Dr. Downer performed a full replacement of my left hip in September, 2020. The procedure itself was a piece of cake, and Dr. Downer and his team ensured that I was informed every step of the way.The improvement is miraculous. I didnt really quite get how painful everything had become before the surgery. I had expected an *improvement* over how things were, but I was not expecting basically 100% restoration of mobility. Walking is effortless instead of something to dread. I dont lie awake at night just trying to find a comfortable position to rest. I feel like I went back in time to a younger me! Thank you Dr. Downer!

Ive had both hips replaced by 2 different doctors. The 1st was the posterior entrance. The 2nd was the anterior entrance done by Dr. Downer. the difference was night and day. It took 6 months for the 1st hip to feel pretty good. It took 5 weeks for the 2nd!!! I was out walking in less than 2 weeks and was not even needing tylenol! With the 1st surgery, I was in hospital for 3 days. It was mandatory to have someone with me for 10 days once I came home..With the 2nd surgery, I went home the next day and only had to have someone with me for 48 hours. Never thought I would recover so quickly being 73 and overweight. This 2nd recovery has been so much easier. Dr. Downer has got this surgery down pat!!! Highly highly recommend him.. if I could give more stars, I would!

I had hip replacement surgery with Dr. Downer in March, 2018. It is now 4 months later and I am so pleased both with how well the surgery went, but even more with my speedy recovery. After 2 weeks, I gave up the walker and cane and was walking on my own. After 1 month, I was back at the gym easing into my yoga and weight lifting routines. Then I started gardening again - all without any pain or discomfort. As of now, I can pretty much do whatever I want with that hip. This MD is GREAT! He knows what he is doing - and does it so well! Thank you Dr. Downer!

Dr. Philip Downer is WONDERFUL! I was referred to him by a highly competent physical therapist friend of mine. I first met with him in January 2016 when x-rays showed that osteoarthritis, moderate in my right hip and mild in my left, was causing intermittent pain in my leg and groin. I am an active person (not an athlete), for 40 + years doing physical work (landscaping, including heavy rock/stone work) and energetic social dancing. Though I was not needing a replacement at that point, I wanted his professional opinion on what I was doing, should continue doing, or should not do. Dr. Downer gave me his full attention; he took the time to listen and understand my lifestyle and concerns. Over the next nearly 2 years I met with him twice more as my condition progressed; each time I he treated me with full consideration and respect, and patiently and thoroughly answered my many questions. The deterioration of cartilage in my right hip sped up significantly in the past 8 months; though the pain was still manageable, the functionality of the joint had become severely compromised. I decided to have him do a full replacement. I went into surgery on Dec 13, 2017 with complete confidence. Dr. Downer and his team were amazing; the surgery took only 45 minutes; there was no bruising, and my recovery has been progressing faster than I thought possible. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Downer!!!

Dr. Downer was my hip replacement surgeon at the end of March 2018. He is focused and highly skilled. In fact some of the nurses who assist him commented to me how impressed they are with his speed. I was on my feet hours after the surgery and have continued to progress. It has been 3 months. At my 2 week follow up appointment with Dr. Downer I had shed my walker and was doing well with a cane. I have noticed in reviews of surgeons that some people are unhappy with the amount of time spent with them and/or the lack of warmth. Those qualities are not important with me with a surgeon. I regard a surgeon as kind of a body engineer. The quality of skills and experience is my priority as well as recommendations by family doctors and other health care providers. Dr. Downer was at the top of many lists and I can appreciate why.I would like to suggest that Dr. Downer be willing to prescribe physical therapy earlier than 8 weeks post surgery, especially if requested by the patient. I did have a few sessions while in the hospital but feel follow up out patient PT would have supported my recovery. In conclusion, I would gladly recommend Dr. Downer for hip replacement surgery.

I am from Spokane, Washington. I have been through several hip surgeons in Spokane. Severely disappointed. I met with Dr Phil Downer on the 1st of November 2019. After speaking with him he is a grade A doctor. And he is willing to take on the difficulties repairing my severely injured hip. I am really looking forward to being able to walk again. Thank you Dr Phil Downer I will hold up my end of the bargain and will stay healthy to ensure a successful surgery. Last but not least thank you Jesus!

I had the most awesome experience with Dr. Downer and his staff. I have had hip issues for over 9 years and the fear of going in to have them replaced kept me in pain. I felt I couldnt take 2 - 3 months off from work to heal and who has that much vacation time saved up... Believe me, if you cant take the pain anymore go see Dr. Downer. With my dedication to get moving again and his Expertise, I am back to dancing, walking my dog and enjoying life again. I Thank him and his staff for giving me my life back. Yes, It takes time to heal but I was back to work in one week (I have a sit down job which made this easy). I did my exercises as they suggested. I had my daughter over for the first three days to help out but after that, I managed to take care of myself. You can too. Safeway delivers to your door and if you need rides to and from work or wherever, sign up with Metro Access.... I didnt realize it could be so easy to get through this. Feeling the Fear but having the Right Doctor makes a world of difference. It really isnt as bad as you think it is. Face your Fear and go check out the OSS in Wallingford and get comfortable with the people that will help give you your life back....

