Ive been going there for years and Ive never had a bad experience. Its hard to find a dentist to trust. I moved to downtown but still head to La Mesa to see them because I feel very comfortable there. Ive never had a surprise bill, Ive been able to make appointments, and the staff are gentle (because I am a total wimp when it comes to dental work). I highly recommend them.

Ive had some great dental work done here. But Ive also been rushed. So make sure you ask a lot of questions. For the most part, my dental work has been great.Side note: my first time here was hard to find the office. Ive added some pictures below. Its on the third floor closer to the middle stairway.

Be careful when you let them do a filling on your teeth. They said I had a slight amount of decay between my molars located on one tooth. Next thing I know after prep for a filling and while looking in a mirror, I see half of my molar has been shaved down including most of the crown. Thats not hyperbole. I feel like my tooth is ruined. My other dentist shaved down minimal tooth while performing a filling. Why was this necessary? Also dental work is broken up into too many appointments. Nice looking office though, too bad the product isnt up to par.

Finally a decent and honest HMO Office! Had horrible time with Town Center Dental over the years for pressure to up sale. These guys are quick, no BS and down to business. Im pretty picky and these guys are awesome! FINALLY! Thanks Affinity! You ROCK!

I love how friendly and knowledgeable the staff is. My experience was fun and enlightening. I enjoyed knowing what was happening and was able to ask questions without feeling like I was rushed or being under cared for. I also really enjoyed the fact that my Dentist took the time to explain everything and brought it all down to terms I could understand. It was a refreshing experience to have a good understanding of whats going on, without the hassle of trying to remember large words to look up later. I have given Affinity Dental great reviews and will continue to do so. Thank you!

Professional courteous clean office. So far so good. I have been seeing them now for about a year and am quite pleased. I just wish they could give me an appointment 6 months out. As of now you have to call three months away to get an appointment. Oh well

Best dentist Ive had in at least 2 decades, possibly the best ever. The staff is friendly, informative, patient and EFFICIENT! I have nothing bad to say about them. great experience, every time. The cleaning is quick but thorough, the repair they did on a tooth years ago remains undetectable and flawless, the office is updated and modern....I will never look for another dentist again. The best dental experience Ive ever had - and Ive been to many dentists! Every staff member was kind, helpful, and intelligent. I overheard the two women at the front desk complimenting each other on their abilities right when I walked in (positive people all around). I was given a clear understanding of my dental issues with instruction on how to care for them. Dr. Alan & his son are fantastic people (and props to Diana, shes awesome, too).Go here if you need a new dentist!

The office staff is professional, the front desk ladies are welcoming, and the office itself is clean and beautiful, but...My last couple of visits there were very disappointing.I came in there for a cleaning and checkup. Dr. Michaels was very nice. He told me that my teeth were good and that I did not need anything besides a regular cleaning which I was about to get. The hygienist, however, was rude. She was lecturing me on how to brush and floss as if I was a ten-year-old and tried to set me up for a deep cleaning I did not need.Next time I took my daughter there, again for cleaning and a consult. I knew that my daughter needed a filling and a crown. She saw a different doctor. This time it was a young female; unfortunately, I dont remember her name. She said my daughter needed a crown instead of a filling, and an implant instead of a crown. Her assistant was trying to scare us into buying what we did not need, again. She was telling my daughter, who was 18 at the time, horror stories about receding gums and crowns falling out. All that in an effort to upsell. I decided to get a second opinion, and I am glad I did.I really liked that office in the past. I have been taking my kids there for many years. But all their staff and doctors changed and their values and ethics are not the same any more. I will be looking for a different dentist.

I was dreading my first appointment because I had not been to a dentist in years. I chose them from their positive reviews online. When I arrived I found a comfortable, state-of-the-art office with very knowledgeable and caring staff they made me feel very comfortable. I also found that they were very honest with what needed to be done versus what was a cosmetic choice. The second visit was just as great the work was virtually pain free and turned out beautifully. They kept me comfortable and informed all the way through the process. This was the best dental experience I have ever had. They are now the dentist for whole family.

Good work when you can get in.They seem to be incapable of making an appointment online.I receive e-mail reminders, request dates, and never hear anything back.

Overall the staff is great and they have great services... less the appointment system they currently utilize. No matter what time you show up there will be a solid 20 minute wait before you are seen .... even IF you arrive early. Who ever is managing the current system needs to review the current policies and develop a new system.

