Some of the equipment seems to need to be replaced, but overall really enjoy the variety of facilities that this jam packed gym offers. Wide hours are greatly appreciated, and so is the boxing gym and the Olympic lifting dungeon. Just needs some polishing in terms of cleanliness and maintenance.

The Summit is the best neighborhood gym in Lawrence. If you are looking for a corporate gym, where nobody talks to you, you can find them around town. But if you are looking for a gym where they know your first name, with friendly staff and people who actually say hi to you and have conversations, then The Summit is the only one for you.

Ive been a member at every gym in Lawrence, often holding two memberships at once. Theres only one place Ive been a member for 6 concurrent years and that is The Summit. The community is amazing! Whether you just want to get your workout in and get out, are a heavy lifter, or casual, or you want to make awesome new friends, The Summit will make you feel welcomed and wanting to come back. The staff is very genuine and friendly. They will happily help you with whatever you need. The trainers are extremely knowledgeable and all have Degrees and certifications.Their equipment is superb, and they have everything you need. Personally, I have a hard time finding a gym that is able to provide high-quality powerlifting barbells, and weights. Dont worry, if you are a serious lifter, this gym has it all. Not mention the wealth of knowledge to be found by the lifters here.Lastly, Laceys and Elizabeths yoga classes are wonderful.

The only place in town that can accommodate my bizarre heavy bag/rowing machine/treadmill workout. The staff are friendly and make you feel at home. The equipment is in great shape. The free weight machines in particular are of exceptional quality.I am on them to add speed and double ended bags at some point, hope springs eternal.

I’ve been a member of the summit gym for a few months now and have enjoyed the facilities very much. Last week however after using some of the equipment I developed a bacterial infection on my leg which turned into MRSA, an extremely dangerous antibiotic resistant skin infection. I am now in the ER receiving IV treatment for the next 3 days. Cleanliness is an issue. Use caution and wipe down equipment before each use.

VERY reasonable for a week pass for this visitor. This is a full service gym with lots of equipment from a heavy room for the power lifter crowd (they were actually very friendly!) to plenty of functional training equipment and space for that kind of work with all the usual expected machines and racks/benches. Has towel service and lockers *bring your own padlock* They have posted group classes and personal trainers, neither of which I used.

Ive been a long time member and saw the three transitions the gym went through. During this time, the gym was left in disrepair-the 2nd owners were really the worst in this respect, While I appreciate the efforts to renew the equipment, my main problem is the disrespect shown to residents in the building. The gym has had aspirations to fashion itself after a cross between a powerlifting and a crossfit style gym, with the result that it attracts powerlifter wannabes. These people are deadlifting up to 500/700 lbs of weight and dropping it on the floor from 5 am to 11 pm. This causes an earthquake for residents at all odd hours. People in the building have reported this to various management, and nothing was done, ever. It has gotten to the point that asking nicely, being patient (for 7 years) with it getting louder and louder has amounted to naught. It would be uncouth of the owners, clientele, or the trainers who come and go to criticize someone for speaking up or to use pejorative labels to dismiss this opinion. Theres blithe ignorance and dismissal of the tenants in the building-some of whom are THE CUSTOMERS IN YOUR GYM. I should also add that the Summit has been in direct violation of Governor Kellys lockdown orders during March-May closure by letting its powerlifting clients to use the gym, discreetly they thought, in the basement. Unbenownst to the owners, tenants can hear when people are deadlifting, even from the basement, and even on the rooftop floor. Blame the construction of First Management, or use some common sense and think about if theres any insulation that could prevent noise from being transferred when a literal TON of weight is repeatedly dropped on the floor. I have also been a member of corporate gyms with no thumping , no dropping weights rules. For powerlifting to work, the concept is one of a dungeon gym or basement gym that isnt in a multipurpose shared occupancy building-which is someones living room, or dining room, or bedroom. During lockdown, people were deadlifting at 11 pm on a Sunday night, preparing for Olympic lift competitions that were OF COURSE canceled due to the ongoing covid19 fiasco in the US. Perhaps its the partisanship of the owners to prompt them to defy the orders of the Democratic governor, but it was a violation of the rules nevertheless. It is quite disappointing that it takes one to say harsh words to get anyone to listen when all this was put forward politely for years in advance, by multiple people, all falling on deaf ears.

Love this place! The staff is so nice, and the classes they offer are great. Ive met some really awesome people, and have never felt uncomfortable or out of place. People actually use the correct gym etiquette here, and its refreshing.

Great, Great, Great place to exercise and get in shape. I have gone here for over a Year and a half with a really cheap rate also that goes month to month, which most places dont like to do such as Genesis. The trainers are always present and very helpful and Chris Kennedy does an awesome job instructing the Kickboxing classes on Mondays and Wednesdays!

Who ever runs this gym is absolutely terrible at it. There is ZERO maintenance done on the equipment. If something breaks it will sit there with an “out of order” sign for months. I’m not talking about 2 or 3 months.. there is literally a treadmill that has been sitting there with a sign on it for 8 months. And good luck getting another one, because there are only 3.

The gym sucks. The staff is rude and half their equipment is broken. Don’t waste your money here, go to Planet Fitness.

This is the gym that I go to all the time because its closest to my house. Its a little strange there is only one bench press and theres no incline bench press. You have to use a dumbbell incline bench press. That said, they do cater to CrossFit type training here very well. Also, plenty of cardio equipment to go around.
