A complete joke of a hospital and staff! I went there on September 6 hardly being able to walk. Felt like nobody was listening to what was going on with me and that I knew something was wrong. Went back on September 7 with an extreme headache, nausea and dizziness and by this time I knew something was really wrong. Again nobody was listening to me and my paperwork says patient came back with a headache. This is more than a headache! I knew that! I know my body! Who would go pay for an emergency room for an average headache? On September 8 I had my daughter run me up to Mayo Hospital with 103.7 fever feeling like I was dying. Thank God I did because I was diagnosed fairly quickly with meningitis. The doctor told me so many times how lucky I was that I found my way to a hospital and that I was very sick! Not once but twice your hospital sent me home with meningitis! I was admitted quickly to Mayo hospital and will never go to another hospital again other than mayo. Several days later in the hospital I tested positive for the west Nile virus so I had west Nile induced meningitis that you sent me home with! TWICE !!!!!!! Your staff needs to learn to listen to the patient as we know what we are feeling, we know our bodies and we know if something is seriously wrong! Your staff did not have the common decency to do that for me and made me feel like an idiot for feeling the way that I felt. I would never recommend anybody going to the hospital for any reason as this is not my first poor experience with myself or family but it is definitely my last! Run the other direction and drive a few minutes up the road to Mayo they were incredible

This is the former Paradise Valley Hospital. In addition there are a number of multistory medical and professional buildings on the campus and on both sides of Bell Road, both the north and south side. There are a total of 3 laboratories for blood testing, urine tests, drug testing for employment and for compliance with pain management programs, etc. It wasnt originally designed to handle a large number of patients, as evidenced by the amount of parking spaces that are occupied. Look for the number of the address on the exterior of building, find parking and then enter and youll find a physician/provider locator board just inside the motorized entrance doors. There are plenty of elevators and great wheelchair access. Pharmacies are located nearby and if your needing Emergency Room care, follow the EMERGENCY ROOM signs located on Bell Rd and park close as you can. Most people were not wearing a mask, however I was just in case. I hope this information was helpful. If the area is extra busy, pull into an area and rest for a moment, get your mind in gear and attempt to locate the office your looking for.

I recently had my knee surgery here with Dr. Bert. So far during recovery everything seems to be going good. Dr Berts staff has answered all my questions and concerns. Not many doctors would of touched my knee but he did not flinch when I first met him. Would definitely recommend for anyone with severe knee damage.I woke up from surgery in a lot of pain. Livv was there and really did all she could to take care of me. She really did an amazing job and I was happy to have her there for my recoveryBefore surgery Lea Ann and Adrianna (I think was her name, she’s from Albania) took care of me and got me prepped for surgery. They were bubbly and fun and definitely helped me keep my mind off the surgery. It was very welcoming.I talked to Susan a few times on the phone. She answered a lot of my questions and concerns. Even made sure to keep my girlfriend in the loop with my prescriptions with several follow up calls. Definitely a behind the scenes hero. We sincerely appreciate her help

My husband had Spinal Fusion surgery on Oct 1st and stayed overnight. We had a great experience. Every single person we interacted with was super nice. The 4th floor orthopedic nurses were caring and compassionate. Big thanks to Emi and Suzy. You ladies are awesome and made this really hard time better. The dietary/cafeteria team was great too, really thoughtful. My husband was unhappy with his eggs and they sent up a goodie box to make up for it. I left the hospital at 8pm and Josh from security walked me to my car to make sure I left safely. This is not some super fancy hospital but the people make all the difference.

Caring, competent medical staff. Nurse Tom and Nurse Keith in the ER were knowledgeable, friendly and comforting. On the ward the nurses were excellent, each one introducing themselves and explaining any tests that needed to be performed. The hospital went out of their way to assist with payment options, as I did not have insurance.

