I arrived 6 weeks ago unable to speak clearly, keep my eyes open, walk straight or chew. Within 10 minutes he had given me a preliminary diagnosis and was clearly and completely explaining the disease and treatment protocols. At all times, he was kind, understanding, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. When 3 weeks later my disease took an unexpected turn to a crisis, he got me into St. Joes immediately, contacted the Neurology Department doctors and kept track of my progress during my entire 1 week stay. The office staff is pleasant and professional and in particular his assistant responded quickly to all my questions and concerns. This is a great office and I could not recommend it more highly.

We were told that this practice takes our plan and when we got into the office, we were informed that our specific BCBS plan was not accepted. (pathway guided access). We were not sent out a reminder about the appointment either. I had to check in to make sure we were still scheduled. Three hours of worked missed. There was no apology for the inconvenience and we were told to do a private pay appointment would be $400.00 dollars. We walked out at that point. Called Laureate Medical Group and their amazing scheduling group walked us through the process and we are all set. Im a co-owner of a counseling practice and can say that no matter how good your clinicians are, if the patients dont feel valued when they walk in the door, they will have a negative experience overall. Having quality administrative support is paramount to good client care.

I changed neurologists to Dr. Gwynn years ago. He has treated me a long time for cervical dystonia. I could not possibly be more pleased with such a caring, professional doctor who has been awarded many well-deserved accolades and professional awards. Huge plus is his dry wit which he and I share on visits. I very highly recommend him! His staff is also outstanding!

I was referred to Dr Gwynn after my neurologist relocated. This practice is all about the money. I WAS seeing the doctor simply for a maintenance drug and yearly follow up. Unlike most doctors, who file with your insurance and then send a bill for the balance outstanding. The front desk refused me service until I would pay the estimate amount due. Not just an office visit co-pay but nearly $175, for a visit with his nurse practitioner. If that amount is truly my 20%, as they claim what are they billing the insurance company. The attitude of the receptionist was very condescending during my interaction. For these reasons, I have requested my records be transferred to my primary care physician and I seek a new Neurologist.

Atlanta Neurology called to fit me in earlier than original appointment due to a cancellation with their Nurse Practitioner, Brandy. I have been dealing with excruciating headaches causing vision disturbances and was put on probation at work due to these issues. I was so nervous nobody could “fix” me. Terrified I’d lose my job. Nice front staff. Signed in. I did wait for 20m, but I’m used to waiting for an hour to see the provider. Brandy was delightful. Made me feel at home and would actually listen to my problems vs cutting me off like other doctors. I would make her my PCP if I could. I’m very happy with my experience and would recommend to others.

Matthews Gwynn, MD recently saw my 83 mother after her ER brain scan revealed lesions. Though he did not have good news for our family, he was very kind and patient with both my mother, father, my sister, and I as we navigated a new diagnosis of dementia. There are no cures or treatments available, so his advice was not medical, it was more about life changes that all of us could expect. We are grateful for his professionalism and practical advice.

If I could provide this practice a 0 Star review, I would. Interestingly and fortunately, I never got past the phone. For starters, when setting up the appointment, you will have to repeat everything at least twice. I was referred to this practice by a really great doctor and I believe that there are equally great doctors or I would not have been referred. However, I have let the referring practice know for future reference and consideration relating to what I encountered. After providing all of our personal information and medical insurance coverage, it got a bit dicey. The same woman, began to go into the fees, she stopped once it was learned that I was in an accident. She then flipped a new switch and interjected that the insurance information was the at-fault party despite, what I had just informed of personal information. Next, she switched gears and told me that it would be a self-pay and expressed that the office practice policy is that it would have to be filed that way and then questioned litigation. Yet, she just stopped listening and seemed to make such determination without providing any specific reference. This was so odd, as this has not been a problem for any other medical provider that takes great health insurance. The phone interaction was very frustrating and for those that suffer any head issues, will have symptoms as a result of dealing with the front desk of this office.

