Dear everyone, can you answer a phone? Could you return a voicemail? If so, go apply for a job with the VA because its obvious that they desperately need your assistance. Despite leaving FOUR voicemails over the last week to get a CT scan for my lungs, I still havent received a single call back. Of course, your consult is only good for 10 days so this is a great system you guys have here. Im so glad that the people who work here are so busy they cant find the time in an entire week to return a single phone call. I wish we all could have jobs with such a low performance bar.

My friend’s surgery was postponed. He has stage 4 cancer. Seriously, after he did bowl prep etc. Rescheduled and won’t guarantee for Monday!.Pathetic. His attending nurse I met had such poor English that I don’t think she fully understood me.Today, Saturday, August 14, 3pm, the only entrance is the ER. I walked around the building trying to see how to enter.Upstairs was a ghost town. No one checks you in; checks masks. It is. 3rd world country. Nurse station on his floor was one nurse who ignored us. Anyone could walk in off the street and steal anything. I am contacting my senators.I need to get him out of there asap. He is dying, and they cancel his surgery. They won’t confirm Monday.I have had two colonoscopies via Hopkins, and the doctors etc were scheduled, and there was no question that anything would be cancelled. The hospital is an embarrassment.Richard

I called to set up an appointment and the guy sounded impatient and didnt even acknowledge what I said when he put me through to another line, then the lady that answered the phone had the same type of irritated, impatient attitude with very little dialog. Please change the telephone answering intro message. Everyone is not calling about CV-19 or vaccines. Its very frustrating listening to a long-winded message about something that doesnt pertain to them. I am just trying to set up an appointment. Also, please add instructions in the appointment email if the video appointment falls through due to poor connections or whatever reason. Overall, you all are doing an excellent job.Update: The appointment phone operator just hanged up on me after not receiving a response after 3 seconds from answering my call. Ill had the opportunity to come to the Baltimore VA medical center twice. The first was the ER ( 1 year Before Covid) it was fairly empty however, the wait was extremely too long. Over 6 hours. Once I was finally seen the doctors were very good and knowledgeable.Second time. They need a better direction system for the location of their parking garage 😤. The building definitely gets off that outdated feeling. The staff was good but not the friendliest. Unfortunately I can only rate a 2/5 simply because I been to better VA hospitals. The San Antonio and Chicago VA hospitals were top of the line and overall amazing.Overall, its free healthcare and they will help with whatever you need to be seen for, it may just take awhile.

The Pharmacy here is THE worst. Shout out to the Manager/Supervisor Crystal. She definitely has no sense of continuity of care, empathy, service recovery, or communication skills. Everything needed in the Healthcare Industry. Ive opted to pay $150 a month for Medicare just so I dont have to deal with the pharmacy and Primary Care physicians at the Baltimore VA. Shameful.(I do want to say the dental department is gets 4 stars. The only reason Im not saying 5 is because the people in the front never answer the phone or return messages and are always looking down when you walk in.)Edited after response from VA-Im not sure who Mr. Pendleton but your ability to respond to a post that clearly has my name in bold letters is indicative of the incompetence. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but something needs to be said for Veterans. If you are a retired Veteran, It is probably in your best interest to have a back up plan for your health care needs. Do not completely depend on the VA Health System. The VA Health System is completely unreliable. This example has happened to my father several times. He would order his medications by the automated system. These medications would come in the mail in 10 to 14 days. This length of time is not the main issue. He opens the package only to find that the most important medicine will be missing from the package. The paper for this medicine will be present in the package but not the medicine itself. All the other prescriptions that were ordered will be present except the prescription where withdrawal symptoms can be experienced. Any competent Health Care Professional will tell you this is unprofessional. Many of these medications need a gradual dosage decrease and not simply just stopped. Until he contacts his Doctor at a VA Clinic, he would suffer many days of agony until a temporary prescription could be filled. As you guessed it, It would take another 10 - 14 days for medicine in question to be received. Our Veterans deserve professional health care. Many have almost given their lives and require lifetime healthcare. These unprofessional mistakes could be avoided by competence.Update: I have updated the VA Health System to average Health Care. After informing his VA Clinic Primary Care Doctor of his withdrawal symptoms, They quickly filled a temporary prescription at a local pharmacy. I truly believe they need to take a closer look at their Medication dispensing procedures to avoid these errors. And they did respond to my review giving more confidence in their journey toward HealthCare Excellence. As noted above, When dealing with your Healthcare a second opinion may be warranted.