If youre having a procedure done or youre you have a family member at the end of life or an accident involving a child both parents should have the right to be there these hospitals act like theyre doing us a favor when we need to remember we are the ones paying them through our insurance and our copays. So if youre going in for a surgery call around other hospitals are allowing more support people this one is ridiculous. We need to stand up and say no more ridiculous actions. If we stop supplying them with our medical needs then maybe they will start listening.

I went in to visit him at 7pm, but still in Emergency room...My mother said they were waiting for someone to prep the room still. So this morning I called up the main hospital and asked for his room number, they said to contact the Emergency dept! I called them, and still no room. My mom, disgusted left this fine/caring establishment. Wow, redefined my beliefs on our medical heroes. Ya, avoid.

Thank you so much Abrazo ED for the amazing care for my son. From the time we arrived we were brought back quickly by Danette who was very kind to him. Dr. Kang came in promptly to examine him as well as to give us results. He was very thorough and professional. Amy our nurse was extremely caring and made him feel very comfortable with everything she did. Xray came in to do his chest X-ray with lightening speed. The visit was quick and efficient with us leaving with the results and medications needed to get him on the road to feeling better. Thank you so much! I appreciated not having to spend hours waiting to be seen and getting results while he was feeling so miserable. Thank you to everyone who was involved in his care!

The lady working the front checking people in tonight, pink shirt, dreads, was a total rude person to every single person checking in or asking questions. She gave nothing but attitude and when asked what her name was she said she didn’t have to tell me and threw a fit when I asked for a manager and told me to leave. All while the rest of the about 10 patients waiting even stood up and agreed she was so rude. I will definitely be making a more formal complaint to the HR department as well because the Er manager did not make it seem like it was a big deal either. I am so disgusted and will never ever return to this campus. Go far away, as long as they keep rude employees employed you’ll never get the true compassionate care you should receive as a patient. It disgusts me that sick patients deserve to be disrespected by an entitled angry health care worker. If it weren’t for HIPAA I would’ve recorded the behavior. I know there are cameras in there and I hope someone higher above replays her uncalled and irresponsible actions.

Avoid this place at all costs. Go straight to Mayo Clinic if you want good care! This place will discriminate against you if you’re not vaccinated. My dad just passed away here & the drs didn’t even offer any condolences. Instead they urged us to disconnect him & told us to “get vaxxed in his memory.” Then it took them a week to sign his death certificate. To this day we don’t know what the infection he contracted was, probably hospital-contracted. They couldn’t even get an accurate time of death Bc the heart monitor was “acting up.” There were nurses joking about covid on the elevator. Respiratory therapist rushing nurses to disconnect my dad. A nurse telling me I could still get covid if I went in his room, while she wasn’t wearing HER mask correctly and coughing in the ICU. They told us my dad was stable till 2 days before his passing then the Dr. said every single nurse made a mistake. Wow pretty grave mistake. Nurses saying “covid was kicking his butt” or that we were calling too often. These Drs are far from human and just look at you as a statistic. Heartless staff.

So heres my experience with this place.I was scheduled for a hernia surgery on December 2nd. Ive had two prior surgeries here before. So in the pre-op waiting room with the nurses was great they were professional made me feel comfortable. The nurses called security to take my valuables before my operation so security comes takes my wallet my Bluetooth headset puts it in a bag makes note of everything in the bag and has me signed for it and takes it away and says shes putting it in a safe. Before I get wheeled back into the surgery room usually they sedate you a little bit where youre really sleepy and drowsy on the way to the operating room. That didnt happen this time The lady that willed me back there was bumping into the walls and crashing into things and was making me very nervous. So we get into the surgery room and see pushes me next to the surgery table and was fighting with the computers and wires and hoses and baking stuff around this made me extremely nervous I was not comfortable with this at all!!! Thank God they started to sedate me and I was out. Woke up in the recovery room with a nurse I dont remember much I was really drowsy security came in with my bag with my wallet and I signed for something and they put my stuff in my bag with my clothes and shoes and wilt me out to my wife that was waiting in the pickup area. When we got home I went to bed my wife went through my wallet and my bags to make sure everything was there The only thing was missing was my Bluetooth headset. So the next day someone from the hospital called to see how I was doing I let her know about the Bluetooth headphones and she said she would speak to security and find out what was going on. I never heard back from security or the nurse.so I went back to the hospital today on the 15th of December to talk to security to find out if they found my Bluetooth. I talked to the security lady at the front desk and told her the situation I believe she remembered me and remember the situation what happened with my Bluetooth headset but she acted like it was no big deal.I had to ask her to go look in the lost and found and see if anybody found my Bluetooth headphones. The security there took possession of my wallet Bluetooth headphones and they lost it and they acted like it was no big deal no phone call no nothing from them. I would have to sadly say dont trust the security there they dont seem to care about your property. The thousands and thousands of dollars my insurance paid that hospital to do surgery on me they couldnt even call me back or even offer to replace the headphones pretty sad.

