Their periodontal care is world class. I have been to other depts as well. Ranked #1 dental school in the nation. Dr. Susin and his team are world class doctors and most caring. Their technical skill is most importantly unmatched. I would recommend highly for periodontal care.

I have had 3 children Receive braces and treatment successfully And I have recommended that others go here for there orthodontic treatment.... however I am questioning the service now as my daughter is in the process of obtaining a replacement retainer. The bedside manner was less than acceptable and the retainer had to be remade while she waited. The cost was high and so was the time wasted....

Students and doctors are unprofessional here. They have gone as far as being rude. They have put wrong information into my child’s chart. May of this year they scheduled my kid for 4 root canals. 2 days before her appointment they cancelled for no reason. Im having to take my critically ill daughter to another hospital because we cant get the care we need with this dental team. They don’t want to give my daughter the surgery She desperately needs (proven by the specialist they referred her too.) One dentist we are dealing with here is continuing to lie us. We are going to have to leave this place. It’s supposed to be UNC.. one of the best hospital’s in the world. All they are doing is referring my sick daughter around and refusing to do the treatment she needs.

I had this place make a claim against my state tax refund for a procedure they CLAIM I had done almost 10 years ago! I had never heard of this place before in my life much less ever had any procedure done by them. I never received a bill, a collection notice, a phone call nothing and then out the blue some 10 years later they claim I had a biopsy done when I had my wisdom teeth removed by another dentist in another state! I contacted the dentist that they said had done the biopsy and was told they have no idea what they are talking about my bill was paid in full the day it was done. So now Im trying to find an attorney to get my tax return refunded to me from a place I had never heard of prior to having them illegally take my state tax return. This place is a scam and regardless of if you go there or not keep a eye on your tax return.

I could not have asked for a better experience getting my braces through the school of Orthodontics. The price was extremely helpful and only cost me a little over $3400 for braces which is a much better deal than at a private practice. Everyone in the clinic was always so professional, kind and courteous each time I went for an appointment. Denise who works the front desk is so kind and welcomes everyone in with a warm welcome. Dr. Keyser was the resident over my case and Dr. Brown was the faculty member that I saw on each visit. I am so glad they were the ones over my case and I loved each visit with them. They both were always helpful in answering any questions I had, keeping me updated on where everything was in the process and simply making me feel at home. Yesterday, 5/13/21 is when I got my braces off and it was also Dr. Keyser’s last day in the clinic as she has now graduated. She will have a great orthodontic practice one day. Dr. Brown has the best bedside manner of anyone I have ever met. One of the nicest people you will ever meet.Even as I moved out of state for another job I still kept coming back so I could finish my braces with them. They were so helpful and courteous in working with me to ensure my appointments were at times that worked for me. I would give this place 10 stars if I could! Thank you UNC School of Orthodontics and specifically Dr. Keyser and Dr. Brown for helping me improve my smile and for a great experience!

This school is teaching it is ok to use mercury fillings. I’ve had two different female dentists that have been practicing for 7-8 years, one at the VA and another at a practice in Morganton, try to tell me it is ok. I would not recommend anyone going to a dentist that went to this school.

I saw Dr Ryan Cook for a very painful upper right molar. He took a detailed history of my teeth, performed a very thorough examination of the affected molar, and then discussed my treatment options with me. He listened to me, answered all of my questions and helped me relax. I will be returning soon for a root canal and a crown. I am so glad that we have such a diverse array of dental talent that we can easily access in situations such as these. Everyone I dealt with was very professional and eager to serve the patients.

I would not normally do this but public needs to know....I felt like the patient that was very pushed into and misled for the purpose of only meeting what the student needed in his courses without no concern for my chronic health issues. is making my life horribly miserable painful since March 2019. Have had 5 hospital visits and stays since. Many jaw, neck and brain scans to see about pain , nausea, vision and vertigo issues Example: Pulled teeth and was suppose to be 48hr and 72 hour follow up but he was in another country. Called and always had to go to urgent care from then on. Does not deserve any credits or to graduate!!!!! Poor communication!!!! 1 year and month later work still not complete

Parents beware! Daughter is currently getting braces here. She is a high sch student & has missed many classes due to their schedule. Be very aware that the ONLY appointments they have available are DURING school hours, & only TWO DAYS a month. If your student orthodontist is doing training, on vacation, etc. you have to wait 6-8 weeks between appointments. If you have to reschedule, it could be 4-6 weeks later. Ive had to wait up to 8 weeks for our next appointment. Also, you have to park in the parking deck, cross the busy road (pedestrian bridge is out), navigate construction, then the halls, & finally the elevator. Be prepared to receive many, many schools excuses over the years like the one in the picture. Cost us $4000+.The only reason I am giving 3 stars is because the staff/Docs are nice.

