I was staying in Ann Arbor for a couple days after a camping trip and wanted to find a place nearby to get back into the gym after being in the boonies for a while. I stopped by a couple places in the area with unpredictable staffing hours before coming here. The facility was fantastic and the staff was very professional and helpful. I’ve been in a couple of LA Fitness locations before but I never really left feeling impressed. Here the equipment was very well taken care of, the wights felt brand new, and everything was kept very clean (something I value in a gym nowadays). Considering the above on top of the amenities offered, if I lived in Ann Arbor, LA Fitness would have my money and definitely has my recommendation.

I just had the most pleasant gym experience in so long. We just moved back to Ann Arbor and decided to join LA signature because they have the Kid Klub. I spoke with Austin on the phone and he told me and my son to come on in. He took the time to go through all the different options and got me the best deal for ME. Whitney watched my 1-year-old and he is just in love. She is amazing. I got to do my fitness assessment with Charles. He is an extremely knowledgeable and motivating fitness professional. I cannot wait to spend some time at these beautiful accommodations taking care of myself. A huge thank you to the whole team at LA in Ann Arbor!

If you need to speak to someone regarding something as simple as getting a literal membership at the gym, you can only do that for like an hour each week. I’ve gone in 3 times and called and apparently the front desk people don’t have any idea the rates for the gym they work out and the membership people are never available. Save your money and go somewhere else.

This Facility is AMAZING. I am from Michigan but go back and forth between here and Los Angeles and this LA Fitness is by far the best I have ever been to. It is Massive and has everything you could possible want in a gym for a seriously good price. The space is huge and clean, looks and feels brand new--the locker rooms are nice and I love the sauna. Disappointed in the COVID-19 precautions at this club. They require masks but do not enforce. Many people bopping between multiple machines with mask under chin and no cleaning afterwards. I do appreciate that they provide each member with a bottle of disinfectant to use for the duration of your workout.Staff are responsive and will approach the no-maskers if you request, but more consistent surveillance / enforcement would decrease risk of spread and limit reliance on members to hold others accountable (which risks hostility). I understand these businesses are staffing minimally but being open means being responsible and protecting the community.

Once COVID hit, the gym charged me my monthly membership fee even though the gym closed. I was promised a free month one the gym opened back up and a few weeks ago they charged me again. Just left from a workout at the LA fitness in Ann Arbor. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had. When walking out we witnessed 3 employees sitting up front, one of them claiming to be the manager with a personal speaker blaring music. This is the third time I have witnessed employees abusing the time clock. ( stealing from their own company) I called to speak to the manager and a girl answered by the name of cyndi I believe. I explained to her I would like to speak to a manager she stated their is no manager here! Asked if she could write my name down to have Mathew call us back? She stated he will be back Monday call then. I am extremely busy and I need him to call me. She was refusing to have him call me back. I asked her if it’s normal for them to sit on the counter ignoring costumers? She stated Yes! Then stated she didn’t like my TONE!? I was blown away! I explained to her I am very calm and this point now very much frustrated she is talking to me this way. Then I hear a male voice yell in the phone “WHAT DO YOU WANT?” And hung the phone up on me? My partner and I turned around to speak to them in person. We arrived again as we wanted to speak to someone who was in charge. The girl at the front was very defensive as at this point she knew this is not how we treat costumers. The kid who was sitting on the counter in a pull over Sweater stated he was one of the managers, this is a kid with a giant hickey on his neck that’s not professionally dressed. He stated he could take our name down and have someone call us back. At this point we need a fix now. I run multi million dollar offices and know if my employees acted like this it would not be tolerated. I explained to them before we left that when a costumer is upset you are there to humble yourself and apologize, with this if you can’t handle someone talking politely to you in regards to their frustration this is probably not the job for you. This is the face of your company, you want employees who are excited to work and make your guests feel invited. I am still in shock I had this experience and would like to receive a call back as we pay over a $100 dollars a month for this gym. Thanks,Tim and Albert