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I visited Dr. Downer on 3/11/2020. I was referred to him by another orthopedic doctor that I was seeing. I was EXTREMELY disappointed. I brought my x-rays from my other physician, yet additional x-rays were taken. Dr. Downer came into the exam room and spent FIVE MINUTES with me. He did not discuss my MRIs or my x-rays with me. I was told that my torn labrum just happens to people my age and I just need to learn to deal with it. (I am 59 years old and was very active up until the excruciating pain of this injury.) When I asked what I should do going forward, I was told to continue what youre doing which is taking opioids for pain relief. Are you serious? This service will probably end up costing $600 out of pocket. Dr. Downer apparently just doesnt have time for old people and their injuries. VERY FRUSTRATED AND DISAPPOINTED AS I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS FOR 2+ YEARS AND I WAS TOLD TO CONTINUE TAKING OPIOIDS! I guess he would rather create a white collar junkie as I am highly paid, highly educated professional person. If you are old, dont bother.

Dr. Downer is a top notch surgeon. He knows his craft and treats patients with utmost care. See very little of him as his Pas seem to do most of the aftercare. Dont know if this is appropriate to say, but will say anyway. He is a very good looking man which makes the surgery easier to go through!!!😊

I struggled for a year with a previous hip repair, and assumed limping and pain were my new normal. Dr. Downer was confident my health could improve. He skillfully removed the pins that had failed, and replaced my hip, all in one operation. I recovered steadily, with minimal pain, and now, just a few months after, walk pain- and limp-free. I am grateful to Dr. Downer and his entire staff, for giving me a healthier, more active life.

Dr. Downer performed an anterior total hip replacement on me in March 16. He did a fantastic job! Tidy, quick, and it looks beautiful! Dr. Downer loves his work. I did not see much of him, but his P. A.s have been very solicitous of my pain level and any concerns I may have. I would refer Dr. Downer in a heart beat. - A local 70 yr old woman

My Experience with Dr. Downer and his team was fantastic! I am a 56yo male who a year ago was in denial about the condition of my hips. I had learned to live with a lack of mobility, and pain. I tried other interim treatments such as physical therapy, acupuncture, and cortisone injections. While there was some relief, the progression of the pain was going to win. It was hard, but I made the decision to have double hip replacement surgery at the end of January, 2018. The first week was not easy, there is pain, and a helpless feeling, but by the end of the week, I was doing laps around my house with my walker. Within the next week, I was walking with a cane, and at week 3, I returned to work. By week 6 I was walking in the mall (rainy outside) for 1/2 mile with plenty of breaks. I am now at week 10, and I am riding my bike, walking a mile at a time, and wondering why I waited so long! Thanks, I really appreciate how you changed my life!

I had previously seen around 8 surgeons for my hip surgery and told no and to wait till my late 30s. I even explained that the surgeon Dr. Oneill that put me in a cast at 10yo said it must be done at 26. Anyways, I walked in and was brought to do xrays within a couple minutes. Dr. Downer walked in and asked how it originated in which I explained. He then asked how 3 months sounded. 3 months later had surgery, other than a couple minor falls which were my fault my hip is 100% better than before. It took 45 minutes ish for the surgery. I will go no where else besides OSS for orthapedic issues.

Dr. Downer performed hip arthroscopy surgery to repair my torn labrum and bone impingement. From the first appointment with him, his calm demeanor and knowledge made me feel confident in my decision to have surgery and helped ease my anxiety in my post-op recovery. My recovery is going well 4 months post-op! Dr. Downer and his staff were wonderful!

It was a long road with Dr. Downer. I had a car accident and finding a doctor willing to see me was hard, but after hearing about Dr. Downer being a miracle worker for people that have hip issues and are young, I decided I had to have him as my doctor. From day one he had nothing but amazing bedside manner. Though you can tell he is incredibly skilled at what he does, he never makes you feel stupid for asking questions and takes his time to explain anything and everything. If I had to sum up Dr. Downer, I would say he is very honest and will never over promise, so you can trust what he says. How do I know this? We spent three years working through my issues and making sure that it was actually coming from my hip and not somewhere else in my body. THREE YEARS!

Do not waste your time with Dr. Downer. No bedside manner, rude, cocky, doesn’t spend time with clients and also is not good with anything slightly complicated.
