Ive never been to a better vet. The whole staff was kind and knowledgeable. Everything from scheduling to the actual appointment was easy to understand and you can tell they care. They gave me so much valueble information. I could go on all day and still not say enough to convey how great North Center is

This place is awesome!!!! I started off with another vet when we first adopted our puppy. Koda (puppy) had diarrhea I called our first vet we went could not fit us in. I called North Center Animal Hospital and they fit us in the same day!!! When we got there everyone was friendly and professional. When the Dr. came in she was wonderful. She ease my mind and gave me some training tips. I would highly recommend this place. I am switching my vet to North Center Animal Hospital immediately!!!!!! Thanks Everyone

These guys really are the best. Ive been up for almost a full 48 hours with a sick dog so Ive been pretty irritable and impatient, but theyve been so kind and understanding the entire time. They respond quickly and handle my anxiety filled dog so well every time even though I know he can be incredibly difficult. If you want really kind and understanding doctors and staff look no further.

We absolutely love this vet. We love Dr. Lynn as she has treated our dogs from the beginning. However, the entire staff is stellar. They treat you and your fur babies like family. The vets and vet techs are understanding for the most anxious/ overbearing of owners and nonjudgmental of the more laid back ones. One of the vet techs has even become our permanent house/ dog sitter when we leave for weekend or multi-week vacations. The only possible negative was the clinic was a bit older and outdated but their recent renovations have completely transformed the facility. Overall, I could not recommend them enough. We will be going to this clinic for as long as we have fur babies. None better in the Chicagoland area.

I was lucky to live close by this place, because it is my favorite animal care hospital. The staff is very professional and caring. They know and remember my cat Skippy well and she is very comfortable during our visits. They are also very responsive, always answer the phone and find the time to help and schedule something soon during their busy schedule. In addition, they have an easily accessible online pharmacy where I can schedule automatic medicine delivery, so I dont have to travel to pick new batch when one runs out. We have seen a few different doctors at North Center and they are all very professional, dont keep you waiting for too long, clear about what treatment they are using and why, and empathetic towards Skippy. I moved to Gold Coast, but I decided to drive here when we need to visit a vet simply because I wanted her to have a say in which hospital she likes and this one is it! In some others around my new neighborhood she hid behind my legs as if she knew we were going to have a rather worse experience and shes her usual super friendly and curious self at North Center. Listen to your pet, more often than not they are right!

Dr. Castillo and the entire team at North Center Animal Hospital has gone above and beyond to make my pup, Rodeo, and me feel supported and well cared for. In the first couple weeks of having my puppy, before we were able to get in with our original vet, she developed some digestive distress (to put it lightly) and her original vet was incredibly unhelpful. My friend recommended NCAH and they got us in immediately and made us feel right at home. If I call with questions, even if I feel Im being just a little paranoid, they make me feel sane and heard. (Classic new dog-mom concerns!) I cant express how grateful I am that we switched and found a home with NCAH. I give them 5 stars, Rodeo gives them 5 woofs.

We were in quite the perfect storm with our dog not feeling well a couple days before we were headed for vacation. NCAH was not our vet at the time, and we were calling around for anyone that had appointments available. Not only did they generously squeeze us in for an appointment that very day, but they processed our test results and sent us home with the necessary prescription within 2 hours of our appointment. NCAH was so kind and friendly and took time to speak with us at length and make our dog feel comfortable. Fantastic experience.

This is a great place. They will take excellent care if your pet and are very friendly and helpful. Ive had multiple pets cared for here and never been disappointed. When my dog was terminal they were exceptionality kind and in general amazing though a very stressful and emotional time.

It sounds so trite but they treat your pet as it he/she was one of their own, The attention and care they give is outstanding. They are also understanding with helicopter pet moms like me. They are patient(no pun intended) when explaining medical procedures, test results and treatment!. I wouldnt take my fur babies anywhere else! As the song goes, they are quite simply the best

North Center Animal Hospital is the best. I have been bringing my dogs and cats here for over 35 years and I wouldnt think of going anywhere else. All the vets are great - friendly, thorough, gentle with scared pets, highly competent and willing to explain and listen. The support staff are excellent as well.