I have mixed feelings about the new LA Fitness on Maple Road north of Jackson.1. The pool: I like the pool and it’s warm enough to swim even when it’s cold outside. People are usually friendly and willing to share lanes. The staff seems to do a good job watching the bacterial count.2. The hot tub: It’s currently down due to mechanical issues, and it was down once before. Rather inconvenient, but life does happen. I don’t like the fact that there is no where to give a status say on a website if it’s back on or even knowing the estimated fix time.3. The cleanliness of the place is NOT up to par. I go in the evenings typically. The shower drains are full of hair and the locker rooms need to be more clean. Floor to be washed, lockers to be dusted, vacuumed. Not sure if it’s a work ethic issue or lack of paying enough issue.4. No Water Extractor: I really don’t like the fact that they don’t have a water extractor to remove the water from the suits after swimming. This feature would be part of a so called “Signature Club” in my opinion.5. Front desk: Allison is the best at the front desk. Very pleasant, sincere and receptive to requests and it’s very nice to see her when I arrive. Heather is also pleasant.5. Turn over. Not exactly sure how much turn over there is. I know that Brandon was very encouraging and conscientious but I think he’s no longer working there.

This place is scam. The worst personnel that I have been dealing with. When we opened the membership they didn’t say anything about the annual fee that they charge, and they just said there is a monthly payment only+initiation fee. Today, that we wanted to cancel our membership after three months, they said I will be charged the annual fee of $49. I felt betrayed as they never spoke about that when we started the membership. When I said it’s not fair, Ryan said “sorry if there was a miscommunication”. Very bad experience maybe that’s why the gym is always empty. STAY AWAY from this branch. I have been going to the LA Fitness different branches for more than 3 years now, but the Ann Arbor personnel are most dishonest and least professional ones. I hope I didn’t need to write this review but I have help others to know the truth. Instead of helping people, they just ask for hidden extra charges. Not Moral.

Thinking about joining? Here is a pros/consPros:1.Cheaper than YMCA and Liberty: $99 join fee and $39/month and annual $49. If they tell you more just walk away2.New Equipment: all of the equipment is brand new and plenty of it. It is kinda a glorified Planet Fitness3. Some have complained of parking but I think it is actually pretty goodCons:1. They have sales people that should be at a car dealership instead of a gym based on the tactics I observe. It is not a friendly process, more of a aggressive style attitude. Once a member, They come to each conversation from a standpoint of defensiveness as opposed to how can I help. Maybe this comes from all the old members who transferred constantly complaining about everything, not sure.2. Old LA fitness clients: there are a lot of very odd elderly people that came over from the old gym. They show up early and hang around all day just talking and sitting on the machines like it is an assisted living place. Its just strange. They dont have a track so these people just do laps around the floor in packs, through the weights and treadmills. extremely strange. They also just complain all the time about everything3. Music: for some reason they blare LA fitness channel at the highest level throughout the gym, along with commercials for LA fitness. Annoying4. The pool is strange. The have fitness classes with 4 people but they close out the whole pool so you cannot swim. Also when you can swim, you get attitude from anyone when you ask to share a lane. Finally they do something weird with the pool chemicals that does not taste/feel quite right, and the front desk person is the one I see back in the pool area doing tests and handling chemicals. In summary. It works for some people but for me I did not feel it suited my needs.

So let me say that the new facility is gorgeous. And given the state of the old location on State street, I dont blame the company just starting over. However I have some real problems with it.1. The machines are huge! I know that Im in the minority beings under 5 foot, but the fact that the stationary bikes cant all be adjusted for me to reach and that I have to do a military leg lift to get on a treadmill is not fun or inviting. Working out is hard enough, I dont want to feel intimidated by the gear.2. The sauna in the dressing room is really nice, but what idiot put a metal handle on the inside of it?3. The classes cost extra.Ill try it a few more times, the pool looks nice. But right now I am really debating if I will keep my membership.