Not a great experience at Abrazo Scottsdale Campus. Their accounting department has no idea what they are doing. I had surgery on May 15th. Made a deposit, and set up automatic payments. Three months later I get a letter saying I am going to collections. I called to make a payment of $256, and they double charged for 513. The individual who assisted me said I could get reimbursed in 30-45 days or pay until November, which is completely unacceptable. If you are responsible for over charging, you are responsible to getting money reimbursed in a quick manner, absolutely horrible service. Due to this egregious error, I asked to be removed from automatic payment, since it hadnt been working anyway, and I was double charged. The individual assured me that my debt card information was removed, and that I would need to call back. The next day, 9/09, I was charged again. With my household living off one income, I now have 20 dollars to my name since having to pay 650 dollars in 2 days. I called, and the individual who spoke to me said that I couldnt be helped, because I was already in collections. I asked to speak to a manager, and was on hold for 26 minutes. I hung up, called again, and another member shared that I was not in collections, and had been over charged. Now, I am waiting for confirmation that my information is truly removed from the system. Their portal does not offer an option to see what card they have on file, which is also sketchy. Overall, no one at the customer service or accounting department knows what they are doing. Dealing with surgery then all the multiple avenues one must take to deal with insurance, in network, out of network, bills for multiple vendors, and an added pandemic, this type of additional financial nightmare is unnecessary. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone.

I am writing for a friend who is a veteran and he was sick recently with the flu or something with a sore throat and diarrhea, coughing, runny nose, and exhaustion. He had no fever though. So I scheduled a Covid test at CVS for him but we had to wait 3 days for the results and on the night of day 2 he felt bad enough to have to go to Abrazo and they did a few Covid tests and they all came out negative. So they sent him home with a ZPACK of all things. I was unaware of this and found out just last night after he has taken all but one. First off, the ZPACK is extremely dangerous for anyone with even the slightest heart issue. It caused a very healthy close family friend that was in her 40s to have a massive heart attack and almost die. My veteran friend was recently in the VA Hospital with chest pains and also he was given 6 rounds of antibiotics last year because he had sepsis from a mishap after a colonoscopy at the VA and that mishap was because he was initially given a bad type of anesthesia that he had a reaction to which led to a catheter which then led to an infection and then Abrazo Hospital gave him the wrong antibiotic & it wasnt strong enough so after that he wasnt responding to the next 5 antibiotic prescriptions given by 3 different hospitals all back to back. Each time this Vietnam Veteran goes to the VA Hospital and Abrazo, he ends up worse. And each time he heals, they tell him its necessary to do another test which they end up getting wrong which puts him at yet another huge risk of dying. These hospitals are going to kill him if he keeps going along with their health checkups and tests. We are living in a time where it is not in our best interest to trust medical professionals because their final decisions are too often dependent on what the insurance companies will approve and what big pharma wants them to use. At the end of the day, as long as making money trumps the well being of our communities, we can count on not getting safe sound care at all facilities and hospitals and therefore we should always avoid those places as much as possible and dont say this is the result of we the people living beyond our means or the fault of immigrants because thats illogical programming and ignorance.

