A family member went to our family doctor for a physical and everything was fine based on the physical from the doctor. However, we asked for a few specific blood tests for her own benefit. We received a lab order confirmation at that time of the appointment and the lab tests and the confirmation showed only the few tests we asked for and discussed. However, it was only after receiving the blood test results and the bill that only included the amount for the blood tests, that we saw the bill was more than $1,500 after the insurance-negotiated price. This is more than double what it should have been had they only performed the requested lab work that was on the paper confirmation they gave to us. They did more than than twice the amount of blood tests than what we asked for, and none of which were on the lab order confirmation provided to us. It is like going to a mechanic and asking for an oil change, but getting a bill for not just the oil change but also other work that the car didnt need. Additionally, our family doctor told us that the blood tests at Jefferson vs. somewhere like Lab Corp would be comparable; however, after speaking with multiple people in the industry it seems like common knowledge that this is not the case. I echo other people’s complaints about communications, or really the lack thereof. The app that Jefferson uses is terrible, even their customer service group told us it’s not the best tool for communication. However, the doctor told us that the app was the best way to reach her and thats what we should use. We would go sometimes two weeks without a reply, and only after two weeks and after messaging customer service and/or our doctor multiple times, would we get a reply. We also called the doctor number provided to us on our paperwork but never received a call back. I thought Jefferson was a place with a great reputation in Philadelphia, but we felt taken advantage of and that Jefferson only cared about squeezing every last penny out of us. The customer service was unsatisfactory and we are leaving Jefferson to find a new doctor. Based on other reviews, our experience appears to be in-line with the trend of other patients who are leaving Jefferson due to the impersonal treatment and poor customer service and communications, and some of those people appear to have been patients at Jefferson for decades.

One star because the doctors are great. You will wait at least 20 minutes on hold to make an appointment. Last week the woman who put me in the room never told the doctor and I sat there for 1 hour and 45 minutes until I said something. She was sitting right outside the room, oblivious. After that, three messages over seven days to the referral team, (you cannot actually get someone on the phone), with all pertinent information, and 2 cancelled physical therapy appointments later, even the woman on the phone cannot seem to locate anyone from the referral team to find out why it is still pending approval. I guess they only go through if you are using a Jefferson provider, but that is where my insurance is sending me. I am very sad to be looking for a new doctor, I really like the medical staff in this office, but the admin is atrocious.Follow up: I eventually reached the woman who handles referrals, and she was extremely helpful and had the referral fixed right away. Note: She advised that she only gets the referral line voicemail, messages not the referral messages that go through MyChart??!! Subsequently the direct message to my doctor resulted in a call from the nurse to confirm it was cleared up. Still concerned about what would have happened if it had been urgent, this took over a week of constant effort.

I love dr Janice bonat. She is one of the most knowledgeable physicians in the practice and doesn’t beat around the bush. She really looked into my past medical history and helped me tremendously. When my pcp left the practice i was going to switch offices all together until i had a sick visit with her and she realized i never had an immunization i should have had years ago. I highly recommend her. The wait is long but she’s worth it.

Completely unprofessional residents and physicians. Over an hour wait to be seen with an appointment. No response from your treating physician after reaching out for more than a week via calls and online messaging. What once was a solid practice is now ran like a free clinic. After being a patient for over a decade I will be leaving this awful practice.

I advise everyone to seek other providers to attend to there medical needs. Since August 2017 I have called countless times since letters even messages through the patient portal only to receive conflicting information. These individuals are adamant that Im financially responsible when it was determined that incorrect coding was used. No one has communicated with me. Today, the rep stated things changed from preventative to diagnostic. Well not informing of these changes goes against my right as a patient. Im apart of the treatment process I have a right to decline service and to receive clear timely communication which none of the following has happened. While each rep agrees they blame it on the providers office who has never contacted me about anything. I will never return to here and advise others not to. They have no financial integrity no value for patients nor the laws set forth. Its all about the money here.

You wont believe me, but for the last 2 hours Ive been trying to get someone on the phone. Its not lunchtime and Im calling the regular appointment line.I call. I put the phone on speaker for about 25 minutes. No one answers. I hang up and call back again and wait. Again and again. Its been friggin 2hoursId just give up except that I need to talk to somebody about getting a referral. I have left five messages already, two on their phone and three through the MyChart website this the past week. No replies, no referral. appointment I need the referral for actually happens in 4 days so I thought I better talk to a person to get this done. But ITS BEEN TWO HOURS.Updating my review:Cant remember once in the last two years that Ive seen a doc anywhere near the appointment time. Once they even forgot to tell the doc I was there. So, Ive tried to switch to the video chats. Guess what? Right now Ive been waiting for 20 mins past my appt time for that. This is my 2nd time trying to use it. The first time when no doc was there in 20 mins I hung up.AND if you need any kind of controversal medication - like gawdforbid 5 valium to last a year, forget it, youre a drug addict.I keep going to these guys because they are a few blocks from my office but the amount of ***absolutely wasted time*** they cause me isnt worth it.(TL;DR - They suck, and they continue to suck in brand new ways!)

Customer Service is unpleasant and unprofessional. Call wait times can be 15 - 60 min. Online messages go unanswered. Telemedicine visits get forgotten. Getting an appointment can be a waiting game. Your scheduled appointment is never on time. At Jefferson, patients are viewed as numbers, not people.

I have been coming here for over 15years and I have yet to be disappointed. They have great support staff as well as physicians. The practice is pretty big with lots of residents so you may be bound to seeing a physician that you don’t like but there is plenty that are great. All my children and step children go here as well as my sister and her kids. We found physicians who are honest and care about us so we stuck with them and that can be hard to come by theses days with so many pharmaceutical pushing doctors... thank you for your commitment to your patients!