I love this gym, everyone was clear about the cost and payments there would be. The daycare is great and I love all the girls there, they are professional and seem to enjoy the job so the kids are always happy. It’s refreshing to see a gym that actually cares to keep clean, I’ve been to many gyms and I’m surprised when places actually care. The only slight issue is some of the trainers, when they work in the general public area they can be rude and pushy. I feel very uncomfortable around a certain trainer because it always feels like he’s trying to pressure you to get out of his way, it’s very obnoxious trying to focus when you feel eyes on you. Trainer aside the gym is great!

I came here as a guest with a friend so I cannot attest to the cost of membership. The facility is very clean and the front desk staff appear to be attentive to your needs. Everyone gets a towel. The facility is open and has a separate area for the cardio machines, free weights and machines, and a mat area to do your own circuit or interval type workout. They have a pool, yoga studio, cycling studio and circuit training area. This area is only open to all members when a paid class is not in session. The parking is free and could probably become congested around busy times.

The ONLY good thing about this place is the people, specifically the weekday morning crew. Richard at the front desk and Patty, who cleans.Richard is a sweetheart who always greets you with the most heartfelt hello.Patty is a wonderful woman who takes her job very seriously. Every morning I see her scrub the womens locker room from top to bottom and Im pretty sure thats the only cleaning it gets. She loves her job because she loves the people she interacts with every morning. Let me be clear, Patty is amazing. So many of the people who come to this club say Patty and Richard are the only reason they stay. There is nothing else good about this club other than the proximity to my job, which is why I continue to go. The equipment sucks, and the few pieces of good equipment (rowing machine, ropes) they do have, they keep LOCKED UP and tell you you cant use it unless you buy a (disgustingly overpriced) personal training package. Every other LA fitness does have a personal training area with this type of equipment, but youre allowed to use it if theres not training session going on.Other than that, you have rundown equipment, jerks who dont re-rack their weights, and nighttime staff who dont clean up and leave it all for the morning. The location is no nicer than the Plymouth, Mi location which IS Included...towels, fancy soap, and slightly nicer equipment do NOT justify $628.88 for the first year and $477.88 thereafter.I’m sure there are plenty of wealthy people here that wouldn’t think twice about this place and pricing, but I am not one of them.

Have used a # of gyms / fitness centers and I decided to give this location a try w/ the promotional 4 day free trial. Bottom Line Up Front: This was a below average gym experience. In regards to equipment, its all there w/ the sole exception being that they dont carry 35 lb plates (but that honestly isnt a big deal). Everything you need to get any workout in is available, and the equipment is new. This being said, the gym is not clean. For a signature club and a normal fee of +40/month my expectation was that there would be alcohol wipes and trash cans in every section of the gym for us to wipe off machines, and that the gym would be readily swept and mopped. This was not the case. The cleaning stations were few and far between and consisted of you pumping foam hand sanitizer onto a paper towel to wipe off equipment. The only cleaning I ever saw being done by an employee was with a vacuum... which cant do very much for sweat or equipment. Every single one of the four days I went in the mats were dirty, the floors were a mess, benches were apparently not wiped, and cardio machines were covered in dirt/salt.If the expectation for signature club members is that they are not responsible for cleaning and also not responsible for bringing in gym shoes (the gym did not care about us wearing outside shoes), then a top priority for management needs to be employee maintenance of the gym and this was not happening. You can have the nicest equipment in the world, but if your gym is not clean then it is not good, especially if it is being marketed as a top of the line establishment where customers are paying more than they would at other locations.

I joined LA Fitness in Ann Arbor through online membership. When I went there and showed my confirmation, they just gave me my membership card. I requested for orientation and tour of the new facility but the guy told me just to walk around even though there were sales rep who were not busy just chatting by themselves. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE ( Staff cant even say hi nor smile at guests). Theyre only interested in getting your money. Also, it has not been opened a month and the swimming pool is not working. huh???

This GYM is not up to date. I really joined because of the track. I love to run and if you go 7am you can get a great workout without waiting on equipment.

