I hate my haircut. My stylist did exactly the opposite of what I asked her to do.I went with a friend whos hair stylist did a great job. Nice staff though, clean salon.

This is the best haircut I’ve ever had! I’m so happy I chose this salon. They really care about your safety : they measure your temperature at the entrance and offer face mask and hand sanitizer. Master Zema is very nice and professional, I plan to come back to her every time I need a new haircut !

This is the best haircut I have EVER had. My stylist was Zema and I could not say enough good things. She is professional, talented, listened to exactly what I wanted, and took her time to make sure I looked my absolute best. I am also going on day 3 of my blow out and it still looks perfect. I will be going to J Gordon Designs for life now!

I have been coming to J. Gordon for about 14 years. Even though I moved out of the city 7 years ago, about an hour away, I still make the drive every 8 weeks because of the quality of service I receive. The entire staff, especially Janette, is so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful in making sure your hair looks its absolute best. I look forward to my Saturday morning appointments and will continue to make the trek to Lincoln Park because of how wonderful this hair salon is. :)

What I love about J Gordon is they take the time to get you. Ive seen two stylists there, and theyve both done outstanding work. People often stop me on the street and in stores to ask where I get my hair done! My stylist, Janette, is amazing.

I was a client here for 15+ years and always had great service. You don’t realize how great your service is until having to move to a new salon (moved from Chicago recently). The skills of each stylist with color and cut are superior. I was last seeing Sylvia. Nora provides the best hair washes!! I highly recommend this salon.

While Brittany was very sweet, she did not listen to my comments, I am growing out my layers. My hair is very fine and thin so layers makes it worse. All I wanted was a tiny trim to even any hair length out of place. Instead, she said she would need to do an Invisible layers so my hair is not bumpy. My hair was never bumpy but my mistake in trusting her. When I got home, I was able to check the the hair cut all around and back of my hair. I discovered how uneven my hair was cut. I was not given a mirror to check the haircut so I was not aware. I called my regular hair cut master today asking him to see if he can cut my hair and do some repair even though it would now require much shorter hair cut to give my hair a more blunt cut. The layers were not necessary and the hair cut was unevenly cut. Very disappointed.

I’ve been going to J. Gordon for several years now. I bought a Groupon and got hooked up with Janette for my cut and color and I’ll never stray. All the safety measures in place for the pandemic made me feel so safe getting my hair done. I will be back again and again.

The salon itself is very nice and clean, the stylists are friendly but unfortunately I was not very happy with my experience. After telling the stylist what I wanted to do, he did something entirely different, which for the first time in my life made me tell a stylist that I do not like the haircut. So after a while I had to tell him exactly where to cut to be able to at least live with my new hair cut. They also forgot to give my hair a treatment but made up for itI had read all the good reviews and was excited to try it out but after this experience I wont be coming back.

My stylist recently retired and I’ve started seeing Sylvia. She is excellent!! My hair always looks amazing. I recently tried another salon near my home for an urgent need on a Sunday. Never again. Every time I go it is last minute for a special occasion or audition. So I never choose the stylist. Every stylist I have seen has been top of their game. The special treatment you receive from the shampoo area is relaxing and very professional. Also this salon has some intriguing history based on its owner. I always feel renewed and a little more powerful when I leave.

Ive been going to J. Gordon for about 40 years, since they were located farther north on Clark, and Ive loved this salon all that time. Karen is the best colorist in the entire universe, Im convinced. Jerry always cut my hair (I wouldnt let anyone else anywhere touch it), but now that hes gone, (and do we all miss him!), I still get great cuts. I recommend J. Gordon Designs highly. Everyone, from Tara at Reception to the wonderful ladies who wash your hair (and massage your neck!), is delightful, kind, and efficient.

All the stylists Ive had there are very skilled and responsive to my requests. Years ago when I first started going there on the recommendation from a friend, I was concerned that it was only for young women who were up-to-date with the latest trends. But they welcome those of us with a basic hairstyle. Check them out.

