My teenage son and I have been going to Evanston Eye Care for the last 5 years. Paulina, who works the front desk and makes all the arrangements has always responded to calls and questions right away. She has gone over and beyond to help us when we had last minute needs. Now that the office is on main street we have also been very happy with Dr. Shapiro.She is kind and explains things very carefully, leaving the patient time to ask any questions or answer any concerns. Recently I had to pick out frames and was feeling very lost. Paulina spent over an hour listening to what I was looking for helping me decide. I am very happy with the frames she helped me pick and i get lots of compliments on them ! Evanston eye care is professional, helpful and reliable. I would recommend them to anyone!

Im pretty picky about frames and they were patient and helped me explore all color options for a specific larger frame from Ray-ban. The store is conveniently located for me and I can get in and out quickly or confirm things over the phone.

Found this store near my place that was able to give me a very COVID safe eye exam. They were very patient while helping me pick out glasses and while teaching me to put in contacts for the first time! Very fast, kind and efficient!

I moved to Evanston just before the pandemic. I was long overdue for a check up and went to Evanston Eyecare at the end of August. They were so professional, COVID-safe and Polina is so incredibly helpful in navigating insurance, logistics, and picking out glasses frames that will fit my face. Really happy with my experience, and look forward to continuing to receive my Eyecare from them!

Ive seen many optometrists over the past 20 years and this is the best practice/office Ive found. Paulina is exceptional at her job - I mean customer service that is real, genuine, human, and leaves you feeling like you matter. Not the fake smile, overly effusive, waste your time, red tape kind of experience thats so common today. They are prompt, knowledgeable, and go out of their way to be helpful. Also, Dr. Shapiro is a treat to visit. Shes fantastic.

I have been getting my glasses at Evanston Eyecare for the last several years; I like the services and enjoy coming here. This year, I ordered a new pair of glasses and, as usual, was very happy with them. However, a few months later, one of the lenses had to be replaced. Paulina was very understanding and supportive, ordered a new lens and made sure it was just right, which I really appreciated. I would not go anywhere else.

Great Story: So, I broke my RayBan sunglasses at soccer practice and well, they are my favorite sunglasses. I took them into Evanston Eyecare today, showed them to the woman behind the counter. She looked at them and told me she thought she could fix them. I told her I would be at Brothers K Coffeehouse and she told me it would probably take longer, so I left her my number. 10 minutes later I am going inside the cafe from outdoor seating and I see the woman half walking half running toward me with my glasses in her hand. She says, Oh, Im so glad you havent left yet, your glasses are fixed. I tell her how nice it was that she actually hand delivered them to me and asked how much I owe. She said, Dont worry about it, no charge. I still wanted to pay or at least buy her a cup of coffee but she would not accept it. When I put on the glasses I noticed that she not only fixed the lens, but also tightened the frames and cleaned them. Wow- Im buying my next sunglasses from Evanston Eyecare! Part caffeine induced but mostly a whole lot of kindness from that woman and I have been in a good mood ever since. Pay it forward!

First time @ Evanston Eyecare several months ago. Great customer care. Excellent help in selecting frames. Had to go back to have frames tightened @ 1 month ago; fixed without cost and with a smile. Would highly recommend.

Very helpful staff. I was easily able to have an eye exam, and have been purchasing contacts since. They are always prompt in helping me get new contacts/ glasses.

I did not have the positive experience others have had. I agree that the doctor is pleasant and thorough, but she over corrected — each pair was too strong. They offered to correct this with a new exam and new lenses, but this store is hardly ever open! (Seriously, check the hours). If you work M-F 9-5, you have to take time off of work. No evening hours. No weekend hours. I will not be back.

This is an outstanding place and its time to give it credit. I have been going here for years, from when they were one block north on Sherman. For the most part, my experiences have been fine -- nothing extraordinary, just good solid service. Around six months ago, I needed a screw. The old one had fallen out. The staff must have spent 20 minutes trying to find the right screw. Zero charge for this repair for a faithful customer. On my most recent visit I ordered three new pair of glasses and there were issues, partly of my making, that required some special service and accommodation, and the staff were understanding and helpful. I have also got contacts there, and again they were very helpful. I think they have rotating optometrists, but the one I had was super. I feel lucky to have such a store in downtown Evanston.