This place is a joke. You come to the ER because your not feeling good, you explain to person after person what is going on, just to have the dr. Walk in hours later to not check you or anything just stand there and say well we more than likely won’t have an answer for you as to whats going on and leave. Schedule an appointment with your primary care. I too would also rather go into debt and go to john hopkins than ever come back here again.

After experiencing squeezing pain and spasms in my back and chest for several days, I contacted the nurses hotline and was instructed to come to the emergency room. Ive explained to several Drs, nurses and aids that the pain doesnt go away, it decreases to a 7 and back up to a 10. Because of the pain my blood pressure was dangerously high. Although, I was given a plethora of tests, no one took me seriously. I was constantly questioned about my alcohol intake and diet (I do not drink and I do not eat or cook fried foods) and not so much about the pain and what measures I took to cope with it. I provided answers to the questions that they were not asking because I wanted to be sure that my info was well documented. I was given a prescription to fill for a digestive aid because maybe I have an ulcer. When I asked what does that have to do with my back and chest pain, I was told to start with that and follow up with my provider. When I mentioned that my doctor doesnt have any appointments available until mid September, (which is why I am in the emergency room) and if she has any recommendations for the pain the response that I received was yeah, I know.. covid. Again, I asked about pain management, since ice packs, biofreeze, bengay, and warm baths with epson salt wasnt helping I was told to try Tylenol or ibuprofen. Seriously? I was told that I could get dressed and go. So, I grabbed my cane and left. While sitting in the lobby waiting for my husband to pick me up, I reviewed the discharge papers. My pain level at discharge was a 7, however the Dr wrote that it was a 0. That was a Iie. Also, I came in because of back and chest pain, and yet my discharge paperwork stated that I complained of abdominal and back pain. Not true. No mention of chest pain. The doctor keptskept that my labs were fine. I am not confident that were looking in the right area. (The doctor seemed surprised that my cholesterol and glucose levels were fine. Of course my cholesterol and glucose levels are fine. Not all black people eat fried food and drink alcohol.) Ive never had a complaint about this facility until yesterday. It took a lot of effort to finally come to the emergency room. My pain was severe and your lack of regard made me feel worse. Shame on you VA. This is not the way to honor veterans while they are physically at the worst and are reluctantly coming to you for medical care.

He showed up at the scheduled time, and they did all the pre-op preparation. Then, when he was brought into the operating suite, they discovered that one person on the team who couldnt be replaced, was not present. Thats why I gave only three stars. This, apparently, wasnt due to a sudden emergency. It was just a mix up in scheduling. At least they told him the truth about it. Thats a good thing.Sept, 2019My son had an appointment today, and I went there with him. He was late for the appointment, but they saw him anyway. He had two physicians. This was one of my first contacts with the VA medical system. I eventually had my surgery through the orthopedic unit here. The surgery was successful, but the recovery was super difficult. The doctors Ive had were decent. I had one negative encounter with a receptionist who was extremely rude to me when I asked her to guide me to the seating area for my appointment to wait. My doctor was a part of the shock trauma team across the street. He did great job keeping me updated on the procedures and surgery. The store was not very impressive as other locations Ive been. The pharmacy process was reasonably adequate for pickup at this location. There is underground parking for patients that was accessible, but small for pickup trucks. I have had to deal with many of the pre-op workers and follow up workers. The first doctor I had was a bit slow and older, but seemed to know how to put me at ease. I have had several follow up appointments where this location is firmly a decent location that I have been treated.

The nurse on call was so ignorant and unhelpful that I almost lost my cool. She treated me like I was asking her for gold; I was just trying to change my fathers appointment to another day. He’s been dealing with a life threating situation that I felt needed to be addressed. I also was really disappointed because I’ve worked in costumer service all my life and I’ve always tried to make people comfortable and assured. His soldiers were hurt and killed and he was knocked unconscious as he helped them. When he returned home from war, he developed a problem with alcohol which is why I had brought him to the hospital. The doctor who saw my relative told him that he should leave to open the bed for another soldier, implying that my relative should battle out that addiction on his own, and as if some other soldiers life was somehow more important than his. He is dead now. I remember a woman entering the room to re-stock supplies who yelled at him in this state he was in. I was completely shocked by the behavior of the staff, and I held the entire weight of my relative to carry him out of that hospital and down the street because they were wrong, and I wont stand for it.