Most of the staff here were great. But nurse Mindi scares me. I told her no to what she claimed to be Zofran cause I wasn’t experiencing nausea whatsoever, I came in for bleeding and chest and shoulder pain, and she left it until the IV person was gone then she came in an injected me without my consent. After she left I started getting a warm and tingling feeling over me, I became dizzy, ears started ringing, and I wasn’t able to breathe, I started blacking out. I coded and no one came my oxygen was 74% my heart rate just started rapidly dropping from 50 down to 20 before jumping to 130 and becoming an arrhythmia it was all over the place I was very scared. I had an ECG that clearly showed I was experiencing PCVs which is a type of Arrhythmia and I called for help and no one came. My alarms we’re screaming and no one came, I called the nurses station twice and they said someone would come and no one did. Someone coded right after so I find it coincidental. I worry that it wasn’t zofran and that I was kept from help on purpose that Mindi never showed up on purpose and that she tried to kill me. A doctor came and told me I had a UTI and I told them about my ECG and he seemed concerned but never came back. Mindi came in with a medication it was yellow I’ve never had anything injected for a UTI and she was about to inject it into my IV but I told her I didn’t want it cause of what happened before and she’s like “that’s why I put lidocaine in this” why would you put a local anesthesia in something idk but anyway, she injected it into my bottom? Why would you give an injection that was supposed to be intravenous, intramuscularly? What I think nurse Mindi doesn’t expect is that I was a critical care tech so I’m very versed in vitals, medications, etc. and I suspect malpractice and I think an investigation is needed cause I literally coded and could’ve died and no one came to help me

They literally do not know what they are doing. The wonderful lady at the ER front desk was actually trying to help- and she calmed me down quite a bit. But everyone else there either doesn’t know or doesn’t care what’s going on with their patient/my husband. He had emergency gallbladder surgery yesterday morning. His surgeon called me immediately after and told me my husband can come home that evening as long as he’s not in too much pain. He said everything went well and there were no complications. About an hour later a nurse calls and tells me she transporting my husband to a room and I should bring his overnight things— I asked her “is he in a lot of pain?” She said no, I said the surgeon told me he can come home if he’s ok with his pain. She said she didn’t know anything about that but she would “pass it on” I assumed to the nurses. A few hours later my husband asked me to bring his stuff. I was confused but assumed he was hurting a lot and just didn’t want to tell me. Him and I were both exhausted being up all night in the ER and him having surgery and all. Communication wasn’t at its best but I told him I’d bring his stuff later in the evening. When I arrived at around 7:00pm. I left his bags with the front desk people. They asked me what it was and I told them the basics. I waited to hear from my husband bcuz I wanted to see if he wanted me to get him food. His cell phone was dead. I called his room - he was upset. I asked him about his pain and he said he didn’t have any. I got upset at that point and called the nurses... this is a long story. Bottom line is the surgeon told me and my husband that he could go home if he was ok with his pain. The nurses say he has to stay for observation. No one can explain what changed. No one can contact the surgeon. No one can call me back. No one can plug in his phone for him or his bed that is unplugged and stuck in one position. They tell him he has to be on 3 iv antibiotics. That’s suddenly the reason he needs to stay—— The nurses didn’t tell me that at 7:30pm. Blah blah blah now it’s nearly 10:00 am the next day. Everyone told me the surgeon would be in go see my husband early this morning around 5 or 6 am I was assured. Still hasn’t showed up. They refuse to give me the surgeons contact information. No one can explain why the high antibiotics if there were no complications. No one can explain why he told me my husband could come home but somehow also ordered iV antibiotics. Or why he hasn’t come around yet or why no nurses called me at all last night or this morning even tho I spoke with charge nurse and floor supervisor. They seriously scare me and I can’t believe we the public tolerate this from our healthcare providers. I don’t even know if this made sense I’m so tired and emotionally spent. Sorry I wrote so much and still left out the details about them searching my husbands bags WITHOUT WARNING ME or asking my husband. That’s a pretty weird policy in my opinion. Blah blah blah .... I guess I get to call again since they told me 30 minutes ago they’d call me back if the phones worked. Oh yeah the phones are now “not working”. It’s insane.

