This was my second full knee replacement! I had my first replacement done in Europe in 2009!My latest experience with Dr. Caillouette and his team far exceeded my expectations. From day one I had extremely attentive staff looking after me and although inundated with e-mails, texts and phone calls daily I realize now that it was all very beneficial, helpful and for my own interest! The operation was very successful and I remember waking up in a very clean and comfortable room surrounded by very pleasant staff doing their utmost to make sure that I was comfortable! The daily e-mails, text messages and phone calls carried on throughout my recuperation. Brilliant and professional service. Would recommend without hesitation!

Saw Dr Caillouette in March 2019 for a meniscus tear. Surgery could not have been smoother. Surgery on Thursday; started 8 weeks of PT the following Monday. Running again in 6 weeks. Now, 18 months or so later, I have no pain or stiffness or anything at all in that knee. Heaven!

Just an AWFUL experience! Dr. Caillouette was well reviewed, I went to see him to examine a year old knee injury after being told that orthopedic doctors can perform several physical examinations to determine the causes of knee pain without an MRI. I waited several weeks to get on his calendar, then about an hour in the waiting room. When he finally came in and was briefed by his assistant about my visit, he informed me that he only deals with complete knee replacement and that i would need to come back to see one of their sports medicine guys. A complete waist of my time but i dont blame the doctor, the office should have known this before booking me with him. They billed my insurance and billed me for my $50 co-pay. I sent a check but kept getting the bills, so I went to their office on my lunch break to pay it in person (i just wanted to stop getting the bills i explained to the receptionist). At the office I was told that the billing department was at lunch and they could not accept payment in person. I left my information with the reception desk and asked that someone get back to me so i can pay this and get them off my back, no one did. Now Im getting collection calls from the office. I dont know what more one can do to settle a payment (an insignificant one at that), but I have done everything I can think of to pay them and stop this constant harassment.

Dr. Caillouette is one of the best surgeons in Orange County and that plus being at Hoag is such a relief when one thinks about having surgery. The procedure preformed on my knee was done as expected and recovery has been as expected. I highly recommend Dr Caillouette. He came highly recommended by a retired nurse from Hoag who was familiar with his reputation. He did the surgery on both knees of my son and his recovery was excellent. It convinced me that I was doing the right thing too.

Dr. Caillouette explained the reasons for hip replacement and the procedure in terms that I could understand. His office provided information before surgery that helped me prepare without being nervous about the surgery or hospital stay. After surgery, I receive an e-mail daily that helps me understand where I am in the healing process. I phoned his office with one question regarding my post-surgery condition, and I received a prompt response. Dr. Caillouettes physician assistant, Cara Walker, explains everything carefully and in an easy to understand manner.

Doctor Caillouette was referred to me by a family member. I was amazed by his kindness and by the impression that he had nothing more important on his mind besides sitting with me and ensuring all my questions were answered during our initial visit (even though the rest of his office was crazy busy when I was there). I had a hip replacement: after three days my pain was down to almost zero. Wonderful responsive staff helped immensely with the process of preparing for and recovering from my surgery. I know at one point I will probably need the other hip replaced and will not hesitate to reach out to Dr. Caillouette when that time comes. This physician is truly gifted and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found him.

I had no idea what to expect when I went in for a total knee replacement. The staff in Irvine were very professional and caring. Dr. Cailouette had explained the procedure to me two days before so when he came in before the surgery I really had no questions for him. They were always conscious of my pain levels and were surprised when I said I had none.The pain before was awful. The pain after was almost nonexistent. I used the walker for three days and a cane for three more and I am now walking on my own and doing exercises twice a day. I am looking forward to physical therapy starting in two days to help my leg get stronger. I am grateful to DR, Cailouette his assistant Cara and the rest of his staff for the professional service I was provided.

