I have been living at the Barrington in Independent Living for 5 years. I have many new friends and have enjoyed learning a host of new activities and continuing with my old favorites. I am really sorry that so many people, including a Current writer, do not fully understand about the Chapter 11. The Barrington is far from closing its doors. We are in negotiations with the companies that want to purchase us. We are not closing!!!!! The Barrington offers 4 areas of help: Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Support and Skilled Nursing all under the same roof. You cannot realize what a blessing this is to older people who cannot drive. Picture this: You can no longer care for your spouse. They need more help than you can provide. If they were at the Barrington, each could be in their own apartment; one with the care they need and you could see your spouse every day; even eat with them. The staff is very caring and supportive!! I would give the Barrington 5 stars.

I am so thankful my Mother has been taken out of this place. After almost 5 yrs, it stated out great, but has drastically declined. They have no policy or procedures that they are willing share when asked during COVID-19. They are extremely unprofessional, money is more important then patient care, they can not even take a temperature correctly or have the proper equipment to do so. They do not listen to the the state when making changes to their policies. They give family members less then 6 days to make health care decisions for their loved one during COVID. If we don’t want to do what they suggest (because they wanted your loved one to be moved to a higher level of care, which is double the cost) they have the audacity to tell us to come get our loved one! Do NOT take your loved one to this facility! The Plaza Dir used to be kind and compassionate now its all about the money and patient care is nonexistent. They are poorly staffed, under staffed, lack of compassion, food is awful, we had no other choice but to move my Mother out. I wish we would have done it way sooner then later! Good Luck Barrington I do not wish you well!

The Barrington of Carmel is a good start for a person who wants to learn something but it also has it downs to it as well. I am a former CNA who worked there and for the most part it was great BUT They have very poor management staff. Everywhere you work will have rules but Im just wondering if you have a NO smoking policy why does the housekeeping manager, Jennifer McDaniel smoke in her office all the time, and no one else is allowed to..? If the management doesnt have to follow rules why does anyone else have to??? I understand the company has filed bankruptcy but you continue to take peoples money and thats not right. I in turn left because I needed more money and I cant be left in the dark because no one has sat anyone down and told them the truth of the building being auctioned off, and EVERYONE can potentially lose their job. I have been in that situation before, and that isnt good especially when you have a family. Honestly your HR personnel isnt wrapped to tight either. I remember a few coworkers and myself went there and she just sat there and didnt even come to the door or acknowledge our presence. Even the director of nursing, Annie ignores the request of the residents and she is in charge, and this is someone we are suppose to learn from. Thats truly impossible to do. So please tell me who do you really get help from when you have a staff who doesnt care and most are not even qualified to be in the position, and that smokes on the campus. Overall The Barrington has some great employees that care, great residents, but in all honesty I would never allow my relatives to come and stay there. My recommendations for the company is: it is not always the employees because the higher ups tend to forget their jobs and often break rules, and they are the people we are suppose to learn from. Bad management will make you lose people.

I am a former CNA at the Barring of Carmel. The facility is beautiful and the nurses and other CNAs I worked with were awesome. The reason I give this facility a 1 star is because the management refuses to acknowledge the fact that their scheduler is complete trash. Not only does she not show up for work half the time, but when we were short, she did not care nor decide to come in and help where needed like a scheduler at any other facility does. She has verbally stated multiple times that she does not like people and if she gives attitude do not take it personal. As a scheduler, that is not the type of attitude to have . Management needs to realize that the day they get people in that respects us employees and treats us like we deserve, will be the day employees would actual stay employees at the Barrington.

I am highly disappointed with the Barrington as I see it going down the drain right in front of my eyes, my mother has lived here since the doors opened. Wed love to move her out unfortunately we locked in to a fee, half a million dollars to be exact so she cannot leave or shell lose it. Management is horrible and keeps getting worse by the day. My advise to whoever buys this place is to clean out all the managers, they have failed miserably. I have contacted management and they do not return phone calls. Jesse the ED behaves as if he has no hurt his focus is solely on the money, I have called Kara the administrator numerous times to no avail my calls are yet to be returned. This place is being run by first time managers with no experience and they have destroyed it! They have lost so many good nurses and cnas due to mistreatment, I have overheard these poor girls discussing their grief and my heart breaks for them, if they could only treat them better. Our parents build rapport with these nurses and cnas and not long you hear they are gone! management needs to really sit down and think why they have a very high turn over as they do. I was just told by my mother that they are days that there is only one nurse in the entire building covering assisted living, memory care and skilled care because they are short of nurses, that is unacceptable and should be reported to state as that is putting our loved ones lives in jeopardy. The food quality has gone down, under staffed in the kitchen. Couple weeks ago I was having dinner with my mother, a family member asked for dessert and the waiter told her to go get it herself in the kitchen. For the amount of money we are paying, services should be 5 star. Housekeeping only cleans the rooms once a week if they are lucky! my mothers toilet is badly stained it hasnt been scrubbed in a long time. They have her paying $80 more for laundry services which never gets washed in time and they are constantly losing it. There is only 1 big washing machine and 1 stackable to accommodate 30+ people I have tried to do the laundry myself but cant its always in use, the cnas do laundry for the building and at the same time they are expected to care for our loved one. I would not recommend anybody to the Barrington unless tremendous change take place.

Ive been on a search for a home for my mother and I went to tour the facility over the weekend on their dementia unit. I was greatly appalled as to what I observed, I choose to go at dinner time as it is the peak for sun downing and weekend when management is not around. I was told that they have 28 beds, 1 nurse and 3 aides, but when I visited there were only 2 aides as they were running short and 26 patients. The nurse and aides were responsible to serve dinner and feed patients, they could not control patients as they kept getting up and walking around. The staff looked burnt out and it was a horrible site. There is lack of activities, the activity room was not inviting at all and I was told that on the activity they had on that day was to watch a movie, that is not stimulating enough for dementia unit. I am a nurse and a dementia unit manager at another facility, in my 21 years of experience I have never walked into a dementia unit with such patient to staff ratio, I asked about the staff break schedule, I was told they are allowed only one 30 minute break and no other short breaks. It is not a safe environment, if you care for your loved one look elsewhere. I wish I could move in my mother into my facility but because I am the manager there it is not allowed.

I went to the Barrington to meet with a Mary Ellen, whom I found of astonishingly distasteful character. Not only was she 45 minutes late for our meeting, but during which she openly mocked a resident with severe dementia. I was astonished by this and when I confronted her about this she met me with a childish eye roll, laughed and belittled me. I would never allow my loved ones to stay here, especially if they have special needs, and cannot believe anyone would employ such a despicable woman.

Since I put my mother in this place 8 weeks ago its been one thing after another! Lets start with $300 missing form her room! Then literally after she has been there for 6 weeks I moved her belongings all in and 2 days later they tell me she needs more care than they can provide so want her in Memory unit. (price doubles of course) She had only seen a DR once in 6 weeks. They say her confusion could be a UTI but have not bothered to get a screening to know for sure! Never ever communicated back to me and hired a full time nurse that is suppose to be $25 an hour for 4 hours a day but my bill reflects $9000 in nurse care and her monthly stay is only $3750 so an extra $9000 because they cant do their jobs! DO NOT TAKE ANYONE you know here! Money hungry is all they are!