Firstly google maps is misleading on the entrance. The Actual entrance is on the north east corner of 9th and Chestnut. If you go to where it says Obstetrics you’re in the wrong place. It’s been incorrect on google for years so they have signs on the door to alert you.The actual facility has been really great in my experience. I say this because of my visits but also due to certain indicators I see in how it’s run. I watch the nurses come and call people and greet them with what appears to be genuine kindness and interest. The doctors have been top quality. The people at the front desk who check you in are pleasant enough and know what they are trained to know (again in my experience.). The waiting room proceeds orderly and efficiently and is clean. If you go to a doctors office and DON’T see this (and I rarely have in the past) you are seeing symptoms of much bigger issues with how things are run at that establishment. Most big city doctors offices register as “DMV” on the worker apathy scale and “Congress” on the disorganization scale. So when you see one that is not, you write a review about it.*Your experience may vary.

All of the doctors and nurses I’ve met have been friendly and helpful but the phone system is AWFUL. I’ve never been on hold so long with a doctor’s office and I see an oncologist at Cooper who is very high in demand, so that’s saying something. As I write this, it’s 21 minutes and counting that I’ve been on hold trying to make an appointment and this is every single time I call. It’s very frustrating.

If you want to be treated like cattle, then go here. I have a very mild prescription for my blood pressure (5mg). They are now holding it ransom until come in for an appointment. Currently I am in school, commute 25 hours a week and work 50+ hours. I asked them if they could just fill for a month and I could come in on spring break. They refused. So now I am without my meds for at least a month. Bravo thank you for caring for my health! Oh wait, silly me, you just want to charge my insurance so you can get your money.

As others have noted, this place is a money-grabbing machine, and not a very efficient at that. Like another reviewer, I have a mild blood pressure condition, and they refuse to give me a prescription for more than three months - meaning, so they can bill my insurance for a doctors visit to take my blood pressure. Ive waited for over an hour for each visit, meaning I waste half my day to be over charged for a routine procedure. At least this time I was able to research a new practice and leave this review!

This used to be a truly professional practice! No longer. Now they will call you in before refilling maintenance prescriptions, even if you had visited them within the recent past. With full understanding of the prescription refill problem today, it seems like the current practice is more about money grabbing than being cautionary or caring for the patient. When I mentioned to the office manager that I had a co pay for each visit, she blithely stated that it wasnt the fault of the office and that this matter should be addressed to my health insurance. [As if there was any choice in the matter]. I certainly cant recommend Jefferson Family Medicine at 700 Walnut St.

I chose Jefferson Family Medicine as my PCP. My first appointment I signed a release to send records for an ultrasound another doctor (not from Jefferson) wanted me to get. Weeks after the ultrasound I had to eventually send over the results myself because at first Jefferson didnt have a release in my file, then I sent one over, then my other doctors office told me they never received anything from Jefferson. Also, I saw a nurse practioner (your first appointment you cant see an actual MD for whatever reason?) and he refused to give me a script for routine blood work. I even emailed him through the portal multiple times afterwards to ask for blood work again given that I havent had it in years and my family history of illness, but again after weeks I was responded to that because of my youth and health status it wasnt necessary. Very unprofessional place and Im in the process of switching doctors currently. If you want a doctors office with a sense that your doctor actually knows you and cares and youre not just a number in the system, then I do not recommend this place.

Such horrible lack of professionalism an courtesy since theyve switched to their call-center appointment system. Spoke to a rep today to ask why I had a Saturday appointment at 10:00 am when the building was locked. Representative got an attitude right away and told me I had to use the 9th street entrance. When I said I would have appreciated being told that earlier, being a new patient, she got even nastier and told me there was a sign on the door like I had zero brain cells. There was in fact no sign and I was not the only patient trying to access the building through the front entrance without any knowledge of the back entrance on display. In the end, my appointment was never even put into the system by the previous rep that I scheduled with. You have got to be kidding me. People go there because they are sick and dont need to be treated like garbage when theyre already down, trying to get help.

I’m writing this review because I’ve been with Jefferson for years and have noticed it’s steady decline in patient service. I suffer from Lupus and severe anxiety, had an incident last year from a chemo infusion that caused severe PTSD. I was asked to come in by my physician because she would no longer fulfill my anxiety prescription because she believed I was refilling them too frequently. That’s fair. I understand the drug epidemic in this country. However, when I saw her and tried to explain to her that my anxiety had gotten worse since my chemo infusion (she began prescribing me the medication over a year prior to that incident), she told me that I didn’t have increased anxiety, but that I was building a tolerance and that she wanted me to come off the medication. For someone having panic attacks, who’s only found relief through that medication, I was horrified. On top of that, I mentioned to her that it took over a week to refill my prescription and that’s why I called them in early and she said that’s impossible. She refills them “every day”. Well, I requested for a refill on Sunday and it’s Friday. She also denied my request for a refill days before I was supposed to come in for an appointment. I was completely out of medication by that time. She blatantly tried to downplay my health concerns and made me feel like an addict, telling me that I kept “making excuses” for why I needed to be kept on medication. And then when I asked for a referral for a psychiatrist, she tried to talk me out of it by saying “they’re only going to prescribe you stronger drugs and you know they don’t do therapy, right?” I’m absolutely appalled by her behavior and on top of that, she’s not even a physician, she’s a nurse practitioner and I would avoid having her as your primary if you don’t want a similar experience. I can’t wait to switch over to UPENN. So disappointed with Jefferson.