Unbelievably Unprofessional. The Operations manager at the new Ann Arbor location couldnt care less about retaining a customer. So did the Sales Rep. They lost a customer in me. Im an Ann Arbor resident, and I love to play racquetball. Since the old Ann Arbor location did not have Racquetball courts, I paid multi-club membership and drove to Plymouth location to play racquetball. Now that the new LA fitness location is ready in Ann Arbor, they say I cant use my membership because it is a Signature club, and I have to repay the initiation fees with an increase in monthly fees. I had discussed this with my sales rep when I joined, and he never mentioned about Signature club or my membership not working there. Orange Theory is a way better option than this.

I give this place 2 stars because of my experience with management. Aside from that its fine but I would still recommend checking out another gym first, if you can. Powerhouse in Ypsilanti is a great gym and the staff is fantastic. I was a member there for 6 years and kind of regret leaving but I needed a change of scenery. My first month at LA fitness was a bit frustrating. The manager didnt care to listen to me when I had a question about equipment, interrupted me, and told me my membership doesnt matter there. A couple weeks later I had signed some friends up for a two week free pass, which comes as part of my membership. When they came in to redeem it, that same manager denied them this pass and told them they can figure out if they like the gym after one workout. They have since joined the new Crunch Fitness in Ann Arbor!

Signature club is amazing. Decent greetings at the front and clean machines and locker rooms.

If you’re looking to join because of the pool, don’t bother - it gets shut down for maintenance several times a month.Hire more cleaning staff - I shouldn’t be finding used bandages in the showers and dirty socks in a muddy pile in the locker rooms as well as garbage in the lockers themselves less than a month after this place opened.

The equipment sometimes work. The weights are sometimes off the floor. The bathrooms are sometimes clean. The kids club is sometimes open. The pot holes in the parking lot are sometimes patched. And the gym sometimes doesnt smell.None of this should come as a surprise, as this tired old gym should have been renovated 20 years ago. Corporate needs to understand that the Ann Arbor market is one of Michigans crown jewels, and they need to give it a proper club.As for this old Ballys, it just needs to close.

Yikes, this particular club is ROUGH. I have probably been to 40 different LA Fitness locations all over the US and its usually about the same wherever you go. I would venture to say this is the worst location in the country. Think of an old, nasty gym circa 1980 and this is probably pretty close to that. The gym is tiny and upstairs is about 15 degrees hotter than downstairs. The building should honestly just be demolished. On the bright side, the gym is so crappy that very few people go here. Very minimal crowds for 530pm on a weeknight..Ill take it.

Hot tub has never worked since joining 3 years ago. Said there are no plans to fix??? Whats a membership with a hot tub that doesnt work? In serious need of upgrading overall. Ladies locker room and showers arent that great. Thinking of letting my membership go...and find another place. Sad :(

Waste of time going to even check it out. The facility is about as impressive as the staff working there. Nick the salesman was very unprofessional and I watched him call multiple people “finessers” for asking to try the gym once before they make any commitments. Couldn’t believe the way he was attacking and accusing people genuinely interested in checking out the gym.

Probably the smallest and oldest LA Fitness Ive been too. Traveling the country..Ive been to a lot of them. The equipment is all very old, the workout rooms are very cramped. I cant comment on the employees, since I didnt really talk to any of them. I liked that they had a steam room, which LA Fitness doesnt usually have, and their locker room/showers were very clean...as old as it was.

If you are just looking for a spacious GYM and and new equipment regardless of anything else well this is your place, if you do not value customer care, politeness and respect this is your Gym. I noticed that the elderly customers were treated like you are number which is terrible. The Manager the one from Dearborn sorry I do not recall his name, he is loud, always miserable and apparently he runs the place with a belt.I was charged $ 45 monthly and 100 for entering the Club in my bank statement Showa $ 180 where does this number comes from???????I am doing myself a big nice favor going to Liberty Club Ann Arbor that is a real Club, and has respect for its customers and a great attitude towards women.LA Fitness is run by someone who does not respect women!!! well so many studios in town and true nice guys who adore women.

Definitely dingy and run down. Much smaller than other gyms. Although they do have a pool, sauna, and a good amount of exercise equipment, the air was quite stagnant and the place was over all dirty and run down. Id get a membership if they were like $20/mo maybe, but with all of the extravagant fees I may as well get a membership at a nicer gym.
