This is a fantastic gym. All the trainers and staff are so attentive and make the atmosphere a lot more fun to work out at. There’s plenty of equipment always available and I like the tennis courts too.

Great atmosphere and location! As a person who lives closer to other locations, I choose to workout at this one purely because of the friendly staff and members. The equipment is top notch and I would recommend anyone trying to get in shape to join this club!

This gym is amazing all the amenities are fAntastic. The gym has 2 floors and multiple of the same machines so there is always space to workout and the cardio area is big and many machines.

This Genesis is absolutely wonderful. Doesn’t feel crowded or overwhelming and there’s lots of friendly faces. 10/10 gym.

I really used to not like this gym but I decided to give it another go. The staff is amazing and super helpful. The equipment and the gym areas are so much cleaner now. I also don’t feel out of place doing less weight than the other members. Super welcoming environment and I wouldn’t choose any other gym now! Good job!

I needed a temporary gym until I go to KU so I looked at Genesis Health Club. They had reached out to me to come and take a tour of the gym. Tanner was super sweet and amazing. He went out of his way to make sure that this gym is exactly what I needed! This gym is so clean and spread out. And it is never crowded. Thank you guys!

Horrible company, lied to in order to get signed up. Tanner the manager at this location lied to me and never honored what was discussed. Horrible representation especially from a manager. Worst customer service. Highly do not recommend going to this gym. Not worth the $55+ a month either. Go to lifetime 100% worth the extra money!

Would definitely recommend, the trainers and staff are very accommodating and professional. If you are a new weight lifter this is a great place to start, as they help you reach your goals and are super friendly along your way. Also, the tennis coaches that they have are super friendly and polite when it comes to your training. If you are looking for a place to get great gains and have an enjoyable experience, this is the place!

Great place to workout! Both managers, Thomas and Tanner, were SO helpful and make the gym such a fun and exciting experience. They always seem so interested in what I’m doing and I can tell they really are about everyone who comes in. Definitely a go to gym!

After taking some time off, I decided to give this gym another guy. I am extremely impressed with the changes that have been made since I last came. I will absolutely be coming here full time now. Tom and the staff are incredible!

Had an extremely unpleasant interaction with the club manager, Tanner Furtkamp. He was incredibly dismissive and rude when I came in to cancel my membership because of COVID concerns.*Update: over a week later, no one has reached out to me from Genesis, and I’ve been charged the monthly membership fee after canceling.

This gym is great, its always super clean and there are a lot of machines so theres never a wait time to use one!

As a former member, my recent experience has been a complete 180 from a few years ago. Thomas is wonderful- he genuinely wants you to have the best experience possible. Flex is everything I could hope for in a personal trainer- smart, intentional, and fun. Im so glad I gave Genesis another shot!

Nice facilities, good trainers, and nice amenities. The most important thing for me is that the place isnt completely overcrowded at any time of day. Their month to month plans are a nice deal for what you get. Sad Im moving to an area without a location, but Thomas made it super easy to get everything squared away; there was an issue but he cleared it up right away, no questions asked. I didnt have to worry about being nickel and dimed just to cancel a membership. Absolutely reccomend this place if you want a relatively quiet gym getaway with nice staff to help out. Thanks guys.

McPherson site has friendly, helpful staff. However the central business office does not keep up well with accurate contract amounts and billing periods.My addition to the review, followup four months later. Business office did straighten out the billing. Eddie the McPherson club manager was very friendly and helpful. (I see Google posting my review on the Lawrence South location but I am referencing the McPherson, KS location.)

This place is a train wreck. An expensive one. I’ve had a membership with them since February and in that time they’ve “lost” my billing info 3 times, saddled me with rude and unprofessional trainers, and erroneously charged me for months where my membership was supposed to have been paused. Fixing their mistakes is practically a part time job. And in the meantime it always costs me valuable time and money.Sure the equipment is nice, and the gym isn’t super busy at the time I work out, but they are definitely not worth this pain and hassle. Save your time, energy, and money and just go to Crunch fitness down the road. In my experience, Genesis is always trying to pull something and manipulate their customers.

