Great atmosphere. Chaz and the crew keep a clean gym and the trainers are great. Have been working out with Drake for 6 months now and am in peak physical shape. Lots of community events including member nights, holiday events and a basketball tournament

Great place to workout. They have ALL the equipment needed, both free weights and hydraulic. If you need help just ask, theyre are there to help anytime. Its a clean, well maintained business. Nice area. The pool is clean. Everything is clean, lots of cleaning spray bottles are everywhere.

Join literally any other gym.And listen to the other negative reviews. Genesis doesnt like you. They dont care about you. They only want your money, and will continue taking it from you long after your membership should have ended. You can call and email and even speak to them in person about ending your membership and still, nothing will happen. Chas Wiggan is the manager here and he is responsible for cultivating this kind of hate-your-customers attitude. I have no idea why they cannot just treat their members with care, attention, and respect.

Marilyn at the front desk does a fabulous job of taking care of questions, issues, welcoming members, knowing our names and training front desk staff. We really appreciate her.Chaz runs a great club, always responsive to questions and issues.Monica has been very responsive to requests for classes. She teaches a great Silver Sneakers class and has started teaching our water aerobics classes, doing a great job on all fronts!Thank you to all staff for being friendly, being helpful and staying open. Genesis has been a life saver to Tom and me during this COVID period.

Phenomenal service, with all the amenities you could ask for, at a great price! Nice space separation (so you dont have to listen to bros dropping weights and grunting while youre working out!) and reasonable music volumes. Chas was especially helpful, and took the time to show me around and help me feel comfortable at their facilities. I just started working with a trainer who was able to easily accomodate my previous injuries. Only thing that could be better: I wish there were more morning (before-work, ~7am-ish) classes to choose from

Went today check to Northside Genesis since Eastside is closer to our home. Place looks fantastic, clean; everything you want in a gym, and their staff so helpful and friendly.Love their racquetball court and swimming pool.Why Genesis Clinton Parkway does not have racquetball court and swimming pool? It would make it 7 stars place.

My husband and I have been trying to find a place that promotes healthy ways to heal the body. Chas was amazing and helped us tremendously. We have both had bad gym experiences and Chas has reassured us time and time again that this genesis is different and truly cares about its members.

Went to one cycling class to see what the hype was about and I fell in love. The instructor was amazing and full of energy. The other people in the class were extremely friendly and welcoming. Everywhere I went I saw nothing but smiles, everyone was enjoying themselves and getting fit together, real wholesome vibes. When it came to the class it was tough but they encouraged me to go at my own pace and keep at it. I absolutely love this gym!!!

I started working here as a group fitness instructor back in Aug 2020. I have always been impressed by how clean the facility is.There is a great, judgement free environment. I am treated well and the company works hard to help employees be successful.Vanessa does a fabulous job with the Barre class.Heather does a great job with the child swim lessons. She helps the kids feel comfortable and works hard to teach them to respect and be safe in the water.The child care is good. I had a baby during the pandemic and so she is extra stranger averse. The child care staff do a good job trying to make her comfortable. My other daughter loves the toys and floor to ceiling chalkboard.Its also currently the only place in town to take a HIGH fitness class😉

They have been very accommodating and helpful. Im disabled and the staff does everything to help me and make the pool accessible.

I tried 6 cardio machines this morning and all of them were broken. The gym is mostly older and pretty janky. I definitely don’t recommend it, but Lawrence also doesn’t have any good gyms at all

Best gym in the Lawrence area in my opinion. Service is too-notch and everything is always clean and organized. Switching to Genesis instead of Crunch was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time. It has certainly helped me achieve my fitness goals faster! Highly recommend.

Do NOT join this gym. The customer service is horrible. They are impossible to discuss membership issues with and they have charged me extra for almost four months. It is nearly impossible to get a hold of someone to speak to, and they refuse to reimburse money that was mistakenly taken from your account. I had to lug my newborn in there twice to get membership issues taken care of, and tell me it is taken care of and then they just continue to take money out my account.

I have been going to this health club since Jan/Feb... I simply love it... Its well equipped and I simply adore the group activity classes .. am a regular at Zumba and yoga classes 😊

When I come to genesis to workout or even to go swimming. I always have a warm good morning or good evening welcome when I come in and all the workers are really nice there. Katelynn and the rest of the sales people are doing a really good job to get people to come in and check out the gym. The front desk workers are doing a good job as well. The cleaning crew as well is doing a good job. Chaz is a really nice boss and i wouldn’t want to go to any other gym to workout and or go swimming. Genesis is like my second home.