I was up and walking without a cane in 2 weeks.The level of care was incredible but the most impressive thing for me was their ability to manage my pain level so well after the surgery. I had had a major knee procedure 15 years prior which was extremely painful afterwards and actually kept me from wanting to have this knee replacement specifically because I did not want to go through that pain again. Have had 2 hips replaced by Dr Caillouette. Results are excellent. He and staff are competent and supportive.A recent innovation is the Dr’s portal, HealthLoop. Before surgery, the patient is told what they need to do by certain times. After surgery, on a daily basis, the patient is told what is normal for that time after surgery, asked if there are danger signs of DVT. Patient is given opportunity to ask questions about their progress. The office responds usually within an hour or two. This has been extremely beneficial in reducing my anxiety. This is an amazing innovation in patient care. I can’t praise Dr Caillouette, Cara (PA), and Julie enough for their diligence and support during recovery and pre-surgery. I hope other Drs follow Dr Caillouette’s lead in this innovation.

The entire staff is top notch. They are very interested in your well being and completely on top of infection control and getting you up and back to life as soon as possible.

Knee replacement is a very scary thing. Knowing I had 2 bad knees, I knew sooner or later they’d have to be replaced. I tried all the injections but once the knees are bone on bone there is only one solution-knee arthroplasty. Being a very active person it scared me to think I’d be out of commission for quite some time. I heard through various sources about Dr. Caillouette and his minimallly invasive surgery success. So I went to interview him. When I asked him how many knee replacements he’d done he smiled and said over 5,000. He even invented the instruments for this type of minimally invasive surgery when he was 35 years old. Many people I talked to said he was their surgeon and praised his skills. Dr. Caillouette was going to be my surgeon. My first replacement was on May 8, 2018. I was climbing our condos 29 stairs on the first day. I used a walker for only 1 day and quickly transitioned to the cane. It wasn’t too long before I was walking almost 5,000 steps a day. After about 2 months, I called Dr. Caillouette ‘s office to schedule the 2nd one. That surgery was on August 28. I’m a little over 2 weeks in and am walking without a cane. This may be a long winded review, but I have nothing but praise for Dr. Caillouette; his PA, Cara Walker, and the other nursing staff at Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine. Awesome experience with my total knee replacement. If you do everything that Dr Caillouette asks you will have outstanding results! He has this procedure down to a science and the Hoag orthopedic institute hospital is a well oiled machine, all the nurses, physical therapist, and other employees have their rolls in your recovery and they do it with expertise. My PT said Dr. Caillouette patients are 2 weeks further ahead in recovery than other surgeons. This was true for me. Dr. Caillouette replaced my left hip, I had my right hip replaced 6 years ago. Dr Caillouette is very down to earth, he listens to every question and does not hurry you in any way.The team for Dr Caillouette is exceptional, Dr Cara is kind, skilled, understanding of specific needs, Dustin was great, she was able to fit me into a cancellation and fast tracked all of my pre surgical testing. Jasmine got my insurance company and pharmacy on the same page to get me my needed prescriptions at the last minute due to my mistake. Jasmine never mentioned that the last minute scrambling to get my medications could have been avoided. The women who handles durable medical equipment(I cannot remember her name) called me to make sure all of my needs were being met. The front office is nice and efficient. If I could give 10 stars, I would.

I was in so much pain when I went to see Dr. Caillouette .... he recommend total hip replacement. I have had my surgery 2 weeks ago and since surgery I have NEVER been in pain. Even after surgery I had a little uncomfortable situations but NOT PAIN at all and Never had to go on any pain Meds. So, happy and so pleased I took care of this situation. Have had two surgeries by Dr. Caillouette and both went without any problems or complications. He has extensive pre-op exercises and education to prepare you for the surgical procedure; a website to communicate with staff to answer any questions about your particular procedure and to reinforce their pre-op preparation that includes diet, exercise, how to prepare your home for the post-op recovery. This follows you throughout the post-op period to ensure your recovery is smooth and gives the best results. They provide a a class pre-op that includes a booklet with education on the medications, foods, exercises, home preparation, etc. The staff is excellent and helpful. My entire experience with Dr. Caillouette, his Physician Assistant and entire staff has been one of excellence and professionalism.

