Had a virgin low lye relaxer done and had a wonderful experience! Nikki was very informative and knowledgeable and gave the best relaxing hair wash I’ve had in a long time. Ive been consistently going to La Pearl Beauty Emporium for about two months now. The stylists are very much advocates for hair and scalp health. When you visit La Pearl, you will experience a professional atmosphere, experienced/ knowledgeable stylist that will nurture your hair and provide you with great/modern hairstyles. I receive treatments for scalp psoriasis and it has helped my scalp greatly. Ive also had my natural hair flat twisted. Recently, Ive been getting a press and curl. Pearl is great with my natural hair. My hair and scalp is on the road to recovery. My hair hasnt looked this healthy in years.

I have been a client at La Pearl for over five years and I am very satisfied with my the way Nikki and Ms.Pearl care for my hair. Nikki is my primary stylist and she does an amazing job at making sure that my hair is healthy and that it looks great too. I have gone through some transitions with my hair styles and Nikki is supportive with my need to change. Some stylist want you to stick with the style that you have but not Nikki, if I mention to her that I am thinking about changing my hair she always gives suggestions about different styles that I would look good with, what it takes to maintain them and the time to decide what is best for me. She also recommends the best hair care treatments, and for me, that included having my scalp examined by her mom, Mrs. Pearl. Having my scalp examined was amazing! Personally, I think everyone should get their scalp examined as a part of their healthy hair care regime. Having a healthy scalp helps you maintain healthy hair, in my opinion.I cant begin to say enough great things about my hair care experience at La Pearl, they have the expertise to care for my hair and I always feel beautiful after I get my hair done.

Very warm, personable customer service: they treat you like family here! I came in to get my natural hair cared for and my stylist, Nikki, was EXTREMELY attentive to my needs and walked me through the whole process and made sure that I knew what I was getting into. And she works so hard! I definitely felt like she was putting the customer first. When we were there a bit late into the night, she even offered to order in some food for the both of us which was unexpected but something that really touched me because she didnt have to worry about me like that but wanted to make sure anyway. I think small acts of kindness and consideration like that says a lot about a person and, furthermore, about this business. Theyre all about their customers and the people. The best part: I walked out of the salon feeling and looking like a queen! Very talented staff here at La Pearl Beauty Emporium and I would definitely recommend them. I know, for sure, that I will be returning myself! :)

Ms. Nikki was super patient and kind to me as she got my hair together. My hair turned out looking great; Ms. Nikki truly did an awesome job. I will definitely be back!

La Pearl Beauty Emporium Inc is one of the most professional and caring places to get a mean cut. Ive had long hair all my life, however I needed and wanted to stop perming my hair. In addition, I was anxious about cutting it short. Nikki talked me through my concerns and over time I accepted the change to cut my hair short and stop the perms. I do not regret the change...i love it! Thank you!

Overall it was a great experience. But I was prepared to wait. It took a long time to get my silk press done BUT the overall customer service was excellent. She was professional when replying to emails/phone calls and when answering my questions while in the chair. She never burned my scalp and that is probably the first time I have EVER experienced no burns.The thing that makes my experience 5 stars is she was helping another salon out. They had a fire and she let them utilize her salon to continue working. That is incredible and I respect her for that.And to think going to her was unintentional. I will be back.

A trip to Lapearl’s is always a pleasure. My amazing stylist Nikki brings my hair to life. She has been my stylist since High School. She has seen how the difference in sleep habit, eating habits, pregnancy, stress, and growth has affected my hair and yes she has kept it strong stylish and fabulous. I love the way she creatively colors and she is a master with sheers. I love being a constant client/family/friend of Lapearl’s Beauty Emporium.

I went in for a cut, shampoo & blow dry. Before coming in, I called and I was quoted $85. After Nikki was done, she said $120. I was in a hurry and paid, even though I thought that was strange. Once I got home, I went on her website and added everything up and it was indeed $85. When I asked for the $35 back, she kept making excuses. First it was “your service is a set price of 120!” Then it was “well you asked for blow dry and that was an extra $35!”. Which is all a lie because on the price list, a cut is $50 and shampoo, conditioning AND blow dry is $35. When I pointed out the discrepancy, she said “Ive been doing hair for 30 years! I make the prices! That price isn’t on the website!”——well why the **** not? You don’t have the right to make up prices as you go. That’s not how it works. You first quoted me 85 and on the price list it totals 85.I will not tolerate being taken advantage of and will dispute it with my bank since she didn’t want to do the right thing and give me my money back.Edit- I have your rambling voicemail...everything I said is 100% the truth.

The service at La Pearl Beauty Emporium is awesome. Nikki is an excellent stylist and is very knowledgeable about hair care. I absolutely loves the way she washes my hair it is so relaxing.