For the most part the staff here are rude, typically dont act like they care and dont seem to know what they are doing in the first place. Ive been here several times, not by choice and today is the second time in a row Ive left the Dental Clinic in pain. Due to the fact that they are understaffed and over booked they didnt even give time for the numbness to take effect. Other clinics at this specific facility Ive gone to just submit a refill for prescriptions that never worked to begin with. Maybe its do to the fact that many other doctors/dentists have there own practices and if they do a poor job they will go out of business, but thats just my guess. Although I dont write many reviews Im pretty sure this is the only bad review I have ever written on google, but from what Ive been through now, it literally feels justifiable.Update: The patient advocate office, as well as the doctors who I received treatment all were in contact with me shortly after writing this review. All of my concerns were addressed and resolved in a timely manner.

Location is tough if there is ever a ball game and in general. Its the VA, but the staff at this location is what sets it apart. Especially the individuals who work there, the OEF/OIF office, has always been great for me and my family. If you need help ask for Mr. Jim Wilkes...

I was refused a referral to dermatology. Now I am forced to pay for treatments for pre-cancer. I need biopsies to determine if I have cancer. This is a horrible system.I take the day off of work to see a doctor smack in the middle of the day.Doctors playing God. If I have cancer it was because I was refused a referral and this has been festering for years. A very broken system!!!! Makes me unproud to be American.

Dr Toreika Sanford is THE best doctor Ive ever had. She is so patient, sincere and actually spends my appointment time listening and understanding my health issue rather than rushing me through the process that if I ever move again Id love to bring her with me. You cant ask for a better doctor! On a side note... the VA in Baltimore is nothing like stories that have been made concerning no one caring about patients. The Baltimore VA actually puts their patients first. The only negative issue that Ive experience is trouble finding the underground parking garage - especially if I pay attention to my GPS.

The Dept of Veterans Affairs as a whole is NOT in the business of keeping veterans alive; it would cost too much money to provide Americas veterans with a standard of care exceeding that of a third world country. That being said, no VA health facility Ive been to epitomizes this view better than the VA Baltimore Health Center.First, its located smack dab in the hood of hoods. So, consider yourself lucky if you dont get robbed or carjacked trying to get here. Should you manage to make it to the underground parking, be advised that theyll only let you in with an appointment slip or VA identification card. So, if you dont have that, youll have to find parking, and risk your life walking over. Once inside, youll encounter VA employees who are wasting their lives away waiting to collect a pension, and have absolutely no desire to provide a standard of customer service to Americas veterans. My personal experience? I had a scheduled appointment for an MRI, and despite arriving early, I still wasnt seen until 30 minutes after my appointment time. The icing on the cake was midway through my appointment when some random doctor came in, asserted his authority and had me kicked off the machine in favor of his own patient. It was a scene right out of the TV show House. They expected me to wait, but of course, I left, because Im not one of the elderly, impoverished veterans who dont really have any other choice. Unfortunately, on my 45 minute drive home, I couldnt help but think about those older vets from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, etc., or a vet who may have been there for a more serious condition. With this in mind, I contacted the Patient Advocate, as I was instructed to do, and after spending three days trying to chase the woman down, she responded by saying It happens. There should be no wonder why the VA is in the news every year for their substandard care and various scandals. I also filed a compliant through the online system on the VAs homepage, but I never heard from anyone.I could go on and on with my experiences here, but I wont bore you with the details. You know those places you hear about where someone goes in for a flu shot and somehow walks out with MRSA or an amputated leg? This is that kind of place. If you can at all help it, go ANYWHERE else. Even if you must employ ObamaCare. In short, the VA Baltimore is a good place to go to get yourself killed.

Or is hard to even get an appt here so I decided I wanted a outside doctor who would care more! So after getting a outside doctor and trying to get my life together the VA is telling me that my outside doctor needs to give my prescription to them for a service connected disability instead of just getting me my meds like they usually did when they didnt even care about me! Now I have to jump through hoops to get the meds I need before I run out! This is a disgrace to is service men and woman who have service connected disabilities and issues! Free as long as they seem me once a year for a year supply but they didnt even care about me! Now jumping through hoops because I would rather use a outside doctor who cares!

This Med Cntr aint that place!!! nor are the local CntrLs.ALL of the working people from the janitor to the Specialist Dr.s to the parking attendents, and all between have always been kind and respectfull. I have always been proud of the Baltimore VA till today. To come into ER from a car accident yesterday and be sitting here for almost 2 hours while only 2 people have been called is unacceptable. I had to park in a pay garage as nothing was available on site and will cost me 20.00 if I get out. Just a side note....I walked out after 3 hours. This is terrible.