Okay so this is place is definitely in the top for me. Dentist are scary even if you take 100% great care of your teeth. I had a eating disorder growing up that had destroyed my 6 front teeth. They were becoming see through on the bottoms and you could see the dentin part receding. It affected my talking to potential jobs and just made me become extremely introverted. Im applying to nursing school in September and I knew if I didnt fix my teeth I wasnt going to cut it through classes and progressing in my career. So we took the plunge and went to dr. Michaels. He was extremely up front about everything. He was honest, took the time to answer questions and was very caring. The hygienist were amazing and the front desk ladies are very helpful. I made the appointment for 2 weeks later and saved my money.Day of appointment: they put me in a calming room, were extremely caring and attentive and helped keep me calm through everything. I got all 6 front teeth caped. I had temporaries put on that no one could tell were fake. ( temporary teeth suck so bad but its only temporary and it does get better) lived off mortrin and smoothies for a week. I had the dental hygienist Michelle that put them on and she took her time making sure my bite was perfect. Nothing worst than hitting teeth when youre numb.Last appointment: go back in for my permanent set. My goodness my gums are killing me but they got the temporary out fast and once again Michelle took her time with me and made sure everything was perfect for me. She even offered to put on temporary glue so I could make sure if the color was right. ( I didnt; the color was perfect already)So heres what you need to take from my experienceI paid $3259.00 for 6 front teeth to be capped. I have Dental insurance but this is considered cosmetic. The worst part is hearing the noise as they grind the teeth for placement ( youre numb its just so loud) but as of now I feel like I can finally take my life back. I can finally accept that Ive truly healed from my eating issues because this closed the book on having to see the reminders each time I would smile before. Im so happy to finally have some of my life back. You dont realize how much of your personality sits right in your smile.100% would do it over again if given the chance.

Everyone is very caring and professional, from the front desk assistants to the X-ray good natured lady, to the doctors. You rock! Unfortunately lately I have had to have a lot of work done, but glad Im having you all to come to to get taken care of!

I dont know where to begin because there are so many issues with this dental office.Lets start with the receptionist: extremely unprofessional, rude, not knowledgeable of front end receptionist procedures. If you are not medically training dont attempt to give me dental advice but be familiar with insurance protocols!Doctors vs Hygienist: If I have a toothache they can get me in with a doctor to reccomend a few crowns or a root canal that will cost a $1,000+ within a day or two with no problem. If I want to do routine maintenance with a hygienist to prevent needing $1,000 work-up ooh no, were booking two months out for cleaning . I vote for more hygienist to accommodate the high demand of routine maintenance needed!Michels vs Per Diem Doctors: If I am apart of the Michels Family and suppose to be treat like so then inform me that one of the Michels will not be available the day of my appointment but you have this other GREAT doctor! I previously discussed a whole different care plan with one of The Michels and this float doctor doesnt know what it is!Back-office Medical staff: I have had cavities filled, crowns put on and other work and was never offered to rinse the blood out or particles. I would go into the lobby and spit in the trash can near the water dispenser so I can speak to make my follow up appointment. One day I finally asked the medical assistant in the back where is the old school little spit /mouth rinse dish she said eww thats nasty we dont have those! Normally patient ask to go to the sink! Excuse me I never got the memo those were obsolete!Respect for patients: You call me for a same day hygienist appointment, oh my lucky stars I am so grateful. I rearrange my work schedule, ask my boss if I can take my lunch at a certain to make it to my dental appointment. My appointment was booked for 3pm. I clock out at 240pm. Im in the next building so sign in for my dental appointment at 245pm. 320pm I havent been called back! The receptionist said, you havent been called back yet, you were here before the last family! I was livid, you wasted my time and energy! I left without my cleaning that is a year overdue. Over due because this office has no respect for their patients time. This is the third time this has happened to me and I had to cancel because my time was irrelevant to them!

They always take really great care of me and my family. Ive been with them for a few years now - I went through them for my invisalign braces and Ive been treated well from day one! They are really patient with my little ones and never force them to do anything scary when it comes to annual cleanings. The staff are all nice and Ive never had an issue scheduling appointments.

Great place, nice staff & new decor.But,Could they have have worse service? The first time I went in to their office I had already filled out all the necessary paper work and I still waited 30+ minutes to get in to get X-Rays as I watched others come in after me and be shuttled right into the back for their procedures!If that wasnt bad enough, after my X-Rays I waited for the dentist for another 30 minutes only to have him come in and have him not even do an exam and he said it was because I had braces! I have had braces for years and never before was this an issue with any other dentists.So I try to be patient and leave to go set up my appointment for a cleaning, 30+ days! Are you kidding me!?!?So I make the appointment... I then call later that week to get put on the wait list for an earlier appointment, 30 days come and go. No word from Affinity Dental...Last minute I have to reschedule due to reasons beyond my control, so I call and the next earliest appointment: 27 days later!It turns out I will be out of town that day, do you have anything earlier? I say. She says lets just put you down for that and Ill put you on the waiting list... people cancel all the time! (ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I just waited 30+ days for a TEETH CLEANING!!!) But I stayed calm and expressed that I might have to look for a new dentists office because they are clearly too busy and dont have time for me then I tell her I will just opt for the waiting list and to top it all off she hangs up on me! Perfect end to a great situation....Think Ill get a call back?I would avoid this place unless you can wait 30+ days and have plenty of free time to wait!