This gym is literally my second home. The people are so nice, the equipment is always clean, and the Spin classes are absolutely amazing. 10/10 recommend!!

This location is the cleanest and most well kept location in Lawrence. The space is very open, inviting and the equipment is well maintained. The things that this club manager is doing is beyond recognition he’s a game changer!

Not sure how they treat members, but me as a non-member trying to get my tennis racquet restrung, not so good. 4 days after I dropped it off, I picked it up without anybody even looking at it. Not going back even if I have to take 2 trips to KC to get it done.UPDATE: I just received a call from a trainer, apparent callback from me requesting tennis lessons. How we got from getting my racquet restrung (which didnt get done), to me taking lessons is beyond my understanding.LAST UPDATE: Publicly expressing concern (Response from owner), but privately no response to my email. Seems in-line with other negative reviews.

Masks are to be worns at all times while in the club. No one is enforcing this rule. The front desk staff who sits around goofing off,when they could possible walk around and make sure masks are being worn.One person behind the desk was not even wearing a mask. When I asked he said he has been vaccinated. That is not how this works. Been a member with this club for 10year,not anymore. Can I give zero stars? Canceled my membership in August and they continue to charge me monthly. Numerous phone calls, emails. The manager never calls back. One occasion he answered the phone and said he would take care of it that day and refund the amounts. That didn’t happen, apparently, as now it is mid-November and they continue to charge me.

I wish there is a ZERO star because one star is more than what they deserve.

This is a great place to work out. The staff is super friendly. Everyone that I have run into working out is cordial and cleans up after themselves.I have never enjoyed working out. Period. But since I started with my trainer, Joe, it has been infinitely easier. He taught me the proper way to do it and push myself. Now I feel ready to tackle the gym on my own and I never thought that would ever happen. Thank you.

DO NOT BECOME A MEMBER HERE!!!!Although this is a very long review, I feel as though other people deserve to know what they are signing up for when becoming a member at Genesis Health Club.It is quite apparent that the employees are uneducated when it comes to the company’s policies and will confidently share incorrect information. This is extremely frustrating as I, the client, suffer financially as a result of the incompetence of a staff member. Genesis Health Club’s first priority is the financial gain they will receive from you being a member with them and couldn’t care less about your experience as a customer. I have been a loyal member to Genesis for over 4 years. That’s roughly over $2,000 I have spent despite multiple less than ideal encounters with staff members over the years. The most recent altercation is a good example of the quality of service you may have if choosing to become a member at Genesis Health Clubs.After expressing I wished to terminate my membership roughly 6 months after my contract was completed, Genesis still required me to pay the month of August. I had expressed in May that I would be moving and wished to have July be my last payment and was told I needed to wait until closer to the time I was leaving and was never given a date I needed to notify them by. I assumed a month prior would be sufficient and when I went in to terminate my membership I was told that there were no notes in my file that I was terminating and that I would have to pay for August. I expressed to the owner of the branch that I was moving in July and there were no Genesis close to where I was moving and that I had spoken with an employee who told me to wait to terminate my membership. He was very kind upfront and said he would call corporate and I would receive a call to notify me if I would be charged for August. I received NO CALL. It has been over a week so i presume I will be charged $50 for the month of August.Overall, I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the quality of service of Genesis Health Clubs. Although the facility itself is of quality, the quality and culture of the employees is what truly matters when spending this amount of money. All of this to say, I will never recommend Genesis Health Clubs to family or friends.

After knee replacement surgery, trainer helped with pt, after required medical therapy. Rehabilitation was shortened and strengthened. I appreciated the club.

After thanking you for clean cleaning towels last week, this week, AGAIN the gym isn’t open at 5:00 as it should. Multiple members wishing to get in, but nobody. Thursday and Friday morning help at the south gym is awful anyway, texting and reading her phone, out of towels many times, never turns TV’s on and never ever changes out filthy machine cleaning towels.Add now she can’t get here to open. Management needs to step up for the members.

