My mother and my father have had at least six separate overnight stays here. They always have good comments about the hospital staff, the medical team, the room, the food and the attention to his care. When we stop by to drop off a newspaper or a book, the staff is very helpful about taking the care package and delivering it to their room quickly. Many thanks to all.

My Mom went here for pancreatic cancer. Her doctor found a small growth on her pancreas many years ago but thought it benign and kept a close watch on it. Years later it grew and the decision was made to remove it. Virginia Mason surgeons removed only the portion of the pancreas with the growth, thereby preserving some of the functions of the pancreas. This happened over 10 years ago and my Mom is still with us. I have the highest respect for the staff at Virginia Mason!

After my double open heart surgery in February 2021 I was given the choice of cardiac rehabilitation at a number of medical centers. Im glad I chose Virginia Mason.Despite the rather chaotic situation caused by Covid-19 and the confusing lay-out of Virginia Mason, I found the staff at the Cardiac Rehabilitation to be caring, dedicated, hard-working.*****The major concern of mine is that, after four weeks, being accosted by a staff person, a middle-aged woman who did not reveal her identity told me I must leave the lounge where I came after the two-hour session was up because I was not waiting for a surgery. The area was empty except for perhaps two other persons, whom she had not interrogated. I was dismayed, suspecting that my race was why she had descended upon me. African-Americans complain vociferously about being carded, unfairly asked to leave areas where they are not supposed to be.I was not playing loud music or talking loudly, playing games, or otherwise disturbing anyone. After an intense two-hour cardiac rehabilitation session, I am very dehydrated, need time to decompress as well as to review the hand-out materials passed out during the session so as to better integrate them.Surely, Medicare is paying the Pritikin-sponsored Virginia Mason cardiac rehabilitation enough so that the hospital can afford to have patients make use of a lounge. I am a patient of Virginia Mason, not someone who is accompanying one.The lounge itself has no signs whatsoever indicating that it is reserved only for patients waiting for a surgical appointment. The next day I asked the access point supervisor at Surgery, Rebecca, about this policy. She contradicted what the (African-American) woman had told me, saying I had every right to be there. The next day, this individual confronted me again, explaining that because of Covid-19, the lounge was closed to all (but surgery patients?). I told her that the supervisor said, in fact, this was not true. The African-American woman said she would check it out further but then disappeared. These incidents made me very uncomfortable. Unconscious (or conscious) harassment? This is question of fairness. It is all too easy (and cowardly) to shirk ones responsibility as a citizen to speak ones truth, even if some people may feel offended by truth and truthfulness. This incident marred my cardiac rehabilitation experience. I do hope that Virginia Mason will take steps to investigate and make sure that racial profiling does not occur.Things will not change unless people have the courage to speak out against slights, micro-aggressions...no matter the awkwardness of being the first to do so.

This review is for the ophthalmology department. Exceptionally rude and unhelpful staff member. I cancelled my surgery due to this persons attitude and unwillingness to help get the appointments they had scheduled incorrectly scheduled correctly. They had pre op appointments listed as post op with incorrect instructions and surgery days that should have been pre op appointments. Instead of just saying there were mistakes made the person was extremely defensive and was upset that I wanted the errors corrected. She insinuated that it was just a typo. Which it wasnt. She also took the scheduled appointments off the calendar prior to my taking her call. I did save the email with all of the incorrect information so if anyone wants to verify my review I can provide it. I hope the call was recorded and will be reviewed.

Stay away from this hospital. Both my wife and I went here for minor services and checks and it seems to be common practice there to trick patients into doing additional exams and lab tests that you dont ask for. They wont tell you that youll get charged additionally for every little thing and what the cost will be. The surprise comes a few weeks later when pretty sizable bills arrive in your mailbox. In addition to that, it is not clear when you read the bills what exactly you are being charged for. I had to call, wait in line and talk to a pretty rude and uncooperative customer service person in order to find out what the things on my bills actually stand for. I definitely learned my lesson and would give them 0 stars if I could.

Be aware of what seeking care at Virginia Mason will do for your finances. I learned that Virginia Mason had sent me to collections for visits in years past that I was not present for or ones that I never even knew about while living in a separate state. Upon calling them they did nothing to rectify the situation even when I offered to pay for these small amounts just to get them removed. While many of the physicians may be outstanding, do not trust what can ruin your finances as a result. Merchant’s Credit is the firm they outsource to. I implore you to google this organization and look at their tactics, many of which are discriminatory in nature and further ask yourself why Virginia Mason partners with them when they claim to be focused on the care and well-being of the patient. There are a lot of options regionally for amazing care in Seattle and western Washington and going forward our family will NOT seek any care at Virginia Mason even if it means traveling out of state. This is not ethical or right in any capacity and feels like that of unreal insanity. To think that at one point several years ago I actually recommended Virginia Mason for my father seeking treatment for cancer but never again. I can no longer say that they follow their mission and seek to improve ones sense of well-being and which prevent illness when they are creating illness on the back-end. Greed exists and it’s sad to see the lengths they are willing to go to for $40.00 that was billed inappropriately.

