I do not have insurance and have been shopping around for a good eye doctor for a few years. Harlem VistaSite is a great option. Affordable without insurance, friendly staff, clean offices, and very knowledgable doctors. I also love that while they sell glasses and contacts in office, they are not pushy at all if you dont want to buy in store.

Walked 30 minutes just to be told the service I want is not covered by the insurance. They should have checked before and called me, to explain what the out-of-pocket prices are and if I would like to cancel or keep my appointment.Additionally, one of the receptionist was very rude. She asked me a question, and when I asked for an explanation of what she meant, she refused to answer.Would never go back there!

Dr. Brittni Rodriguez is absolutely brilliant! Im so grateful that I made an appointment to see her for my vision exam and glasses. She was not only thorough in conducting the examinations but patient and kind in her demeanor. She is also the only eye doctor I have ever met who took the time to answer my questions fully in a clear and comprehensive way. I have, unfortunately, a very complicated and difficult prescription. As a result, Dr. Rodriguez never once let me feel that I was to blame for my medical diagnosis. She was empathetic towards my condition. She is dedicated towards guiding her patients in the direction of the best treatment possible.

Dr. Rodriguez is AMAZING! Ive gone to see her 3 times now. The greatest thing about her, aside from her clear knowledge and understanding of optometry, is her care for her patients. She listens to every concern you have, addresses each one, and makes sure you leave with a full understanding of care going forward. The office does a wonderful job explaining benefits and payments. I highly recommend this office/ Dr. Rodriguez for your eye care needs!

Stopped by today for an eye exam and some new glasses. This place is relatively new to the neighborhood (about 3 months now). The studio is clean and bright and modern with a touch of character in the exposed brick present. My intake process was decent. The receptionist/administrative assistant greeted me with a smile and indicated there was room to see an optometrist today. Had to register via an old looking paper form - wish there was a paperless/electronic registration process that could be done in-store on-site.Dr. Obacova was AMAZING. She was skilled, thorough, and completely professional. She conducted a standard exam then checked my eye pressure and administered an eye dilation and examination. All the while she explained in detail what she was doing and why. She took care not to press on my eye and head too hard when she needed to maneuver it into proper position for examination. I really wish she was permanent there so I would look forward to going back. As it stands now, Im worried about my 3 month check up because the check up WONT be with her...Then theres the frame selection and payment arrangement. This is where things went left (or south, depending on your perspective). Dr. Obocova mentioned prescribing digital lenses that will block certain types of light days from computer screens. The frame consultant (sales rep? have no idea what to call him/them, they never introduced themselves - they just assumed a lot of things and made a number of suggestions) did not mention anything about digital lenses. Dr. Obacova also mentioned that my lenses would be different thickness on the top and the bottom - folks helping me pick frames didnt mention that. All they mentioned was that I was getting a standard lens and had to upgrade to polycarbonate since my frames were part rimless. I had to pay for the poly carbonate lens and chose to pay for anti glare and transition lenses. The price of the lens treatment exceeded that of the glasses by $200.My issue is that I felt I wasnt getting a good value for the money I was spending. The staff didnt introduce themselves, didnt explain what was happening and what I was paying for in detail, and didnt seem to align with what the doctor said regarding My lenses. Much of this process took place while my eyes were dilated - even more reason to be detailed and explain things clearly to me. My receipt for services is an old school paper receipt with a grid structure (similar to an invoice for a price of furniture). Its 2019 - can technology play more of a role?Im nervous about picking up my glasses in a few days and my follow up appointment.Three stars for the modern clean studio and Dr. Obacova (she gets 5 stars!). The sales team needs to do better.