I have been going to North Center Animal Hospital since my dog was 10 weeks old and now he is 13. They take such good care of him and Doctor’s and staff go the extra mile for all of their customers. He has had a few health issues recently and Dr. Castillo recommended me to another hospital for more extensive testing and so I could get the answers I needed. He also recently removed mast cell tumor which I was terrified of putting him under due to his age. Dr. Castillo helped me understand the right procedure that was needed to effectively remove it and ensure my dog was monitored closely throughout the surgery. Samson came through surgery with no complications. Thanks again for all of your great service over the years and always putting animals health and well being first!

I had a great experience, knocking a star off because I thought they should be more transparent about costs. Our bill was higher than I expected and I would have liked an estimate of costs. Our old vet always let us know estimated costs before our visit and before any additional exam or treatment was done.

My grand kitties visited here today. Although they needed their vaccines due to an upcoming move, I was concerned because of the interaction this would require of my daughter. She reported back that the cats were picked up from her car by a masked member of the staff without any humans interacting, and she spoke with someone in the office by phone during their visit. The kitties were returned by the staff member, all updated. Thanks for working through COVID-19 safely! Business can continue safely!

This animal hospital is great! I got referred here by a family member who has been going there for about 20 years! Fast and very good with my cat! I just adopted Jessie and she had never been to the vet before. The staff answered all my questions. Definitely recommend this veterinarian!

Took my doggo there today to establish care but also because she hasn’t been acting herself. I called this morning at 10 and got an appt for 1230. She’s getting older so I was afraid it was something awful, and I was pretty upset. The staff was so kind and gentle with her and the doc I saw was so sweet to her and did a very focused and careful exam. I didn’t tell them I’m a RN but she spoke to me very respectfully and explained things anyway and laid out a plan. Bambi is feeling a little better now that we have some meds on board but I would recommend this place to anybody :).

By far one of the best vet experiences Ive ever had. Ive been searching for a vet in Chicago since I moved here and am so happy I found this place. Every single person on staff was friendly, genuine, and great with my dog. When I was filling out paperwork, someone came to the front and gave my dog attention to calm him down. I highly recommend and will definitely be going back again!

They were nice but couldnt do a simple blood glucose reading for my ferret with insulinoma.They tried to tell me the only vet that did that was in Skokie but I called Duke Animal Hospital and they got her in for the glucose test asap. If you have exotics this probably isnt the place for you.

My dog was bit by another dog and even though they were booked for the next few days, North Center Animal Hospital was able to see her and make sure everything was okay. They were very professional and quick.

My dog, my first dog ever and my pride and joy, started going to NCAH when she was 10 weeks old. Through a traumatic spinal cord accident, dental work, and routine dog checkups and procedures, NCAH was always my go to place. Between their professionalism, down to earth nature, general knowledge, and of course, love for animals, I’ve always been super impressed and happy with them.After 8 years, my family moved out of chicago and I had the sad realization I would have to find another vet. After the first few visits with this new vet, I didn’t get the impression I was being treated with the same care that I had with NCAH. After I suspected I was being squeezed for some money after two rounds of blood work, I contacted the wonderful team at NCAH for a e-second opinion. Without hesitation, even though my dog was no longer a patient there, Dr Castillo took the time on a busy Saturday to review her bloodwork and call me with a detailed explanation of what he was seeing and his suggested course of action. I trust him and his opinion and honestly I was blown away with his generosity and genuine care for my dog. I still am just in awe at how amazing this group of Veterinarians are.If you live in the city and are looking for a vet, do not hesitate at going to NCAH!

I highly recommend North Center Animal Hospital. I noticed that my dog had an ingrown toenail. I called early Saturday morning to see if they could squeeze me in and they were able to. The technician and doctor were extremely friendly, patient, informative, and caring. They were hands down 100 times better than any of the previous vets that I have visited and I did not believe that they seemed overpriced at all (my visit was $92).