I was seen by Brandy Hughes and she was nice enough on my first visit. Started having a cycle of migraines lasting for 3 weeks. First off no one ever answers your call you must leave a message. I left a message with Lori Chastain on a Friday no call back. I left a message on Monday no call back I left a message on Tuesday no call back. I finally had to contact the Dr. on call at 5am Wednesday morning and let him know that I had been calling since Friday. He assured me someone would contact me back. Its now 12:00 on Wednesday still no call. I called back and left another message also with each message I left, I stated that I had called the day before with no call back. This is now day 4. Lori Chastain finally calls me back and I told her I had to find a new neurologist because I had been calling since Friday with no return phone call. She was exceptionally rude and unprofessional; she was literally ARGUING back and forth with me telling me that I had not called and then tells me well Im glad you got another doctor. So why would a person with daily migraines LIE about calling their doctor? Why would I have the on call doctor paged at 5am on day 4 of not receiving a call back. Absolutely unprofessional and rude.

Staff is difficult to reach by phone. They conveniently book future appointments 6 months ahead of time,, but fail to inform patients of said appointment. Thats a creative but mendacious strategy for the office staff to generate revenue via no-show fees, but that is not conducive to establishing a clientele. There are other Neurology options in Atlanta. Now the doctors seem high quality, but access to doctors is gated by these office personnel with ulterior motives . Sadly, it seems that my experience is not unique, based on multiple reviews. The mandatory parking fee is also an unstated expense if you choose to visit this office.

Dr. Gwynn is a good doctor for people with easy, straightforward problems that don’t require too much of his time. He seems to strongly prefer not to deal with patients who need more than cursory care. He also does not explain possible side effects and consequences of procedures well, and when these side effects are brought to his attention, he sort of shrugs and acts like it was a distant afterthought. This doctor, at least concerning my care was the antithesis of proactivity, and I had to go elsewhere for conscientious care. So very disappointed in Dr. Gwynn. His staff was also very slow to react when I needed an appointment or had a request of any kind. They don’t even handle their own records or accounting, and the people who do handle records and accounting are only there one day a week.

I have been a patient of Atlanta Neurology for about 2 years suffering from chronic migraines. I am very happy with the professional staff especially Brandy Hughes and Laurie Chastain. There was a time when I traveled to the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago, IL for several years because the other Neurology and Headache specialists I saw provided no help or effective treatment plans. Not sure what or where I be now if it were not for Atlanta Neurology!

As a chronic migraine sufferer the non responsiveness of the staff has been so frustrating. I love my doctor but I’m so disappointed at the lack of empathy and concern with timely responses. This stuff puts me in the hospital. Three days is too long to not return a call. 😢

I was a patient of Brandie Hughes. I am not sure if it was Atlanta Neurology or her specific office; however, I had met my annual deductible but was told I had to pay for the visit up front $200 and that the insurance would just refund me. After my visit and paying the $200, I never heard anything about a refund. I called the office multiple times to inquire the status of my refund. I never received an update about my refund and was only sent a $25 check in the mail written from Atlanta Neurology 4 months later.

As the previous reviewers mentioned, this place is a joke. I wish I could give them no stars.I have severe neck and shoulder pain, and I found them online in my research after discovering that one of their doctors does Botox injections for this type of pain.I left numerous messages over a 2 week span with the doctor’s secretary, and my calls were not returned. Their website also supplies the doctor’s email address and encourages anyone to email him directly with questions. So I emailed him also and never got a response. I finally filled out a contact form on their website and a last hope to get in touch with them, and someone called me back. She was not friendly and said she wasn’t aware of my previous calls. I told her I followed the prompts and left her doctor’s secretary 3 messages. I also mentioned how I emailed the doctor directly as well, and her response was that she doesn’t even know his email. I told her, “He has it on your website and tells patients to email with questions, so it’s public knowledge.” She then asks me various questions, all of which had a hasty tone. She told me that they would not be offering me narcotics since I’m already seeing a pain management doctor. I said “of course, I never said I was asking for narcotics. I have stated from the beginning that I’m interested in Botox for pain. That’s it.” Then she asks what insurance I have, who my referring doctor is, what types of doctor’s I’ve seen, etc.. And after all of this unfriendly questioning, she states that he is booked out until July and they don’t even know his schedule for that month yet. And I was met with silence. I asked, “So what does that mean for me? Can I go ahead and book something now for July?” She said “No, you’ll just have to call his secretary back in a few weeks.” Just to be clear, this is the lady who we established at the beginning of the call has not called me back after I tried to reach her several times. Why even bother calling me back? The lady was very unfriendly with me, questioned me like it was an interrogation, and had no explanations or apologies in regards to their office’s lack of concern for me as a new potential patient. And after all that, she tells me to call back in a few weeks to the secretary who never responded in the first place. Why even go through all of the questioning with me if you weren’t going to let me schedule an appt anyway?I’ve never encountered such an unprofessional and horribly run doctor’s office. It’s a shame that they treat chronic pain patients with no respect.

