Advanced Energy is an independent non-profit corporation founded in 1980 by the North Carolina Utilities Commission to investigate new technologies related to energy and its efficiency. The Board of Directors is appointed by the governor and the member utility companies. They have several areas that they focus on within the energy sector and are nationally known. Their goal is to get the maximum benefit from every energy dollar spent.I am most familiar with the applied building science area and their whole house approach to residential construction. I have been very fortunate to take training from Advanced Energy a number of times over the years. An interesting fact is that many years ago, Advanced Energy started working with Habitat for Humanity to help the organization make the houses they build with mostly volunteers as energy efficient as possible so that the owners would have low energy bills. If you have the opportunity to train with Advanced Energy, jump on it.