Awesome! We went here as a referral from our neighbor. When we walked in the door we were greeted by the person at the desk. Sorry, cant remember her name. We were seen by Dr. Castillo he was the best part of the experience. I dont know about most people but I dont want a wishy washy doctor that talks to me in medical jargon. Dr. Castillo is a straight talking doctor that gave us realistic expectations about our bulldogs skin condition in understandable terms. He took time to get to know our dog and understand us as parents/owners. He was gentle and used great care handling our newest family member. The bottom line is we felt very safe and confident in the care she received. I can t comment on cost my wife actually payed the bill. I really wasnt all that concerned about that. Its hard to find a doctor that makes me feel at ease and Dr. Castillo did. Thanks North Center

We brought our cat Howard into north center animal hospital, and they were so loving towards him! He had been having urinary issues which is very common in male cats. Instead of giving us the run around and trying to milk us financially, they took a very detailed history, and they gave us very accurate and helpful information. They helped manage his discomfort in the moment, and they educated us about a prescription diet, how to manage both cats on the diet, and what to keep an eye out for. They were fantastic!

Came here for a cat related emergency when our old vet couldnt get is in. These folks were so good they are now our full time vet. On site MRI, excellent staff. Right off the brown line.Be aware: parking isnt great and the city will ticket and tow you if you park for more than 15 minutes in front of the clinic. Its posted, so it isnt dirty pool but having your car towed after a pet emergency can be unduly stressful so be aware.

This is one of my favorite vet offices Ive been to. Ive moved around a lot in the last 10 years, and this place by far has the best staff and service! Everyone is very knowledgeable and extremely friendly, and with their recent expansion, its super easy to get appointments, even in the evening after work. The doctors are experienced and seem to genuinely care for my pet, as well as providing quality care that wont break the bank. I always feel the doctors are doing their best to acknowledge my concerns, provide the most reasonable treatment, and keep me from having to spend a ton in various tests and whatnot that adds up quickly. I feel they use their knowledge and experience to find the solution at the intersection of whats likely, whats least expensive to test for, and what treatments are likely to be most effective before moving on to other options. This saves time and money from repeating visits, but it also is kinder to my pet (she gets very nervous in the car). I absolutely would recommend these guys to anyone looking for a friendly, relaible vet office.

We’ve been going to NCAH from the first week we adopted our pup three years ago, and it’s lucky we did. Ours is a rescue from abroad and his first four months are a little murky in terms of history. As such, he came down with Parvo in the first couple weeks and I believe the fast thinking of the staff at NCAH (together with all the hard work by MedVet nearby who had to quarantine him) saved his life.Since then our pup has had terrible allergies (food? Environment?), eye infections, ear infections, other skin infections, fear and behaviour issues, gut issues... the list goes on, and the staff here have been with us every step of the way (yes I’m embarrassed to say we’re THOSE people, the regulars — we should really get a punch card). I’d rather take our pup here than to a specialist.Glancing over some of the very few negative reviews, yes, it’s sometimes necessary to pay for x-rays and tests and then everything comes back negative. But that’s the thing with veterinarians, they can’t ask their patients what the issue is and often you have to go through a process of elimination. I believe you’re better off safe than sorry. I think the prices here are reasonable, I’ve heard friends talk about how much they paid at other clinics and it’s insane. We have insurance which doesn’t cover everything but helps, and I would recommend it to everyone.The facilities here are clean, they had a renovation not long ago and so everything is nice and up to date.But by far what makes NCAH my recommendation to everyone (however far they live) is the staff. From the staff at the front, the techs, the doctors, everyone is kind, helpful, organised and professional whether that’s by email, on the phone or in person. Dr Locher has been amazing — it’s been a bit of a journey but we’re finally at a spot where our pup is stable, his allergies are under control, and he’s eating normally. Aside from being knowledgable and up to date on the latest treatments (and sometimes less commonly used but effective treatments), he’s always pragmatic without us feeling pressured into diving into a higher cost treatment or test when considering the benefits/downside.That said, I’ve been to see all of the Drs here at one point or another (regulars, remember?) and they are all fabulous. We’re so grateful for all their patience and hard work over the last three years, and, knowing our dog, there will be a lot more to come.Too long didn’t read: 10/10, value for money, wonderful staff—your pet is in safe hands at NCAH.

We had a great experience with Dr. Elwood and the rest of the staff at North Center Animal Hospital. The office is clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, and most importantly Dr. Elwood provided care that went above and beyond for our cat Norm. Whereas other vets weve dealt with in the area have been adequate in their treatment, Dr. Elwood gave us a clear diagnosis, explanation of the disease and continuing care plan for Norm, which is something we have not gotten at other facilities. Yes, the treatment was expensive, but in my experience emergency veterinary services are always expensive and I never felt like the doctor was trying to take advantage of our sick pet to make some extra money. In fact, she understood our monetary concerns and worked to manage the cost without compromising Norms care. We know that Norm is in good hands and that we stand a much better chance of avoiding long and expensive stays at hospitals for his disease moving forward. Thank you, North Center Animal Hospital.

