Where a medical emergency is treated like a criminal offence. 10+ hour wait time, and I was kicked out at hour 10, separated from my fiancee, right along with a mother being separated from her autistic son. This hospital is an absolute disaster. DO NOT go to John Hopkins if you value your safety. Im absolutely disgusted.

Security ladies at the emergency are very rude, my husband is being addressed by the nurse after 3 hours and for 3 hours they kept patients waiting without any treatment because they are waiting for the COVID results to come back negative. After which they are again waiting for approximately an hour to get their room. The ER won’t communicate information over the phone as well.

My son was sent there by patient first for an enlarged heart and shortness of breath. He got there around 8pm on 9/08, It is now 2:41 pm and he still has not been seen by a doctor. This is very scarey situation for him and all of us. We would like some answers. Patient First was very alarmed how enlarged his was and told him it could be fatal. This is crazy. Bayview isnt much better either. Franklin square has an excellent ER but know he would probably stay and their care upstairs is atrocious he decided not to go there. I know they are overworked by frankly Hopkins has had this issue way before the pandemic.

This is the worst hospital in east baltimore. They have you wait 13 plus hours to be seen if you are lucky. You can ask to speak with the charge nurse that will never happen or a supervisor yea right big fail. This hospital do not care about the community or there patients. They will literally wait on you to leave to make there job easier. You can die and no one would know it. Avoid this hospital by any means.

Let me first start by saying the long wait you may find in the ER is beyond worth it for these amazing nurses and doctors. Everyone down to the cleaners and nutrition team were nothing less than helpful. Always remember when visiting and ER at any point traumatic cases can come into the ER and that will make you wait time longer. Think about it, what if you came in with a life threat, you won’t be able to wait for someone with a cut finger to go before you. This team has helped me so much and I am so incredibly thankful for a determined group of doctors that actually listened to me and were determined to find out what was wrong. Be patient with your hospital staff I can assure you they are trying their best. Thank you John’s Hopkins for providing top of the line patient care.

If I could give a zero I would. Had to go because surgical incision was infected and urgent care refused to deal with it because liability, so we had to go to ER and wait 10 HOURS before we finally asked whats going on and were told oh, we were going to let the attending do that... On the next shift. No sense of urgency whatsoever, they have two waiting rooms, one for show and another they shuffle you into out if sight where patients come in and dont leave for hours. Was in there three hours without a soul leaving the room. Staff chatting and laughing in the hallways while people are suffering and not being seen. People try to say oh its because too many people abuse the ER but honestly, in every time Ive been to the ER, its only legitimately sick people and people who were told they had to go to ER by insurance or turned away at other locations. Stop blaming the patients for bad quality of care.

If I can give this place a negative stars I would. I am originally from NYC and just recently moved to Baltimore a month ago. My girlfriend and I came here because she wasn’t feeling well at all and we saw Trump speak glowingly of the hospital during his time with covid. Obviously we weren’t getting Presidential treatment but we figured it was a good hospital to go to. We arrived at 9pm and it is currently 5:30am and we are still waiting!!!. In all my years in NYC I’ve never been this long in an ER this is criminal how they operate this facility, even Lincoln Hospital which many New Yorkers rate as the worst hospital in the city would never keep you waiting this long. I usually don’t write reviews but this needs to be said, stay away if you can!!

The best thing that they could do is open an urgent care adjacent to the ER and divert people there who truly are not a serious issues. The public does not understand that the ER is for SERIOUS or life-threatening medical issues. But the hospital cannot turn away care so the wait ends up being 8-10 hours.

Had no issues in getting my mother in the ER during the pandemic. It was somewhat inconvenient to have to walk around to the main entrance on the New Orleans side in order to get to the ER. Triage was professional and understanding of what my mom needed. Wait time before she was admitted was surprisingly quick-within 30 min she was in and under an hour, she got the assistance she needed. Appreciate that

I took my husband to the ER this morning. We were greeted outside and ask if we needed a wheelchair which was very helpful. The check in process was quick and friendly. His oxygen level was very low so he was taken back right away. Because of COVID I wasn’t able to stay but they were very reassuring and gave me a paper with the ER number and told me to call back and check in. I called back later and his nurse gave me an update. I am very pleased with the process and care he is receiving.

I came to this Er as I hurt my eye at work around 1:30 pm and got there about 3:30. I was registered twice and saw a nurse who gave me ibuprofen in the span of 8 hours I was there. I left without seeing the doctor at 11 pm. To say that it was a super depressing and frustrating experience is an understatement. Deplorable attitude towards human beings and lack of kindness. There were definitely some nice nurses, but I think they seemed overworked and understaffed. When I talked to a triage nurse again to see if I could get some kind of gauge of how long it would take, she tried but couldn’t give me anything but a vague assurance it might be before midnight I would see someone. I just couldn’t stay any longer. I have a son at home. But as I talked to other patients around me, many had been there going on 10-12 hours with very little accomplished in that span of time. If that’s going to be the norm, they need to provide easier access to food. Two snack vending machines are not acceptable or enough for people that are ill. I felt weak just sitting there and taking in the lack of love there. Sad sad place. I will never go back there. Unless I am forced kicking and screaming. Sad that they are supposed to be best hospital in world. BS.

