The people here a wonderful. I have been to several vets in the area and none of them come close. They were very friendly and made sure I understood everything that is going on with my dog. The vet seemed to really care about my dog and not about how much money they could make from him. I would totally recommend this place to anyone.

This is not a bad clinic, however I would not recommend it to family or friends. The doctor is very knowledgeable, but knows it. He speaks to the customers in a very condescending tone, especially if you ask questions. It seems as though he has very little patience when it comes to explaining anything about your pet or their treatment plan.Additionally, keep a close eye on your invoice. You will ask for something done, and yet you will be charged for 3 additional treatments that were not discussed. If you dont pay attention, you will pay for additional services that you did not authorize or discuss.I brought my dog in for his 3 annual vaccines, which I discussed with the vet and told him I only wanted those 3. When I received my invoice, the vet had given my dog 2 additional shots that I was not aware of and charged me for it. I obviously dont believe it was malicious, however I need to know what is being given to my pet.Overall, your animal will get the care he/she needs at this clinic. You will most likely pay more, due to extra services and treatments being done without your knowledge. The doctor will also try to sell you on every single treatment in the book. It is my opinion that he is a SALESMAN first, and a doctor second.Do what you will with this information.

I have taken my pets to Friars Road Hospital for over 20 years. Dr. Peterson is knowledgeable and practical. I have been allowed to make my own decisions after being fully informed and never guilt-tripped when I was unable to do everything recommended due to limited finances. My pets have enjoyed long, active, pain-free lives for which I am sincerely grateful.

Dr. Peterson at Friars Road Vet is awesome! The staff is extremely helpful and will answer any questions you have about your pet. I have been taking my Chihuahua there for couple years now and have had a great experience. Their prices are the best Ive seen in San Diego, make sure you go to their website and print the coupons out for the Vaccines (only $9.90 each)

When we moved to San Diego in 2015 I tried several vets before I found FRPH. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. P and the amazing front desk staff. We have two dogs and a cat that we brought here. One of my dogs developed very severe allergies when we moved and the staff here worked closely with us to understand what was happening and get it under control. When we experienced severe flare-ups they were always able to get us in last minute to provide relief as soon as possible. On top of that, my dog does not do well with other dogs and they were very accommodating to help ensure there was always a spare room available as soon as we arrived so we didnt have any scenes to manage in the waiting room.In the 2 1/2 years we used this vet we had vaccinations, check-ups and a surgery. They were great with all our animals and I always knew that my babies were in good hands. The dogs were always so excited when they realized where they were going and were thrilled to see the staff which is always my biggest indicator that we have found a vet that is great with our animals.

Took my dog there about 2 months ago, with a red eye and discharge. The vet was very rude and had no patience at all with my dog who was scared and therefore acting defensive. It took him about 3 seconds to say it was conjunctivitis, gave him eyedrops, and til now he does not look better. Now both his eyes are the same and it’s making me very concerned. The other staff was amazing and friendly, they called to follow up and my dog’s eye looked better so I told them that, however it didn’t last long, as I said now both of his eyes are red and with mucus. I will not be taking him back there, ever.

Dr. Brian Peterson is a great Veterinarian. He is the only Dr. Who has been able to treat my dogs allergies. Before we started seeing him, my dog was getting so many ear infections and other illnesses related to his allergies. He was the only one who tested him to see what he was allergict to. The office staff is very friendly and they know clients by heart. When you come here, they treat you as family. Theyve given my doggy the care that he deserves !

We have been taking our dogs and cats to Friars Road Pet Hospital since 2003. The care our pets receive is outstanding. Friars Road Pet Hospital has brought them through urinary infections, allergic reactions, Cushings disease, cancer, colitis, infections. This year we lost 2 pets due to old age (23-year old cat, 18-year old dog) and 1 pet due to a 2nd bout with cancer (14-year old dog). We appreciated it very much when we were told honestly that there was nothing else that could be done and it was time. We firmly believe that the reason our pets lived so long was due to the medical expertise they received at Friars. We still have 3 pets, and we will continue to take them to Friars because we trust their integrity, their love for animals, and the excellent care that we know our pets will receive there.

While Dr. Petersen and his staff are nice and very knowledgeable, they extremely over charge for medication. For example, I took my dog there when he was sick and for the dewormer Drontal Plus, I was charged 52.31 for 1 pill. I looked up this medication on 1(800) Pet-Meds and discovered the exact same medicine for $15.99. I then called Friars Road Animal Hospital and asked about the disparity. I was told that they order directly from the manufactures, so they guarantee that its the name brand medicine. I then proceeded to call 1(800)Pet-Meds and they assured me that it was the name brand medicine, and also guaranteed it.In addition, ABC Vets online pharmacy has 5 pills of Drontal Plus for $87.95... Which is far closer to the Pet Meds price than it is to the exorbitant price of Friars Road Pet Hospital.I will continue to go to Friars Road Pet Hospital for Check-ups and the like, but I will refuse to purchase medication from them again at such an extreme mark-up even compared to other local Vets.