In January, 2011 at age 63, Dr. Caillouette performed total knee replacement surgery on both of my knees over a six month period which changed the quality of my life from constant pain while standing or walking. Within a few weeks I was able to walk totally pain free and in time I was walking 7 to 8 miles a day. In May, 2017 I started having pain in my back which I thought was caused by riding my bike on a bumpy dirt trail. The pain in my back migrated into my left hip which I thought was caused by sciatica but X-rays revealed bone on bone in my left hip. My wife and I sold our business in June and we were going to buy an RV and get on the road as we had planned to do for several years. When I realized I needed a new hip I knew I wanted Dr. C. to do the surgery. I called his appointment scheduler on August 2nd and was lucky enough to see Dr. C. In Irvine that same day. He confirmed that a new hip was needed and asked me when I wanted to get it done. I said ASAP and on August 3rd I received a call scheduling the surgery for August 15th. It has now been two weeks since the surgery and I am again walking pain free. I still have some swelling and minor bruising and less energy than normal but instead of this turning into a major roadblock, it is turning out to be a bump in the road thanks to Dr. C. and his incredible team. The same goes to the staff at Hoag Orthopedic Institute. Thank you all!

My wife had both hips replaced by Dr. Caillouette, the left one was replaced 2 weeks ago. They are very careful & concerned about infection. The protocol is taken seriously to eliminate any chance for problems. We highly recommend Dr. Caillouette for orthopedic care.

Ive had both of my knees replaced (TKR) this year, my right in April 2017 and my left knee in August 2017. Just before my second replacement I hiked 5 miles...it was the 7th five-mile hike on my new knee. Our 1st hike was 47 days after surgery and its undiscribable how strong my new knee is...powered up those hills!Dr. Caillouette is brilliant and he also stitches you up with cosmetic surgery protocols so when you heal the hairline scar is barely visible.

I have needed I hate replacement for 5 years . My research said dr. Caillouette was on the the top docs to do the Surgery. Newport Orthopedic Institute Hospital was stellar, the nurses were excellent, making every effort to prevent infections and provide all you need Orthopedicly to have a positive experience. James Caillouette MD, and his entire staff are nothing short of superb, both in complete care, professionalism and compassion. All appointments have been timely, without exception. Pre op, operative procedure (s) post op preparedness, managing expectations and follow up were thorough. All questions were answered clearly and concisely. We were never made to feel as though any queries were unimportant. Dr Caillouette has preformed several surgeries on me, as well as other family members. I have recommended his Orthopaedic expertise to many friends over the years. In every instance, the reports have been 100% positive. A friend who had both hips replaced said his surgery was so successful he wished he had 2 more hips for him to replace! Without a doubt, Newport Orthopaedic Instuutite is a well oiled and thought out machine. Additionally, although originally from the OC area, we now live in Scottsdale. Making the journey to NOI and Dr. Caillouette for my husbands knee replacement (s) was never in question. This was a hardship, but well worth the sacrifice as his outcome has been phenomenal! I do not recommend James Cailouette!!I had this man do a right hip replacement in 2004. All went well. Not long thereafter he replaced my left knee. All was not well. For 8 months I limped and heard (and felt) a clunk with every step. I repeatedly told Cailouette this and his response was give it more time. I gave it the 8 months and then went to find out what the problem was from 3 other doctors. The last, Dr, Skinner in Santa Ana, told me that the implant had not been placed properly in the bone and was flopping around in there. Cailouette and the other two doctors took only horizon xrays, which did not show the problem. Dr. Skinner xrayed the leg flat found it immediately. He showed the xray to me and even I could see that the implant was not placed well. Dr. replaced the knee again completely and the problem was corrected. I have had no further discomfort. Unfortunately, Dr. Skinner has since retired...

Dr. Caillouette and his staff were amazing. Less pain and faster recovery than I expected.

If you have to have hip replacement surgery, I can tell you, you will not find a better experience than Newport Orthopedic Institute, nor a better surgical outcome than with Dr. Caillouette. I went home same day, walked into my home that night, and 2 weeks later, I am walking unassisted, and back at work. I need my other hip done this year and already have a date set. I could not write a better script for a surgical experience than with Dr. C.