I went into La Pearl Beauty to get a wash and trim. Nikki was very kind to me and gave great advice for my hair growth retention. Natural hair salons are always pricey, but she was so understanding when I said no to a treatment and a product because I didnt have the funds. I also wasnt pressured to have anything extra. It was a great experience. The salon is so cute, and nice. I recommend it :)

My first ever experience at a black owned business. I was a walk in. I highly recommend you make an appointment. Nicki did her best to get to me. I got to the salon at 11:30 didnt leave till 6:30. I loved the way my hair came out and she gave me a light trim. It was a lovely establishment. The girls who work there are so nice they really take of you. Just schedule an appointment. Highly recommend this business.

I’m very cautious about who does my hair because I’ve had some bad experiences, so I went on line trying to find another one since my last hair dresser disappointed me. But anyway I found this salon and I looked at the reviews and they were very good,a few negatives but you can’t please everyone. So I called and spoke with nicki, she was very nice and gave me an appointment at early morning so it didn’t take my whole day and I greatly appreciated that. My hair looks beautiful I got so many compliments on it I think I’ve found a new home. Thank you Nikki.

Started my Locs & on going maintenance at this salon. 4 years strong. Once you accept the culture there and have a little patience, The service & technicians are great. A bit pricey but i wouldnt settle for anything less.

Called to ask about a service and the women was engaging me in an argument than an actual conversation about what she has to offer. Not going to deal with people’s STINK PHILLY ATTITUDE! Had a wonderful experience at La Pearl. Ive been going natural for a little over a year and recently just acquired a job where a more corporate look. So instead of trying to straightening my hair I decided to do a weave but had no idea what kind Id like (full sewn-in, partial etc) I called to make my appointment and actually spoke to the stylist I was going to see: Sheena. Shes fabulous! She answered all my questions and told me to call her back if I had anymore questions. Everyone was friendly when I arrived at the shop. Sheena asked a lot of questions about my hair care routine and encouraged me to ask her any questions about the upkeep of my hair, which I really appreciated. She did a fantastic job with my full sewn-in weave and I will definitely be returning. As someone who hadnt been to a salon over a year and was incredibly nervous about trying a new shop, I HIGHLY recommend La Pearl.

Nikki consulted with me and did an excellent job on my thick natural hair . She listened to my needs , cut , colored and coiled my hair to perfection. I’m still getting compliments over 3 weeks later . Worth the price.

I’m very disappointed. This was my second visit. I’m natural and use nothing but wide tooth combs and then a fine one on wet hair to detangled. One keys (i apologize for misspelling) used a paddle brush and was tripping my hair apart when dry. I don’t know how i sat in the chair. I’m more angry with myself after i saw how impatient she was. I asked for a trim. I came in with my hair mid back- past my bra. And I left with my hair barely at bra length when I checked at home.This is just a tip in general: don’t make the last appointment of the day and watch while someone trims. I’m not sure i will return. Otherwise she is a nice lady. But the detangling is something I would never hurry or use a paddle brush for to the point of pain. And the trim was a cut and shape was not something I needed right now.I’m not sure what was miscommunicate but this was a learning experience that I could have avoided by being my vigilant.Edit: A response to owner and follow up to perspective customers: I wouldn’t be able to retain the length I have or had if I never detangled. The difference is I expect a stylist to take their time and use a wide tooth comb and or finger detangle. Instead of ripping my hair apart like it’s time to open presents. Just asking “does this hurt” and not changing tools or pressure is laughable. If anyone arrives with dreadlocks (which my hair definitely was not- It was slightly matted from product used the day before to detangle) it would be your responsibility to kindly help detangle or kindly reject the task. My head still aches this morning. I wouldn’t recommend anyone here for natural hair services if you have long hair that commits the cardinal sin of matting and tangling.

This place was a rip off. I came in for a tightening. The lady did a great job but didnt tell me the price would be 290 until the end! This was not an install. The price of a tightening is usually 40-50 dollars, but I had to come here since my other stylist was not working that day. Please just get your prices at the beginning.

I have been going to La Pearls for about four years now; they have always taken exceptional care of my hair. Prior to going to La Pearl, I had a really horrible experience at a salon and it caused my hair to be in great distress. Sheena, a stylist at La Pearls, helped my hair make a full recovery and she has been my primary stylist since. Even when I went away to college I would travel an hour and a half back to Philadelphia via train just to have Sheena do my hair. The atmosphere you get at La Pearls is fun and relaxing, everyone there really makes you feel welcomed! The staff is knowledgeable and can help you get the hairstyle you desire while enriching your hair at the same time.

Sheena is a wonderful stylist. I’ve gotten compliment after compliment every time she does my hair. She’s great at styling my natural hair; keeping it soft and manageable.

Went in to get my natural hair straightened. While that went alright, Nicki was very unpleasant and unprofessional to my mother and I. Rolling her eyes, and completely rude. I don’t recommend this place at all if you desire a lovely service!Plus after 3 days, and my hair is now frizzy. So mediocre styling + horrible service. Naturals beware. People seeking a pleasant experience, beware.