Oh, and over the course of those seven months I was drug tested without my permission and prescribed anti-psychotics (which I didn’t take, thankfully) because they didn’t actually believe me when I said it felt like things were crawling on my skin. I wonder if this would have happened to me if I were white.I finally went to UW and it only took two trips to get an answer. I now owe Virginia Mason thousands of dollars due to systemic incompetence ranging across different departments and experience levels.

Her bedside man or was exceptional. She surpassed expectations like a pro. In all times she was both professional and friendly. Her skills were only surpassed by her thoughtfulness and attention to detail. While all of my care staff, Gabe, Georgette, holly and the rest were awesome I especially want to mention Brooke. She not only paid attention to details, she went the extra mile and offered to brain my hair. My wife usually braids it every day but with the covid restrictions she wasn’t allowed in the hospital. In closing I want to say I had so many health care workers allending to my that frankly, with the pain meds I am shocked that I was able to remember the names I did. Worst hospital staff Ive ever experienced, just to get a covid test.First, U Village schedules me for 8am Drive-Thru test only after a video call that they wouldnt tell me how much it costs for the equated visitation price because scheduling isnt the same department as billing, so I had to just accept a blank check - not the biggest deal. Im told I MUST drive there for this. I show up there on time, drive-thru is closed. I then call and am told to go to the wrong place, nobody there. I go to the main entrance to get the right info and the front desk tells me to go to the same wrong place through inside the building, still nobody there. I then go back again after 30min of total wandering and misinformation until one person that actually knows anything tells me where to go. Truly sad.2 days later (as I was told results would be 2 days max), I just called 30min before the facility closes and nobody picks up. I call back and the operators begin automatically forwarding me to the same number which doesnt answer (why else would I call back?). I repeatedly attempt calls for the same result, forwarded to an infinitely ringing line, and Im instantly hung up on multiple times by the operators. I finally call back with *67 and eventually they pick up, then multiple people try to forward me to the same empty facility after I specifically told them not to. One even forwarded me to an entirely different location. FINALLY I get a good operator (stared with a J, maybe Jeanne) that attempts the facility first while Im on hold and tells me they should be in office because its 30min before close, but is unable to offer any information as to why nobody is picking up. Laurie was the absolute worst - rude, condescending, and entirely unhelpful. Cant believe how many other times Im reading her name in these reviews and she still has a job.Despicable operators and a complete lack of distribution of knowledge to 95% of staff. I get its a big hospital but this was all in the same smaller building. Just so pathetic for someone trying to do the simplest possible tasks. 0/10, would give negative stars if possible. Never go here unless your life depends on it, and even then, good luck living.

I am from Hawaii and I just had my wife go through the Medical Center. We had a scheduled appointment on a Tuesday with a pre-arranged primary care doctor. We had brought extensive records and imaging from doctors in Hawaii. Many tests were set up in a very short period of time. Very impressive how the various departments worked together in scheduling. We have to give them an A+ in this category. However, in getting any of the records and imaging to other departments did not happen. For some reason a lack of follow through. I still give them five stars their ability to thoroughly diagnose the problem and come up with a reasonable conclusion and plan. Cannot say enough good things about how we were treated and the positive attitude and smiles everyone had.. we would definitely return if need be.The cafeteria is very good and affordable. However, The Inn at Virginia Mason is something else. The building was constructed in 1920. The rooms are nice and clean and housekeeping is good. However, we were not impressed with their medical rate. In fact, you could not make a reservation on line. When we called we were told $119 per night. Upon arriving the check in person coukd not find the medical rate. I asked the manager several days later what it was and he said $109;per night and that he would adjust the bill. Upon check out there was only bone night at the $109. I asked him to adjust the other nights and he refused. He went on to say the rate was seasonal and if you came in the summer months rooms are $50 night cheaper. In other words, if you can plan your sickness around the seasonal rates then you are better off. This rate structure sure does not coincide with the excellent service and staff you get at the Medical Center. You would think there would be a flat rate no matter what time of year. I would venture to guess that the majority of guests, if not all; are there for medical reasons.

I felt so safe with the three procedures that he did. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so careful and gracious and funny. Much love and many blessings to you all. You should be very proud. And I missed you, Karina. You are the bees knees. I pray that your husband recovers soon. God bless you all.

I think this is a wonderful hospital with professional & caring staff. I think my care-provider, Dr.Leonard from internal medicine, is absolutely the best. She is professional, knowledgeable, personable and very caring. I will continue to go to this hospital and I highly recommend my doctor and the hospital.

I came in with severe abdominal pain. I was admitted and well taken care of. The staff is so helpful and friendly, especially nurse Danae and pct Jade on floor 16. If I ever get sick enough to be hospitalized again, I will most definitely return here.

