I think it’s quite horrible to fire an employee for demonstrating traits of autism such as limited eye contact and verbal communication with coworkers, especially from a center for autism. It’s incredibly ableist and is a pretty good tell of how they feel about actual patients here. I think anyone considering going here should be aware of how they treat autistic employees.

I had an appointment yesterday for my 9 month old son who was born 3 months prematurely. It was just a checkup, it lasted 2 hours which was ridiculous since it was supposed to be just a checkup from the NICU. On top of that, I had asked Dr. Stroud about getting blood work done because my son bruises easily and she agreed and told me to contact his pediatrician to get the blood work done. She then proceeded to ask if there was any abuse in the house, which I understand but there’s not.Fast Forward to today, Child Services is at my door. They wanted to know about abuse in the household. He was a very nice gentleman, listened to everything I had to say. None the less, I will not be coming back to Dr. Stroud or the Thompson Center for any of his future appointments.

The doctor wanted to do something very painful to my newborns eye when her eyes were totally fine and confirmed from her primary doctor I told him I didn’t want my daughter going through that when her eyes were fine he got very angry and argued with me when I left he called child services on me and I had to go through a case for a couple months until they dropped it saying I was a fit mother DO NOT GO HERE if you disagree THEY WILL CALL ON YOU when they have a nurse there to hold my child down because it hurts and the numbing drops don’t take all the pain away NO ONE WILL TOUCH MY CHILD THERE EVER AGAIN

Today was a long day. We have waited so long for an appointment we have heard nothing but the best about this facility. Doctor Connie Brookes was fantastic. We were treated with the utmost respect since we walked in the door. Speech therapist and occupational therapist were great and the day for my son couldnt of went better he thought of it as playing with new friends. We loved how more thorough they were compared to anouther facility in St. Louis. We can tell that everyone there truly enjoys there job and cares for the children they work with. I would highly recommend them to anyone with questions or even just a second opinion like we needed. Overall it was clean and pleasant experience a long waiting list but well worth the wait.

Extremely good communicating with my autistic little girl. She loves the Drs and nurses. They were even able to draw blood without holding her down! Awesome, kind, and so great with special needs! We go three or four times a year for check ups and evaluations!

This place doesn’t understand how the process of getting needed services actually works for families once a diagnosis is denied (which we disagree with). It would not be a big deal if our son didn’t actually need services that are considered ABA type services/therapy. I was told, when I asked the day of his evaluation, that it would not impact our son’s ability to access the autism services he needs (some of which are frustratingly only accessible with an ASD dx, which they should know), then we were told by TC to go through MO Division of Developmental Disabilities to get services covered, which I did & for which he does qualify to get in the door because he’s so delayed in all areas. But we hit another road block because he doesn’t have an ASD dx so the regional office cannot get him into what he needs. Their hands are tied. And TC won’t do anything to help remedy this. I was told by TC that our service coordinator will have to “get creative” in finding a code to get him access to autism services. This is an unacceptable solution to deny a child the right to appropriate services! The service coordinator cannot just make something up. Now our service coordinator is trying to help us find somewhere else where he *can* get the right diagnosis and get on the right track. This sort of runaround causes extreme stress on families beyond what the TC could possibly imagine and they really don’t seem to care what’s best for the child. We must now waste more precious time and resources by going elsewhere to obtain the right diagnosis for our son. Don’t waste your time with a place that still considers any eye contact to negate everything else about your child’s list of autistic characteristics. Autistic people *can* make eye contact and still be autistic. I wish we hadn’t just wasted the last 14 months ourselves. I only gave more than 1 star because while I don’t agree with his evaluation and the psychologist’s interpretation of her brief time with my son, or in the lack of help post-evaluation, Dr. Stroud on the medical side is a really wonderful and compassionate pediatrician and has done a lot to help our son.

Their response team was specifically told that they could not in no way touch my child when my child screamed in his speech therapist room the response team went in and try to forcibly remove my child and put him in a padded room when me and my wife intervened the therapist wrote up a report saying that I assaulted my son fortunately for us my wife recorded the entire thing we showed it to her boss that she was lying on her report saying that I assaulted my son and the Thompson Center dismissed my son from therapy tell me where the fairness is in that now theyve written report saying that my son is violent and I cant find a speech therapist for my son and this woman still works at the Thompson Center nothing has happened to her and her bosses refused to return anyones phone calls for all you people that say the Thompson Center is so great I just got to ask you one question how much did they pay you to write this so far Ive done a little digging on the web and I have found for every one person that says a Thompson Center is great theres 50 that says there isnt they have everything from child abuse charges pending on them to assault charges against children I advise everyone to take their children out of the Thompson Center

My son received a Sensory Processing Disorder and an Asperger diagnosis at this center. The staff was caring and the diagnosis gave us school services, but the advise we got there was unhelpful and would have been dangerous had I followed through. I was particularly displeased by the psychologist that urged me to treat my sons gastrointestinal issues with anti-anxiety medications and warned me Id be wasting my money if I tried the gluten free/dairy free diet. It later turned out that my son had a form of Celiac and severe B12 deficiency due to a genetic disorder. If I had followed his advise, my son would be still be severely ill and exhibiting autistic behaviors. As he is now, he has lots of friends and is on the A honor roll. He still has long term health and nerve damage due to going undiagnosed as B12 deficient for so long. B12 disorders exhibit the same symptoms as Sensory Processing Disorder. Outside of the psych department, there are very capable O.T.s and S.T.s and doctors at this center, but I am disappointed that they couldnt have been the ones that caught the B12 deficiency especially since they advertise as a sort of one stop shop for autism spectrum disorder patients.