This is my daily 5 AM spot. It is great. The layout is odd at first but works well once my routine settled in. The staff is always friendly. The only slightly suggestion I have is to get rid of one of the Smith machines and get another squat rack. If Im shooting for the stars...maybe a set of bumper plates? 😀 Overall love this place and would highly recommend!

I was charged $150 to cancel my membership on Oct 4th when I only had 4 months left in my 2-year membership ($55/mo. membership).Then over 4 weeks after I cancelled, they charged me an additional $55 just for fun (fine print on the early-termination paperwork).I should have been done with the contract when I paid the overly high contract-termination fee of $150 even though I was almost done with my two-year membership.They are making me pay to stay active essentially for 60 days after the day I walked in to cancel.If I would not have cancelled, I would have ended up paying only $30 more for four months of activity. So I saved $30 by cancelling after 75% of my contract. That is an extremely high cancel fee.Do not get into a contact with them. Look for a month-to-month gym. I have only use the gym once, since June after starting a new job. If you end up moving, you may essentially have to pay as much as if you stayed.

Attended the Back-2-School Block Party awhile back with Midwest Muscle & Joint Clinic. Was very impressed with the facility and the staff was very welcoming and knowledgeable! Cant wait to begin my membership!

I really like this facility! The employees are all very nice and helpful. The facility is kept clean and the locker rooms are nice. I had a personal trainer and he was amazing! He made it fun while giving me a tough workout! I highly recommend this location!

I like the atmosphere, cleanliness, friendly staff and state of the art equipment. Ive never waited long for a machine or piece of equipment. The people that workout here are courteous and respectful. Theres a variety of classes that youre sure to find something you enjoy. And the personal trainers are reliable flexible and well trained.

Love Genesis! They are always very accommodating and helpful. The gym and locker rooms are always very clean. We use every aspect of the gym, including the kid care (amazing!) tennis, weights, classes and cardio equipment. We love their yoga classes! We also love all of the events they do for families and kids. This gym is more than a gym.. its a community. The value for your money is exceptional!

I have emailed the managers 6 times to cancel my membership. I was emailed back ONCE and agreed to pay the termination fee to cancel my membership. However, they continue to charge me - this has been happening for 4 months. Nearly impossible to get ahold of a manager, no matter how many times I email or call.

Excellent gym with newer equipment in great condition. Excellent separation of cable assisted machines, free weights, and cardio area for ease of finding what you want to do. The indoor tennis courts area is massive which is great for not being crowded when playing; the outdoor area is also very large. Day care was a huge selling point for my wife and I so we can workout at any time and our daughter can come along, but is also out of the way. This gym is closer to my house than North Gym, so I do use it more frequently for that reason only. Very polite staff who are excellent in accommodating any needs that I may have. Locker rooms are great - providing security and amenities. Great gym!!

If you’re headed to play tennis at this location, I’d recommend saving your time and turning the car around. Listed as their first “amenities” is their 4 indoor courts, and 6 outdoor courts. But for some reason they require you to pay $18 an hour just to use alone with no lesson. They told me this after playing for an hour and gave me no reason why there is an $18 charge. It really makes no sense why there is a charge when nearly most of the day, the courts aren’t even being used. I plan on never returning to this location and suggest to you fellow tennis players to do the same.

Their equipment, restrooms, and locker areas are nice. The staff is also friendly and helpful. My only complaint is the way they try to gather new members. Genesis has a reputation of calling people nonstop to get them into the club and buy a membership... I made the mistake of giving them a few phone numbers so my friends could enjoy a free trial of the gym (if they wanted), but I asked Genesis not to contact them. Unfortunately, they have been calling every one of them nonstop, from different phone numbers, which is what I asked them not to do. I definitely shouldnt have given them any phone numbers. My recommendation is to do the same. Other than that, the gym is really nice and they have great classes offered every day. Their class schedules change every month, which is nice if youre unable to make a certain day of the week, because then youre able to attend the next month when classes change. Ive heard their boot camp classes are the best! They also offer cycling and Zumba, and some others. I think all new members are given (3?) free training sessions, which is really helpful if youre making a lifestyle change.

