I am sad that I can not write a good review! The upper management, nursing director, social workers, cleaning crew, dietary, are very good. With that being said follow through in regards to ongoing issues are just that, ongoing!!!! For 14 months there have been several issues but the biggest one has to do with showers. Its been an uphill battle to ensure my loved one gets their scheduled shower. I probably call every other week because it doesnt get done, or even offered. Not sure why this is such a problem and its very disheartening to see our elderly get neglected to this extent. Giving each person one or two weekly showers should not be this hard! Also, in my experience water is not given to residents often enough, Im talking days! We make sure our loved one has snacks and bottled water within reach...how sad!Im sharing publically because reaching out privately isnt getting me anywhere. It all comes down to the caregivers....some are compassionate and provide good care. Some give adequate care. Then there are those who really should not be trusted with this vulnerable population. Ive heard cruel and abusive remarks (they didnt realize I was on the phone hearing the whole thing) which tells me they are in the wrong line of work. This was said to be the best facility.....yikes!

My stay here was the worst time of my life. Food was incredible, I wouldnt feed it to my cat. Housekeeping is a joke. The traveling nurses dont care about doing a good job because they know theyre getting paid no matter. Some of the staff seem to care but they are so outnumbered by the rest that it is truly pathetic. If this is considered one of the best facilities in the area I cant even imagine what the other hell holes are like.

A family member was transported here for rehab. He was brought down from St. Albans by ambulance. No one met the ambulance to admit the patient. The front desk paged the admission personnel and no one showed. Finally the ambulance crew brought him to his room on their own. There was no doctor to check on him when he arrived. We have too many complaints to list them all here. My family member shared a room with another person, which was fine, but they brought my family members medicine into him while he was in the restroom where they had left him for 20 minutes in spite of him using the call button repeatedly. They left his medicine unattended on the bedside table with visitors in the room. That is a state violation!!! Both my family member and the other person in the room did not have their call buttons answered in even a remotely timely fashion. He did not receive the wound care and other care that he should have received until we got in their faces. He is a diabetic and he did not get a diabetic menu by any stretch of the imagination. Elderwood has a no smoking policy but one of their nurses took him out and offered him a cigarette. I was called later by Elderwood notifying me of their no smoking policy and I was basically called on the carpet for family members taking him out to smoke. I firmly informed the administration person who called that it was their nurse who took him out the first time and it was their nurse who broke their policy. Family assumed that since the nurse had taken him out, it was okay for us to take him out. There is gross neglect and a huge lack of communication at that facility. I would never recommend this place to anyone!!! My family member was there for only a week and we removed him from there today to finish rehab with Home Health in a safe environment. I am only giving it one star review because I was unable to post if I didnt give it at least one star. It does not deserve any stars at all.

I would not even give this place 1 star. The staff was so rude and the place was very dingy. Patient care is not their main concern I was very happy to remove my family member from this horrible place. I would not send my worst enemy here. You can’t thrive in a place like this.

I had the pleasure of being a patient there and was treated so well that I referred Rosemary Barrows to go there for her rehab.

Last weekend, a representative of Elderwood at Burlington came to Meadowbrook Healthcare and put a recruitment flyer on every employee’s vehicle, attempting to recruit away our dedicated crew of nurses and LPN’s. Where we understand the difficulty behind recruiting and retaining good nursing staff, we are disappointed at this blatant act of trespassing and disrespect for our facility, as well as the unprofessional manner in which it was done. When it comes down to it, our staff are caring for the most fragile members of our community and we should show them respect by conducting recruitment activities in the proper time, place and fashion. Is this type of approach indicative of the type of care they provide as well?Sandy Geddes, Community Relations CoordinatorMeadowbrook Healthcare