Our family dental office for years. The staff is super friendly and professional. We never had any problems or surprises here. Cant go wrong with Affinity Dental in my opinion.

This is an ethical and professional place. They are skilled dentists. My whole family has received care from age 5-17. The are able to get clients in in a timely manner. They only con is that sometimes the appointment times run late.

I am a recent client of Afinity Dental and I found the dentists and office staff to be very friendly and helpful. I had a crown put in and everything went smoothly very smoothly. Highly recommended.

Ive never had a cavity in my life. My sons and I have been going to Affinity Dental for many years for our cleanings. Unfortunately I cracked my molar eating ice and had to get a crown. I was so worried it would be painful and super uncomfortable, but the experience was so easy! Dr. Michels is great!

I could not even wait in the waiting room in this place because they have a plug-in smelly pot which results in an intense chemical odor which my body instantly reacts to. We tried to arrange with them for me to arrive first thing in the morning and they agreed not to turn it on. When I got there, they had it running again, and I had to exit quickly. I can still taste the sickening odor. Get this, I asked them to please unplug it and they refused. If you would rather not have smell burnt crayons all day, dont go to this dentist!

I know it sounds crazy but I enjoy coming to this office. I always receive excellent care here and feel very well attended to. I would recommend Affinity to anyone (especially friends and family).

Im a patient going on 3 years. I find everyone who works there to be professional & friendly. Office seems to be very well run as I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes.

Very disappointed that I went in with a major tooth ache and requested more than once to be given something to help with the pain. They did nothing including the doctor who disregarded my request. Now several hours after my appointment, I’m still miserable waiting on a prescription. Poor customer service!

I have been with them several years and have not been too happy with the quality of the final product. Paul Michaels is a nice enough person, but he is not keeping a finger close enough to the pulse of his office. Or is he just as unscrupulous as his manager? Hmmm, that would be a sad revelation!I have always thought the financial staff/Mirna is RUDE, and it was confirmed once again last time I went in...I was told that their office no longer offers porcelain fused to metal crowns, to which I inquired PFM is what my insurance covers at $250 copay but you are trying to sell me an $850 porcelain crown. What if I dont want the emax? The assistant simply stated then we WONT be doing your crown--in other words, go find another dentist that will. I am currently on the computer and phone for referrals to another dental office. Mirnas attitude and portrayal of their business makes me feel that, even if i had tons of $ and could afford to pay whatever they wanted, out of pocket, I no longer wish to give them the satisfaction of trying to earn my $ (and I have still quite a bit of work that will need to be done in the coming years). Shady billing/business practices, upselling and RUDE staff-Mirna are the reasons I am working to find a new place to take my business. Affinity is going to and has in the past lost business due to office staff!

I called and got a same day appointment and without having insurance and was provided with a automatic discount and affordable no interest plan by a very helpful girl named Brandi. Very nice people and Dr. Michels is very upfront and honest with you. I am glad I switched from my old dentist. Even worth the slightly longer drive.

I liked them at first, Dr. Michels, the receptionist, the lobby etc.....but then felt as if both my husband I were in a used car lot after the X-ray part. I felt that way when I needed a cleaning and you could use the regular or antibiotic rinse I believe.. I was talked into the antibiotic rinse for an extra $50. Ok.. but Id already paid for the whole thing because I got the Groupon because I didnt have insurance. So I thought that was shady. The worst was when my husband came in 3 times for a cleaning and the X-rays. 3 times and NO cleaning was done!! They told him they cant until they remove a cracked tooth and take care of those big problems first. Ok Why??? Those teeth need to be cleaned too and not after a bigger procedure is done first. Nobody told him over the phone that that wont be done at all either. So we had no choice but to find some other dentist with his insurance that will do the routine cleanings without a run-around.

I am absolutely terrified of dentists and all and any dental work which isunfortunate, as it has probably been the catalyst for a good deal of my teeth issues. I had nagging problems for some time with an implant and when it became impossible to put the care of it off any longer, I started researching fervently for a dentist and decided on Dr. Michels at Affinity. After thorough inspection by Dr. Michel and his staff and being walked through what my xrays showed, I discovered I had to have some fairly intense work done: removal of implant, bone grafting due to bone loss and a bridge instead put in its place due also due to bone loss, not to mention dealing with an infected bone/jaw from it. Lord help me for waiting so long. My work is not completed yet, but I have to say, the work Dr.Michels has done has been the most caring and pain-free work I have ever had done. I have been amazed. Every one who came in contact with me showed a genuine concern for my well-being and, in my case, consideration of any apprehension or fears I had, and were patient and caring. I never felt like I was being rushed through, or that I was using too much of the Drs or anyones time in any questions I had. The Dr kept asking me throughout the proceedure if I was okay and explained everything he was doing as he worked. The entire staff, from the reception at the front to any and all assistants were professional, patient and very personable and made me feel very comfortable. I am very pleased to recommend this dental practice without hesitation.