Love the Group Power class—great to get a full body strength workout that also includes some cardio! That class alone is worth the membership fee. Pool and sauna are a bonus!

Chaz and all the staff here is really nice and caring. I appreciate everything they do for us to make us healthy. I love coming to Genesis Health Club because they have everything I need here and I wouldn’t choose to go anywhere else to workout.

Avoid at all cost. The salesmen at Genesis are scammers and the company didnt do anything about it. I moved to Kansas over the summer to work with a few coworkers. I called ahead of us moving out because we work crazy long hours so we wouldnt be able to go in when a salesman was there. We all got gym passes at Genesis but one of the salesmen told us that there was a special going on a couple months before and that he could pro rate it so we could get 1 pass per 2 of us. We thought it was awesome but then the prorate came out to over $100 and then on top of it non of the gym said that the passes worked for 2 people. Complete lie. Then to add to it, i moved out of state because my work was done in Kansas and i called to canceled my membership. They told me i had to come in person! So i called like 5 gyms before i found a manager who said hed send me a form to cancel my membership. (i thought this was weird because im in sales and i never signed anything when i signed up over the phone). They send me the cancelation form and said i needed to pay another months gym membership! They said it was in the agreement i signed! i never signed anything and when i asked them for the form i signed they didnt have anything! They still wouldnt cancel my account, charged me again and they still want another months pay! Its ridiculous! Huge scam! AVOID

Teresa at this Genesis is amazing and makes the most amazing shakes! Everyone is super kind and friendly, I feel very welcome here with a great community. Destiny is also gorgeous and will be the reason I will probably getting a membership.

Overall love to workout here. Don’t have any issues with the equipment. However, they have signs posted that you must wear a mask at all times. They are not enforcing this rule as I see many members working out with out a mask on. I would say about 60% of members don’t wear a mask and the workers are not enforcing this rule. I joined genesis because of how many less people come to workout thinking they would wear their mask. I always see the same people that workout with out a mask and can even point them out to management. Once the masks are enforced, I will change my review.

The crowds that were at the gym before covid havent returned. The atmosphere is much more relaxed these days. Staff is still friendly and helpful.

This place is a joke. The only professional staff on hand is Chaz and even he sh!t on me in the end. I look forward to watching this business run themselves into the ground. O yeah btw I filed a complaint with the better business bureau and am looking in to small claims court. I do not recommend signing anything!! These people are only there for a pay check.

The gym is in ok condition but could be much nicer. Overall my real issues arose around billing for membership. Not only did genesis continue to bill me for nearly 3 months during the initial part of the COVID shut down (I partially understand, tough times for businesses) but they did so with no communication or way to contact them for details. They also randomly charged us a one time fee of nearly $40 per membership for “improvements” without any sort of notification. Not sure if we gave consent in the contract but still feels shady. Lastly, when it came time to cancel our membership the GM gave my partner very non comital answers that he would end the memberships and wave the cancelation fees. Her suspicion was that he was being dodgey to the subject and sure enough we were billed the following month. Not only that but then this guy is dodging our calls. I’m not even a stickler about money but this is crazy. This people are slimey and I would strongly discourage anyone from joining genesis or this gym in particular. I will be talking to the BBB.

This company frequently violates consumer protection laws to take advantage of people for monetary gain. They have no problem misrepresenting their contracts in order to get what they want. If youre looking to essentially be unhappily married to a gym and give them half your stuff in court when you try to divorce them; its for you. If you like being asked weekly if you want to sign up for training or some other service so they can gain more money; its for you. If you like corporatized settings and interactions with little care for your actually needs and goals; its for you.

I love everyone here at the gym. I have a personal trainer Austin Ward whose awesome and very knowledgeable. The front desk staff Marilyn and Gali were very sweet and courteous.

The equipment and tennis at Genesis South was top notch. However after moving 4 months ago and calling to cancel my membership as well as emailing accounts they told me to, I continue to be charged, despite being told every time that this issue was concluded. Its been three months of being lied to and charged repeatedly. Its not only unprofessional at this point its theft.

Lots of great machines, TVs on most machines, great lap pool, big locker/shower rooms, friendly staff. Great place to workout!