This is the best eye care exam I ever had. The staff is really helpful and professional. They have the best doctor in the area. I will definitely come back to this place for my future eye care needs.

After an unpleasant experience here years ago, I found another place for our eye exams and hadnt been back. However, when my daughter needed a quick eyeglass repair. I decided to stop in and was pleasantly surprised by the difference. The new proprietor was engaging and friendly. And not only did we get the quick repair we needed, we werent charged for it. What a difference!

I cant say enough good things about these folks. I went there because my long time optometrist, Dr. Fostiak is working there. She gave me a new prescription and I went to Warby Parker because there was a set of frames there that I really loved (and that of course were inexpensive). In two tries, Warby Parker couldnt get the prescription right. I took the the frames to Evanston Eyecare and they had lens is made for them. They were terrific!

I made an appointment in store at the Sherman location for this past Wednesday and was well-received by the staff and optometrist (whom I talked to briefly regarding a quick question I had).I had to cancel for personal reasons (and did so within the cancellation time frame) and the person on the other end of the call was not helpful in helping me reschedule. I would actually say they were quite rude, but it was the end of the work day so maybe he just wanted to get off work. Things happen.I called today to reschedule and the person on the phone (different from two afternoons ago) was extremely rude and curt. Decided to go to another optometrist that appreciates new customers and provides quality service from the get-go.

I am going to agree with the general reviews (there are more on Yelp) -- bad.Because they are local I gave them a try. I was tested for normal glasses, and what I thought was going to be computer glasses although they ended up giving me reading glasses (which are useless for using a computer). Even after going back a second time to change the computer glasses they were still useless. I had to threaten to report them in order to get my prescription from them for my records -- they are required by law to release it.Beyond this, there were a couple of other issues I had with double vision. The optician had no idea what this was due to, and referred me to another optician. Even the second opticians assistant knew what it was!Dont go to them -- neither the staff nor the optician is that well trained.The lesson I learned was to use my medical insurance, not street opticians.

Dr. Fostiak is a diamond in the rough. She is thorough and genuine. She could have retested my eyes as I communicated trouble seeing with my current prescription. She showed me and explained to me the anatomy of the eye and identified the problem as a faulty previous prescription from my former optician. Im not going blind! A smile and I was on my way. Seeing is believing :o)

I have bought 6 frames at this store and have been buying contact lenses from them for over 4 years. The selection of frames is wonderful and prices fit the frames perfectly. In 2013 I couldnt afford an expensive frame due to my low budget and I got a BEAUTIFUL frame for under $75. I brought all my friends here and they accepted ALL of the insurances. Groupon is easy to use and all the policies are listed so there is no confusion. The staff is WONDERFUL and devotes all attention to the costumers. They reason with patients and are very patient. I also did a contact lens fitting and it took me over an hour but the amazing woman who was assisting me was patient and SUPER kind. I recommend everyone come to this store for glasses, prescription, contact lenses, appointments, and adjustments.

I have visited almost all eyeglass stores in Evanston and so far this store is the best.There are several reasons:1. They are extremely patient.2. I encountered a problem with the glasses that I purchased and they did a replacement. This solution was costly for them and they didn’t complain.3. They have the best eyeglass styles.4. I interacted with 3 different staff member and each of them were delightful.

I would not recommend this location. The posted hours of 10 AM - 5 PM are inaccurate. After being bullied into buying contact lenses here, I was forced to work around their tight schedule to pick the lenses up. They were only available for pick-up between 10AM-Noon which is pretty unreasonable.

The man who answers the phone and claims to run the business literally lost them a client today. Its rare that I get so upset but he was about as rude as it gets. In simply trying to acquire some information about contacts, he at some point decided I wasnt worth helping and told me to go away. I just was blown away with the lack of professionalism and horrific customer service. Dont bother giving them your business. Im not sure how being told you just lost your company a client is ok, but apparently this man thinks it is. just a rude front man, and poorly run business.

Evanston Eyecare has been my preferred eye care specialist for many years, and I continue to order all of my contact lenses through them even after relocating from Evanston to downtown Chicago. I never review companies online, but VisualEyes goes above and beyond to provide excellent service, and I would highly recommend them to anyone.