Dr Ross and his team saved my life 5 yrs ago and when I began to have the symptoms again I flew from CA and they took care of me right away. I do not trust any other place to take care of me, spend the $$ to fly and have a few days in town. I will be back on 4 weeks for my follow up. Very professional staff, punctual, kind and going extra miles for the pt.They have the Inn next to them or very old hotel cross the street with discounts or you can go to bigger five star hotels in walking distance. CA hospitals should learn from VMH! Thank you Dr Ross and Dr Law , team!

Good service, alright food. Nurses need to work on not misgendering patients especially to their faces, which put me in a horrible mood as I was being discharged. She corrected herself but the hurt was still there.

Healthcare in this country is utterly broken. I went in for a morning of outpatient testing. I was told to expect a total bill of about $2000. Although my tests went faster than expected, involved no special equipment or unforeseen addition, the final bill was approximately $6000.

This place is amazing. The doctors actually care, provide excellent and vital services. Virginia Mason Medical Center also has charity account services to help those who need care, but are unable to pay some or all of their bills. This hospital has saved my life, in every possible way a person can be, and I will always be grateful to them for what they have done for my family and I.Thank you Virginia Mason, and Dr. Camille Johnson and her assistant Jo up on the 8th Floor of Buck Pavillion!

There customer service department is a joke and they have stated to me several times that advocacy for yourself is harrassment. If you try and speak up for yourself they will try and knock you back down. I was on the verge of suicide cause of the pain I was in and still am in pain and they offered no help for that mentally. Luckily I made it threw the worst of it but that was only after suffering and fight threw them to get what I needed. The list goes on with them it take a hour of writing just to explain the mental and physical headacheh they put you threw. The only reason they getting 2 stars is cause of there spine clinic and nutritional providers.

Dr. On is an amazing ophthalmologist at Virginia Mason. He performed my eye enucleation and I couldnt be happier. Its now been 2 1/2 years since my eye enucleation and it has been wonderful. Dr. On is an amazing surgeon. I called his personal cell phone at night after my surgery with questions and he immediately answered and helped put my mind at ease. He was able to save the muscles around my eye socket and my artificial eye moves just like my real eye. I have people ask if I can see out of it!! I cant recommend him and the hospital enough.

I’ve been going to Virginia Mason for my primary care appointments since I moved to Seattle 19 months ago. Processes are nonsensical requiring multiple checkins, and staff at the internal medicine desk have always been less than helpful, and many times very rude. Today’s experience takes the cake though, where it took 25 minutes to book my follow-up appointment. To clarify, that’s 25 minutes after reaching the front of the line, the woman at the desk had no clue how to use the computer. Virginia Mason needs to re-evaluate their training and possibly hiring/screening process for the position. I don’t have all day to spend at the hospital for a routine checkup.

I suffered stomach pain and went to Virginia Mason ER. I have not seen a single doctor during the entire visit. Only a couple nurses, physician assistant showed up. All they did was running a couple of blood test, and urine test, and basically told me that I am not going to die. They did not run ultra sound, CT or MRI at all. They told me that they cannot figure out what was wrong with me, and prescribed me some antibiotics and discharged me. I went to another urgent care for my stomach pain a few days later, and the doctor told me that the antibiotics was unnecessary to take. So I called VM hospital and asked for advice, and they responded with NO confidence with their diagnosis and told me that I should follow the doctor s advice from urgent care. I was very disappointed with my experience and wish I could visit somewhere else. BTW, I called the VM ask for the customer complaint number, that number was a joke! It was a voice box and has no representatives at all!

My husband was admitted friday 4/26 for dialysis prep. We knew we had to stay and get dialysis started. Mon 4/29 we were told by the social worker Jonathan that we had to have a dialysis place set up before going home. On Thursday may 2 he said he found a place but it was a 3 hour drive to Port Townsend. They had a wrong name that they were looking for. We live in Tacoma. Now its mon 5/6 and they still dont have a place. He is stuck here and not happy.

Was sent here from the VA and I have say that this place is actually worse by far. The GI clinic is unable to coordinate between hospitals (the VA and itself), the portal is not user friendly and wont forward to email platforms that are able to operate on Android or IOS. The liaison software is super simple to write and why they havent hired somebody to do it thus far is completely unprofessional. In my humble opinion and this is just coming from a veteran looking for care in a timely manner so I dont die, please choose another facility if you value your life and expect consistent quality care. The people working at this location do not take pride in their work so you will have to deal with pain and and BS the whole time. Im sad and disappointed that I chose to get treatment at this facility over the VA. HOPE THE DIRECTOR GETS TO SEE THIS AND TAKES APPROPRIATE ACTION, CHANCES ARE IT JUST WONT HAPPEN IN THIS PLACE WILL STAY THE SAME SO JUST AVOID IT.Arrived for a procedure and was pushed back at least two hours so my ride couldnt stay and now I run the risk of dying because they couldnt perform their dutys properly.

Left hand does not know what right hand is doing. Worst place with a-holes who do not give a rats ass about anyone but themselves. You would get better service at the dmv and we all know how they suck. Any other hospital would be better. I believe in accountability for your actions and they do not get this concept (just nothing but excuses).