My child was taken to the ER for severe stomach pain and they diagnosed her with a UTI after us being there for almost 5 hours and taking urine, blood, and a CT scan. None of it added up because she didn’t have any classic UTI symptoms and when our pediatrician finally got all the records from the hospital, it was discovered my child never had a UTI, but the CT scans showed other issues which I won’t disclose on here. Bottom line is the ER misdiagnosed my child, and when I questioned the nurse at the time she said it was a UTI, I said my daughter doesn’t have any of the classic UTI symptoms and her response was our job is to make sure surgery isn’t needed and to follow up with our pediatrician. Had the nurse not immediately dismissed my questions, and maybe went back to talk to the doctor or the radiologist, they would’ve discovered that the radiologist screwed up. I’ve called the hospital to get answers of how they diagnosed my child with a UTI when the reports show she never had one, and they are not calling me back. Shameful.

If I could give this place negative stars I would. Completely unprofessional and outright liars when it comes to billing. I went for a non life threatening issue however it was serious and could have become life threatening if untreated. I didn’t have health insurance at the time and no other options besides emergency department. So they ended up charging me almost $1200 to write a prescription for an antibiotic. Mind you 850 of that was the doctors fee for clicking the button to sign off on the prescription. I NEVER SAW A DOCTOR. Only a nurse. Never even went into a treatment room. $1200 for that is completely unreasonable and I was told at the time of service it would be 250.

I went to a Banner urgent care on 9/29 with a sinus infection and since I told them I was having tightness in my chest and shortness of breath, they demanded that I go to the nearest hospital by ambulance. I declined and drove myself to Abrazo Scottsdale because it was a few blocks away and thats where they recommended I go.I explained this to the people at the front desk and sat down in the waiting room. I could overhear the triage nurse swearing because that specific urgent care had sent them numerous patients that day for minor things. Its not the end of the world, but someone should remind the triage staff that patients nearby can hear them talking. I immediately felt guilty for even being there. To her credit, the nurse did apologize when I pointed this out.I was taken to a bed in the ED quickly and seen quickly. The nurses were all professional and courteous. The nursing student who was going to do my IV seemed nervous and was having trouble finding my vein so I asked that the RN take over. Again, no big deal. They did diagnostic tests and a chest x-ray to make sure my heart was ok (which we all suspected it was, but they needed to do their due diligence). Everything was done quickly and results were returned pretty fast.My only complaint, and this is something you people need to take seriously, is that the PA lied to me at the end of my visit. The urgent care refused to treat me because of my chest pain and sent me to the ER, so I was not able to get any prescriptions for my sinus infection, which had persisted for two weeks. I asked the PA if he would write me a prescription for a mild narcotic cough syrup to take before bed because of the cough, pain, and burning in my chest. He looked me in the eye and asked me rather abruptly, How long have you lived in Arizona? I replied 10 years. He then said Well I guess you should know that Governor Ducey changed the prescribing guidelines 2 years ago. Emergency departments are not allowed to send patients home with narcotics anymore. I was stunned and immediately felt judged. I am not a drug addict. Im a 35 year old male who doesnt smoke, drink, or abuse drugs. I contacted the state to ask if this was true and the person I spoke with was stunned a doctor would say that. They said they have measures in place to reduce narcotic prescribing, but that in no way whatsoever do they prohibit hospitals from doing it. In the age of information, your PA should know better than to lie to a patient. I asked for cheratussin, not heroin, but thats how he made me feel.I didnt go to medical school, so if he didnt feel comfortable using that avenue to treat me, fine. Say that. I can abide by that. Hes the expert. But dont lie. That undermines the trust Im supposed to have that these people have my best interest in mind and discourages me from wanting to seek care here again.