This gym is fantastic! It doesn’t have the pool or basketball gym like the North gym, but it is very clean and well kept. I recommend Genesis to anybody that belongs to a gym elsewhere or if you aren’t a member of a gym yet, you should join genesis because they offer help and training to help get you started in the right direction of your goals and do what they can to help you achieve them! Great gym, and don’t let the price scare you away!

Love this place, great for the community

I have been a Genesis member for about a year. I primarily go to South. I can honestly say this gym has exceeded my expectations. Genesis South is friendly and welcoming. Mariah does a great job of ensuring that the culture is positive and upbeat. Beyond that, Ive been training with Joe for about six months. My gains are significant and life changing. I could never go back now. There is no substitute for hard work and dedication. To that end, I get the encouragement I need every day to show up and be my best. Its also worth noting that the facility itself is very well kept. I made the right decision to join Genesis and I highly recommend it.

I love working out at this club and particularly love how friendly all of the staff are. I feel like they go out of their way to treat me like family, check up on me and encourage me! I actually live closer to the other location in town but have not been there because I like this one so much.I have been a couch potato most of my life and felt I might hurt myself if I just tried to do it on my own, so decided to hire a trainer. I am really enjoying learning how to keep myself in shape and finding that doing it slow and steady it really is not that hard. A big thanks to my trainer Brandon for working with me through this! Just wish I hadnt waited so long to find out how enjoyable exercise could be. No matter your age, you can work on making your life better, especially with the help of one of their trainers.

I love working out here. Clean friendly spacious. Working out with a trainer is a huge plus for me. I work with Josh and feel so much “tighter, stronger” than when I work alone or even in a group!

Look it’s a nice gym and with very nice staff, but if I want to cancel my subscription just let me cancel it. Don’t be telling me that it only takes 3 hrs a week to be good and that the hardest thing to do is to go through the door. I know ok just let me cancel the subscription and let me go on my way. It’s simple, still nice gym a lot of things to do but I am poor and I can only afford the 10$ that is for the other gyms so see y’all never.

The salesperson was polite and offered a free day to try out the facility.I experienced very rude, impolite young women (college or grad school) in the small sauna whom discussed highly inappropriate things and would not stop despite very polite requests.I need a gym with respectful, mature adults as members so did not pursue membership. Ive lived in Miami, NYC, DC. Never have I experienced the level of outright rudeness in that sauna. It was distressing. They were extremely immature, extremely self centered and lacked respect and awareness of social norms, or didnt care. So no, not recommended. The salesman said we cant control peoples behavior but oh yes you can, and do already! Lol. Signs that say, please do this or that in the pool/gym/locker rooms all guide members on how to behave. Saunas Ive used have signage that says `Please be respectful in your conversations/mindful of others in sauna, keep voices low etc`.So obnoxious and rude. So no, if youre an adult (of any age) and want to enjoy your sauna/workout/gym time, I dont recommend this place.

The staff at the club are always friendly and helpful, especially in the childcare area. I really appreciate how clean it always is, especially the bathroom/lockeroom area. Im thankful that I didnt need to take out a loan to join. For the amount of opportunities, amenities, and equipment the price is great!

Great club. I love the Centergy class. Im disappointed that I was supposed to get a $20 gift card for my points I had earned, have talked to at least 5 people about it and none of them have figured out how to get it. Also when an instructor didnt show up the manager wrote down all of our names and said he would do something to make it up to us, nothing ever happened.Other than that it is a nice, modern, clean club where anyone can feel welcome.!

The staff is amazing and helpful. I feel at home at this gym. All level of athletic abilities can workout here. There is plenty of space and equipment for all. You will never be bored!

Good gym. Always very clean. I can usually get the equipment or weights I need. I would like to see another squat/power rack in the weight room, as they get taken pretty quickly. Staff was great in getting membership started and got a great signup discount.

They will not stop calling me. They use personal phone numbers to spam me with offers even after telling them no multiple times. Three different phone numbers have texted me today trying to get me to schedule appointment so blocking them doesnt work. I reccommend going to Crunch Fitness in Lawrence instead. Two friends of mine switched to it from Genesis and are happy with the change.

