should know better with adenocarcinoma. I had to let go my dog after three weeks from diagnosis bc the cancer was so fast. Dr Cretin knew my dog had already metastasis in his liver. These r the money hungry people to me.I was never overcharged at Asec. The routine exams or to care for your animals do require money just like your health does. I do have health insurance for my dogs. Thanks Asec and the OUTSTANDING service you provide!

I was referred to this vet because my dog needed a specialty vet. The first visit went ok but recurring visits not so much. I called at one point to get a prescription refilled and was told that there was no record of that medication on her chart and that it had been accidentally perscribed to her. Then in that same phone call i was told that i should start going back to the vet who referred me to them. I took that as basically that didnt care to have my business or make sure that my dog received the proper care that she needed.

Four months ago my dog, Sydney was struggling to urinate. After getting an X-ray at my vet they referred me to ASEC (LA location) to get an ultrasound. Knowing she was giving bad news, the doctor was very sweet. She sat and cried with me and answered all my questions. Based on the results, we were told Sydney had three tumors. One was 30% of her chest, the other in her liver and the third on her blatter snaking to her kidneys. We were referred to oncologist Dr Downing. After finding out there was nothing sergical to do, we opted for chemo and an anti inflammatory to help relieve some symptoms for the time she has left. Originally we thought that would be 1-2 weeks. Almost 12 weeks later Sydney was still active, eating and playing like normal. She unfortunately passed yesterday after one of the tumors erupted. Losing Sydney is one of the hardest things I have dealt with in my life but from the ultrasound doctor to dr downing and her awesome tech to the emergency vet who told me the bad news yesterday and hugged me and cried with me, I couldnt be more happy with this group of amazing women. I wish I remembered all their names so I can call them out for their awesomeness! Thank you for taking care of her (and me) during this hard time. Highly recommend this place. One negative is the front staff. They arent very responsive to left messages and they always seem preoccupied when you check in. After spending several hours there over several visits, they seem more interested in chatting with each other rather than giving great customer service. Please dont let that deter you from ASEC though. Just wanted to be honest on why it didnt receive 5 stars.

Dr Somerville saved my German shepherds life when he got bloat some years ago. It happened after hours and the first vet we went to in the valley (McClave in Reseda) misdiagnosed it as a tumor. He recommended putting him to sleep! Thank goodness we got a second opinion. When we arrived at ASEC they took one look at our X-rays and knew immediately that it was bloat. Dr Somerville untwisted his stomach and did a gastropexy. My dog made a full recovery.I now run a home dog boarding and daycare in the San Fernando Valley. Even though ASEC is quite a ways from us, I still send clients there when their dogs need more advanced care than their regular vets are able to offer. Several months ago one of our regular doggie guests was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor. Her mom took her to ASEC and Dr Somerville removed the tumor. The dog is now cancer-free!I wish you guys were closer to us in case we ever were to have a time sensitive emergency. I have yet to find a decent vet in the valley. Any recommendations?

If you have a dog in desperate need for a major surgery - you want to come here.Dr. Mary Somerville is THE BEST. Shes a straight shooter as our holistic vet likes to say. What does that mean? She doesnt b.s. you. Our husky had a luxating patella 3/4 on the scale. Mary talked to us about the surgery extensively, spending at least 30 minutes with us telling us about the surgery, listening to our concerns, and answering all of our questions. She suggested an additional wire to hold the pins together as our dog had an insane amount of energy and she was afraid would hurt the resulting surgery. He came out of surgery amazingly well and his recuperation went great. He now can run and jump and be carefree like a husky should be. He also has a 2/3 on his other knee but Dr. Somerville informed us that as long as hes not lame and it only happens now and again we can keep him away from surgery. We have another dog who has been for two consults and Mary has been very clear with that surgery was recommended but not necessary if we did all of her PT with her and she showed improvement.Dr. Somerville has performed TWO back surgeries on a friends dog allowing him to walk again in both occasions.Dr. Raviv Balfour is the Dr. that rescue from the hart takes all of its hard to diagnose cases too. He has performed some other miracles for that organization.

I recently went and took my kitten for emergency because i believe he ate something he wasnt suppose to and was throwing up and had diarreah. Dr. Su was very helpful kept me updated and took very well care of my little 3 month old kitten. Its been 3 days and my baby feels way better and is a playful kitten as usual. They are not cheap but i love how the receptionists the staff and the dr were very nice and are very concerned about their patients. There were 4 emergencys ahead of me and 2 drs and they got to me within 30 mins. I Just Simply Loved Their service. Thanks ASEC :)

Thank goodness Dr. Alexandra Orenick was on duty when I had to bring my wonderful Maltese dog Kelly in. Kelly has a litter sister named Casey who was also with us. Kelly had Cushings disease and had been successfully treated for over a year with medication. Then one day, all of a sudden, she failed. Something was wrong. She was in obvious pain, could not walk. I brought her to our regular veterinarian and did not get our regular doctor but a new one. They observed her for 4 1/2 hours then sent me home with a sedative saying sorry, she is in pain. The doctor never even came out to talk to me when she gave her back but sent a helper. From the moment I put her in my car she started crying and whimpering. She would not eat her dinner and was obviously uncomfortable. By then the regular veterinary office was closed and I rushed over to ASEC. The staff immediately rushed over when I walked in with my 2 dogs and brought Kelly right back to Dr. Orenick. Upon examination, she told me that Kelly was paralyzed in her hind legs and obviously in pain and said if it were her dog she would put her to sleep. That was all I needed to hear. It was heartbreaking but what has haunted me for over a week was that she spent 4 1/2 of her last hours in pain at my veterinary hospital that I have been going to for over 30 years. Then I received a lovely note from Dr. Orenick which helped me put closure to the whole incident. Thank you Dr. Orenick.

I would first like to speak about Dr. Mary Sommerville. After interviewing several referred surgeons for my cat, of which Mary was one of them, I decided to use Mary. The reason I decided on Mary was because she gave me the most detail description of what exactly needed to done surgically to help save my beautiful 23 pound ragdoll who had a tumor on his stomach and stones in his bladder. This was a huge decision since it was such a major operation. She immediately described everything in plain laymans english and took more time with me than any of the others surgeons. Also what tipped the scale was the fact that she had also operated Dr Revels cat and Dr Reval is the head of the West Hollywood Animal Hospital. Good enough for me and was I ever right! After the surgery she called me everyday my cat was at Asec Hospital not only once but three or fours times a day to give me a report. OMG who does that? Usually when you call a vet much less a surgeon you cant even get them on the phone. After a year of dragging my poor cat to three differents vets I have finally found the greatest place of all and that is Asec Hospital. They always answer their phone without having to press different numbers and listen to 10 different recordings to get to where you want to go. You can always speak to a doctor immediately and only once did I have to wait to get a call back. And the wait time was only 10 or 15 minutes. This place rocks!!!Now they are not cheap but you get what you pay for. The best surgeon, the best service and the best results. The first day I brought Teddy home, I was able to call them and get whatever answers and concerns I had addressed immediately. Whatever I needed to know, they gave me the answer immediately. I was a crazy mom, calling them 5 and 6 times a day and they were always kind, patient and there for me.I run a service business myself for 30 years and they treated me the way I treat my clients and I have to tell you that is hard to find these days.Thank you Mary and thank you ASEC!!