I was rushed on all my apointments.once they got my money they kept breaking my apointments up doing a little at a time,very shady.this is my fourth visit and every apointment they do a little and reshedule me a week or two later instead of taking care of a patient in pain.its like a dental factory just over booked all time.if i would have known they were going to take my money and spread easy work into six apointments because there over booked and i have great insurance i would have never started treatment here.i feel so bad im in pain and have to wait a long time for help.this is not a place if you need lots of fillings they cant handle extensive work in a short period of time, only quick work and wont tell you until after pay

I am so very grateful to have been at the right place/right time: a dentist who is experienced enough, and an office that has the tools necessary to accomplish the task! A routine extraction turned out to be more difficult than anyone had expected.Thank you, Dr. Olinger, for a completely painless experience during the hour and a half you had to slave over me (love that Novocain!) AND for needing no pain meds afterwards. Looking forward to having the stitches removed soon!

I had been a previous Affinity patient but had not been in for 3 years or so. Then last week I broke my rear molar at the base eating a hard candy; and went right to the Office the next day with absolutely NO appointment. They had me in....

I was referred to Affinity Dental, and boy were they right. My experience was nothing short of exceptional. I was in and out in a very short time and received excellent service and attention-to-detail. The entire staff, from Mirna, Brandee, Anjelica, and Diane was informative, personable and very hospitable - Dr. Paul Michaels was excellent as well. He took the time to go into detail, so that I could fully understand the procedure and course-of-action. You can tell everyone really cares here. I would/will definitely recommend Affinity Dental of La Mesa to everyone I know.

Dr. Michaels is the best!BUT the admin staff is the worst. Once again they say one thing and do another. Today, I was to go in for a simple cleaning (which they dont make any money on), instead they had made the appointment for an overdue exam and xray (codewords for sales pitch of overpriced services).Both ladies behind the counter were unsympathetic and unprofessional. The clerk was wearing a tight little dress showing off her goods, and the so-called manager was rude and uncaring about their service failure.Im looking for ANY other dentist that has at least an iota more about what theyre doing than this place.

Very dissapointed after my visit today. Ive been here to see Dr. Michells on 7 occasions! This guy is a very excellent Dentisit. I hadnt seen a dentist in many years with no insurance. Paul made me feel very comfortable on my first experience going into detail on everything that needed to be done with worst case scenarios. As much work as I needed done Paul built me a dental plan. I was very happy with his description of what needed to be done. When i say this guy is good I mean it, but then came Luis the billing guy, the one I was scared of. Lol. Knowing my bIll was going to be very big, I was nervous. Luis made me feel calm going over the billing and ensuring me my insurance was going to cover a very big portion of the money due for this plan built by Paul after he submitted the plan to the insurance company. Basically after getting a loan Luis offered, I was promised my smile would be back to healthy with 1500 still being owed out of pocket that would cover the permanent porcelain bridge. That would leave me with a healthy mouth and a temp bridge. Only waiting on payment for permanent bridge. ALL OTHER MONEY DUE IS PAID. Throughout my next 6 visits I was ensured that the plan is on track with no billing change which was my biggest concern.. Working on the project and running out of money and left with a crumbling mouth. Well today I visit the office and get all new x-rays and get to see Paul again great guy tells me the work needed to be done is still on plan great visit with him. Next here comes a new billing lady not Luis like usual. All of a sudden with the same plan aND less work needing to be done and having a $2500 credit and $1300 my insurance is paying for the year Im told I owe and additional. $5000.00. With my mind in shock and nightmare coming true I demanded an answer on why the billing had changed. She starts talking about antibiotics and weird codes I didnt know what she was taking about. Long story short I was treated horribly by its billing lady. She told me I could leave the office and never come back and that I was suspended from the system and my credit with the company would be returned to the credit card. All I can say is WOW just WOW the doctrine will go into detail over every little bit of work he will do. But with this billing lady u couldnt even get an answer on what changed since the original plan I was told Im not.supposed to understand I get a final printout and after 8 months of no visits today I was billed $795 with a PPO ADJUSTMENT as the bill... AFFINITY DENTAL I AM PRAYING FOR A RESPONSE!!!! You guys are amazing and one person ruined my experience on the it visit I hope you guys make this right just like the 1 other issue that happened and Geraldine stepped right up and fixed in the matter of 5 min!