The reception denied me service. Would not allow me to make a new patient appointment to be checked for vagus nerve damage as referred by an ER dr. Only reason given is that she does not think they could help and maybe i should call another neurologist. I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS OFFICE OR REFER ANYONE! BEWARE!Maybe they only service certain people.

Very unprofessional doctors office. Never go there.Charges also are exorbitant. If there was a 0 rating, I would give that. They called to fix a follow up appointment and fixed it for 1:45 pm. They changed it to 3:30 pm without informing me. I reached as per what was fixed 1:45 pm and waited and waited. After an hour of patiently waiting when I asked, lady at the counter just told thta the Doctor is running an hour late and dont have any estimate when can she see me.They never apologized that they forgot to inform me. Seemed like it was my mistake and they they are RIGHT.Charges for a 2nd (follow-up) visit just to give the MRI report was also quite high which they never cared to inform at the time of booking appointment.I am never going back again.Wish all of you good and healthy life. Hope you never have to go to this place.

Had an appointment scheduled in which I did not receive a confirmation call for. I called the office to confirm my appointment several times prior anyone answered and once the call was answered, I was told I had no appointment scheduled, in which a lady by the name of Chris began yelling at me telling me that there was no appointment scheduled. As a result, I have decided to seek another neurologist.

I would not recommend this place. I was referred by my primary doctor. The day before my appointment I was told that I would have to pay $350 OOP. I called my provider and it turns out that I have a health spending account which should have been verified when my insurance was verified. I filled out my forms prior to going to my appointment. When I arrived I was given more forms to fill out. Included was a list of fees. Right away I could tell that they nickel and dime their patients. I saw Brandy. She was really nice. We spoke for abt 30 mins. No real tests were run. She increased the doseage of a medication I just started taking. I was scheduled for a follow up appointment. I called back while I was leaving because I didnt feel like the appointment was productive. I wanted to know what I was being charged for exactly when nothing was done. I was told a new patient consultation. I ended up canceling my f/u appointment. A month or two later something told me to check my BCBS claims. I was charged $500 for a 30 min consultation. Maybe thats the going rate but they will not be getting anymore of my money.

My son and I had a very good experience with Dr. Gwynn and his staff this week. My son was told in the ER to see a neurologist within 7 days. After numerous phone calls with doctors offices all over town, Dr. Gwynns staff went the extra mile to schedule my son the following day. The staff were very helpful in obtaining records, and we waited a very short time before seeing the doctor. Dr. Gwynn came to the waiting room himself to get us--no seeing nurses and sitting around in a patient room. Dr. Gwynn could not have been more attentive, caring, knowlegable, or personable during his examination and consultation with us. It seems as though all medical practices these days are steeped in rules and procedures designed to make it more difficult to actually get needed medical care. And I am sure every practice has its bad moments. However, I was extremely impressed with Dr. Gwynn and his staff and would not hesitate to recommend him to others.

The reception scheduler did everything possible to discourage me from seeing the doctor... including dragging me through a litany of doubting questions for me to “justify” that seeing a neurologist.