My husband has been a member for years and has always had positive things to say about the staff. I just recently joined and have had a very positive experience so far. I like the atmosphere of the North location as it is welcoming and positive. Chaz, the manager, seems to remember everyones name and the staff I have met are helpful. I like that the classes are free with your membership and have already taken the yoga class. The free personal training session was very helpful to get started on using the weights and stationary equipment. I was very impressed with John, a personal trainer, who is excellent in his communication and has a very positive attitude. Im motivated to continue to go there mainly due to the helpful staff who are available if I need any questions answered or have any concerns. Keep up the good work North Genesis!

Genesis is my gym of choice! The staff is friendly and greets me by name as soon as I step through the door. The real bonus though is the quality of the instructors. My zumba instructor is soooo much fun & spreads the zumba love. Amanda is my trainer - extremely knowledgeable and has me looking & feeling absolutely wonderful!

Very slimy place. When Covid happened, the place closed unexpectedly. I understand this, I really do. The part that makes me mad, is that when they re-opened, I tried to cancel to join Crunch (Better prices and more squat racks.) They told me I had to pay even thought it had been 2 days at the beginning. Honestly screw these guys. Very shady with their high pressure sales pitches.Go to Crunch. Its better and has more equipment. Also, I was told at the beginning of my contract that they were going to add squat racks. BIGGEST LIE EVER. I was there for almost 3 years and no new squat racks.

They are THIEVES, and will overcharge you because they are UNTRUSTWORTHY. I would not recommend this business, if thats what you want to call it, to anyone that values their money. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!!!!!!!!

I would give this place less stars if possible. I attempted to cancel my membership, sent the email as requested by Charles Wiggins and was still charged for the following month. I was also charged $160 for my last month of my membership for the “enhancement fee” of gym, which was an additional $80 onto my usual membership. This was understandably upsetting so I spoke with multiple customer services reps who couldn’t seem to help me/referred me back to “Chaz” and one person who told me they could help and I sent her the info and never heard back from her again. I would advise anyone who is considering a gym membership to stay as far away from genesis as possible. There are many month to month memberships that are far cheaper and much more flexible that won’t steal your money and give you a run around.

I live in Olathe but work in Lawrence, and very conveniently, right next door to the 6th Street club. Of all the Genesis locations I have patronized, including multiple sites in the KC metro, this one is hands down the best, in my opinion.Not much excuse to miss a workout, when the gym is 500 feet away, after I get off work. Chas Wiggan and his staff go the extra mile to keep the equipment and the facility in top condition. If there is any concern or issue, Chas will address it immediately, and seems to encourage input from his members. HUGE contrast to other chains, and honestly, quite a contrast to certain other Genesis locations, especially a few of the KC area ones. I have never visited the South Lawrence location, however.The staff is friendly, and are all very proactive, regarding the pandemic. Your temperature is taken upon entry, the staff are all in masks, and members are, for the most part, respectful of the Covid restrictions, (distancing, masks, and cleaning equipment before and after use).Lots of unique equipment here, as well. A rope climbing machine, upstairs, is now my new favorite cardio machine. The only thing I would complain about, is the lack of calf training machines. Only one is available, but you can improvise with a Smith Machine for some variety, if you wish.. Otherwise, there is a great variety of machines and weight benches.Their bar, after a workout, is clean and inviting for a post workout protein shake or smoothie. One unique thing about this location....if carbo loading is your thing..there is beer on tap, along with happy hour prices. :) By no means a tavern, nor is it meant to be, but it can be fun to have a beer with a workout buddy, and relax a bit, after a hard workout.They occasionally host social events, like St Patricks Day and Pre Super Bowl appetizers and a beer. I have found this to be a fun way to get to know the staff, and for the staff to build rapport and initiate friendly conversation with members.There are also an abundance of free classes and workshops. A pool, hot tub, Sauna and Spa, all clean and well kept. Lastly, there are trainers available, for a fee, if a person so desires. On that point, I have never felt pressure to sign up for personal training, but it is available, if one wishes.Sadly, not all Genesis locations are at this same level of professionalism and dedication to its members, as this one. I think management, here, is the major difference. If youre looking for a good gym in the Lawrence area, I very highly recommend this facility.

Ive heard good and bad things about this gym. I decided to give this gym a chance and joined in November 2020. Unfortunately, while I was choosing my classes I found out that they were going to be online due to covid. I tried calling several times trying to get in contact with the manager, and I was told that he would give m a call back... he never did. I ended up calling again and was finally able to reach him. I told him my situation and why I needed to cancel, I asked him if I was going to be charged anything and he said I wasnt. Well today I checked my bank statement and it showed a $68.86. charge... even though I had canceled since November and now we are in February 2021. I called the manager and he said he was going to talk to his manager since he hasnt worked there for long... then he proceeded to give me the number for corporate, I called corporate and they keep transferring me around. Honestly, double check if you want to join this gym. The management sucks here!

