Their ER dept is great. The nursing service during the night was horrible. It took 2 hours for them to address my relatives irregular breathing and she was having another heart attack. She died. My relative wasnt a donor but Sutter kept harassing me for her skin after she died with multiple phone calls, telling that it was only a 1/4 that they take from her body. The level of insensitivity is astounding.

If you can avoid this hospital and go to another one, do it.The bills were outrageous and once I thought they were all paid, I got additional ones because the hospital uses third party services. When complaining to friends, they pointed out the 60 minutes reporting on the hospital and its practices to over charge people to an absurd amount. Avoid them if you can!!!Was in contact with the doctor for less than 5 minutes and endured a $900 out of pocket bill after insurance deductions. Paid another insane amount to see a specialist because the ER did not do all the tests and discharged me without proper medications or directions.

My dad was a patient here and the Doctors/ Nurses were too busy to explain my fathers condition to his family. .My father was transported in a ambulance from Oakland campus to Ashby campus in Berkeley without his wallet and cell phone . We werent notified until 2 days later. even though a day after my father was transported I called and spoke to someone about the ceramic vase and flowers that were missing. which were never found. .Not a good place

Do not EVER go here for an emergency. I collapsed and couldn’t walk and they didn’t believe me. I had to have someone take me to another ER where they admitted me immediately. The people at that hospital are woefully inept and cruel.

Nurse Brianna (CPU) knew my family member was declining but didnt give family a call. I called to request to facetime w/ my grandfather, and he was already unresponsive. I called her and told her he was unstable and unresponsive. Then, she went to check on the patient. She knew he has a history of hypertension, and since vital signs are taken ever 15 minutes, she would have known that he was declining with a BP in the 70s, and then he was in asystole soon after the facetime. No one was allowed at the bedside, until the patient had already passed away. She requested for family to be at the bedside AFTER the patient had passed. Unfortunately, no one was able to say their last goodbyes.

Horrible place.went to ER here for complicated pregnancy issue. Couple of the nurses and a doctor were nice. Although slow as heck. Didn’t tell me anything about my results, but kept ordering tests. The ULtrasound technician in ER was the worst experience I had here. She was just absolutely heartless and awful . She got annoyed at me because I was bleeding and literally said “will you just get back into bed” told me I could not have phone in the room and demanded I put it away (I was texting family to let them know what was going on as I had been waiting several hours for ultrasound and my husband was waiting in the car worried. They wouldn’t let him come in due to Covid). I would love to file a formal complaint against her but by the reviews most people here have had terrible experiences. I spend half the day in a dirty bed I was bleeding heavily. Do not go here, worst hospital I have been to.

Do not go to this hospital for anything, especially now during a pandemic. My daughter went there fotreatment related to her diabetes per our primary care doctor. They incorrectly placed her with those infected with the virus. They did not address the problem related to her diabetes and they gave her meds that her endocrinologist told her not to take. The nurses were not washing their hands and using contaminated gloves. General behavior of hospital staff was disorganized and unprofessional. I had to literally decontaminate my daughter to get her in car and when she got home. What a terrible hospital.

My husband was brought in from work after suffering fainting at work. He told them hes been in pain for over 4 days and non-stop vomiting. Cant eat or sleep due to pain. They sent him home and did absolutely nothing. The next day we go to Stanford because he was getting worse. Here we are admitted because he has pancreatitis and might need surgery to remove part of it. You guys are horrible and did absolutely nothing to figure out why he was suffering. Only worried about the money coming in apparently.

My experience at Summit Hospital was outstanding. The treatment that I received beginning with the triage nurse and doctor to the two nurses in the emergency room was spectacular. I was in a very bad way with A-fib. I spent four days in ICU and the care I received , is difficult to put in words a simple thank you doesn’t do it justice. The doctor that drained the fluid from around my heart took the time to explain to me what was happening. The doctors that followed up on my care were very professional and also planned with us my after care. I would like to mention the nurse’s name in ICU and on the eighth floor but I will protect their privacy.

Had another ER experience elsewhere shortly after visiting Alta Bates. The comparison of experiences under the circumstances made me appreciate the services delivered by the Alta Bates ER staff. Dealing with a stressful health situation is challenging at best and I’m grateful for the genuine attention and care provided.@Damion I’m going to be begrudging all future RNs for not being charming enough 🍀#rockstar

Guards inside ER with masks but not wearing them. More than a few guards removed their masks and chatted close to each other right outside of the ER but also inside the ER. Not sure why they even have masks. I could be wrong and the masks are no longer recommended but this was abnormal on Oct23-2020

My mother was admitted to Alta Bates with sepsis secondary to PNA. She was in and out of ICU r/t fluid overload, low O2 sats, afib and heart failure. During this 10 day stay, she had a significant fall, causing skin tears and bruising. This occurred when she repeatedly pressed the call light with no response and attempted to get up on her own as she needed to use the commode. She was left sitting in her own feces on the floor for 20 min. When a charge nurse questioned why a family member was staying overnight with my mother, my sister mentioned the fall. The charge nurse became irate and denied that my mom had fallen, stating there was no documentation of a fall.We had my mother transferred to Stanford where she has received excellent care and recovering. AVOID ALTA BATES! POOR NURSING CARE, DIRTY ROOMS, UNPROFESSIONAL.