If I could give zero stars I would. My mother in law went to the emergency room on Thursday at 4 pm at the direction of her doctor as her recent blood work said she was in kidney failure. My wife left the hospital at 8 pm and she was still not in a room. She was not put in a room until 9 am Friday morning. I went to visit at 2:45 pm Friday afternoon and she had been waiting over 20 minutes for a nurse to take her to the bathroom and move her bowels. Not until I went to the nurses station did she get assistance. I returned to the hospital at 7 pm with my wife and again my mother in law pressed the call button to use the bathroom and was not assisted until we went to the nurses station. This was at least 12 minutes after she pressed her call button. We visited again on Saturday around 1 pm. My mother in law told us she might be released today which we found unusual based on the state of her kidneys. We asked her nurse if we could speak with her doctor. After about a half hour she brought in her computer with all the lab results and advised us the numbers were still not good and she would be in the hospital until Monday. About a half hour later my mother in law had to use the rest room again and rang the call button. After 15 minutes my wife took her to the rest room herself where she found dried feces on her buttocks. After 25 minutes still no one had come to take her to the rest room. We then left the hospital just before 2 pm and by 3 pm my mother in law was calling us telling us she was being released. Remember, an hour and a half earlier we were told by her nurse she would be there until Monday. We called and spoke with her nurse who said she would have her doctor call us. Her doctor called us and said my mother in law did not want to stay there and her lab numbers had improved enough for her to go home but he would definitely authorize one more night if we could talk my mother in law into staying. Needless to say that was never going to happen. The doctor told me the nurse should have never told us that she would be in the hospital until Monday and he would talk to the charge nurse about that. In my 53 years I have never seen such poor and inept care at a healthcare facility. We only took my mother in law there because it is the closest hospital to our house. We will never go to this hospital again and neither should you if you have a choice.

First of all, i just want to give a big shoutout to Dr. Kaul and thank her for her wonderful care! i went to this hospital a month ago for unexplained chest pains and flu-like symptoms. the ER wait was only about 10-15 minutes, the staff was very personable and caring, and they performed all the necessary tests to find out exactly what was going on. i received a diagnosis of severe cavitary pneumonia within 4 hours and was started on iv antibiotics immediately. i was admitted for 10 days, 5 of them in isolation, and in this time i felt adequately cared for. some days were better than others, depending on the nurse it could take up to 30-40 minutes for my call to be answered and when they would come, they‘d forget what i needed in the first place. sometimes i needed care sooner when my fever was spiking or my iv had an occlusion. this is not to say that i didn’t have great nurses as well. the majority of the nursing staff was excellent. Bryce was absolutely amazing; he would respond to my calls almost immediately, he’d come in to check on me throughout the day, he had a great personality and kept me informed on what was going on, and was all-around a wonderful nurse. all-in-all, i am very thankful to this hospital and all of the staff who worked tirelessly to figure out what was wrong with me and provided me with the quality care i needed to bring me back to health.

Frustrated with the PA I saw last night.I brought my infant into the ER center due to leakage from her eyes (yellow pus) and her eyes being swollen shut after waking up from the night or naps throughout the day. On my chief complaint I wrote: “Eye drainage, Swollen eyes, Itchiness of the eyes, pulling at her ears.” The front desk was great and helpful as well as the nurse that assesses your trauma. Once called back after 45 minutes, we sat for 30-45 minutes before anyone checked on us other than the gentlemen who checks and verified your insurance and what not. (And he was WONDERFUL). Once someone came in, they did not introduce them self or tell me who they were or what their job was. (Little did I know it was the PA) Asked me, “what is going on?” I explained to her the symptoms. She listened to my infants heart and peeled her eyes open while she was sleeping (There late last night). She did not do a full exam, which is weird to me since I had an under 6 month old baby in front of her. She did not tell me the diagnosis. All she said was, “I’m going to prescribe erythromycin. You should have discharge papers shortly.” And she walked away. Another 20-30 minutes went by and a nurse came in to hand discharge papers to me. I said, “So what is she diagnosed with?” The nurse said, “Oh, she didn’t tell you? Conjunctivitis.” Then I said, “and who did we just see?” The nurse said, “Oh she didn’t introduce herself. That’s the PA that was in here before me. Her name is ....” No one informed me of what the diagnosis was/meant, no one bothered asking if I was a first time mom or familiar with the virus. No one asked if anyone in the family has had any allergic reactions to the medication, which there has been (found this out after when asking her dad/family). No advice/information was given to help me out with my infant. Front desk was great! Insurance recorder was great! Frustrated with the PA’s lack of professionalism. I am in the medical field as well and I would never enter a room without introducing myself, and thoroughly discussing a diagnosis. Not impressed and will make sure at future appointments/ER visits, my baby will not be seen by that PA.