This is a down to earth kind of place with excellent service. I brought a few photos that a friend had found for me because I was at a loss as to what I wanted my look to be. My hair has a very tight wave pattern that will win every time. Mina cut my hair beautifully and explained what I should do and how to deal with it. There is a very nice attitude throughout the salon that makes you feel very comfortable.

Voted as one of the top salons in the country, I have been at the shop many times when a team of stylists at J.Gordon were heading to NY or Europe for a workshop with renown artists in the industry...and they always bring back exciting styles, techniques and products.I live over an hour away but its always like a mini-getaway leaving the burbs and driving down captivating Lake Shore Drive... and I love Clark street with its brownstone buildings and interesting architecture...and if you time it right, in the summer you can stop at the farmers market along the way and browse the local vendors wares.The salon itself is definitely fascinating with its antique furniture and wall art. The atmosphere is friendly, warm and inviting and never stuffy or pretentious. They offer wonderful organic herbal tea, coffee and cookies gratis..and you will also be treated to a very relaxing neck massage at the wash sink! Whats not to love :)My hair looks the best it has ever looked and I wouldnt dream of going elsewhere. A+++++ to J. Gordon Designs.

Absolutely the best salon in the Midwest. Welcoming to everyone, even uncool, older women like me. Fabulously skilled in every way. This place carries on the vision of its founder, Jerry Gordon, with great care. Even the ladies who wash ones hair are terrific. Karens color work cannot be matched, from completely natural looking highlights to total color, and the stylists who handle scissors really know how to use them. While not cheap, this place is not nearly as pricey as it could be.

J Gordon has helped me so much. When I started 5 years ago, I was recovering from cancer and had lost a lot of hair. Sylvia used all her magic, and each time I visited I had regained more hair. Moreover, my hair is strong and healthy looking.I always enjoy going to the salon because I am always welcomed and treated most graciously.

I found this salon while doing a search for salons that open the earliest near me. I was so happy to get an 8am appointment with a highly skilled stylist, Janette. All I wanted was a trim and I was so nervous about cutting too much off. Janette listened to my concerns and gave me a a amazing haircut that helped me feel super confident for my companys grand opening the following day. I cant wait to continue to come back to this salon! Service was outstanding and thr story behind it (with Jerry and Karen) is adorable.

Worst experience getting my naturally curly/wavey hair thinned out (& I asked NOT to get it thinned out!). My hair couldnt be more frizzier the next time I washed it and now its been over a month and still so frizzy. I also told the lady that I didnt want my hair thinned out and she use thinning shears anyways. Do not waste your money here.

Im not good with hair but thanks to Chelsea and the entire J Gordon team I can say I have fabulous hair!

Happy 2019, I and several friends have been faithful clients for many years.My visits have included color and cuts. I have thick, straight hair, and it is not easy to cut and requiresextra color doses. My other friends have curly hair and it is finer. Each of us require different techniques. There is not not a stylist there who is not well trained. Some were directly trainedwith Jerry!You will love the pampering at JGordons, make this a new you year!

I really like this salon. I have thick, wavy hair, and it has always been difficult for me to find a stylist that can handle it and thin it out a bit without making it top heavy, shelfy, or mullet-like. Ive always gotten an excellent cut here that grows out sooooo well! It always looks great, even when it is long overdue for a new cut. When I grew out my pixie cut a few years ago, it never looked awkward or between lengths after or between cuts, which is pretty amazing. I see Allyson and she is fantastic! Everyone there is super friendly and professional and the shampoo experience is A+.

This place had me in tears. Kept telling me that they gave me a fantastic cut even though it was clearly not the cut I wanted. Stylist was rude and insensitive even though I was so upset I was crying over the old lady milk maid cut she was giving me. Then when another stylist was sent to fix the damage with another new girl to shadow her they talked about me like I wasnt even there, not asking me even once if I liked how she was trying to fix it. Ill never go there again.