On August 1 at 2:30AM I was admitted with A fib and heart attack - a large terrible nurse named Mark was one of my nurses and he was so obnoxious and rough physically that he grabbed me and cut my skin. I said I am older and fragile why are you rushing around like this; he said I do everything in a hurry and then it gets done. I looked at my arm and said look you cut me; I was bleeding. He muttered some kind of sorry and went on his way while someone else had to bandage me. He was nasty with all the persons in that room while I was there for 5 hours. He should be discharged. Nursing is not his profession. He reminds me of a vietnam vet who is taking out all his agressions on the patients. God help me if I ever have to see him again-- I would scream bloody murder. He does not deserve to be a nurse. The other nurses were fine; but because of him one stars.

Most pathetic service. My wife was hospitalized in rehab and they did not give proper attention. Medication delay for 3 plus hours reason given was that pharmacist did not deliver the meds.Unavailability of doctors from 9am to 5 pm until shift change and when enquired answer is that doc is in transit. inspite of having an MRI unit it was not functional. I had to take my wife in an ambulance to mri unit and back.Overall physical therapists speech therapists and neuro psychologists are awesome but the medical directors are not responsive and too pathetic. Nurses had the audacity to tell us that they belong to different floor and will not be able to cater to my wife’s needs. Overall they are a nonsense facility and they play with life’s. My wife had to get readmitted to ICU and then additional 15 days of hospitalization and then a month long rehabilitation. Please do not get anyone admitted here.

Was the contact for my family member who had a cardiac procedure done. 2 hrs of waiting for updates when I contacted a staff member was told she was in procedure room. After the procedure she was transfered to the 8th floor I was given a phone call to advise me she had been transfered, the staff knew I was waiting outside in the lounge . A little more consideration and updates would make the family less stressed with the added anxiety. Maybe invest in a board that shows where the patient is when having procedures and surgery.

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible ER. Intake nurse determines blood work BEFORE doctor even sees you. Then a LONG WAIT. When doctor did show up she said my daughter who was doubled over in stomach pain and having cognitive issues was “not an emergency case” and sent us home without even reviewing the panel of blood they took!!! No diagnosis provided. Said “go find a regular doctor” which by the way was a two week wait. So $350 copay later a total waste of time. NEVER GOING THERE AGAIN. BROKEN SYSTEM. I have a lot of experience with ER visits. AND WE HAD HEALTH INSURANCE SO NO EXCUSE FOR APATHETIC ATRITUDES!!!

Treated disgustingly here. Came in for uncontrollable twitching and face grimacing. Was treated horribly by the fire department and ambulance, but that’s another issue all together. When I was brought to the hospital the staff AND security openly made jokes and rude comments while I could clearly hear. I was in a state unable to properly communicate or explain things thoroughly, and the staff seemed impatient.Regardless of whatever my situation was to bring me into the hospital, NO one should be treated this way and I will not go here again nor recommend this hospital to anyone.

Ive been to Alta Bates ER twice and had surprisingly pleasant experiences both times (Surprisingly because Ive had some downright awful and humiliating experiences in other ERs). Wait time was less than 30mins... Doctors, PAs and nurses were all extremely kind and patient with me... My medical issues were resolved within 2hrs... Kinda hard to find a downside! Hope I can continue to count on them in the future :)

Very bad waiting experience at the ER, despite the team’s hard work.Basically: if you don’t have a life threatening condition – don’t waste your time waiting there, as the Hospital is set in a very deprived neighborhood, with mostly harsh / neglected cases around. Escorted my friend who needed prescription drugs urgently (for a neurologic disease, yet – not a life threat) – we were triaged to the bottom of the list, waited from 10pm till 4am to be seen. Triage Nurse: please clarify this may be the case, allow folks to decide to revisit in the morning…At the same time, the team is fulfilling a very important mission in an admirable way, with an emergency / crisis zone like hospital.

Had a laughably incompetent, week-long scheduling experience with the pre-operative clinic for a benign breast tumor removal, including follow-up that re-cast the information. I was already stressed out for the procedure, but now I lack the confidence that any info I provide will be communicated effectively, or in the administrative side of this healthcare facility. The scheduler just left me a VM expressing confusion on her end, while getting facts wrong (you didnt keep calling me, i did get a call from a NP with no prior warning, you didnt call me back yesterday) so its nice to know that theyre super on top of it over there.

Worse experience of my life Me and my faience went their for our check up for our baby we got there at 5:00Pm Wednesday afternoon wasnt helped until 7:30pm when we finally got help they took us to do the ultra sound it took about 2hurs (Relatable), from there the nurse told us a doctor will be with us soon That didnt happen until an hour or so later now its 9:45 and my fience is wondering whats the wait and they tell us they took her out the system NO DISCHARGE, THEY NEVER EXPLAINED ANYTHING, & My faience still had the IV in her arm. After that the nurse figure out that the Ultra sound nurse took us out the system (Unprofessional) they had realized their mistake so then we had to wait so they could make us a private room. When we got our room the doctor came in 20mins later talked to us for about 10mins mostly (Questions) which already been asked by like 4 nurses & left WE NEVER GOT ANY ANSWER TO ANY OF OUR QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS i heard and seen a lot of laughing and joking never will I got here again.P.S its my opinion but you can see for yourself