I am a nurse working for a different hospital but I am completely disappointed in this hospital, from their staff to equipment they are lacking(IV pumps). We went to this hospital because it was the closest to home. My grandmother was hospitalized on new years day and sent home on antibiotics. Seven days later, after her antibiotic therapy, she started wheezing and coughing more. We went to urgent care where she got a breathing treatment which helped temporarily and then she was referred back to the ER after U.C did a chest xray on her that didnt show anything resolving. So we waited in the Abrazo ER and after a couple hours, my grandmother finally got a room in the emergency department. We spent the night in the ER because she couldnt get a bed upstairs. For 12 hours we waited in the ER! I asked a couple nurses if I could get a recliner chair because I have a bad back and am currently doing physical therapy for my back and one of the nurses response was let me ask my charge nurse and then she came back and said unfortunately the charge nurse says we dont do that in the ER, bring recliner chairs to visitors. Second nurse said we dont have any recliner chairs down here, they are all on the floors. I am thinking WELL we are technically supposed to be on the floor but instead we are waiting here, at least make us comfortable. I couldnt leave my grandmother because she doesnt speak English. Nine hours later, one respiratory therapist that came into the room commented on how uncomfortable I look sitting in that hard chair and she said let me ask if we can get you a recliner chair from upstairs. Shortly after that, the nurse brought it in and I was able to rest comfortably for about 3 hours. When we finally got a room for her upstairs, we waited on nurses for a long time whether it was when we asked for a brief so my grandmother could be changed (I did the changing, I didnt want the nurses or nurses aids to have to deal with that), asking for water took a long time, for meds it took hours to get a nurse to bring in meds. My grandmother was on steroids for her lungs and like 2 years ago, her body cannot tolerate steroids very well, her blood sugar spikes like crazy. Her BLOOD SUGAR WAS OVER 600 FOR ALMOST AN ENTIRE DAY! What was done about it? I dont know! She didnt even have a diabetic diet ordered which I demanded they change. And my grandmother does not eat much, its just steroids that mess her up. I found out that from 7am to 9pm her blood sugars were 500-600+. She could have fell into a coma! Later that day during my visit, I asked her about her day and she said her mouth was dry and she was thirsty, her vision was blurred, and she felt weak. I asked how many times the blue interpreter phone was used and she said only once. I was so upset about that, I am assuming the nurse didnt even use the blue phone to ask how she is feeling especially when her blood sugar is through the roof! But how are you supposed to assess a patient with a language barrier if you dont use the blue interpreter phone? Or even called a family member to notify us of this emergency. I am a nurse and what I always do is use the blue phone every four hours during my assessments or if there are major changes in patients condition. She did not tolerate a blood sugar that high as nobody would but I feel like nurses didnt see it as an urgency. The doctors are saying they want to discharge her in a day or two which I disagree with because how are we going to get her blood sugar under control if she continues steroids at home? She takes insulin but thats not enough. She needs closer monitoring. I would want her to stay in the hospital as long as she is getting her steroids because two years ago she got her steroids at home and ended up in ER with blood sugars over 600. I know her body and she knows her body. The doctors dont see a problem with that which I just dont get. Why are they so quick to get her out of the hospital ?? I am highly disappointed and wont be bringing her here in the future. There are other better hospitals out there.