Whatever you do, please do not go to this office! I wish I could give less than one star. I went to this location for an eye exam and was hoping to find a pair of glasses. The place was clean, had generally pretty good reviews, and accepted my insurance. The exam itself was okay, nothing out of the ordinary. After the exam, I went to find a pair of glasses. I’ve worn glasses since I was 8 years old, so I’ve been purchasing frames for 20 years now. The glasses options at this location were incredibly limited. They only had high end expensive frames ($700-$800 for the frames alone without insurance) and extremely low end frames (covered completely by insurance). There were no middle ground frame options ($200-$300 range), which is what I was looking for. I was dissatisfied, so I asked to have my prescription printed and left to look for glasses elsewhere. When I found a pair of glasses elsewhere at a later date I discovered that my insurance for glasses had already been used which I thought was odd as I did not order glasses at Harlem VistaSite Eye Care. After a phone call with my insurance and the Harlem VistaSite Eye Care, I discovered that this location had charged my insurance for low end frame glasses that I had never ordered. They never informed me of this order (which I did not ask for to begin with!). At best, this was the result of complete disorganization and miscommunication by the administration. At worst, this may be some kind of scam the office is trying to pull with my insurance and me (which based on other reviews may be the case!). Either way, I’m completely disgusted by the customer service from the shop and how incredibly rude they were to me and my insurance company on the phone. I will never go back and highly recommend others do not go either. Trust me, it is not worth it.

The place is modern but there system is antiquated. Shouldn’t be using paper to register. Dr. Rodriguez was spectacular and extremely thorough. The selection of frames is where it went left. I have commercial insurance so it would have been nice to start with the frames that are totally covered by my insurance instead of trying to sell me the most expensive frames. I ended up spending close to 800 dollars for 2 pair of glasses, one pair for me the other for my son. Should have gone to Costco.

BE CAREFUL! ASK FOR ALL COSTS IN ADVANCE OR YOU MIGHT BE UNPLEASANTLY SURPRISED.I went in for a routine eye exam which was covered by my vision insurance with a $10 copay. Dr. Brittany Rodriguez told me my eyes were fine but to come back for the remainder portion of my eye exam in a few weeks because it would be a lot in one appointment. A few weeks later, I come in for the follow up, did not sign any forms, was not told what the follow up procedure was and led straight to the doctor. They did a dilation and retinal screening. I come out and the bill is $165 for what they said is a medical procedure which is not covered by vision insurance. This dilation exam should have been a part of the original screening. My fault for being naive but, I also see that this place has a history of bad service. Do yourself a favor and ask for costs and detailed procedure upfront.

I really did not want to leave a negative review about this place- but it almost feels like they were begging me to, so here goes... In summary, the overall lack of care for customer satisfaction and blatant disorganization displayed when I came to pick up glasses was extremely unprofessional. It all begins with this fact: When I came to pick up my frames on two separate occasions, they made no effort to see if the frames fit my face, nor did they bother cleaning the lenses (which is standard in my 22+ years of experience in shopping for glasses). My first time here I was encouraged to buy some Chanel frames. The person that helped me only showed me expensive frames in this price range- so I just assumed I would have to splurge to be able to see better.Because they failed to give honest feedback as to whether or not the initial frames I purchased fit my face, and I couldnt see that well when I tried them on the first time- I ended up returning the first pair when I realized they were an awful fit and I got a pair that was a better fit by searching the inventory they had on display more thoroughly. The frames that I ended up replacing the Chanel ones with were half the price. They wanted to call it even on $188+ that I overpaid for frames that did not fit my face, since they couldnt do anything with the lenses- but after I advocated for myself, they agreed to give me store credit.I decided to use the store credit for new lenses and buy a second pair of frames elsewhere (Warby Parker), since VistaSite had few frames that actually worked for my face shape/size.I brought the frames in on a Monday to have this done, got a call on Friday saying they were ready for pick up and I came in on Saturday to pick up the glasses. I promise I am not exaggerating when I say this man spent a good 15 minutes rummaging through a crate of glasses that were ready for pick-up and somehow just not seeing mine anywhere. I just sat there twiddling my thumbs and waiting for them to find the glasses they called me to say were ready for pick-up.Eventually he had to get assistance from someone else. Ultimately, they discovered that my glasses were saved under someone elses name!So they gave me the glasses. And honestly, I do not believe the lenses are even my prescription because they barely improved my vision!! Nothing at all like my current glasses. At this point I am exhausted with the tackiness and if anything Ill just go somewhere else for my accurate prescription lenses to be put into the frames. This was a very expensive lesson for me! Moral of the story- this place mainly cares about how much money they can get from you. They could care less about how satisfied you are with the service/product. I suggest you go to Warby Parker or one of these online sites. This place also has very outdated methods of doing things.