I have been the membership for years. Because of Covid, i want to cancel the membership and wait covid end and re-join the club. However, the Customer Service tell me i cant cancel the membership by phone and hang up on me immediately.

On Aug 18th we went to the genesis health club and one of the managers talked about an offer that he could give us for $77 for the couple. he said we have 3 days to think about it and if we dont like it we can cancel it. we paid $42 for registration and then used the swimming pool which was so cold, and it was not clean enough. after 24hours I called to cancel our membership and they said I have to talk to the manager and there wasnt any manager there. I called again a day after and asked them to cancel it and they said they will do it. but I didnt get any refund. On the first day if September they charged me $77 I called them again and asked them and explain to them what happened and they told me they will cancel it immediately. after a 1month which I didnt receive any refund I call headquarter and told them the story and asked them to solve my problem, they said they will work on it. on September 29th I called them again and everything repeated, at this time the manager Chas told me he will put a note and will take an action to solve it immediately. But on Oct 1 they charged me $77 again. each time they told me it takes time to process. 2 months were not enough to take process??? I didnt want to call my bank and disputed the charge but they didnt give me any other options. I can say they have the worst customer services Ive ever seen.

The only thing I really like about the gym is steamroom!! A lot of the equipment was outdated and the place wasnt clean. And with covid-19 around, I thought the towel and spray bottle is/was a bad idea, for the price youd think they would invest in paper towel dispensers. When you are using the same towel to wipe off your machine that someone just used to wipe off their machine your not getting anything clean.

My family loves everything in Genesis North. Friendly staff, awesome childcare, the variety of equipment. I really enjoy the swimming pool and yoga classes. I highly recommend this place to everyone, especially for parents who want to work out without worrying about their kids to be in a safe place.

The place is nice, enjoyed taking yoga classes there. However, I would agree with those mentioning the difficulties they faced trying to cancel the membership. Took me several phone calls (and being on hold way longer than I wanted to) to find out that the cancellation documents can only be signed in person. Wish their administrators had just told me that right away rather than trying to transfer me to their manager. When visited them to sign the form, had to wait for the manager for 10 minutes to just leave my signature on the cancellation form, and then pay the cancellation fee (which I was aware of). Why could not that be done over the phone since they had my card info? Who knows...

The place is perfect. They offer a lot of classes for their members.They have a good salt water pool and have some exercise class taught at the pool. It was great to work out when you have knee issue.They also provide towels and have shampoo& shower gel at their locker. It would be a great to excise before you go to work.Best of all is they have a half of the basketball court. You can play basketball with your friends there.Worry free place and totally enjoy being their members

I love the North Lawrence location. The staff there are awesome. Everyone from the front desk to management is great. Staff are really friendly and go out of their way to make people feel welcome. The trainers are professional and very knowledgeable. Ive trained with Shannon, Cody, and Marc and they are all amazing and really help me stay motivated to be my best. Great club!!

I enjoy working out at Genesis! The classes are amazing and all classes included in my monthly dues. There is always enough room in the classes and the instructors are fabulous! My favorite class, by far, is Barre! Low impact, low weights, high results!The staff is very friendly and I always feel like I have a team cheering me on when I am there. Equipment is well maintained and I have never had to wait on machines to get in my workout.

Been a Genesis member since 2013. Like some things about both the North and South clubs. Just renewed membership, though wont actually workout at either till vaccine.

DO NOT BECOME A MEMBER HERE!!!!Although this is a very long review, I feel as though other people deserve to know what they are signing up for when becoming a member at Genesis Health Club.It is quite apparent that the employees are uneducated when it comes to the company’s policies and will confidently share incorrect information. This is extremely frustrating as I, the client, suffer financially as a result of the incompetence of a staff member. Genesis Health Club’s first priority is the financial gain they will receive from you being a member with them and couldn’t care less about your experience as a customer. I have been a loyal member to Genesis for over 4 years. That’s roughly over $2,000 I have spent despite multiple less than ideal encounters with staff members over the years. The most recent altercation is a good example of the quality of service you may have if choosing to become a member at Genesis Health Clubs.After expressing I wished to terminate my membership roughly 6 months after my contract was completed, Genesis still required me to pay the month of August. I had expressed in May that I would be moving and wished to have July be my last payment and was told I needed to wait until closer to the time I was leaving and was never given a date I needed to notify them by. I assumed a month prior would be sufficient and when I went in to terminate my membership I was told that there were no notes in my file that I was terminating and that I would have to pay for August. I expressed to the owner of the branch that I was moving in July and there were no Genesis close to where I was moving and that I had spoken with an employee who told me to wait to terminate my membership. He was very kind upfront and said he would call corporate and I would receive a call to notify me if I would be charged for August. I received NO CALL. It has been over a week so i presume I will be charged $50 for the month of August.Overall, I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the quality of service of Genesis Health Clubs. Although the facility itself is of quality, the quality and culture of the employees is what truly matters when spending this amount of money. All of this to say, I will never recommend Genesis Health Clubs to family or friends.