I got my dreads started and maintained here by Nikki. She always explains what shes doing and I trust her. I recommend Nikki for anyone thats thinking about starting a dread journey, you wont be disappointed

I got my hair done here the first time I got my very first weave. Loved it. It lasted super look. They HOOKED my hair up and slayyeed my edges. Look VERY natural. They made sure to also take care of my natural hair & took the time to wash my bundles and detangle all my hair. Will be coming back again .

Good day, I encountered this salon because my grandkids order me an edible arrangement from across the street from this salon. When I arrived I had to use the bathroom to the point that I couldnt hold it anymore.. I came into this shop asking and hoping theyd let me use the ladies room. Being african decent such as myself I just knee she was going to say yes seeing that I was doing the bathroom dance to be told no, no public restrooms here which was understandable. Sheesh I went into two businesses their after one being edible arrangements and the last being the nail salon, their they allowed me me use their bathroom... I almost urinated in myself.. How are we suppose to bind together if your going to let your own sister almost go to the bathroom on herself.. We need more unity... Im a natural and you never know where the acts of kindness could have gotten you!!!! Love you sis...

This is my first time getting styled by Nikki and the experience was great, everyone super nice and my natural hair is soft, silky and looks healthy.

The owner snapped at me cursing me out and was very rude because I parked in front of her store at a handicap parking spot which was public parking spot but she told me it was her moms only personal handicap parking spot. I definitely dont have a problem moving but after the ignorance that came out her mouth I park there for the rest of the night

I went to La Pearl for 5 months. Nikki does very good sew ins, and great blow outs. Shes also good for conversation. However, she does have a little bit of a short fuse/small attitude if you show even the smallest bit of concern about a service, which often caught me off guard and surprised me that she was a bit quick to get annoyed. It was never to the point where it was a blow up, however.La Pearl is bit overpriced compared to other salons. However I stopped going to her for mainly two reasons: 1) the wait time is way too long for a professional person and 2) I didnt think she cared about natural hair or maintaining hair texture.1) Time: When I went, Nikki was typically the only stylist working on clients, so services took longer than the normal time. Ive gone for a shampoo and style on a weekday and have spent over 4 hours at the salon for the service. This didnt seem to bother me as much until one day she stated that she would never go to a stylist that takes more than 4 hours for certain services. She then followed this statement up with my services take longer because its just me here and I do everything. She made it clear during the conversation that she doesnt care whether or not her clients wait long. Why make your clients endure something that you yourself wouldnt? And seem not to care? Why overbook to the point that clients are at your salon waiting for hours on end for simple services? On a weekend, if I went for a wash and blow dry, ive been there for up to 3.5 hours (10 am to 1/ 1:30 pm).Also, if you want to do a sew in, she only has certain times. If you want to go any time after 4:30 on a weekday for a sew-in or to put in a couple of tracks, the ONLY time slot she seems to ever have is 7 p.m. Which is fine if she could finish by 10 or 11, but I was in the salon until 1 am multiple times. Shes pushed those late appointments back about an hour and a half before because she had other clients to take care of. I was pretty understanding but Its exhausting for a working professional so I had to head to salons who were better for my schedule.2) Hair Care: As said in the beginning, she is great with straight hair and sew ins. However, I think she cares more about making natural hair manageable than actually getting the results the client wants. I had some heat damage at the front of my hair when I came to her so she suggested I get a keratin treatment to manage my hair while the heat damage grow out. I believed she was more informed than me about the benefits of keratin but I realized later on that she wanted to be more manageable rather than healthy. My hair got a little thicker when I went to her but I also noticed more split ends, damage at the ends, and weakness in parts of my hair other than the top. My edges also got thinner while going to her salon. Im not sure if it was because of the keratin or the amount of heat she used on my hair. On natural clients, she uses a large amount of heat (puts you under dryers and steamers multiple times in an appointment -- even without deep conditioner-- and then puts a hot comb and straighter through your hair wet hair without, from my view, product). I also witnessed her tell a natural client who wanted to keep her natural hair texture the way it was that she has to blow dry her hair (use heat) in order to achieve a twist out. This is not always the case and defeats the purpose for people who are natural and want to revive their curls and texture.While the services were good, the overall experience is not for me. If you want a nice sew in, have relaxed hair or consistently straight hair, and have time to spare then you have nothing to lose going here!

Nikki brought my hair back to life

Everyone was very friendly!!! And my stylist was very knowledgeable aboUT natural hair; however, I waited about 4 hours (went in around 2 and left at 6) just to get my hair straight and ends clipped. After she was done I was satisfied but as soon as I left the left side of my hair was very frizzy and wasnt straight. FYI It was sunny outside, no rain so there was no reason for my hair not to be straight like the other side. I wasnt near no water and it wasnt humid. I waisted $65....never again!