I specifically told the individual at the desk that I needed to see an ENT, as I had a foreign object lodged in my eardrum. I waited for 5 1/2 hours until the pain got so bad I had to speak up. I was, told that all specialists had left earlier that evening and that they didnt know when I could be seen. Then the individual basically accused me of only being there for pain medications - I never once stated I wanted medications. I just wanted the object out of my ear! I wouldnt take a dead cat to this ER.

I had a terrible experience here. When I arrived a man assaulted one of the staff members, so my check-in was delayed as they dealt with that- but was given no instruction so I just sat there for 30 minutes until they stopped gossiping. Then I finally got checked in. I was triaged quickly, my doctor had instructed me to go to the ER because I probably need to be admitted and they had called ahead to give them a heads up I was coming in, from a hour and a half away. I am leaking fluid from my ear, which has happened and required surgery before On top of that I am running a fever and pregnant. Because I had a fever they had me get covid tested, which I understand. So they carted me off to a separate area for covid testing where they placed an IV to get labs and did my nose swab. They placed me in a hallway to wait for my results with other patients waiting on their results which made me feel very unsafe for my pregnancy. Once my result came back negative they allowed me to go back the waiting room, with more people. Where I continued to wait for 11.5 hours. With no updates unless you asked. Everytime I asked I was told another hour. As other patients who had gotten there after me were taken back, but others who were there before me were not. I do not understand the triage system here, leaking spinal fluid is absolutely an emergent situation as meningitis is a concern. While I was there after my initial triage they only came around to take my vitals twice in 11.5 hours. Each time my blood pressure and heart rate were elevated, but not addressed. I am a patient at Johns Hopkins and I usually have great experiences but there ER is horrible. After sitting there all day I called my fiancé to come pick me up- he had gone home because they would not allow him inside because of covid procedure. I made the decision to leave as I am pregnant, had not eaten since breakfast that morning, was incredibly exhausted and in pain. When I informed them I was leaving they told me they understood and to call my PCP. I told them I would be informing my surgeons who had been the ones that instructed me to go there for admission to the hospital and that it was absurd to have people wait this long to be seen. The amount of people I had been exposed to was sickening. I am so nervous about covid and hope I did not pick it up while waiting. So frustrated with this experience.

Horrible experience. I have Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer and have been dealing with Infection from complications with a port. I wanted to be seen as I could feel I had a residual infection from a previous procedure... I sat there in the common population for 4 hours. All they did was do a covid test. After I overheard one person saying (when he complained about his wait) the nurse said there had people there for over 13 hours. More and more people kept coming in looking very sick.... I am immune deficient. I left. It is unconscionable to leave sick people sit like that. There has to be a better way. There has to be a commitment to better management of treatment. I felt the “C” team was running the show.

He was put in a wheelchair that could only be pushed by a second person from behind, and due to not being able to see was literally unable to get himself food or water & left sitting uncomfortably over night. 14 hours is so ridiculous of a wait on top of staff seeming careless. Worst Emergency Room I have ever been in!! I never write reviews but, I really feel the public needs to be warned!! Was put in the hallway for 9 1/2 hours!! Talked about my diagnosis and all my personal business in front of other patients and staff!! Went to get a Pap smear done the Staff left the door wide open!! I was so upset!! Staff plays on their phones and talks about their personal lives loudly, they talked about other patient’s diagnoses and personal information!! I could literally tell you everyone’s business!! HIPPA is a joke to them!! Very unprofessional!! Then in the middle of my discharge the doctor pretty much told me that I was not important enough and that I would have to wait until she was done with a trauma patient!! Which I understand, but there was other doctors everywhere and we had to wait another 2 hours just to be discharged!! Absolutely unprofessional!!

Beyond slow and confusing. The care staff I have been able to see far are competent (still waiting to see a doctor), but the check in staff are apathetic and the registration process is pretty much designed to make sure you are in debt before you have chance to realize you are going to wait hours. It has been 4 hours so far and the only thing they have done is take my BP, temp (incorrectly I might add) and most importantly for them - my payment information. Came here for my eye because they are supposed to have a dedicated eye ER but that is a lie. I am still going through the regular ER situation and then I MAY get to see the opthamologist IF they page him. Then I get to pay the overpriced parking for the HOURS I will end up being here. So go to any other ER if you can. Cant say they are better but cant be much worse.

Horrible emergency room. Go anywhere else if you can. Very long 11 hour wait , with poor communication and health care. Union memorial is way better. Or university of Maryland. Went in at 10 pm on Saturday night. They were extremely slow and understaffed. They move you around various rooms every few hours to create the illusion they are doing something, but not actually providing any helpful treatment. My friend had a gashed lip and tooth knocked loose. We requested to see an ENT doctor, who was on call. We waited around for 11 hours getting moved around various rooms, waiting for the ENT. At the end of the 11 hours, we find out that the ENT declined to provide treatment and wanted us to go to oral surgeon or dentist. This occurred early in the evening, but we were never informed until 8 am the next morning. So we were waiting around for treatment from ENT for no reason. The staff should have communicated this sooner, instead of having us wait for so long.