Ive been to clubs before and Genesis is the best one I have ever had, its a pleasure to train there, first the space is huge, and its rare to wait for a machine, their machines are new and they keep adding new ones, and lastly the staff is very friendly. Cody is the best trainer I ever had, and I managed to gain muscle mass thanks to him. Reasonable price - did I mention ??

Such a great place to go blow off steam on a cardio machine or join a class. I love the barre classes and then swimming or sitting in the (private womens) steam room to loosen up before getting put together in the updated locker rooms.So many great features of this gym and the childcare is top notch too!

Genesis of Lawrence - North is the best gym in all of Lawrence! It has enough equipment that Im never waiting for what I want to do, but not so much that it take 15 minutes to walk from one side to the other. The locker rooms are top notch - security and amenities. Cardio specific rooms - treadmills/elliptical/stair masters/bikes, spin class, and yoga areas - are separated from the rest of the gym for convenience. As a father the two best features are the day care and pool. I use these frequently and the entire family is able to exercise and have fun.

This place is incredible! All of the workers are nice and seem to really care about the health of the members. The equipment is always in working condition and the area is also very clean! My favorite thing was how they worked with me on prices and made it affordable for me.

I ended up signing with Genesis for the pool. On weeknights its usually pretty easy to get your own lane. They also have a good variety of equipment, good size locker room, and a very solid class schedule. I particularly like the hot yoga classes, and I believe there is about 4 of them a week. On the downside, I wish it didnt take so long to check in. You have to hand them your membership key card to scan, and if someone in front of you has other business or inquires it usually means you have to stand there waiting (and end up late to a class). The other thing that bothers me is the wet sauna isnt as hot as I would like or gets shut off early in the evening sometimes.

During the pandemic, they worked with clients to make the gym as safe as possible and installed air filtration systems. It makes the membership feel very valuable over cheaper offerings

Ive been impressed with Genesis thus far, Ive been a member for about a month. The personal training is great, the morning group Spin classes with Tom are a blast, and the facility is well maintained. I tried out several other local gyms before Genesis, and I felt this gym offered the best value for your money. Plus, I travel often, so I appreciate that they have clubs all over the Midwest I can enjoy wherever I go!

The ladies locker room is always clean. I have heard many women personally thanking the lady who keeps it clean through the busy morning. There are lots of women swimming and working out then showering there and it would be easy for it to quickly get dirty. Usually you dont see locker rooms kept clean that way, this is why I work out at this gym.

I won a free month membership here, and when i went in to redeem it they hassled me into signing up for a membership, which i was happy to do given the discount they offered and how they prided themselves on being a family. However, as soon as i signed up that family mentality was gone. After 5 days they charged me fees (I was supposed to have a free 30 days before the membership started). When I talked to the manager about the charges, he acted clueless and didnt seem to care because hed already gotten the money from me.Also, as a member i got to sign up 5 friends for a 30 day pass, i notified my friends as they were telling me this information. When my friends went in to workout, they tried to sign them up as well. However, once they said no - they wouldnt stop calling my friends trying to get them to sign up. Also, they notified my friends that it was only a 15 day period, which is not what they told me.This is not a family environment like they a advertise - it is a sales environment where they only care about the money. And once they get your money, your customer satisfaction doesnt matter to them.

Ive been a member since the opening. I love taking classes on a daily basis and the instructors make working out fun and challenging. The staff is always friendly and the facilities are clean. My husband and I have used their trainers and have found them to be helpful, task oriented, but not too pushy. My day starts with Genesis!

The class schedule is jam packed, lots of options for a huge range in time frames. Yoga flow with Lilly on Tuesdays and Thursdays is a must for me! Heart selection of machines on both floors and not to mention a great view out the wall of windows. Nicest gym Ive ever belonged to.

Great people, great atmosphere, great equipment, very clean and sanitary