I had a very odd experience. I was given a referral here and after a month or so was called to make an appointment. I unfortunately missed that call, but called back and got hold of someone right away. What was strange was the woman I talked to insisted they never called me and transferred me over to someone else, who attempted to transfer me back to the person I had just talked with - who again claimed they never called me and also said they had no record of me.Well, I saved the voice mail they had left and played it for them, proving once and for all they had called me and that I was supposed to set up an appointment. After this I was told my dentist would have to resend the referral. I ended up waiting another several months before hearing back. I finally have an appointment set up now, and I hope things go well.EDIT:Had my appointment. It went very well. Everyone was friendly and the doctor I spoke with put me at ease (I have ondontophobia) and answered all my questions. The only downside was the cost. I paid close to $100 to basically just be told to make another appointment to get my teeth extracted. I had a small, 2 minute exam done. They already knew which teeth needed to be taken care of because it was explained in my referral sheet. It seems I could have easily skipped the consultation and just made the appointment to get my teeth pulled and saved the money and gas.

Patient Care. Costs. Its stated that the costs are about 1/3 (also, depending on skill level, student/graduate), compared to some private dentist practice. There is no fee list published.Considering that costs are comparable to average dental insurance plan (keep in mind that no insurance is accepted) and that the aim of the treatment will not be targeted at one dental issue but an overall improvement of all teeth/bite (which can add up to the cost of a car), there seems to be no benefit to receive services from an inexperienced student. Unfortunately.

A dentist in Fayetteville recommended the UNC School of Dentistry for treatment of my TMJ pain. Not only did it take a long time to get an appointment, but I had to pay $438.00 up front before I could see one of the dentists. What a waste of time and money. Dr Pei Lim only did a consult about the pain, took some measurements and spent more time talking about the extensive costs for future treatments such as $437.00 for a CT scan, $1234.00 for a mouth splint and $165.00 to $303.00 for each additional office visit. The CT scan was necessary before any future visits and could only be done at that facility. Needless to say I have not been back and encourage everyone to look elsewhere for any treatments.

Unfortunately my experience was less than stellar, upon my last few visits. The rates are really no better than going to a regular dentist, which kind of defeats the purpose of helping those in low (or no) income situations. I understand this is a teaching program, but having a dental student and dental professional sit in the room and talk ABOUT me, rather than TO me was not only unprofessional, but just plain RUDE. I heard words that were actually starting to scare me, but not once did either of them try to explain to ME what issues I was facing, and what would need to be done to resolve them. They discussed my x-rays without ever bothering to acknowledge I was in the room. Even worse, I overheard students actually making fun of me, while I sat in a chair, with my mouth pried open, unable to speak or move. Then someone had the gall to say (not to ME, of course) it was my own fault for not taking care of my teeth, unaware and uncaring of the fact that I came from a low-income family, who didnt take me to my first dentist visit until I was sixteen years old, or the fact that I had not even really been fully educated about dental care, until I was in my early twenties, which by that point I had more than a few problems with my teeth, due to my lack of knowledge and education about dental care, and the fact that I didnt have the means to visit a dentist regularly. My last visit ensured I would never return to this program again, after (yet again) having them talk about me, rather than TO me, and fail to provide me with any information about what exactly was wrong with my teeth/gums. While the students here are capable, my personal experience is that they lack any bedside manner or professionalism, when it comes to treating people kindly, or talking to them about their dental care and how to resolve present issues and prevent future ones. I would not recommend this program to anyone who had another option. Much of the time it was as if the right hand had no idea what the left hand was doing and vice versa. They are incredibly difficult to get on the phone, they dont return calls, and overall I find much of the staff/students there unprofessional, and lacking empathy.

I don’t like how they treated my mother - their students are allowed to talk down to people. The student selected to work on my mother had horrible people skills and drilled her tooth down so far that a root canal is no longer an option. Partials or an implant is now required due to her lack of knowledge.

My daughter had a jaw problem for 10 months. No local MD or Dentist could offer any solutions. Some even told her that she would have to live with the condition, which was constant pain everyday, not to mention the inability to eat. She lost close to 40 pounds. After months of searching for a solution we located Dr. Nigel Matthews at the UNC School of Dentistry, who was recommended by about the 8th Dr. that she visited. Dr. Matthews performed multiple tests, and showed sincere concern. Surgery was performed, and after less than a month, she is 95% back to normal. Dr. Matthews is HIGHLY recommended. None better.

I went in to get a consultation on getting corrective jaw surgery. I was contacted about a month after getting all of the molds, xrays, and pictures done. Dr. Blakey explained the procedure, the risks, and everything it entailed. I told him right then I wanted the surgery but he wanted me to think it over because it is an appearance and life altering surgery. He told me once I had a decision to email his assistant with my answer. The weekend past and on Monday I emailed his assistant with my decision to go forward with the surgery. A week had past and still no response. I emailed multiple times and still no response. I was getting the feeling Dr. Blakey really didnt want to do the surgery. My orthodontist had to get in touch with Dr. Blakey to see why it was taking so long. At this point I had been waiting for some kind of response for almost 3 months. Dr. Blakeys assistant called my work phone number and left a message. Mind you every other call I had gotten from them was to my cell phone. I called back an hour after I missed the call and got the assistants voicemail. I left a voicemail. Everyday for 3 weeks straight (In October 2015), I called and got the voicemail every time.To this day(April 2016) I never got a response. It was important for me to get the surgery as soon as possible as Im getting married May 29, 2016 and wanted to make sure I had enough time to heal. I ended up going with another surgeon and had to pay again to have molds, xrays and photos taken. I was very disappointed because I heard great things about Dr. Blakey.