Excellent facility. The training sessions I received from becoming a member set me on a path to success in my personal fitness. Awesome knowledgeable staff. This group is in the know on body science.

The club is nice and clean with only a few issues. There is no water bottle fill up. I guess in Kansas there is no precedent for being green. Also the sauna is cold enough that I get goose bumps and could easily spend all day in there. Turn up the heat or turn it off - what a waste.I like the spin classes.

This club has nice indoor tennis courts. Great variety of cardio machines and weight equipment. Some of the equipment needs to be replaced. I was a bit annoyed when the trainer recommended an exercise with an elastic band, but then was told by the desk that they dont have elastic bands for members to use. Why promote an exercise that you cannot provide equipment for? Why cant they sign out the elastic bands to keep track? There has got to be a better way to do this.

My experience at this Genesis location has been great. I joined over a year ago and have found that the combination of classes, training, and equipment offered have really let me get in my workout any way I want. I appreciate how attentive the manager, Mariah, has been to any thing I bring up. She seems to know the name of almost every member and is willing to help with anything. I have found many of the other trainers to be the same - willing to smile, say hi, and help. The range of equipment is also great - lots of cardio and most lifting. Great gym, and I would recommend it to anyone.

I love this club. The front desk associates learned my name (and somehow nearly every other persons - especially Alena), and are genuine when you see them, the trainers are so polite and say hello even at ungodly early morning workout hours, and the equipment is solid and gets repaired quickly if theres any problem. Love the protein shakes post workout as well!

MANAGEMENT IS HORRIBLE! They don’t do their job properly and when you try to contact them and leave multiple voicemails they don’t respond. So disrespectful and all around unprofessional.

I love this gym! The people that work there are friendly and genuinely encouraging. I havent met one trainer who makes me feel dumb for asking a question or makes me feel unwelcome, even when joining a class after its already started. The classes are free and the variety couldnt be more accommodating.***One thing that may only apply to a few individuals is that they are very accepting and supportive if you have a service animal! I have one for my asthma and all the asked for was the appropriate paperwork to make a copy to keep on file so they wouldnt have to keep asking/checking every time I came in (thankfully, because I come in 3-5 times a week).Overall, just a really awesome group of people and a great atmosphere with options for everyone.

Genesis Lawrence South is the star ship of the Genesis fleet. It is class in all respects! Top notch staff, equipment, surroundings/building, members, ambiance, cleanliness, and parking. The difference between shopping at Nostrums and Walmart. The staff at the desk are especially polite and helpful.This is a well run health club.

I do NOT refer nor do I recommend Genesis to anyone. Legitimately disappointed and appalled of the way the manager, Casey Hamilton, treated a friend and I. I had signed up for a free 7-day pass that is offered on the Genesis website, and went to experience a new place to exercise. Casey, like a used car salesman, had me in his office for a total of 30 minutes asking, “What is holding you back?” from joining the gym a multitude of times to even the point where I felt harassed. Afterwards, I was able to workout. The following day, I told a friend of the gym and he too, since it is clearly offered on the website, signed up for a free 7-day pass. We then went to Genesis where Casey confronted and questioned why I had brought a friend. When I said that he signed up for a free pass, Casey Hamilton told the both of us that he is not in the business of giving out free passes. He sat us down in the office and thoroughly questioned my friend about why he signed up and what his workout plan was to the point that he almost got up and left. Very, very disappointed with the behavior of the manager and will not be returning ever. Can not wait for Crunch Fitness Lawrence to open.

The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The Group Power and Group Blast exercise classes I attend are always full which can be attributed to the great job the instructors are doing. The facility as a whole is keep very clean and the equipment (i.e. weights) are not strung out all over making them hard to find.

This is a great club, with incredible trainers (who are nice and say hello even if you dont use them), and recently remodeled showers and sauna. Some of the equipment could use a little upgrade, and Olympic weights would be fun, but overall everything you need.

I love the atmosphere here. Every team member is encouraging and helpful. I love that it has childcare which makes me be able to get my workouts in even if I have my kids with me.