This is a lengthy review, and I want to start by saying that I highly recommend North Center Animal Hospital. The staff is kind and very helpful, and the interactions Ive had with Dr. Castillo have been outstanding. Im giving 4 stars for that alone. I dont intend for this review to reflect poorly on NCAH as a whole.The reason Im writing is to share a very unhelpful experience I had recently with Dr. Locher. I adopted an 8yr old cat in July, and a couple weeks ago (November) I took her in for her second visit to NCAH because of a chronic Upper Respiratory Infection, which I was aware of when I adopted her. During her first visit in August, Dr. Castillo gave her an antibiotic, ran blood tests to get a baseline for where she was health-wise, and they found that her kidney levels were slightly elevated. He didnt indicate it was anything to be alarmed about just yet, but to keep an eye on her, see how she does, and bring her back in 6 months for follow-up tests. Since then her health has improved, she put on weight, her coat is shiny, and her energy is great. Her URI came back, however, which is why I scheduled the second visit.Dr. Locher, upon walking into the room (with no new tests being run), suggested keeping antibiotics on the shelf because they get expensive, and then proceeded to recommend I get a DNA test for my cat to see if thats the reason for her URIs. Last I checked, DNA tests are more expensive than antibiotics. He also recommended I put her on an LID diet for her kidney disease, which is more expensive than the standard diet and also not what Id been told previously. He recommended I take her to a cardiologist (expensive) for her Grade 3 heart murmur, and said her teeth needed to be cleaned. When I said I wasnt prepared financially for all those things, his response was, Or you can take her home and see if she improves on her own. Now why would I do that, especially when the tech who took my call expressed concern about my cat being able to breathe clearly?When I told him about the things I was doing at home to keep her environment clean and prevent her URIs, he had absolutely zero response, either positive or negative. Not even his facial expression changed. When I finally asked that she just be given an antibiotic, he expressed doubt that it would work, even when I told him it helped her last time.Keep in mind that all of these things - the URI, the elevated kidney levels, the heart murmur, even the condition of her teeth - came up through the course of her first appointment with Dr. Castillo, and he recommended to just keep an eye on her (I had been ready to schedule a dental cleaning for her). Dr. Locher, on the other hand, made the same test results and the same numbers seem like a danger zone that all needed to be addressed right away, even though my cats health had actually improved overall. Even her URI wasnt as bad as it had been in August, but he had nothing to say about her improvements.I truly felt like Dr. Locher was just using scare tactics to pressure me to spend more money. Frankly, I doubt how much he cared about the health of my cat, especially when he had no response to and no recommendation of things I can do to help her at home.I recommend you please avoid visiting with Dr. Locher if you can. I dont doubt his training or skill, and Im glad to read that other patients at NCAH have had a better experience. But I found personally that his tableside manner leaves much to be desired.

Its taken some time for me to gather all the thoughts I have for the staff here at North Center Animal Hospital. I lost my precious little sweet pea, Sammie, at the beginning of the year after a long battle with diabetes. From my very first visit way back in 2011 until now the doctors and all the staff here have been nothing but kind, caring, and loving to myself and my little furry family. Dr. Heinbuch was very helpful when Sammie was first diagnosed with diabetes, and showed so much compassion and love for him you would have thought he was her own cat. When the little Sammie last got sick Dr. Locher and staff did everything they could to help him get better, even though the outlook did not look so good. They even let me borrow their own glucose tester to ensure his levels were correct. Finally when I made the hardest decision of my life, Dr. Locher and staff were beyond loving and compassionate throughout the whole unfortunate and painful experiece, I did not feel pressued or guilted by them for my decision. After getting him home and put in his resting place, I was more than surprised to open a letter from North Center Animal Hospital with a condolence card signed by the doctors, each with a positive and uplifting handwritten note about my dear Sammie. They went above and beyond for me and my babies, more than any other vets Ive been to ever. I would reccomend them to anyone and everyone that will listen to me. Although Sammie is no longer with me, I will forever remember how amazing the doctors and staff here were throughout my toughest times. Thank you for everything! I could not have done this without the kidness and support you all showed me and my Sammie. I cannot say thank you enough!