They charged me $60 for an eye exam yet VSP says I only should have a $10 copay for a full medical eye exam. Dr Rodriguez decided that my eyes were too dry even though I wasnt experiencing anything wrong. She prescribed me the most expensive drops in the market, which they sold me themselves. I was asked to schedule a follow up for this problem I hadnt consulted about, but I have medical insurance and my plan includes medical visits for a $40 copay, so I thought it was fine. When I got to the follow-up visit, they told me that my insurance would charge me $165 for the follow-up visit. I decided to not proceed with the visit and called my health insurance to figure this out. My insurance still says that medical visits included vision should cost me $40 with my plan, and that they are in-network. But Harlem Vista Eye Site insists that they use a special code that would cost me $165. So basically Harlem Vista Eye Site is not satisfied with the amount of money theyd get from my insurance for a follow-up visit to a routine eye exam, so they try to use a code saying they do a medical procedure that they wont actually do, so they get paid more. Meanwhile I have to pay $165 for a follow-up visit I am not even sure I needed, because who can trust them now. Im fully employed and have a super expensive health insurance, yet I have to deal with this absurdity for just routine, preventive exams. Imagine if I were not employed or insured, or if I were seriously sick.

I dont like to leave bad reviews. Its either I leave a glowing review, or none at all. But after the experience I recently had, I feel like I should warn others. Sadly,as much as I liked Dr. Rodriguez and found her to be very knowledgeable, I will not be returning. I will start by saying that I originally found them on the Healthfirst website. I called to inquire about an exam, and glasses, for my 4 yr old. They confirmed that they do in fact participate with our insurance, and told me they have a wide range of glasses for a 4 yr old, including Dilli Dalli. What they forgot to mention once he had already picked out the glasses that he wanted, was that Healthfirst does not pay for Dilli Dalli glasses. I wasnt too upset, of course they should have clarified this with me from the start, because had I known that, I wouldnt have even allowed him to browse those glasses. But he really liked them and for a child of that age, and being that active, he actually needed those type of glasses that were made more durable. So after the initial shock after being told the price, I obliged and shed out the money. Now almost a year later we went back for a follow up, and after Dr. Rodriguez examined him, she found that the astigmatism in one of is eyes had gotten a bit worse. And since his lenses were also scratched up, she put in an order to replace/change the lens. I get to the front desk and the sales lady tells me that since these glasses were purchased by me and not the insurance, the lens replacement would not be covered. Made sense. So I asked her how much it would cost. When she matter of factly told me $400, my jaw DROPPED. I stood shocked. How could just the lens replacement cost $400 when I originally paid $250 for the entire glasses?! She claimed it was the blue light filter, which the doctor insisted that he needed. I told her its Christmas time and Im struggling a bit right now,and asked if I could make a down payment and make payments on the remaining balance. She said of course, that wouldnt be a problem. So I counted my money and left her a $110 deposit. I told her I should have no problem paying off the remaining balance after the holidays. Less than a week later the office called me to let me know that his new lens were ready and to come in so that the technician could install them. Right before I left my house I called and asked the receptionist if I could pay $50 today and pay off the rest later. She told me that would not be a problem, that I had 60 days to pay off my balance. After they installed the new lens in his glasses and he is already wearing them, I go to give the sales lady my card, and I tell her to charge $50 and her demeanor changes completely. She says matter of factly, Oh you cant take them home until you pay the FULL balance. I just looked at her dumbfounded. I told her that is NOT what I was told over the phone. I was told I had 60 days to pay off the balance. Her only response was to apologize for the misunderstanding. Typical. And to clearly remind me that he could not take the glasses home unless I made the full payment. Mind you, he was already wearing the glasses, so what option did I have?! They couldnt just take the lens out and give him his glasses back, he couldnt be without them either. The only money I had at the moment was my Christmas money. I wanted to cry. I was so upset. This was not the 1st, or even 2nd time that they have blindsided me. This was the 3rd time. So I paid for the lens and left, and will not be returning. The communication between the receptionist and sales person should be better. They should be more upfront with their customers regarding prices and what is or isnt covered by insurance, instead of just throwing it at them at the last minute just to make their sale.
