Dr. Colacchio not only gave me a hip replacement, he gave me my life back. At age 65, I was suffering from end stage osteoarthritis, complicated by my mild cerebral palsy (CP) affecting the operative side. Its now been 2 months since my surgery and I have gone from bouts of depression, anxiety and planning for a wheelchair to grinning like crazy at my new mobility and independence. Dr. C. understood (and fixed) my complexities and explained every step before, during and after surgery. Definitely, one of the best things that ever happened to me.

I had a total knee replacement done by Dr. Nicholas Colacchio on May 21, 2021. I was understandably somewhat anxious prior to the surgery. Dr. Colacchio and his staff were great to work with. I was already doing physical therapy prior to the surgery, and this helped a lot with the post-surgery recovery. I also attended one of the knee replacement classes hosted by Maine Medical Center which helped me understand what to expect with the surgery and post-op recovery. However, the biggest benefit was Dr. Colacchio and his staff. I was able to ask questions by calling in or through the patient portal, and got quick, helpful responses. They were also very helpful with the insurance and short-term disability paperwork. I highly recommend working with this wonderful group of people if you need to have a joint replacement done.

In November 2020, I had a much needed hip joint replacement during the pandemic. The ENTIRE team at Maine Med was amazing from start to finish. From x-rays to education, everyone did their jobs to perfection! They answered every question, explained every step and ensured I knew what to expect during recovery and was prepared.But the icing on the cake was when Dr. Colacchio called me at home the night before surgery to see if I had any remaining unanswered questions and to reassure me that all would be ok and that I should have a nice dinner and try to get a good nights rest. Love him!!! Ive never heard of a surgeon ding this before. (All you surgeons out there take notice!)He was in my room within hours to check on me. I loved that he showed me the fluoroscope images for each step of the replacement. Very fascinating! This is your surgeon, if you want respectful, compassionate, competent and thorough care. you could not be in better hands.I cant thank you enough, Dr. Colacchio, this surgery has changed my life :)

I was very impressed with how he spent the time to go over every detail with me. He is very genuine when he talks to you and he really listen to you.

I have to admit I was afraid to get the new guy but I am so very happy I did! Dr Collacchio was thorough, explained everything to me before and after . His bedside manner was the best and encouraged me to call with any questions . I had a total hip replacement and I was back to work in 2 1/2 weeks with no PT !!! He is absolutely the BEST and far advanced in knowledge and operating technique . I cannot say enough good things about him and I am telling MY patients where i work all about him , i have his business cards at my desk ready to hand out as people have seen how quickly I recovered and want to know who he is !!

No finer physician than Dr. Colacchio! He has all the qualities one needs as a doctor - strong knowledge in his specialty, excellent work ethic, professionalism, good listening skills, an understanding and caring manner, a passion and commitment. Everyone associated with him in his practice also shows kindness, caring, excellence in their work and dealings with you, the patient. I had three dislocations from a surgery done elsewhere and needed revision surgery. I feared I might have to travel to Boston or New York, but fortunately found Dr. Colacchio right here in Falmouth/Portland who had expertise in the dual mobility implant which he agreed would provide me with greater range of motion and lesser chance of further dislocations. He and staff worked me in to their schedule so that within a months time I had this surgery - and with success! I highly recommend and have the greatest respect for this wonderful doctor!

I had a left hip replacement in January 2019. I could not be happier with the results and the experience with Dr. Colacchio. He comes recently to Maine from other joint replacement surgery facilities in Boston and North Carolina. He brings cutting edge expertise to his procedures. In my case, I experienced very little post surgical pain and what I thought was a very short recovery. I am convinced this is largely due to the surgical techniques he uses. In addition to his surgical skills, Dr. Colacchio also addressed all questions and concerns professionally and throughly. If you are looking at a hip replacement, the Maine Med Joint Replacement group and Dr. Colacchio is your best bet in Maine.