I have used this vet, Dr Burkhart for my two dogs for years. Both dogs were rescued. The first one had many serious medical problems. NCAH helped make her final years comfortable.My second dog loves going there. She receives individualized care and loves the staff

They are wonderful with our 13 year old scardy cat. I also have to pick up special food for him and often forget to call ahead. Theyre always very nice about it and help me quickly.

I have been coming to NCAH for about 8 years with my dog who is now 13. Today was my last visit. I am officially convinced this place is a scam after todays non emergency vet bill of 500$! I took my dog in to be assessed as she is getting older and I wanted to do a 6 month check up. The Vet barely looked at my dog and immediately pressured me into getting X-rays and Blood work done. I asked if that was truly necessary or if it was just old age- again he made it seem like there would be answers for her issues... 500$ for 70$ just to come in and a mysterious Senior Dog Panel 250$ in addition to big surprise NOTHING wrong X-rays and blood work ) That is more than I have paid for her to have a tumor removed there! I talked to a friend about this and she told me she pays 1/3 of the price for the exact same services! They are very nice people but they are seriously ripping people off in this neighborhood. I am DONE going there- so disappointing.

Dr Burkhart has been caring for our Labrador (who passed) and then now continues to care for our dog Pepper, an Austrailian Shepherd. She has helped us with finding Peppers bladder stones and we have special food we give her. We really appreciate all the care that everyone there gives us. They also care for all kinds of animals.

I woke up one morning to my cat (Aphex) all wiggly-legged and (I thought) close to death, I spent the better part of 20 minutes sobbing because I thought I was going to have to put him down. I called on a whim asking if NCAH could see him that morning, they told me Come in ASAP, well make time for you In a world where Emergency vet care (*cough*MedVet*cough*) is treated as a for-profit industry this was a HUGE relief. The doctor was super sympathetic and Aphex went on to fight another day. I would have been in a much worse state if the awesome people here hadnt been there to help out.

After reading a couple unfavorable reviews of North Center Animal Hospital I felt the need to post a review. I have been a client of NCAH since I moved to Chicago in 1996. My pets have always seen Dr. Castillo and I would never go anywhere else or have anyone else see my pets. Dr. Castillo (along with the rest of the staff at NCAH) has always been respectful, helpful, and compassionate toward my cats. He has always taken the time to explain procedures, options, and answer all of my questions. Over the years, Dr. Castillo has been through many situations with my pets. The most difficult being the decision to euthanize my elderly ailing feline. After many medical procedures, medications, amoung other efforts- he helped me make one of the most difficult decisions that a pet owner has to make, which I truly believe was the best thing to do. He spent a lot of time talking me through everything, explaining what was happening with my beloved cat. He never rushed me through conversations or made me feel like I was wasting his time. In the end, he even sent me a hand written card expressing his condolences. I sincerely believe that Dr. Castillo cares for all his patients as if they were his own. We just added a dog to our family and we skipped the free vet visit the shelter gave us and went straight to Dr. Castillo for her first check up. The only thing is that he doesnt see exotics, although Dr. Ellwood was great with our ball python. Through all of my visits to the office, I have NEVER felt disrespected or that my pet was not cared for. I feel I have always been given superior pet care. I dont think that NCAH is over priced, but I will say that you get what you pay for, I would never go to a cheap vet. As for people complaining about how much care costs- if you cant afford to pay for proper vet care, then maybe you shouldnt own pets. I have spent thousands of dollars over the years to make sure my pets are happy and healthy and have never complained or regreted it once.Anyway....Dr. Castillo and everyone at NCAH are awesome! Thank you for years of wonderful care and service! I cant tell you how greatful I am to have you as my vet!!

Short waiting time, great care!

They killed my cat. I went in after I came from the gym and the old weathered vet who worked there judged me and made the assumption I didnt have any money. After getting second opinions from other vet clinics they made it clear that older vets make poor judgment calls. STAY Away FROM THIS PLACE!!!

Kinda freaked out that they think my dog needs some all-day expensive dental treatment, but overall a good vet that was able to fit me into their schedule at the last minute.

Always a good experience!
